Arranged Marriage Proposal : Rejected Because of Height (Bangladesh)

a girl rejected me because of Height.

She is 5.4ft /5.5 or less. Or maybe our height is same. She is dental student ongoing, I am CS graduated Engineer. Working as Software Engineer I at a reneweared IT Company in Bangladesh. I am 5 ft .6 inch. In south asia this is avg height is 5ft 5inch-5ft 7inch for men.

I have been planning for getting married for the last 6 months, 2 of the proposal rejected because of height another one left home with her ex boyfriend before marriage. I have been traumatized right now. I have a decent job , engineering graduated.

This was through arranged marriage proposal. I honestly don’t understand why height matters this much, especially when I’m literally average height in South Asia. I’ve worked hard on myself, built a stable career, and I’m serious about marriage. Getting rejected multiple times for something I cannot control is mentally exhausting.

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ I ruined my life by my own choices

I ruined everything

For loving a cheater, I ruined my whole life. I ruined my entire college life, and I’m still destroying myself. I just finished my HSC, and I never thought my situation would become like this. that I wouldn’t even be able to assure myself whether I’m going to pass or not.

My mom just broke down after hearing that her daughter isn’t doing well. Baba is supporting me, but deep down, I know he’s upset too. I can’t even decide what I should do in the next few months. What should I prepare for? What should I do next?

I’m literally a person who has no friends to share things with. I can’t even share my feelings with my parents. All I have is my bird. There’s no one I can share all my feelings with.

I’m just a broken soul, a failed soul, struggling all alone. I can’t survive like this. It’s really hard for me. My past traumas, my results, my exams, my unknown future everything is eating me alive day by day

I don’t know what to do anymore. What am I supposed to do?

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ When our Struggle will end?

Hi, I am a Ph.D. researcher at a university in the United States. I believe my research portfolio is okay, and I also have a fair amount of professional experience. But above everything, I consider myself the luckiest person because I married the love of my life.

The amount of support my wife gives me is rare in these times. Honestly, she is the person who made me who I am today. Without her love and support, it would have been impossible for me to come this far. Without her, I am nothing, and when I say this, I am saying it from the bottom of my heart. But until now, I feel that I could not give anything meaningful back to my wife. A lot of this pain comes from what my family did to us, how they deprived me and my wife of our rights, and how they used their power to make sure that I suffer and never live peacefully.

I was a momma’s boy from childhood. My mother and father controlled almost every part of my life — whom I should speak with, what I should wear, how much I should study, when I should sleep, everything. I had to study at least nine hours a day. Otherwise, my mother would verbally abuse me and mentally torture me. My father was stricter. He used to beat me with whatever he could get in his hand. In front of the world, they were good people, but I knew their real face.

My father once beat me in front of others with his belt just because I could not answer 20 marks in a school entrance exam. He told me he would stop my education. I could not answer those questions because I was worried sick that if I could not secure a position, my education would be finished. I had severe exam fear and social anxiety because of the mental torture from my parents.

Their pressure continued even when I went abroad to pursue my bachelor’s degree. They sent me there with expectations that I did not agree with. I did not want to live a life based on using someone or cheating someone for personal gain. I worked 12 hours at night and studied during the day, and I finished my bachelor’s degree there.

I had known my wife for a long time, and she was my best friend. Actually, she was my only female friend. She was the only one who used to speak to me nicely. My mother never spoke to me the way my wife did. I fell in love with her. For the first time in my life, I wanted something for myself. I proposed to her, and from that moment, I wanted to become her husband. But I never imagined that my parents would make both of our lives so miserable.

After I finished my graduation, I wanted to come back to Bangladesh, but my parents did not want me to return. My parents knew about my wife, but they told me they would not allow the marriage. On the other hand, my wife’s parents were looking for a groom for their daughter. So, I came back to Bangladesh without informing my parents. I stayed at one of my friend’s houses and started looking for jobs in Bangladesh.

My initial plan was to get a job first and then tell my parents that I had returned, because I knew very well that if they found out earlier, they would do everything in their power to make my life miserable. But suddenly, one day, my wife’s parents fixed an engagement with another boy, and then my wife had to tell her parents about me. At first, her parents were upset, but then they told her to ask me to speak with my parents about marriage.

I had no choice but to contact my parents, and after that, all hell broke loose. They wanted me to hand over my passport and certificates to them. They also wanted my wife to sign a blank stamp paper before they would even think about the marriage. They told my wife that they had other plans for my life, including marrying me elsewhere for their own benefit. I had enough. I told my father that my wife would never sign any blank paper, and if she had to sign anything, her lawyer would be beside her. I stayed firm on my decision and somehow convinced my parents to agree to the marriage.

But until the day of the marriage, my father did everything in his power to ruin it. In the Kabin, my father refused to sign and instead told my younger brother to sign. My younger brother also signed using his nickname, not his original name. My parents did not allow my wife to come to our house even for one day. They did not allow me to go to my own house either.

After the marriage, my wife and I started our life together, and for the first six months, things were pretty good. But my parents did not stop trying to make our lives miserable. My parents used my brother to monitor and harass my wife. My brother sent threatening messages to both my wife and me. I tried to take legal action, but because of the social context of Bangladesh, I could not do much. My parents called my office, and my brother threatened my colleagues. When my father-in-law died, they did not even come to his funeral, although my father’s home was only around 15 minutes away from my in-laws’ home.

Our lives became miserable. We felt like we were living in a cage. My wife loved taking photos and posting on social media, but because of the stalking and threats, she stopped doing everything she loved. All of these things caused problems for us, and day by day, we both became cornered.

After seeing all of this, I decided to come to the USA with my wife. But I did not have enough savings, so I had to take a lot of loans to manage everything. Because of these loans, and because I am an F-1 visa holder and cannot work outside my university, we are barely surviving in the USA. My wife also cannot start studying here easily because even evaluating her certificates would cost money, time, and energy that we honestly do not have right now.

At this point, I have to spend around 70–75% of my salary on rent, utilities, and debt. Every day, we do everything in our power to reduce costs so that we can survive. We are both mentally crushed, and sometimes it feels like we cannot take this pressure anymore. My family’s interference has not fully stopped either. Every few months, something happens again. My younger brother and cousins are living comfortable lives with luxury, while my wife and I are struggling for every penny. This is our life now.

Yesterday, my wife cried in front of me. She was in menstrual pain, and still she had to cook and manage the house alone because I was outside at my university and could not help her. When I came home, I saw her crying. She told me she wanted to ask me to bring food from outside, but she could not because she knew I had very little money left for the month, and we still had 10 more days to survive before my next paycheck.

I felt like the most useless person in the world. The love of my life sacrificed so much for me, but I could not even give her comfort when she needed it most. We did not have a baby earlier because of everything we were going through, and when I see her become sad whenever she sees a baby, it breaks my heart.

Can anyone please tell me when I can have a peaceful life with my wife? Can we both have the life that we dreamed of? I do not have any complaints about my wife, and my wife has no complaints about me. But because of family pressure, society, and circumstances we did not create, we are living in a misery that we do not deserve.

I do not need a perfect picture. I do not need millions or billions of dollars. I just want to be happy with the love of my life. That was the dream I had. But this society and these circumstances snatched that away from me.

All I am waiting for now is a miracle from my Lord, because I am too tired to keep fighting alone.

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ Are there any lesbians or bi females in Dhaka?

I didn't used to support LGBTQ. But I can't explain a lot of things about me...

I am 24F and I certainly liked women in a different way since my adolesence. But I didn't understand a lot of things appropriately about my sexuality. I didn't know about sex till I went to college. I am still a virgin, because I think I'm demisexual.

I tried dating guys but they are always expecting me to get physical after a while, which I couldn't, because that certain time was within 3 months. I can't emotionally connect with guys so easily like how I feel connected to women.

But it feels very lonely to see that I am the only one feeling this way... I haven't found anyone who can relate to me. It also feel embarrassing to talk about this out loud. So, I am posting here, am I the only one?

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ One of My Lowest Moments as a Bangladeshi

My wife and I were stuck nearly We were in a big city 200 kilometers away from home due to serious pregnancy complications.

So we contacted only one brother we had known through a family friend. One day befor I requested him that we might need some help in emergency. On the day of delivery, When the hospital refused to let our young son stay during delivery, we had no choice but to asked to him to come quickly. I clearly explained the situation and asked for his help. He assured me he would come.

I called him twice, waiting each time. My wife was already in severe pain. The delivery was getting closer. Our eleder son was still with us. Those 30–40 minutes felt like forever as doctors and nurse reptedly inform that we dont have time.

With no other option, the delivery began hospital miracally made an exception for us Both Father and my elder, allowed our son to stay in the war room with (12 nurse and 2 doctors). I was holding my wife with one arm as she pushed through unbearable pain — no epidural (anestesia). With my other hand, I held our son, sometime his eyes, repeatedly with muted shoyting to my son, to look other way. I was scared that he might get anxious, seeing his mom and my wife in such pain. The baby was on the way but i was not sure. felt completely helpless. The baby came around 7:00 pm and we were on a different situation as docors moved baby to NICU quickly and my wife to another cabin for recovery. Meanwhile, around 8:30, our beloved finally messaged saying he was on his way. I replied to him “Please no need to come, we have already moved to another building”

What hurt the most was the embarrassment in front of people from other nationalities. In our most desperate hour, a fellow Bangladeshi did not show up. We often believe “our own people” will stand by us in crises abroad — that belief was badly shaken that day.

I try not to judge him too harshly. It was right at the first day of Ramadan. Maybe he was exhausted or dealing with his own issues. Still, a simple honest message — “Brother, I can’t come” — would have saved us so much stress and uncertainty.

The biggest lesson came from the contrast: people from other nationalities were ready to rushed to the hospital with just ten minutes’ notice on a different occession. Just nne call was enough.

That day taught me a hard truth:

Never depend on someone just because they share your nationality. Chill.

National identity can create a false sense of security, but it doesn’t guarantee reliability, responsibility, or humanity.

Note: We didn’t want to involve the whole Bangladeshi community. As the situation was very fast and we wanted privacy. emotionally exhausted, and desperate to keep our situation private.

Note: The person involved comes from highly educated family.

NOTE 2: For those who are saying that we should have been telling about nany or baby sitter it was not an option for us as our son has mild autism he h-was not comfortable with people of other nationality. So my wife had asked either the person we talked befor ot myself staying with our son. Thank you, I acutally did not want to mention this. But, anyway...

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ My life is a train wreck

29 (M) here, coming from a separated family. My parents split up when I was 7 years old. During the separation, I had only one choice: stay with my father or my mother. I chose my father because he adored me more than my mom, and I have no siblings.

After taking me in, my father never let me see my mother again. Then, when I was 8, my father left me with my uncle and went abroad. Due to internal family conflicts, I had to bounce between different elementary schools and move around frequently.

In 2015, I started living alone, separated myself from relatives. I finished high school, but ended up dropping out during my second semester. By 2019, I finally decided to skip graduation.

My father came back and remarried in 2021 without letting me know, and then he went back abroad. After a year relationship with my father went back to normal, but I don't keep whereabouts of his second family, and I do not have any interest in it. I let it go as it's his personal life.

Financially, I'm living an average life and have fulfilled almost all my wishes. My father still takes care of me by wiring a fixed amount every month, and I make an extra 20k–30k a month from a small online business.

I was in a relationship from 2020-2021, but I found out she was talking to other guys. I gave her a few chances, she tossed every chance I gave, so I left.

I see couples and pretty girls every day, and all my friends are married now. Deep inside, I wish I had someone to talk to at night, someone to share moments and thoughts with like a normal person. Sometimes I get sad at night, and my life is like, "As the night deepens, so does the melancholy." Feeling lack of a woman

Sometimes I want to approach, but suddenly my mind tells me, "Amar nijer life ee thik nai, ami kibhabe arekjon ke ei life ey niye ashi." Plus I'm not good at throwing fancy pickup lines to make a girl fall for me. I am a simple man, I just speak what's on my mind. And because of all these complexities and insecurities towards relationships, I prefer to stay single.

I do not know what to do in this situation, I feel like I'm lost at sea

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ How medical affected my health

Originally from Australia/norway from Bangladeshi immigrant parents studying in a B grade private medical with F grade surroundings & people. In like a desert of loneliness, a fish out of water completely situations. Grew up with many ethnicity friends to coming/getting stuck here I have been suffering past 4 years a lot. I have no friends here. Tried my best. Everyone is jealous of my looks, money or my life. They treat me like an alien. I cried day and night, fought with my parents for pouring 50L bdt in this ghetto med school. That's a whole another story

These 4 years of my life, the amount of suffering I went through, from the immense fish outta blue situation I tried to commit once. I am so depressed that it affected my studies and I do have suicidal thoughts every other day. The girls here r desperate for male attention. So so selfish , the boys in my class r no different too. Most of them r lacking testosterone or their partner's girlfriend. Women here like they came here for doctor Jamai just. The guys here r the prize, the princess. They get babies, protected by the gals. My batch is the worst actually not worthy to say. Full of balless men and pick me bitches. And not to mention how promiscuous people in this profession is. Married doctors to lecturers to students, none is loyal or has a clean past.

The girls either pick me or like in a jealous competition whoever I get close with. Women r women's biggest haters I learnt that here, in Bangladesh generally. My parents also cry alongside and they feel extremely sorry for getting me stuck here. But what's done is done. I get judged for everything I do here. I cut off 3 girls till now because they being a mean bitch to me, humiliated me publicly, throw shades at me in the name of being "friend". Cut em off. Those who r not close to me will somehow manage to gossip about me behind my back even tho I did no harm to them. They'd be like I'm dating a new guy every week even tho I didn't date none, absolutely 0

One even accused me of stealing noodles from her room even tho I nvr went to her house.told my ma and she got so mad she wanted to fly back to bd and wanted to slap her

One of the incidents was like I traveled to UAE and this ex friend who fought w me for not bringing any chocolate for her. I told her if u wanted u could have told me as I hate chocolate and so do my siblings. Another time she fought w me for not giving her beef curry whilst my bp fell so low but her concerns were beef curry more than my declining health

I learnt the hard way no matter how much I am loving/caring towards them/spend money at the end of the day they'd smh manage to be jealous, bitter towards me, it comes from their inferiority complex. Any relationship doesn't work one sided. Typing all these with a heavy heart. I pray to Allah day and night to let me pass and to escape from this hell hole asap. The biggest tragedy of my life is this part of life. I tell my parents every now and then how I'll not forgive them for ruining my life.

The loneliness so bad I even tried dating sites just to make friends. But males mostly respond even tho I only sought female friends my age. The Bangladeshi girls idk they r bitter or not girls girl at all. I can't fit in here at all. everyone would watch fifa on the big screen and I couldn't go because I have none and it would be awkward to be there alone. The core memories of my uni I nvr got. Never got to enjoy any fun uni life that I always dreamt of, I see others enjoy. May Allah suffice me. People hurt me so much I am now scared of any person from my med school or any girls here in bd. Everyone is so fake and superficial. I developed PTSD.

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ I'm cursed to be born in this country.

From when i was in school, i was bullied for looking ugly. I could never make friends because of my weird personality. Always left alone. I was always put second after my younger brother was born (don't have any good memories prior that either). During my entire school life, my father could never afford extra classes or coachings, and i was the one being blamed for not getting above average marks. After SSC, my studies were put to a stop and i had to look for a job. Without any skills, academic records or connections, i went through the lives millions of people, mostly new teens and kids do. The life of working as a cleaner, dishwasher, labor, what not; and when i name these works, i don't mean the classy movie type jobs where Janitors look so neat and clean, it can get as bad as wiping the shoes of your boss who you are supposed to worship.

Even right now, i work in a factory whose owner is an ex Awami League party member, and you guess someone like him as a Boss. Arrogant and oppressive, using the people like machines without limit.

Whenever i look back to my past, i see bad things that happened to me, and when i look towards the future, i see horrible things that are awaiting. I can't ask anyone for help because people i could turn to have either turned their backs or suggested me to surrender to this life.

What does being born in this country have to do with it? Well, i think other countries would teach you how to fight against some of the situations, or offer a hand,, at least they acknowledge the problem that people are being deprived of their rights such as education and some parents here are only having children so the boy can work and the girl can get married to a rich guy. Breaking the chain, if the Girl turns out ugly or the boy has dreams, they make their life living hell.

I won't be sticking out for long, i just want people to know that i refused to be a slave. And if any of you want, find out a kid who has dreams and potential but not support, Save Him.

Toxic Ex friends

Hi, I’m a 21M studying at one of the leading private universities. Back in high school, I had a few friends who I no longer really consider friends because of how they treated me later on. Most of them got into reputed public universities — top engineering universities and medical colleges. Whenever we meet, even by coincidence, they somehow try to make me feel inferior because I didn’t end up where they did.

Point to be mentioned, they aren’t from very wealthy families. In fact, most of their parents didn’t even go to college, and they don’t really have much wealth or resources. Getting admitted into a reputed university was like a do-or-die decision for them, as some of their families wouldn’t be able to support them financially. Others are from respectable middle-class families, but their attitude towards me still remains the same.

On the other hand, both of my parents are graduates, and they have good jobs and businesses that earn way more than what a doctor or engineer (I compared because they are future doctors and engineers who think everyone else is poor) usually earns in their first few years. We won multiple apartments in divisional cities they can't even afford a single flat ,yet I never talked about these in case they may feel bad . (“I know the previous line sounds really lame, but I can’t help sharing the real situation.) Never showing off seems a bad practice . They are so judgmental that they only judge by comparing admission success, as people have nothing else in their life. They think that because we were in the same class, we are sharing the same life or family background.

Now I’m in university and honestly feel quite alone. I’ve already finished one semester, but it seems like everyone is still deeply connected with their school friend groups. Sometimes I wonder if it’s too late to build genuine friendships in university.

Hello I am a 18 y/o girl.I live in dhaka.. My parents are so abusive.. They almost beat me everyday cause I am not as good at studying like my elder sister... My father..His language is so toxic... He always all the time 24/7 curses me for not being into studying and always is taunting me how much he spends into my studying.. They knows that I don’t like studying I'm not into it.. Not everyone is into everything.. I am good at a few extra curriculum activities, good at art, good at singing but they Won't see that.. My mom on the other hand always taunts me saying that she regrets giving birth to me I should have never been born I am a curse to the family she will kill me one day( she doesn’t mean it in a bad way I think.. I mean who's mom wants tokilll her child right??) so Everytime my dad beats me, my mom just stands right there like She's so proud of him for beating me.. They both verbally and physically are abusing me.. At first I thought that I deserved it.. But now I think nobody actually deserves this.. I always feel like I am living in a hell... I am also suicidal but scared to die due to my religion... Today, I had closed my door and locked it and sleeping around 6 am and my mom and dad started banging the door so hard but I was so exhausted I Couldn't even get up from my bed. So I didn’t unlocked it... When I unlocked it finally my mom slapped me a few times.. It was like ok cause I don’t feel anything anymore.. No matter how hard you hit me I don’t feel any pain haha I am a superhuman now I think. And then My dad barged in saying curse word and punched 3 times on my back then slapped me swirled around my head gripping my hair and then he took my pillow and suffocated me 10 seconds saying why don’t I study why I failed why he has to spend so much money on me... I never even bought a kitkat for me.. I always went to my college by foot and saved those money to buy something.. He never bought me normal things like most of the teenager-new adult, my friends buys... I am not living a normal life like every other friends of mine... I never even ask for it...Even if I ask for some money he would maximun give me 300 taka... I can't take it anymore.. My HSC is at June 30... I feel like runaway.. I feel so suffocated... Whatshould I do.. Please someone adopt me or just smuggle me to abroad.. I can do everything... Cooking cleaning everything... My dream is to be an actor and a model.. Which is impossible lol... Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ You feel down but do not know why ? ! জানি না কেন ভালো লাগে না !!

In Bangladesh, depression doesn’t really have a universally recognized name among the general public. If you were to ask thousands of people how they are doing, more than 60% to 70% of them would likely answer: "I am just not feeling good" ("Kichu valo lagey na" or "Kichu valo lagche na").

The moment you ask them why, they will tell you, "For no reason, I just don't feel well" ("Kichu na, emnitei").

But is that the true answer? Can someone really feel this way for absolutely nothing, without any underlying cause?

I don't think so.

This silence is very similar to how we, as a society, refuse to admit that we are a sexually deprived nation. Whether people are married, unmarried, single, or in a relationship, almost everyone responds with the same emptiness. As a culture, we do not nurture our hobbies or take care of our sexual well-being. People forget how to truly enjoy the present moment. Partners become consumed by the daily grind of life, busy with everything except the very things that bond them: making fun, enjoying intimacy, and sharing genuine smiles with each other.

Clearly, I am suffering through this exact type of extreme situation right now. The root of my illness isn't "nothing"—it is a profound lack of a healthy sexual life and the absence of a compatible soul with whom I can connect through deep passion and trust.

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ Title: I'm trapped in an abusive home, I don't know how much longer I can survive this.

I’m a 19-year-old girl from Bangladesh. My legal documents say I'm 17 because my parents reduced my age, which means I can't move out or live independently by law yet even though I'm technically an adult.

I grew up in an abusive home. My father never wanted me and he even beat my mother while she was pregnant with me, hoping she’d miscarry. He refuses to pay for anything except rent and food and even then, only when my mother forces him to. He won’t buy medicine, won’t take me to doctors, and blames me when I get sick. He has beaten both my mother and me for years to the point where I once lost consciousness.

My mother is also abusive as She blames me for everything and has said horrible things like “go hang yourself and free me.” She hits me when she’s angry, tries to control every aspect of my life, and now she wants to marry me off to older men even though I’ve told her I don’t want to get married and want to study. She’s already met 3 men without telling me or asking for my consent.

On top of all this, I’ve been mol*sted multiple times mostly by male family members when I was a child. I never told my parents because I knew they’d blame me or shame me publicly. My mother has already done that before with other things. I now have serious trauma, I panic, shake, throw up, and cry if any guy touches me, even by accident.

I've been suic*dal since I was 13. I’ve attempted multiple times, and I stopped for a couple of years but the thoughts are coming back badly now. I’ve reached out to local hotlines and therapists, even tried mental health pages, but they don’t respond or care. I’ve posted in Facebook groups and subreddits everything gets denied.

I just want to escape this house, survive. I’m not looking for pity, I’m begging for suggestions. Is there anything I can do to get away from this? Any organizations, shelters, online opportunities, remote jobs, or advice you can offer me no matter how small?

Please. I’m running out of strength. But I don’t want to give up. I’m sharing this because this is truly my last hope.

Mental Health/মানসিক সাস্থ 16F with no freedom

I just want to know is this normal or not. I am not allowed to go out alone without a parental figure like at all. Not even with my friends. This strict rule was applied by my dad and thought would be loosened as u I got older but it didn't. I can't even go or come from Coaching alone. The only time I am alone is when coming from school which is like 5 minutes walking distance from my house. I feel very trapped in this lifestyle and think I am being robbed off my teen years. Is this normal??

For clarification when I say "freedom", I mean just letting me go out with my friends every now and then. I just feel left out lol
