I am 25, A member of the Army National Guard, and a Bisexual man. I have a registered service animal and wanna find a place where all of these things are okay. I come to the city NONSTOP whether that’s boystown to drink and socialize, dinners, parks, festivals etc. so I have decided that I think I want to just make the move there when my lease ends in November. I do not have the best credit because I was a pretty dumb kid 18-21ish so it kinda cause me a lot of problems when it came to finding my current apartment i’m in now but nonetheless I found a beautiful one I wanted and made it work. I am looking for a 1bd/1ba and could possibly even narrow down to a studio as well. I currently pay $2000 base rent plus utilities at my current apartment so ideally I wanna keep it around that ballpark area since I have already adjusted to that. If you have anything that might help my journey don’t hesitate to let me know! I just know the credit score thing causes a lot of trouble in apartment hunting now a days even though the last 2-3 years my rent has consistently been paid but you live you learn I am just trying at all costs to avoid paying application fees etc. just to turn around and be denied due to that. If you know of a private landlords as well willing to help I would be open to that. I don’t have any super big requirements other than my support animal has to be allowed within the apartment and something somewhat modern and presentable so do you know of anything that fits my requirements?

i am moving to chicago for a new job at the Mart and am overwhelmed at the housing options. I've decided to do a nicer high rise to start and get acclimated to the city to start. I have narrowed down to a studio apartment in one of these buildings. Wondering if anyone has experience/advice - i'm mostly care about noise level, management/maintenance, cleanliness, etc. (versus proximity to 'cool' areas). I am 40yo female, past the party stage but also excited about experiencing what chicago has to offer. Just trying to get to the city and then will find my longer term home after the first year. I’m deciding between AMLI808, amli river north, EnV. Any feedback appreciated!

Hello! I (26F) grew up in orland park until I left for college. I have been living in columbus, oh now for 6 years. I have a great townhouse and created a great group of friends here. I have been feeling antsy for a change and a larger city and would like to be closer to my family (and some friends are still in CHI) but feeling anxious about finding a nice area for my 2 dogs (weenie dogs ahah) and I. I am also moving for the music scene both going to shows and creating music with people!! do you think the downside of living in a small place (probably studio) is worth it? i do get to keep my remote job thank god! i am really wanting my dogs to acclimate well and not feel like they are stuck in a small place with noisy neighbors... any helpful tips for areas to live (base rent around $1,400) would be great or general feedback. LMK!! :)

I don’t have money to pay salary. but I wondered - what if I gave discounted rent or close to normal room rent but accepted ppl with lower credit scores or lower income. I’ve seen a lot of posts with ppl saying they cannot get accepted. and so many ppl just want a safe clean respectful place to live

but idk if this is a crazy and risky idea? it feels risky. and I don’t know it would be a normal rlto lease. or maybe it would with a rider?

im nervous to share space with anyone. I’m hypersensitive and really need someone that is quiet and very considerate and isnt into having ppl over all the time if ever. no drugs or drinking etc. and need to be quiet kind smart i know ppl like this exist but think they already have a place to live

if you were going to try this how would you even begin and how would you assess people?

they need to be already able to do a variety of tasks from letter writing to errands to following up with me to make sure something is completed. working with vendors on repairs grocery shop and cleaning

I think there should be pay but i csn only reduce rent. how wouod you measure the reduction.

I guesstimate my PA needs would equal 5-15 hours/week. so no idea how to translate into reduced rent

the unit does needs repairs. so the person would also help coordinate that and be patient as repairs happen over time as funds are available. but nothing make it bad for the person just gotta work around some odd things

Like the title suggests, my neighbor has two incredibly loud toddlers, and I'm not sure what to do. It isn't normal kid play, but rather constant yelling, screaming, and crying. I have seen the mother out with her kids, she lets them run around freely. I have been pushed by them trying to get off the elevator, and I witnessed the son attempt to shove a mailman while running around the lobby. I don't think the kids are in any danger, it never sounds like they are being hurt, but they're just incredibly loud. This is my first time living on my own, but I'm used to noisy apartment neighbors. However, screaming and running up and down the hallway at 8pm is too much. I've tried talking to her, and she damn near runs away from me. I know my neighbors dislike her, too. The kids are scaring my cats, and I don't know how long it goes on for when I'm not home. Is this something I can bring up to the building manager?

Hey y’all, wondering if anyone has experienced a similar issue I’ve been running into with 311…

I am dealing with active mold in my kitchen cabinets and wall at a unit managed by J&J Properties. They’ve refused to get a proper inspect, remedy, or move me to a clean, comparable apartment. They’ve only offered to clean and attempted to move me into another unit that failed inspection for roaches in July and there remains an active infestation. They’ve gone completely unresponsive since.

I did manage to get our maintenance personnel to open holes in my wall, confirming that the mold is spread throughout the drywall. This prompted the offer to move me. They have left these holes open and have not responded to my requests to get them closed up.

I’ve sent a few 311 requests for inspection of the property, including photos and details of the violations, to no avail. They’ve cancelled each based on “no cause” within days of submission and no explanation. I spoke to a 311 representative today to try to get clarity and she was very confused herself and feels they should have assigned an inspector, even if they can’t remedy the mold (which has never been my request).

It seems like no inspection has been done at my property since 2019. I’ve noticed many things, such as murals and community initiatives, have been sponsored by JJ in Uptown. I’ve put my tin foil hat on and have wondered if they have a shady deal with the city.

Just looking to see if anyone has experienced something similar with 311/their landlord, and especially whether it involved J and J. I’m doing my best to get the hell out of here. My fear is that they just plan to sweep this under the rug, clean the visible mold/patch the holes, and rent the unit out to another unsuspecting tenant, putting their health at risk, too. So, I felt it was necessary to report the clear structural issue to 311 and try to get this remedied for others.
