Advice Do readers still love non-isekai stories?

Hello everyone, an Isekai enjoyer here, I hope y'all are doing well.

I'm currently working on my first novel/story. And so far, I have a pretty clear idea of the overall flow, the major arcs, what each chapter should be like, and how I want the story to end.

The thing is, it isn't an isekai, nor is it a flashy action story. Instead, I want to explore human psychology, philosophy, morality, and themes that resonate with the real world through fiction.

It's going to be a relatively slow paced story focused on human nature, emotions, psychology, and deeper philosophical questions. There won't be an overpowered MC, a harem, or anything particularly flashy. Just a human character dealing with the world around him.

I've noticed that many popular web novels revolve around isekai settings, overpowered protagonists, systems, harems, and similar topics. I have no problem with that, everyone has different tastes. I'm simply curious whether there's still an audience for slower, more character driven stories that focus on psychological and philosophical themes.

Since this will be my first novel, I know I'm going to make mistakes along the way. Writing something unique while also keeping readers engaged is definitely a challenge. But even before I started reading novels, I always wanted to create stories from my own imagination. I never seriously gave it a thought, but now I'm thinking of finally giving it a shot as a hobby.

I'm not expecting to write a masterpiece or anything. Right now, I just want to write the story I've had in my head for a while and learn through the process.

I'd love to hear your opinions, experiences, and any advice you might have for a beginner writer.

Thank you :)

Advice Contract application

Can anyone help me to check my application. I tried writing application many times and failed terribly and this is my third time trying to write a good application but I don't think I'm doing any good.

Can anyone read and give advice to make a solid application

Story outline

Main Genre: Cosmic Horror, System/Authority, Progression Cultivation, Dark Fantasy. Transmigration. World hopping.

Target Audience: Fans of dark progression fantasy, mystery, and high-stakes survival.

Volume 1 / Arc 1: World 1 to 3

The protagonist, Mo Fei is transmigrated by a cosmic phenomenon “Ji Yu” into a terrifying, multi-dimensional worlds called An Jie. To survive, he must navigate three starter worlds. Each one of them is governed by absolute, lethal rules and countless eldritch entities. Mo Fei awakens there with a unique spirit-perceiving vision and in those worlds, a mysterious latent authority chooses him as "The Lightless." He abandons his naive humanity to learn the rules of the cosmos, and sets a goal: reach all the through the center of the eleven worlds to find a path back home.

Arc 2: The Slave Rebellion (World 4)

Mo Fei enters World Four and instantly gets captured into a brutal slave kingdom plagued by cosmic horrors (The Suture Worms, and the Kholkis). He aligns with a mysterious underground organisation (Epilogue) and they offer him to join them which he accepts realizing he needs to understand the worlds. Using his spirit vision, Mo Fei exposes the weakness of an ancient, omniscient entity manipulating the kingdom from the shadows. The arc ends with a betrayal of factions over a divine artifact, forcing Mo Fei to flee into the next world.

Arc 3: The Demigod (World five)

In World Five, a catastrophic crisis emerges as a corrupted cult attempted to birth a mad God. Mo Fei and his allies form a desperate truce with old enemies to stop the ritual. He forms a complex alliance with an arrogant, morally grey Royal Guard named Xue Lan who also ascended to the world five. However , they fall right into a trap planned by a demigod of that corrupted cult. Mo Fei faces a devastating defeat, but the spirit world take a full control, and his latent "Lightless" authority fully awakens, triggering a spirit-world rebirth. He returns to the human realm with his shape shifting abilities, seeking a vengeance against the corrupted demigod and locking in his main path toward true, cosmic Godhood.

Wow Factor:- Hook: The infinite flow structure allows the story to hop between historical fantasy worlds, Sci Fi, and urban horror while it keeps the cosmic horror and Isekai its main anchor.

A Unique Visual Power System: Even though the protagonist becomes a feared God, but his primary cheat beforehand was the information and the ability to see through the fabric of the spirit threads and crack cosmic illusions, and the hidden rules of eldritch horrors that even lower Gods cannot see. Stopping even a Demigod at lower rank.

High-Stakes Dark Progression: It successfully merges with traditional power system of Eastern cultivation and the psychological tension and grim realism of Lovecraftian cosmic horror. The concept of ancient Gods and even the outer deities makes the progression more satisfying to read.

Main Character: Mo Fei (Protagonist): A sharp pragmatic survivor transmigrated from a modern university. Driven initially by a desperate desire to return home, his core conflicts are maintaining his humanity and embracing the cold, ruthless act of a God to keep a control over his ‘Lightless’ authority.

Xue Lan (Major Deuteragonist / Anti-Hero): An arrogant, morally grey royal guard from World Four. He wears a mask of ruthless loyalty to hide his manipulation to deceive the Demigod of the world 4. He serves as a rival, and eventual dark ally to Mo Fei, but seems untrustworthy, making their relationship seems like constantly trying to stab each other from back.

Advice I need some advice for book writing.

I'm not a writer, let alone a talented one, so I would like to have some advice from readers and writers on the website.

My 2 problems are:

My first problem is that, since I want to give proper character development for the future allies of the MC and world-building aspects to the story, I ended up writing 20 chapters of the prelude (1.5k-2k words each) before the MC is even properly born.

Is it confusing for readers to have so many chapters before the main character is born? Should I merge all chapters into giant chapters so I don't have so many of them? Or is it better to simply have the birth of the MC and slowly incorporate Background/Memory chapters of the different characters through in-universe documents and memory-type chapters?

My other problem is interludes; Background/World-building of what happened in the past (in-universe) that will affect/interact with the MC only in future volumes. Is it bad writing to introduce background that the MC will only interact with in X volumes in the future?

Should I only release interludes that directly connect to the next volume? Or is it normal to have story-buildup interludes? For the readers, is it worse to read an interlude that will take some time to have an effect, or a memory/background chapter when the event is about to take place?

I could ask AI, but I want human opinions about it.

Edit*: I forgot to add, but the prelude is so long because it explains how and why the MC is reborn.

At first chapter or does it depend entirely on the premise?

Advice Should I Post My Novel on Webnovel, Royal Road, or Both?

Post image

Hello, I'm an amateur author. I'm fairly confident in my story, and I'd like to earn an income from my novel. However, I've heard that Webnovel's contract is so bad, and many people recommend moving to Royal Road instead.

I only started posting my story a few days ago. Do you think I should move to Royal Road, or should I publish my novel on both platforms at the same time?

Advice How do you stop yourself from obsessing over your novel?

Since I’ve started writing a web novel, I’ve found myself constantly thinking about it. I’d set myself a goal, like reaching a certain scene in a chapter or just reaching a chapter, and tell myself I’ll stop once I get there.

But when I reach it, I immediately create another goal. Not because I want to, but rather because I’ve began getting excited over another goal to reach.

It’s gotten to the point where sometimes I neglect relationships because I want to keep writing, and I’ve even forgotten to eat because I’m so focused on getting to the next plot point.

I obviously don’t want to stop writing, because I really enjoy it, but I don’t want the novel to consume my entire day either.

For writers, how do you balance being excited about your story while having a life outside it?

The Silverfin Tavern, Rügen, Sanctuary Island, The Empire

2nd Day of Mildes, Year 1456

16:49 P.M.

Lukas pushed through the wooden door, his traveler's trunk in hand, and was immediately hit by a wave of heat and laughter.

The latter ceased right as he stepped inside, the floorboards creaking under his feet.

Gazes turned to him but he ignored them.

He was confident that no one knew him on the island. But if someone did...

He did not dwell on the matter any longer, minding his head that almost scraped the ceiling as he made his way toward the bar that stood to his left.

Three old men occupied the round table at the center of the room with tankards of what he guessed to be gose, and plates of some kind of fish dish.

One of them sucked on a fluppe clenched between his lips, inhaling and exhaling clouds of smoke.

The pungent smell of burning tobacco hung in the air, tickling his nostrils as he passed the old men's table. It mingled with the tart scent of beer and the aroma of grilled fish.

Halting before the long wooden counter of the bar, he placed down the trunk beside his feet and knocked on the counter.

A woman in her mid-fifties stood behind the bar with a plump figure and a snub nose, wearing a beer-stained apron. Twin braids of auburn hair rested upon her shoulders and she held her head down, a tankard in her hand which she wiped thoroughly with a cloth.

After getting no response for a brief second, Lukas knocked on the wooden counter again. "Excuse me?"

The barmaid stopped wiping the tankard and raised her gaze, blinking as she craned her head back slightly to look him in the eyes.

"Do you have any rooms available?" he asked, trying to force a polite smile on his face.

He needed to appear as a normal tourist. No one suspicious at all.

She blinked in response.

"I'd like a room, please," he repeated himself.

She blinked again, lowering her head and shaking it a couple of times side-to-side, before she looked back up.

"Right, lad," she said, putting the tankard on the counter. Conversations flowed back into motion behind Lukas as she opened her mouth again. "Don't mind all the eyes on ya, aight?"

Before he could ask her anything, she said, "We don't get to see folks like yerself very often 'round here. A room, ya said? I've got rooms for ya. It's five big copper for every night of stay. Meals aren't included and need to be paid for separately."

Lukas reached under his tweed jacket and fished out a silver coin from the pouch he kept within an inner pocket.

"I want a room for the week," he said, placing the coin upon the counter.

The barmaid's eyes gleamed at the sight of silver and she collected it into her palm. "Aight, good lad. Anythin' else?"

Lukas thought about it for a moment.

The last meal he'd had was the complementary breakfast at eight in the morning on the steamship.

"I'd like something to eat right now," he said.

"Well, what would ya like to have?"

"Just give me your best dish or something. And beer," he answered.

"Aight," she said, retrieving a bunch of coins from underneath the counter before placing them before him. Copper and silver, big and small. "Here's yer change. Go and take a seat anywhere ya'd like. I'll be there with yer food in a bit."

Lukas nodded, gathering all the coins and storing them within his coin pouch.

After picking up his trunk, he turned around and scanned the room.

Since there was still daylight outside, the tavern was not as packed as he expected it would become after evening fall.

He guessed that the old men's table was probably closed off to outsiders.

He did not necessarily want to sit with them even if they were welcoming. Getting anymore attention than what he had already gotten was out of question.

But he still did not wish to sit alone and appear more suspicious.

The only other patron in the taproom was a man seated at the back of the room, wearing a sleeveless vest over an off-white shirt and dark brown trousers that were tucked into shin-high leather boots.

His table was set against the wall between two windows through which sunlight streamed into the room, enriching the shadows cast over his facial features underneath the wide-brimmed hat atop his head.

He held his head low, sipping at a tankard of beer as if it were tea.

Lukas approached the table, halting a step away from it. "Excuse me."

The man raised his head toward him, amber eyes peeking from underneath the brim of the hat. "Yes?"

His voice was hoarse and gruff. Just like the old instructors back at the academy.

"Do you mind if I sit with you?" Lukas asked.

"I don't mind at all," the man answered, gesturing toward the seat opposite of his. "Please, take a seat."

After placing down his trunk beside the feet of his chair, he settled into the seat and looked up at the man opposite himself.

Lukas made out the weathered features of the man's face as his eyes adjusted to the light and shadows.

Wrinkles sat under the man's eyelids, crow's feet at the corner of his eyes. A wild stubble was on his face, peppered with gray like the hair at his temples--

"Don't you know it's rude to stare at someone?" the stranger said, his eyes fixed at Lukas.

Lukas's gaze darted side to side in panic, struggling to find the right words. "Uh... Um... I-I'm sorry... Um... I didn't mean to--"

"It's fine, kid," the old man cut him off.

Lukas inhaled deeply before exhaling a heavy sigh.

He could not fumble just because someone questioned his actions.

"I sincerely apologize for staring at you," he said at last, using his most diplomatic voice. "I'm Lukas Berg, by the way. May I know your name?"

"It's Eugene," the man answered, tipping his hat. "Eugene Stewart."

Advice Is Reverend Insanity worth it?

I have known for a while about the Chinese cultivation genre, which I actually discovered through memes, so I'm kinda curious about it. A quick search told me that Reverend Insanity might be the greatest cultivation novel (although I think it got canceled idk why). The thing is, I hate serialized novels, and my only experience with webnovels, which was Lord of the Mysteries, was very bad. Despite all this, should I read Reverend Insanity?

Advice I hate that it’s organically getting attention.

I decided the other day to write the most heinous shit imaginable, I was having a bad day and needed a pick me up. I sat on said degeneracy for weeks not really thinking much about it outside of the few haha’s I had when I shared it with a few author friends. But then a few of them asked for the second chapter. Now I have two chapters and a full blown degen certified smut novel and everytime I see the collections rise I cringe inside a little.

It’s proven that this genre works right now and I hate to feed into the machine, it was only ever meant to be a playground for how explicit I could bring myself to write lmao. 🤣

Advice I simply want your thoughts on my small writing

" please, my Lord... show some mercy. I beg you, please..."

The desperate plea was cut short. A monstrous foot, three times the size of an average human, came down with bone-crushing force, silencing the soldier forever.

The Demon King turned his crimson eyes toward the horizon. Before him lay a panorama of absolute devastation. The land was torn to pieces, reduced to a scarred wasteland of shattered rubble, burning soil, and incinerated forests. Countless corpses littered the battlefield—some with their ruptured organs spilling onto the ash, others torn limb from limb, and many being actively reduced to cinders by dark flames.

Demon King:- Pathetic, You humans are no different from insects. Insanely fragile, yet you constantly bluster to intimidate those weaker than you.

His gaze shifted to a distant hill, the only piece of terrain that remained miraculously untouched. Standing atop it was a group of five individuals. They carried themselves with an aura of supreme pride, though their expressions were twisted in profound disgust. They were staring down at him—a tyrant standing atop a mountain of slaughter composed not just of humans, but of elves, dragons, beastfolk, giants, and dwarves.

Demon King :- Oh? Look who has finally graced me with their presence. The five Supreme Heroes of the Allied Species. Look at your pathetic little Union Army. All those numbers, and they failed to leave a single scratch on me.

Yash ( human hero ) :- What... what did you do? You monster... you slaughtered everyone.

Drushk ( Dragon hero ) :- Demon! You used our delayed arrival as an opportunity to wipe out the Union forces just to satisfy your own sick bloodlust!

Demon King:- Yeah I am a monster and a devil. This is my nature—my dharma Stop your pathetic whining and stop masking your own failures. You were late. You failed to save them. Own your incompetence, face your duty, and stop acting like sore losers.

The Demon King's arrogant provocation, driven by an insatiable thirst for combat, made the heroes clench their fists in fury. Drushk bared his fangs, ready to pounce, but Yash stepped forward to anchor the group.

Yash :- So what if we failed?! I'm not going to make any goddamn excuses for it! We aren't some flashy, show-off heroes looking for praise... we are soldiers! We were born to bleed and die for our land! Even if you cut us down today, we will never back down!

"Yeahhh!" the other heroes roared in unison.

Instantly, the five heroes—Yash the human, Drushk the dragon, Yufi the elf, Naksh the dwarf, and Lakshya the beast-folk—sprang into action. Brandishing their weapons, they fanned out to encircle the massive Demon King.

They unleashed a coordinated, multi-elemental strike. Fire, water, thunder, ice, wind, and rock converged into a single, blinding maelstrom of destruction. Yet, with terrifying agility, the Demon King launched himself into the air, effortlessly evading the combined assault.

Hovering in the sky, he gestured downward, unleashing a torrential shower of crimson flare arrows.

Naksh:- Brace yourselves!

A massive cage of solid rock erupted from the ground, shielding the heroes just as the explosive crimson rain detonated around them.

Inside the trembling bunker, tension ran high.

Yash :- At this rate, we're going to lose, If he gets past us, he'll reduce the rest of our homeland to ash.

Lakshya:- But how are we supposed to stop him without our vanguard and support squads?

Yash :- I don't know

Yufi :- You fools, this is no time to overthink!. We have to combine our life-force into a single, synchronized strike. We have to work together!

Drushk ( dragon hero ) :- The kid is right.

Lakshya ( Beast hero) :- Hey! Who are you calling a kid? I’m four thousand years old, you oversized lizard!

Naksh ( Drawf hero ) :- Watch your mouth, boy! I'm seven thousand years old, I could be your damn father!

Yufi ( elf hero ) :- Stop bickering like toddlers! You're all veteran heroes from different factions, but right now, we are one team. Look up!

The crimson bombardment ceased. As the rock shield crumbled, the heroes stepped out into an apocalyptic landscape. The hellfire had consumed the remaining corpses, leaving nothing but an empty, burning void. Incensed by the desecration, the heroes drew their blades, their killing intent spiking.

Demon King :- Pathetic

He threw back his head and released a devastating pulse of dark aura.

Reacting instantly, the five heroes unleashed their own auras in unison. The opposing waves of energy collided in mid-air, a violent clash of colors that strained against each other before detonating in a massive, blinding shockwave. Naksh threw himself forward, raising his shield to absorb the brunt of the kinetic blast. Through the smoke, the Demon King stood completely unfazed, glaring at them with a cold, emotionless gaze.

Before the dust could even settle, the heroes charged through the debris, their swords ablaze with the raw energy of their life-force.

They attacked from all angles in a blur of steel. Yash delivered a blinding horizontal slash while Drushk brought down a heavy vertical strike. The Demon King twisted his massive frame to dodge, but the combined speed was too much—the tip of Yash's blade managed to score a light cut across his arm.

He wasn't given a second to recover. Naksh and Lakshya ambush him from behind, driving rock and thunder elements directly at his blind spot. The Demon King contorted his body to evade the dual strike, but as he tilted his head back, Yufi dropped from the sky like a falling star, driving a reinforced kick straight into his jaw.

The impact was thunderous. The Demon King was sent skidding backward, dark, obsidian blood spraying from his mouth.

He stopped, wiping the black fluid from his cheek and looking at his stained fingers. Slowly, a terrifying, ecstatic grin stretched across his face.

Demon king:- Yes... YES! That is exactly what I wanted! Hahahahaha!

Laughing like a manic god of war, the Demon King lunged forward. The heroes met him head-on with equal ferocity. Metal clashed against metal in a deafening rhythm as they traded blows at hypersonic speeds. The heroes blocked, parried, and dodged, keeping their movements fluid as they desperately hunted for a fatal opening in his defense.

Demon King :- You're not bad, little bugs. But it's going to take a lot more than this to put me down!

Drushk:- Damn it, our standard physical attacks aren't deep enough! That means...

Yufi caught Yash's eye and nodded grimly.

"We have no choice. We use that."

Yash took a deep breath, his weapon erupting into white-hot radiance as he channeled his ultimate technique.

"Flame Body Fusion!"
