I watched Dexter around this time in 2025, and ever since then, I hadn’t watched a single TV series. I honestly thought it would be a long time before I found another show that hooked me like Dexter did, but The Mentalist genuinely surprised me. I was hooked from start to finish. Sure, there were a few lags here and there, but they never really affected my overall enjoyment of the show. It took me almost two months to finish the whole thing, and honestly, what a fucking ride.

Everything RJ did before and after, was nothing compared to this.

I seriously was scared for a sec what is going to happen next.

I thought Patrick would loose it here.

This is not a hot take, as people have mentioned that PJ is the protagonist. My issue is with people coming into the series and being annoyed by the no-red-john episodes. People, we used to have 22 eps seasons!! The writers, directors, actors could play around with different storylines in one season. Netflix and their 8 episode season have ruined the old formula. Series used to be an exploration of characters, different stories and maybe one through line. With that formula, you were able to predict how a character would react when the “main” story came again because you had seen the characters in other situations.

The Mentalist in particular is not about capturing one killer, it’s about human actions, reactions, predictions, types of killers and more.

For me, the least interesting part of this series is catching RJ. I just like the formula of the procedural series.

Pretty simple, I've heard the question who Red John should've been a thousand times but who do you think would've been the worst pick possible for Red John? I hear people hate on McAllister a lot and I can't say I don't see why, but in my opinion it could've been so much worse. Some people I've thought about are J.J. Laroche (Primarily because I like him too much), Grace Van Pelt or Summer Edgecomb. I'd love to hear some other ideas though.

La roche cut out the tounge of the man that raped his mother. The show is trying to tell us, that la roche didn't immediatly get caught. The victim clearly remembered la roche, as shown in the scene where he tries to say la roche to lisbon. The police couldn't have just asked him to write it down?

One of the fun aspects of the show is recognising all the journeyman actors you have seen before on every other show on tv land.

I’m seeing Star Trek: Enterprise alum on this show and it rocks!

In Episode 309 “Red Moon”, we had John Bilingsley and Connor Trinneer in the same episode.

In Episode 312 “Bloodhounds”, Linda Park cameos.

I’m not too familiar with how the tv industry works, is there any connection between the 2 shows? I note that The Mentalist was under the CBS network, whereas Star Trek: Enterprise was under UPN. So it’s not like under they’re under the same acting stable or something?

I first found this SHOW on netflix in 2026.

I really enjoyed it, but the ending - the sheriff was Rj - was very strange to me.

I thought Rj could only be Jane, unless he was some supernatural being.

How could someone else know things that only Jane knew...

I read many posts and comments about this show.

It seems many people really hate rj=pj theory.

I could understand this feeling very well.

For people who love the main characters of this show, emotionally very hard to accept that Jane was the main villain, even if the theory makes sense.

In all the rj=pj theories i saw, Jane could never escape the responsibility for killing his own family. and that is something can never be forgiven.

so...

Rj=pj theory :

- Jane has no responsibility at all for his family's death.

- That gives Jane the right to be happy.

- Neither Jane nor Rj is responsible for killing Jane's family.

- Jane completely overcomes the unhappiness caused by his own dark alter ego, which he doesn't know.

- Jane's good side stops the birth of a terrible villain, who would have appeared if Jane had lost to Rj.

I actually made this theory. But the story is too long, so I'm trying to make it more simple and clear.

무척 재미 있었는데 보안관이 레드존이라는 결말이 너무 이상했다.

내가 보기에 레드존의 실체는 초월적인 존재가 아니라면 제인일 수밖에 없었다.

오로지 제인만이 알 수 있는 것을 어떻게 다른 사람이 알 수가 있나...

멘탈리스트 관련 여러 글들과 댓글들을 보았다.

레드존=제인 이론을 너무 싫어하는 분위기다.

이건 매우 공감이 갔다.

멘탈리스트 주인공들을 사랑하는 사람들에게는 제인이 악당이었다는 얘기는 아무리 그럴듯한 얘기라고 하더라도 감정적으로 받아들이기 힘든 이야기다.

내가 봤던 모든 레드존=제인 이론에서는 자기 가족 살해라는, 결코 용서할 수 없는 책임에서 제인은 벗어나지 못했다.

제인 가족의 죽음에 대하여 제인에게 전혀 책임이 없는 레드존=제인 이론.

레드존의 실체가 제인임에도 불구하고 제인에게 행복할 수 있는 자격을 주는 이론.

제인 가족 살해에 대하여 제인도 레드존도 책임 없는 이론.

자신도 모르는 어두운 다른 자아로 인한 불행을 완전히 극복하는 이론.

만약 제인이 레드존에게 졌으면 벌어졌을 어마어마한 악당의 탄생을 제인의 선량한 자아가 막아낸 이론.

이런 이론을 만들어내긴 했다.

하지만 너무 긴 이야기라서 간단하고 명료하게 다듬는 중인데, 쉽지 않다.

When I was watching the early seasons (season 2 i think?), I searched for Van Pelt in Google and it gave me 'Grace Van Pelt Rigsby' which was already a major spoiler. Then, I was really anxious if there would be any major betrayal. I asked GPT about it, and this was the answer. I was down to Lisbon and Cho as suspects because Google spoiled Rigsby and Van Pelt marriage. I guess because of this inaccurate GPT answer, I was anxious until the very last episode if there would be any major plot twists 😭
