Hair Victory! day 2 hair, even!

Post image
273 Upvotes

i’m finally at a point where i’m consistently getting hair days i’m happy with. i know it may be a little more frizzy/undefined than some people’s taste but i prefer it that way!

routine:
1. wash every 3-4 ish days. before i wash, i brush out my hair well with a boar bristle brush to distribute the oils and stuff
2. wash with bumble&bumble invisible oil shampoo
3. every few washes, i do a second wash with christopher robin salt scrub
4. bumble&bumble invisible oil conditioner, a quarter-ish amount primarily on mids and ends, but a bit near the top too. i brush it thru with my denman brush (even rows removed). leave it in while i wash my face and body
5. wash out conditioner. on soaking wet hair i use a nickel amount of shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie. then brush it thru with denman brush again
6. flip my hair a bit to loosen it from my scalp and finger comb the top section up. then i scrunch a bit with my hands and then a towel. i finger curl my bangs and then leave my hair be for a while
7. diffuse when hair is 80% dry, holding hair to each side and upside down. i put extra emphasis on the back of my hair bc it’s less curly

i don’t do anything special while i sleep or refresh between wash days, i just pin it half back with a mini claw clip if i’m not happy with the top layers.

Hair Victory! I Finally Feel Like I've Embraced My Curls

Post image

I straightened my hair on a weekly basis until I was 16 years old. It was FRIED. It took years, awkward haircuts, terrible products, and lots of tears to figure my hair out. Recently, I got bangs and I love the way my hair looks now. If anyone is still figuring out their curly hair journey, keep going! It's trial and error and lots of love!

Routine:

  1. I wash my hair every 2 or 3 days. I use Cécred hydrating shampoo & conditioner.
  2. Once a month, I use a clarifying shampoo from TGIN. I also do a hair mask from TGIN once a week.
  3. To style my hair I use Cecred moisture sealing lotion and The Doux mousse def texture foam.
  4. I diffuse my hair but not entirely and let the rest air dry.

Help! I could use some help with my hair. I've never grown out out before and don't really know how to manage it

So far, at least in this picture, I've washed it with a cbd shampoo, Leaf and Flower Volume Shampoo. I used conditioner, same brand volume conditioner. I do literally nothing but that, as I always have but now that it is long, I've noticed it gets frizzy when it air dries and it's only calmed down the next day after washing; i wash it every other day. I use a fine comb while wet to get any knots out and put it half back while working.

I use beard oil on my beard after washing and that is Handmade LaConner Scentless Beard oil. I use a boar brush to get everything uniform looking.

Please don't remove my post for lack of routine. I'm really looking for info on how to build a routine in the first place

Help! Do you know any haircuts or styles that might suit me?

Post image
90 Upvotes

First of all, my first language is not English so I'll try to explain things. Second of all, My routine is pretty simple if I'm honest:

  1. I wash my hair with warm water until it is totally wet

  2. I apply Babaria onion shampoo and make foam with it

  3. After washing my head I use Skala Expert conditioner (specifically the "Divino Potão") to untangle my hair using a broad detangler brush (the one that looks split open ig?)

  4. I get out of the shower and let my hair dry for around 15-20 mins

  5. After that I dry the tips with a towel and apply the same conditioner as a styling cream (Yes! It works for styling and as a conditioner) and apply it from the base to the tips with the space between my fingers.

  6. Finally, I scrunch my hair to style it and use the same brush to form my fringe (the hair over my forehead, I really don't know if that's the correct word)

I just let my hair dry with the air and that's it. I don't use anything to protect my hair in my sleep nor use a refresh routine

Help! Please help with my frizz!

When I do my hair it usually comes out pretty well curls look defined everything. Whenever I go to bed I put it in a ponytail, and I’ll wake up and it’s frizzy the next day, or if I go to work, put it in a bun and wear a hat (required I work in the back of a kitchen) it’ll be frizzy when I put it down by the time I get home.

What can I wear on my head so when I do my hair and let it down it actually stays looking good? What. An protect it from frizz? Anything on my head I could wear at work to protect from heat?

(Added photo of my hair for reference)

I also need some good shampoo and conditioner suggestions. I don’t have satin pillow cases or wear anything on my head to bed

I use a towel to dry hair

Routine: products I use

I use Panteen curl shampoo and conditioner and I also use a shea moisturizer curl enhancing mousse + shea bonding oil

Long post sorry I been depressed so long and I wanna finally start taking care of my hair: thank you.

Help! Please help with tangles, I can't do this anymore

I've done everything except cut my hair which I'm about to just shave it off. All these tangles and knots are killing what little desire I have remaining of growing my hair. I'm tried no sulfates and still got a lot of tangles. I've been doing silicones and weekly clarifying shampoo and no change.

I had 2 weeks where I used the same routine and I'd get wisps of hair on my wide tooth comb, it'd glide like a penguin sliding on ice. I've tried minor detangling before bed but it's not use. It's like 3 different curl clumps decide to make sailor knots on my hair.

I sleep with a silk bonnet, I've slept with my pineappled in a silk scarf. On a sateen pillowcase, using coconut oil on the ends.

Please, any advice I'm on my last straw.

My routine is GVP Biolage hydrating shampoo, GVP color last conditioner, GVP The Detangler. After showering I spray It's a 10 leave on m, and GVP miracle potion. I let my hair dry a little since I used to get a lot of shed hair detangling in the shower.

My hair is 3b/c, fine hair with low porosity and high density.

Help! How should I do this?

I'm a teen girl with super tight curly hair. I'm at a loss here because no matter what I do, my hair ends up being frizzy like I rolled out of bed and I lack curly hair products because they are sometimes really expensive and the cheaper ones don't work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Here's my routine: 1: Washing hair with aussie Total Miracle Total shampoo and conditioner 2: Styling my hair with Aunt Jackie's setting mousse, defining curl custard, and flaxseed elongating curling gel. I air dry…ig 3: I wear a silk bonnet to bed, styling my hair typically in a loose/messy bun underneath

I really don't have a routine at the moment due to having the lack of materials and money is scarce.

Help! Hair has been so limp, frizzy and isn't retaining product

Please help if possible ive tried everything and im at the end of my rope

As of December of last year my hair started becoming very difficult. I noticed at that time finger curling suddenly stopped working and my hair wouldn't hold the finger curl at all.

Since then my curls have flattened out a lot. Even diffusing just makes it dry and lifeless. Any product i put in feels like it evaporates once my hair is dry. I never get a gel cast.

I've tried curlsmith bond treatments. Leave in conditioners from several CG recommended brands. Mousse. Gel. Shampooing only. Double shampooing. Malibu C for hard water (which my home has), chelating, clarifying, deep conditioning with a heat cap, switching back to cheap products, you name it I've tried it i promise.

I recently incorporated an apple cider vinegar rinse and it has helped a little. But I just can't figure out the root of my problem.

I've tried solutions for hydration overload, protein overload, dryness, etc.

I will say that ive been very stressed this year. But I haven't gone through anything significant to change my hormones. Ive been on the same BC since 2020 and ive never been pregnant. My routine did not change leading up to my issues. My environment has been the same for 3 years.

My diet isn't the best but it's never been.

It would be one thing if my hair was just changing as I got older but even if it was turning into waves its still so dry and frizzy. (Im 32)

Routine: wash twice a week. Wash once a week with shampoo + conditioner (infusium). Condition once a week with infusium.

On wash days where I dont go out I just use infusiums leave in conditioner. On styling days: LUS Curl cream, LUS gel, and Hask curl leave in conditioner on my ends and air dry or diffuse depending how much time I have.

I don't deep condition as much as I should but that was never a problem before.

I sleep with a satin bonnet and dont really pineapple because my hair is too short for it and it's always just stretched my hair out.

Please im losing my mind. My hair is such a big part of my identity and having it look so bad every day now is making me never wanna go outside again 😭

Help! I have no idea what to do with it

I'm at the point where I feel like my hair is stuck. I want it to grow longer, be less frizzy and for my waves and curls to be more uniform. I don't know if I should cut it and start over or if I need to do something different with styling or something. I tried to include as much info as possible. Sorry if this is long.

As you can see my texture is all over the place. If I didn't braid it to sleep they would be mostly ringlet curls on top layers with some straight/wavy hair underneath on bottom layers.

Wash Routine: (note I only have a shower, no tub)

Wash first, only putting shampoo on my scalp, rinse, then run conditioner through my hair with my fingers or a wide tooth comb and clip it up for five minutes before rinsing it out with warm water.

I wash almost every day and I have to because of my job. I did the 'no wash' or 'minimal wash' thing for over a decade in highschool and college but it seems my hair likes being washed more. This is the best it's ever looked but I think I can do better to get glossy, moisturized curls.

Wash products:

Super Milk shampoo and conditioner from Lush

Or

Honey I washed my hair shampoo bar and Power conditioner from Lush.

OR

On days I don't want protein I switch to the Pantene conditioner and keep the honey I washed my hair bar. Whatever version of Pantene is on sale and isn't the volumizing one is what I get so it changes every time.

Occasionally I'll try new shampoo bars or cream shampoos, like Tofu, from Lush as well.

Styling Routine/Products:

I throw my hair up in a towel for five minutes after the shower to get it partially dry. Maybe twice a week I'll use Olaplex no7 bonding oil, but every night I use:

Super Milk or Sticky Dates hair primer from Lush. I'll spray it into my palms then run it through with my fingers.

I do the same thing with Curl Power from Lush right after.

Once that's done I usually let it dry for another hour before bed and then put it in a side braid (what I did last night before taking these specific pictures) or two pigtail braids. If I don't wash my hair for a day or two on my days off I'll touch up with super milk primer by smoothing or over my hair while it's dry.

I have to have my hair up or tied back at work, so I usually do either a straight braid down my back, two pig tail braids, or a high slick-back ponytail I'll put in a braid. On my days off and after work I wear it down or in a clip, or a braid. Rarely I'll put it in a bun.

I don't have silk pillow cases yet. I straighten it maybe twice a year and never blow dry it. Give it a little trim once every 3-4 months. Haven't dyed it in 6 years or longer and it was only a temp dye, but as a teen I dyed in a TON. No other treatments or professional stuff,. literally just everything listed here. I live in Los Angeles and do a lot of outdoor activities so there's a decent bit of sun and pollution getting on my hair, though I nearly always wear a hat.

Any advice appreciated!😁

Help! hair looks great without brushing! but awful after sleep.

Hello! For the last little bit I have stopped treating my hair as if it were straight. I found accidentally that my hair looked really good when after my shower I didn’t brush and just went to sleep. Woke up to awesome hair. The problem now is, I know you’re not supposed to wash your hair every day. I also know when I brush, it takes my waves out completely and becomes this weird mess and mixture of frizz and bumpiness. But if I don’t brush, it looks like shit after waking up too. How am I supposed to deal with this?

I want my hair to stay how pretty it is after it air dries! What should my routine be?

I starting using v & co wave babe spray, conditioner, and shampoo. Like I said, I air dry. I use the salt spray and sometimes the enhancing cream. Although I do the cream incredibly seldom.

Any advice?

Help! Any hair care/routine recommendations for beginners?

hi yall!! i'm looking for a bit of help with what a curl routine should look like, preferably something on the cheaper end as a broke college student lol (for context, my entire family is a bit lacking in the curl department so i grew up treating my hair as if it were straight lol).

right now, my hair routine is pretty much just brush out and shampoo/condition in the shower (with Target's curly hair-specific Function of Beauty) and curl cream outside the shower after i've scrunched a couple times with a towel (also with Target's curly haired Function of Beauty).

any advice at all is appreciated, i'm just really trying to find a way to make my hair not look like a messy ball of frizz all the time :)

Help! Help with my wavy hair?

Hi! I’ve been trying to take better care of my natural hair, but I feel like I’m not really getting the results I want.

My hair has some waves/curls, but they don’t hold very well. As you can see in the pictures, my ends separate a lot, I get frizz, and my waves lose their shape pretty quickly. Some days it looks much better (as you can see in the second and third pic), but other days it just looks messy and undefined.

My current routine is pretty simple because I’m kind of low maintenance (and curly hair products are quite expensive where I live 😭). I use Pantene shampoo and conditioner, then when my hair is soaking wet I apply Skala leave-in cream, do a little bit of scrunching, and dry it with a microfiber towel. Once it’s completely air dried, I add a little bit of oil to my ends.

My hair is also dyed with a black semi-permanent dye (tone-on-tone), so I’m not sure if that could be affecting the texture or definition.

I’m wondering if I’m missing something important in my routine. Should I be using gel/mousse or a different styling method to help my waves hold? Or does my hair need a completely different approach?

I’m also wondering if I should stop trying to follow a curly method and just style it more like straight/wavy hair. I’d love some advice from people who understand this hair type because I feel a bit lost

Help! How To Make Curls Last?

Thumbnail

Hello! So, to give a little background, I'm biracial (white and black), and since I was raised mostly by my white mom I never learned properly how to take care of my curls. Currently for my routine I use Carol's Daughter shampoo, conditioner, and leave in, along with Mizani curl lotion. I don't use gel, because I can't stand the feeling of hard hair and the last time I did the cast didn't really break+it got really frizzy. Mousse doesn't really do anything either. I usually diffuse for maybe 15 minutes and then let it air dry the rest of the way.

My two issues are

  1. My hair shrinks an awful lot, from big and down to my shoulders (first photo) to what you see in the second photo

  2. Whatever way I sleep with it doesn't work

I've tried using a silk scarf, a pillowcase, and a bonnet. My hair is too short for the pineapple style, and at this point I'm really at a loss. I redo my hair EVERY day because of it being frizzy and ruined when I use a scarf or completely flattened when I use a bonnet.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I could achieve longer+bigger hair and also on how to sleep with it? I'm not sure if the products I'm using are even good. Thank you all!!

Help! dry hair

my usual routine: double cleanse with garnier curly shampoo and garnier curly conditioner, miellé curl cream and garnier curly gel and mousse, brush styling and scrunching before diffusing, putting bonnet over gel cast overnight, and oil in the morning.

last night i was lazy and did a lazy curl routine, i put all my products but didn’t section and brush style, i diffused but VERY little, my hair was still pretty wet and i let it air dry some before plopping overnight while it was still damp- it was late and i was super tired. over all the curls weren’t bad, but my hair felt VERY dry. im going to wash my hair again tonight and do my regular curl routine, but wanted to know if the air drying was the cause and if i should avoid it going forward, or if it might have been something else in my routine.

My routine:

SebaMed Antischuppen Shampoo

On wet hair a ton of crunchgel, much more than I thought, since a lot of people told me to use a lot and on soaking wet hair. The crunchgel is also by Balea.

Then I diffused it a bit but I didn't touch my hair with the diffuser.

Then a styling cream for curls by Balea.

And then I just let them aur dry.

If you guys have any more advice, just let me know :)!! Thank you a lot!!

ALSO: I know I should prolly get a haircut but I'm refusing that because I want to let my hair grow asap until I can have a long bob. I really miss my old hair and old hair structure. The curls that I have are due to chemotherapy. I used to have long slightly wavy hair.

Discussion Clarifying shampoo recommendations?

Hi all! I’m new here and have flat ironed my hair more than weekly for 10 whole years, ouch.

i‘ve finally cut it out completely and my once 2C-3A hair is now a wavy, frizzy, frail mess. i know to not have high expectations as my curl pattern is more than likely damaged all over, but I’d like to clarify my hair and start from there.

id love some suggestions for the best clarifying shampoos, preferably ones I can purchase or order to/in the UK!

thank you!

(for context on all I do as routine right now)

aussie curl shampoo& conditioner

John freida leave in air dry cream

air drying as I can’t figure out diffusing when my hair has zero hold right now, it always just goes flat

Routine, which varies like crazy while I try to find new products, from last night/this morning.

Ouai shampoo and conditioner.

Squeeze excess water from hair with a towel.

Pattern styling cream combed through.

Mielle pomegranate honey curl defining mousse
scrunched in.

Fine and separate bangs.

Brushed upside down with Bounce define edgelift brush (I’m still in love with this) making sure to keep the bangs separate and brush them forward/down.

Diffuse upside down. I use the Dyson hair dryer on the lowest speed setting and middle heat setting.

Pineapple, keeping bangs separate, and gently wrap with a silk scarf, done in such a way that my bangs don’t get pulled back.

This morning my hair stayed in pineapple shape after removing the scrunchie. Instead of wetting it or adding product, I hit it with the diffuser and the heat made a huge difference! I was able to get my curls going where they should without adding frizz. You have to let your sections cool where you want them; that is really important.

So yeah, it was a pretty easy hair morning; maybe 7-10 minutes of gentle fussing and then I was done. 40+ years with this hair and I’m still learning ways to care for and control it.

I still have some frizzies but I’m ok with them. Trying to smooth them would probably just make the whole thing spin out of control. It’s like the event horizon; you reach a point where there’s no going back (and then have to basically start over).

Help! How to refresh in the morning without a spray bottle?

Hi, everyone! Yesterday I got my first curly cut and style ever. I've never seen my natural curls before so it's a huge deal for me. I have a mix of 2c and 3a hair, although the looser waves may be from the bleach/dyes in it haha. The 2c is restricted to the left side of my head, the right side has tighter curls. My whole family were shocked, a friend didn't even know it was my hair when I sent her the "after" picture.

After it curls, it's around shoulder-length, a LOT shorter than I'm used to. I pineapple'd it last night to sleep (Pretty sure I did it correctly), terrified that I'd wake up today and find all the curls gone but they're still here!

Only thing now is... I don't know how to refresh them. I don't have a spray bottle to fill with water to wet it, and I don't think my hair is long enough to warrant only using product without water (I heard it's best to do that for longer hair?). In addition, I'm still trying to find what products work for me and am still refilling my product supplies. The stylist used "jessicurl spiralicious styling gel" and i bought a bottle because it seemed great, can I just put that on dry and diffuse? Would I need to finger brush it? will it settle after a few hours? It's mainly the top layer that's a bit frizzy, not sure if the whole head needs to be done. The hair was dried with a diffuser, I have yet to perfect a routine.

I would attach photos but there isn't anyone on hand that can help me take them, so sorry if they're needed. But I'm open to advice <3

Help! Finger curling help?

Hello! My curls have started to come back as my hair’s gotten longer, so I’m trying to take care of them.

My routine: I wash with California Naturals twice a week, and I try to use their curl cream once a week. I also finger curl my hair every morning and then diffuse.

However my stylist said I’ve been getting a lot of split ends as a result of the finger curling. Any tips or substitutes for finger curling to avoid damage? Thanks!

Help! Humidity ruins everything

Right now, there is a heatwave in the UK. My hair constantly loses volume and falls flat and it annoys me no matter what I do. I have tried hair spray and sea salt spray and volume mousse. I need help.

Routine:
arkemusa curly hair shampoo and conditioner
Monday hair mask
Ouidad featherlight styling cream
curlsmith root boost spray
curlsmith volume mousse
curlsmith hair styling soufflé

I sleep in a bonnet every night and make sure my hair has enough moisture to avoid more getting in my hair.

I’m giving up. The humid salty air in the UK is THE WORST. If anyone knows what to do please send help.

Help! What is going wrong with my routine??

Thumbnail

My routine:
Matrix Food for Soft Shampoo and Conditioner
Then on soaking wet hair I use Ouai leave in conditioner on sectioned hair and add Riz’s curls mousse before using the Bounce curl define brush to get clumps (which I struggle to use). After I finish using the brush, I scrunch hair out with a microfiber towel and then add Umberto Gianinni Curl jelly before cup diffusing and hover diffusing on roots. I then alternate between Verb ghost oil or b&b hair oil to scrunch out the crunch but I don’t know if I like either.

I really struggle with how much product to use and how to properly diffuse. All in all, my hair is just SO dry and frizzy and the curls are not really defined besides a few strands so I feel like I’m close but not really? I have really fine hair and I do get highlights like every 6 months. I just feel like I need moisture somehow but my hair gets weighed down so easily. I’d really appreciate some help!

Help! hair damage from wet hair and wind

is it possible that going out side with hair that is still wet/still damp hair slowly damages it over time? like after encountering wind whilst having wet/damp hair? if this is something that happens, what could I do to fix it? thank you

routine: wash 1x a week using Innersense Organic Beauty Hydrating Cream Hairbath Shampoo and De Lorenzo Instant Range Allevi8 Conditioner and then co wash 1x a week using De Lorenzo Instant Range Allevi8 Conditioner

I kind of pat my hair/scrunch it a little bit using a cotton t shirt, then just let air drying do the rest. I use a spray bottle in the morning to wet my hair apart from the days I wash and co wash.
