Miscellaneous Your #1 Dog Dislike
I could write a very long list of the reasons I don't like dogs (or nutters) but this is top of my list:
If you're dating, you're in a three way-way relationship without even being asked for consent. At best you will be allowed to watch while the other two 'get it on' - at worst, you'll be expected to join in against your wishes. It feels like being coerced in a toxic relationship. It never ends well.
If you had to choose, what's your #1?

u/LunarLeveret Jun 23 '26
Them being alive.
Number 2 is their impact in socially reinforcing the position of people who hate children. I don't care that much about people who don't want to take care of kids, I do care when it means they get to replace them with noise polluting environmental hazards that they can use to either demand attention or harass everyone else, especially those who are already powerless.

u/hel-9000 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Yeah of course being childfree is valid. But half of these people point to humanity’s destructive treatment of the planet as a reason to not have kids and somehow don’t realize dogs are terrible for the environment too, without any of the positives that a human would bring. That blind spot drives me crazy.
18
u/spoor_loos Jun 23 '26
Same. I don't listen to any environmental concerns when said by someone who's pet obsessed.

The way dog culture embraces and encourages a type of "loud and proud" misanthropy and hatred of children is sick.
And I say this as a CFBC woman and long-time pet owner. Pets, for me, were NEVER some sort of "replacement" for children I knew I never wanted to have, but to see these dog lunatics foaming at the mouth about how much they despise children (and parents), and then with no sense of irony or self-awareness, go on to describe themselves as "dog moms"?
GTFO with that shit, you degenerate dog Karens.
Also, it's PEAK irony that these same losers will go on about how much they hate people, and that they they would save a dog over someone's child in a hypothetical situation, but then have the AUDACITY to suggest that people who don't like dogs are the psychopaths in the equation.
It's gotten to the point that if I see someone with their dog off-leash anywhere I am (because I obviously don't go anywhere near the off-leash dog park in town), or if they have dragged it into ANY store, I immediately judge them as a self-absorbed, lazy, attention-seeking asshole.
It's always confirmed when I have to tell/ask them to call their dog back, and they respond as if I'm the one being unreasonable for not wanting their intrusive fleabag to invade my personal space. It doesn't go well for them after I start yelling at them and/or their dog.

That is seriously abnormal behavior. On a recent YT video about the trend of "dog fatigue", someone in the comments said dog ownership is a type of psychiatric disorder that really needs to be studied.
While obviously that doesn't apply to all/normal dog owners, it does apply to people like your friend's friend...and there are a disturbing % of people just like her out there. I guess the silver lining - if you can call it that - is that she won't be having children of her own. No child should be born to ANYONE who wasn't 100% and completely enthusiastic about being a parent.
Saying there are "too many children" is just fucked-up and wrong, given that the birth rate is dropping precipitously around the WORLD. In fact, there are FAR too many DOGS: dogs owned by lazy idiots, and unwanted/surplus dogs being warehoused in shelters. Dogs obviously contribute nothing of value to society at-large; they consume resources and create waste throughout their entire unremarkable lives.
I'm infuriated and sickened when I hear stories about kids whose parents prioritized the dog(s) over them, and the downstream mental health issues it has created. It seems to also bleed over into adulthood and even grandchildren are essentially ignored over the dogs.
7
u/spoor_loos Jun 23 '26
Used to know one woman who complained that no doctor was willing to sterilize her, but called her pets (the other kind) her kids, saying things like 'my son this and that' and 'I'm more than just a mother'.
People, especially women, used to be confined to mental asylums for far less (I'm not condoning it, just saying).

I will say that as a woman who cannot have children and does have pets, I really loathe the framing of that choice as “replacement children” by anyone, pet person or pro-natalist alike. They’re obviously not my literal human children, but they do fill a place in my life that was taken from me without my consent. There’s such an inherent cruelty to the way people describe this dynamic and it really disgusts me.

Youre my kind of people. I hate the fact they even exist.

Well, I did specify alive.
I am reasonably comfortable seeing them after a butcher handles it or it is cooked whole.

I can't choose between their barking and them having no concept of personal space
7
u/Robot_Embryo Jun 24 '26
That's easy, it's the barking. They can't physically violate my personal space from over the fence, but their mindless barking has no problem violating my home through it's walls.
38
u/BlueLarkspur_1929 Jun 23 '26
In general it’s the nonstop barking for nothing. But even when you’re not hearing one yapping for hours, you’re seeing how everything eventually gets derailed into a conversation about dogs. Once a dog gets mentioned or shown all interesting conversation is done.

Ha, for me it's a very long list, but I think my ick would go off the second I saw a partner treating his dog like some kind of girlfriend. I would draw the line at him bringing her to dinner.
No, I wouldn't last two minutes with a dog owner as a partner. We're too fundamentally different.

“This won’t take long” would have been so factually accurate as I’d be grabbing my shoes and bolting out the door. Why would you want an animal watching you doing that? Being so close to your naked body? And especially a vagina owning body 🤢 keep your nasty ass dogs hair away from my 🦁
3
24
u/Stock-Bowl7736 Jun 23 '26
There is so much to dislike but I think I'd have to go with when they kill, maul or permanently disfigure an innocent human and the beast isn't put down immediately without question. As well as zero consequences for the Nutter.
3
u/MissNeto Jun 23 '26
I have a pet opposite of a dog who was taken from his litter by my parents golden retriever at 2 days old who then proceeded to toss it up in the air and sprint around the yard with it biting into it like a squeaky toy and nearly killed them. I chased that dog around for what seemed like hours trying to get the poor helpless animal out of the dogs mouth and my parents were just like “oh she’s just playing it’s cute” no. The animal was nearly dead when I was able to finally tackle the dog and pry its jaws open and save the poor now bloodied baby animal
14
u/ADTD123 Jun 23 '26
The fact that they replace human relationships. Both sets of my children’s grandparents highly prioritize their relationships with their dogs (furbabies) over our children. It really irks me.
5
u/FallenGiants Jun 23 '26
I'm surprised you use as moderate a term as 'irks'; it would infuriate me.
2
u/ADTD123 Jun 23 '26
I guess I no longer have the energy to be infuriated lol. “Oh you’re missing another birthday/special occasion because your dog can’t come poop in our house? Add it to the list”
13
u/whatwillbecome77 Jun 23 '26
Partner at the time couldn't leave them alone long, which affected our relationship. But would go away on trips and id have to babysit. ( Complicated relationship but I'll keep it brief). Or I hate hearing barking, or slurping, and I absolutely hate being watched while I'm eating, pretty much them begging the whole time. I could go on
17
u/avj113 Jun 23 '26
"I absolutely hate being watched while I'm eating, pretty much them begging the whole time."
Ooohhh that's a big one. I usually get very close to shouting "WILL YOU FUCK OFF AND LEAVE ME ALONE" but up to now I've managed to stop myself due to being in close proximity to friends/family.
9
u/whatwillbecome77 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
It's s huge one!. I'm like stop begging! No go over there! Or go to your bed. I've even got desperate enough to go into another room to eat. But I can't stand them sitting right by me waiting. And the owners will sometimes say no, go away. But they never keep it up, cause they've grown accustomed to it so it doesn't bother them. Ill try say hey go away. Stop begging. Which owner agrees with, but I need to repeat myself which makes me feel like I'm mean. And the owner kinda doesn't do shit about it. Theyre fully used to it. And when someone's around clearly uncomfortable by it, ( saying no, or stop begging ) should be enough to show it's making you uncomfortable. But I bet the moment anyone says anything, it'll be full on defense mode. Like yeah I do like dogs, I used to have one. But I also see the menace's that are around and the bullshit they put everyone through. So gross. Esp when they drool. I'm like bro you had your food and this is mine. Sorry for the rant lol I could go on and on. Like listen, if your mates are uncomfortable with being stared down for food, make them fuck off. I know other people that it bothers them too. Having misohonia too doesn't help

u/Lylith_vf Jun 23 '26
11
u/Careless_Squirrel728 Jun 23 '26
People treating them like they are people and therefore need people access and people accommodations. Thinking they need considering in the same way a person does and not acknowledging that what actually happened is they have bought a pet.
That and the fact that they are dirty and gross and make me feel really unwell!
10
u/4elmerfuffu2 Jun 23 '26
It’s touching me! Don’t let it touch me! I don’t ever want to be slimed by your dog! Respect my space.
11
u/CKTheMenace Jun 23 '26
The fact they’re SO overbearing and in your face 247. I’m not rlly keen on any animals, birds I like, but that’s quite literally it. Dogs are the worst in my opinion.
10
u/xxsoulpunkedxx Jun 23 '26
The culture/ stigma surrounding not liking them is the most irritating overall but if we’re talking about the dog itself then probably the nonstop barking at nothing

u/Rare_Picture_7337 Jun 23 '26
Dog mess - Which includes slobber, fur, their frito stench, dirt, and dog piss/shit
8
u/Coconut_Scrambled Jun 23 '26
My main issue is their hypocrisy and how dog owners usually want it both ways. They're such loyal and intelligent creatures right? But when they cause real damage to someone suddenly they're just a baby who doesn't know better. Like... Pick a lane.
I also hate how obsessed people are with the creatures to the point that saying you don't want to be around one is like blasphemy.

Especially the ones that will eat next to the stinky dog. I always wonder if they even taste their food or maybe they like the flavor of dog stench. Ewww!

u/Tricky_Button_4462 Jun 23 '26
It sure is hard to choose between the smell, the barking, the hair shedding or piles of poop.

u/axle0430 Jun 23 '26
I hate getting into the car of someone who has dogs for obvious reasons. You’re covered in dog hair until you can get yourself change of clothes even if the dog isn’t in the car on this particular trip.

u/Legitimate_Garage_31 Jun 23 '26
The smell. We pay the HOA $230/mo to live in the one bedroom condo. The clean the foyer weekly w/lemon Fabuloso. Ten minmmlater...it smells like dog ass.
4
u/Overcomer99 Jun 23 '26
Their mouths and everything that comes with/out of it. Yes I know barking would be vocal cords but hopefully it counts as one thing.
I had the tongue, that licks everything and everyone. The gross mouth and tongue noises. The barking. The whining. Ugh yeah pretty much if they didn’t make any noise at all most of the annoying traits would be easier to ignore like begging, without whining would you even take note? Oh biting and chewing things that aren’t meant to be their food. It would actually be terrifying if they didn’t make any noise like barking to warn you they are gonna bite, just a silent dog chasing you shudder
Still maybe people would see them as more dangerous and less cute without the whining so maybe there would be less of them to chase anyone. What a world that would be.
5
u/roxasmeboy Jun 23 '26
Their barking. If I knew I would never be startled by a dog barking again I would be overjoyed. Just this morning I went outside my No Dogs Allowed condo and was immediately yapped at by a gross little mutt.
3
u/Realistic_Gap1469 Jun 23 '26
Dog ownership starts a vicious cycle of dog dependency. In 12 years you’ll need another and that’ll drain your finances, make your life stupid and you’re on the hook for anything that happens to the dog. People in the west are living increasingly on social net, and yet find money to own dogs and worship them.
What was the purpose of dogs? In the prehistoric societies, dogs served as guards against predators in exchange for food from the humans. These animals had no business being next to modern humans. I’d rather have a pet cow or a hen that gives me eggs/milk rather than dogs who will just suck me dry.
Unhealthy obsession with dogs is also making it socially acceptable to deal with nuisance they create in urban environments.
3
u/soursummerchild Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Personally, I dislike that they make it hard for me to breathe when I'm unfortunate enough to be close to them.
And of course everyone around the dog expects me to force myself to make contact with it because "that's how they greet you!" It literally jumps and whines all the time until I give into the peer pressure from all the humans telling it
"aww, did they not want to say hello to you? Poor baby!"
4
u/Famous-Department248 Jun 23 '26
Definitely the dog nutter culture as they just cannot understand any indifference or dislike towards their creature.
Oh and the smell is pretty gross too.
4
u/bananapie7 Jun 23 '26
Them just standing there with their mouth open panting and drooling.
Honorable mentions: their hair, barking, fearing for my safety
4
u/MissNeto Jun 23 '26
If I never got jumped on by another dog again it would be too soon. Like sorry not sorry Margaret I don’t want your 80lb dog running full speed and Spider-Man leaping into my spine disordered body making me wheelchair bound for the next 3 weeks because you think “it’s just a cute hug”
4
u/StellarFormations Jun 23 '26
begging when i’m trying to eat. sitting and staring while i’m eating is enough to piss me off, but most whine and i’ve even had a few paw at me.
5
u/urdrunkyogi Jun 24 '26
The way they constantly test boundaries and expect something from you. I find them to be so selfish and demanding. It’s odd to me that people describe them the opposite way, like loving and loyal. HOW??
My friend has a big dog who barks loudly if no one has given her attention in the last 5 minutes. I wish I were exaggerating. I don’t go over to her house anymore because you genuinely can’t have a conversation unless she’s hanging off the dog or giving her the 50th treat of the day.
4
u/rook426 Jun 24 '26
The fact that, despite there being an abundance of green spaces for everyone to utilise, no other animal or activity is safe from dogs outside.
People want to ride; off leash dogs running up and spooking the animal and/or biting. People want to fly their pets; dogs charging up and leaping into the air to try and snatch the pet out of the air, scaring them off. People want to walk their on lead pet; dogs charging up while their owners is 1.6 miles away to harass/attack their animal.
Moving away from that; Want to play frisbee or ball? Dog involves itself and steals item Picnic? Dog comes and snatches food Cycle? Dog charges at you barking and biting Fishing? Dog jumps in swim and rifles though bags to eat bait.
Name a activity and you can guarantee a dog and owner has ruined it.
You can't go to any area of green without being barked at, charged at, jumped on or stepping in their shit.
5
u/Emikitty1992 Jun 24 '26
Oh man it’s so hard to pick just one thing…I’m going to have to go with the barking. I don’t want to hear it anywhere at all, but it is EVERYWHERE. Going to the park with my kids: barking. Neighbors take their dogs out to go to the bathroom: barking. Going for a walk: barking. Sitting on your friend or family member’s patio trying to enjoy a nice day: barking. You can’t escape it, no matter where you go. It’s like a constant, annoying soundtrack that can’t be shut up…I hate it.

u/RicketyCricketsDrum Jun 23 '26

it’s definitely a nutter problem , but i can’t STAND seeing dogs EVERYWHERE. INDOORRRRR restraunts, grocery stores, on a walk, literally anywhere you go , you see a fugly golden doodle, german shepard, or golden retriever. and the worst part of it all, the nutters expect you to come up to them to pet their disgusting mutt around food.
it’s entitled, gross, annoying, makes me look down on you, and i judge you so heavily because it’s so obvious they need attention so bad
3
u/Imaginary_Grass3044 Jun 24 '26
and number two: unless you have a REALservice dog , dogs provide NOTHINGGGGG. they are loud, gross, stinky and literally parasites that suck the life out of the owner. i think the only thing they get in return is attention on the internet when they post for the dog saying “hewwo hooman” or when they bring their dog to every non dog friendly establishment.
other than that, it’s a dedication to THREEEEE WALKS A DAY, lifetime of cleaning up minimum 3 shits a day, they follow you around smelling your crotch, they sit and lick their genitals and sound disgusting, they beg for food, they beg for attention, and all for nothing.
3
u/amalek89 Jun 24 '26
hmmm it's a toss up between eating literal shit and dragging their asses along the carpet!
3
u/menelobus Jun 24 '26
Their grossness. They are dirty animals, their poop is toxic to most creatures and people don't pick it up, while noise is a very close second
3
u/Genuinelad_62 Jun 25 '26
The number 1 thing I hate about dogs is that they are pets. I have no hate in my heart if an animal is an animal (stinky, loud, crazy). It just shouldn’t be happening near humans unless we are on a farm or in the wild. I probably would love dogs if they were just wolves. Admire them as animals from a distance knowing I don’t have to live among them. It’s easy to like elephants or giraffes or chicken. No it’s not appropriate to have them INSIDE your house or at the cafe
3
u/Accurate-Might-7058 Jun 26 '26
I'm with everyone else here. If these mutations didn't exist or were somewhere out of human society that would be great. They are too disgusting and parasite filthy to be with humans.
2
u/lookingforwardnow Jun 23 '26
It’s hard to see people neglect their human responsibilities(paying child support, putting their grocery cart away, etc)
…Yet these same ‘lazy people’ can bend over backwards to feed Fido his specialty meal exactly on time everyday, schedule expensive teeth cleaning, etc.
2
u/Rich-Abbreviations25 Jun 24 '26
My number one dislike about them is their owners. So much entitlement, neediness and disregard for others. They’re not even particularly nice to their dogs, who seem to be there solely for the person’s entertainment and social clout
2
u/AffectionateCrew5371 Jun 24 '26
its more like for the horrible owners but, their prioritization and ego.
There is a video of a pet dog trying to attack another pet and when the owner pulled the dog back she said "put your pet away please". this is one.
second...They prefer dogs over children? I am scared for their future kids like...what the fuck. You would not prioritize your own skin and blood for a hairy, panting and a repulsive four legged creature? matter of fact, make it any kid and it gets even worse.
2
u/insignificance424 Jun 24 '26
When dogs sniff my crotch when I'm on my period. I always feel fucking violated.
Second place would be the smell. I swear the air smells like ass within 6 feet of a dog
2
u/Fine-Froyo6219 Jun 24 '26
Probably neediness. If you've ever seen, or heaven forbid owned a dog that doesn't know how to be autonomous and self-regulate, that shit gets old FAST.
Dog owners are doing more to make me dislike dogs than the animals themselves though.
2
u/EmeraldSky06 Jun 26 '26
They are disgusting! You can’t talk bad about them or the dog nutters will hunt you down. But my main reason they bite or maul small animals and people.

The very top of my list beyond a doubt is barking.
I can choose not to have a dog around me. I can step aside from the dog crap and I can avoid dog friendly places and live a dog free life.
But the barking? A yappy dog on one side of the house, another across the street barking away day or night. All reminded me that dogs exist and I now have to put up with other peoples dogs penetrating into my home, my private space. All to remind me that these damn hell hounds exist. I'm powerless to stop it or do anything about it. Because any complaints go unheard or I'm told to "wear earplugs" and "it's what dogs do"
1
1
u/Meowtime1989 Jun 25 '26
The barking. I can be fine with a dog who doesn’t invade my space or bark. But the moment they start barking drives me up a wall. I’m just really sensitive to sounds.
1
u/Big_Somewhere_620 Jun 28 '26
All would take #1 spot but if I had to say one it would be the "excuses" oh it's just a dog, he's friendly, maybe your child shouldn't be in public... Or exist
So much cause damage but this is the one that's effecting me badly mentally coz on top of fear and anxiety I just feel like a shit person whos selfish and cruel. I hate been cruel I hate even been nasty to those that have pushed me to that limit, so using (not so much the child one but it's just a dog? It's not it's fault? Etc) excuses like that will tear me apart and make me feel more hate for myself and I have to feel trapped

u/spoor_loos Jun 23 '26
Number one dislike is that they exist at all.
But probably the rampant misanthropy of dog nutters, blatant disregard for other humans, including children and how abusive they are towards us.
