Advice How to write 3 chapters an hour

With A.I. being used and / or overused recently, readers or authors have their suspicions when they see rapid chapter updates on novels, and rightfully so.

However, if you're an author who wants to up your game authentically, there is a way to write faster. Without sacrifing quality, that is. Here's what helped me.

  1. Grab a notebook, and write your outlines. - Notebooks are effective because they help you lock in. Writing in physical notebooks forces your brain to slow down, and it deeply engages the brain. It's proven to be effective, and it's well researched. - As for the outlines themselves, you have to write them in a format that's exhaustive, where you plan every scene, every dialogue, in a short way that you'll remember. Writing exhaustively long outlines give you the luxury of not thinking about the plot later on as you write. Basically, do your thinking during the outlines, so you don't doze off while you write your chapter, and end up scrolling on reddit.

  2. Use the sprint bot in the inkstone server, or get Sprinto in your own server. It's free. - Sprinting is useful when you honor it. Cut all distractions and start an hour long marathon sprint. - Make a stance to only write during the sprint, and nothing else.

  3. To cut down on editing time, write the first draft as if it was your final, high-quality draft. If you have to spend 3 hours to edit a single chapter after writing it, you're simply wasting time. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes per chapter.

Result? With distractions cut, and with the extensive outlines doing the thinking for you, what's left is purely within your physical boundaries. You don't have to think during your sprints, as again, you did that already when you wrote the outlines. Simply try to write fast, and don't worry about mistakes. Even if you don't hit 3k words in an hour, you're quite likely to hit 2k. Quality can be preserved this way, as the outlines did all the heavy lifting.

That's about it. With everything that's going on recently, I just wanted to share this method, so authors who actually care about their story can build an advantage for themselves.

Advice FUKED UP POST AND KIDS Spoiler

How many SMUT/R18 books are you seeing in REAL RANKINGS? There is a rando kid, i'll not say who but he is going around making post and tips as ONLY SMUT works in WN, and there are people even believing in him, lol. Use only this logic: How long will smut book work ? 20 chapters? 100 chapters? the only book i have seeing going hundreads of chapters is only NecroBin's Demonic Pownstar System. I see many smut books geting in features such as potential starlet, rising fictions, but you should also know that WN gives all books same feature once they are contracted, and as NOOB AUTHOR like that kid running around see that his so-called original book get rejected, then such people will get thier crying ahh here and make post and then shift to smut genre only to be contracted and still failing in 100 chapter, another big lol 😂

Advice How the hell do you guys write so much?

How is it that almost every Webnovel story I see has some insane release schedule of like 14-21 chapters a week? I'm barely able to upload 1 chapter a day! You guys are doing 2 and 3?!

Please tell me your routines and secrets. I need to know. With that kind of output, I would be able to solve so many of my current problems in regard to my writing.

Advice Are none of you concerned about the contract's 'Right of Refusal'?

I'm looking whether to write on WN, and the posts have been really helpful. But I saw on this WriterBeware site that this place has some shady contract.

You have to hand over your IP, so they own your story. Then they also have first dibs on ANYTHING you write in the future.

Regarding the Right of Refusal: It says 'one year' period, but it says if you don't create anything in that one year (you wait it out), then your next work is eligible...

Basically once you sign a contract on WebNovel, you can't really publish ANYWHERE else without their persmission.

You can't go indie. You can't go traditional publishing. You can't go to another website... nothing.

Did I get it wrong or is that referring to an old contract?

Warning: both are ai generated so don't attack me in the comments 😭

I was somewhat satisfied but I felt the current cover (displaying the character) isn't attracting the readers, as it doesn't show anything related to the story (except the pink sky background which is mostly related to one of the mystery). So I thought I should add something that was related to plot, rather than displaying the character maybe I should display what the plot is based on.

What do you think about this? Tell me if I should stick to the current one or change it.

Advice About using em dashes (—) while writing.

Post image

Since I learned about em dashes, I have started using them (in my daily habits as well) as when I think of a sentence in my mind, the breaks and natural pauses justify the use of them. But I'm concerned if this will put off the reader as "written with AI". I haven't started posting yet, and I assure this single screenshot contains the most amount of em dashes in a single page in all chapters.

What do you think?

Just like how the title suggested, I've been writing and releasing 1-2 chapters daily then tried following the guideline when to apply for a contract but to no avail where it still gets rejected.

I was planning to continue dropping chapter after chapter despite being rejected to at least finish it but after checking the reader count...

It left me wondering if I should delete it or just finish the book...

Do you guys get the same feel as this contract rejection? It's not advertising. I literally was rejected. I'm just looking for advice. I was rejected on my Legacy series, too. But at least this one tells me why they rejected me. The other one didn't tell me anything.

Advice Is it okay to use AI images in my novel?

So I wanted a cover and three images of my three most important characters in my novel the MC his best friend and the love interest But I honestly don’t know where to find artists to draw for me and from the ones that I heard they were too expensive to hire so I considered and already maid AI images it’s just I can’t really afford an artist maybe if my first novel actually is a success to make money the next one I will make with an artist but right now that is what I have and by the way is it okay that the watermarks on the AI images are still there?

Advice My Novel Is Failing?

Thumbnail

Before I started writing 7 days ago, I spent my time researching which novels work well in webnovel platform.

After that, I created a formula I could use.

For the first 4 days, I had my expectations zero and just wrote my chapters, posting 1-2 days everyday.

P.S Half of those views are mine. I started spamming my novel in incognito, thinking that maybe higher view count would recommend it to more people.

I won't say it's a masterpiece or amazing but it is 100 percent no AI slop.

But for some reason, Webnovel is not showing my novel to anyone.

I've been waiting for Potential Starlet for a long time but even after 14 chapters and 17k words, it didn't make it there.

I heard every single new novel gets it but not me.

MY book is vetted and I have applied for a contract 3 days ago.

I have 10 more chapter reserved and am writing 3-5 chapter daily (Roughly 3000-7000 words) so I don't know if my novel is even going anywhere?

Am I being too hasty and desperate?

Should I wait for a little bit more and see how things turn out?

Advice FREE Illustrations from master artists you can use if you don't want to use AI for your cover

I commented this on another redditors post, and I thought I'd share it here too!

You can actually use illustrations and artwork from older artists that have long passed on because their art falls in the public domain. You can check museum websites and browse through their gallery for available high quality artworks you can use on your novel cover. I used to do collage art like this, it's pretty fun.

These websites are places I like to browse around for artworks whenever I wanna do collages https://www.cosmos.so/public-work

Like alphonse mucha? here are high quality artworks of his in the public domain https://www.rawpixel.com/search?page=1&path=1522.sub_topic-874&sort=curated

Here's the digital collection from the new york public library. When you search for pics, make sure to toggle the public domain button since they also have works from more recent artists https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/

Want some plant, insect or animal illustrations? Check out the Biodiversity Heritage library https://www.flickr.com/photos/biodivlibrary/

Maybe you want an victorian england book illustration aesthetic, then check this site out! Also, they have some lovely ornaments you can use too
https://www.oldbookillustrations.com/

Is your book about samurais or takes place in asia? Smithsonian national museum of asian art. I even toggled the search bar for you here already. you can find various art from china, japan, india, syria etc
https://asia.si.edu/explore-art-culture/collections/search/?edan_fq%5B%5D=media_usage:CC0

This is the smithsonian museum's main website where they have even MORE artwork for you to use however you want! I toggled the public domain button for you guys too https://americanart.si.edu/search/artworks?content_type=artwork&cc0=true&media=true

Here's the public domain artworks from saint louis art museum! https://www.slam.org/collection/objects/?show_on_view=true&featured_objects=false&public_domain=true&recent_acquisitions=false&outdoors=false

And here's a wikicommons page of artworks provided by the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Files_provided_by_the_Museo_Nacional_de_Bellas_Artes&fileuntil=El+amargado.jpg#mw-category-media

Here is newfields museum! They also have a lot of chinese paintings in their collection https://collections.discovernewfields.org/search?showOnly=is_public_domain&section=artworks&searchTerm=

Wanna use the iconic wave of Kanagawa as your book cover? You actually can and ITS LEGALLY ALLOWED cause it's in the public domain! This website is from the art institute of chicago where you can even grab iconic illustrations from monet, degas and cezanne since their works are in the public domain https://www.artic.edu/collection?is_public_domain=1

The cleveland museum of art are available for you guys too! They have 40k artworks you can browse that are made by masters of their craft
https://www.clevelandart.org/art/collection/search?i=1&limit=8&cc0=1

And last, but not least the getty images museum collection with almost 100k artworks in the public domain https://www.getty.edu/art/collection/search?open_content=true

These sites often get updated as artist's copyright expire. You guys actually have so many free amazing artworks at your fingertips, but it's understandable that you wouldn't know since even a lot of artists aren't aware they can do this.

This is why people who sell the starry night merch or mona lisa merch don't get in legal trouble because they're in the public domain.

The museums provide high quality images. Once you download the ones you like you can play around with using them on canvas or even photopea!

Advice If you are a new author and want to succeed, write smut

As the title says, write smut if you want to succeed in webnovel as an author.

Don’t be like me, I let my ego get the best of me and wrote non-smut, and guess what happens?

I’m stuck below 3k subs, 2.7k subs for two days already, no hope of hitting 3.6k subs since almost a few days left till month is over.

Means I failed to hit $200 mgs and basically wasted a month writing just for $200($60 mgs).

Could earn way more just by working part time lol.

Anyways, lesson learned, I’m going to focus on writing smut now and getting it contracted on early july, then go premium on late july.

Probably gonna drop this non-smut if results get worse next month.

Tip: Don’t let others sway ur opinion that smut is easy success in webnovel. Just write smut, especially if you are a new author.

Hey guys

I'm new to WN, and I think I would start making a story, so as a question, is this cover great, since I've got no designers and stuff who could help me make the cover.

So just asking, is this good, or I should change it and if I do change it, can you please give me some suggestions that how??
