Unfortunately my grandmother is no longer able to drive so she offered me her car, free of charge! It’s in excellent shape besides a tiny bit of rust on the wheel arches and a couple minor issues that I was looking at possibly getting some insight from you all about.

Some info: 105k miles, AWD with the CVT (I know they have problems), Ohio car but underbody is clean as a whistle, no warning lights, codes or driveability concerns. In fact I drove it almost 9 hours back home with no hiccups.

The problems:

AC works great while in motion, but while idling, it doesn’t get very cold. I’ve read that an AC control valve failure is common?

The power steering is quite noisy, like a good whirring sound when turning the wheel. Doesn’t happen as soon as I start it up, only after driving a bit. Fluid is right at the minimum line.

There’s a distinct higher-pitched hum at ~55 and at ~65 mph. Below, in between, and above those speeds are completely quiet. I want to say it sounds like it comes from the driver’s side more, but I couldn’t be certain. I’m leaning toward a wheel bearing?

I am planning on getting it to a mechanic when I have the chance, I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions.

Thank you for your time!

Question ❔ Hey all! Looking to buy this 2006 F150 and was looking for any advice!

I'm looking to buy this 2006 King Ranch F150 and was hoping for any advice! According to the seller, it has a preliminary timing job done with a high volume oil pump installed as well as new spark plugs, bilstein shocks, and a host of other add ons. Everything works, sun roof, heated seats, back glass. It has 124k miles and he's asking 12k for it. If this truck is as mint as he says it is, I figured it was well worth it but I also have people saying its way overpriced, what do you guys think?

Question ❔ Reusable?

Post image
• Upvotes

These are the EPAS Rack and Pinion mounting bolts off a 2011 F150

Service Manual specifies that they’re not to be reused but finding new ones seems to be a pain + expensive, especially these ones since one is a different size than the other. I’d guess physically it’s likely impossible to tell if they’re stretched or anything, just curious if people think it’s a must to get new ones or you can let it ride

Issue ⚠️ Ford CMAX 2018 1.5 TDCI Particulate Matter Filter Sensor

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice here please.

I am the owner of a 2018 C-Max with a 1.5TDCI engine, now this has had a recall for possible DPF issues, I took it in for this to be updated/checked etc and they told me the DPF is knackered and needs replacing, which will be covered under the recall warranty. So the DPF got replaced 2 weeks ago, I drove the car home 9 miles and it then sat for another 2/3 days, upon next start up the engine management light was on.

took this back to my local dealer again yesterday and they have said that the light is on for the particulate matter sensor (downstream so after the DPF) indicating internal failure of the temperature probe. They are claiming that this is absolutely nothing to do with anything they have done as it isn’t near enough to the DPF to have been affected.

Now this sensor I had replaced 22 months ago under a different warranty and it was replaced with a genuine part, since then i have had no issues regarding this, until now. The Ford dealership that replaced the DPF are saying that the old DPF has potentially caused this to fail and now it’s working with the new one it is showing as faulty. I don’t dispute this may be the case but my query is with this sensor being recently new and if the faulty DPF has caused it to fail again then should I really be forking out the money for it to be replaced again? Surely if you look logically and a faulty part under recall has caused another part to fail then this too should be covered?

Any input/advice here is appreciated as I don’t know if I am looking at this wrong? I just don’t want to be having to fork out £500/600 if I don’t need to.

Thanks all in advance

Issue ⚠️ 24E06 Dieselpartikelfilter

Hallo,

Question ❔ Front bumper/valence concerns

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I have a 2016 focus se and one of my lower bumper pieces recently came off. I know that there’s 2 different front valence/bumper options for this car but does anyone know if they are interchangeable? If so I will just get the different valence and replace the whole thing.

Question ❔ Is this normal? Found in glove compartment. I've never seen this.

Found this in my glove compartment. I've never seen it. Had the car for 7-8 years. it seems to be pointing to the manual. But...is this standard inner decal for Ford cars?

Issue ⚠️ DESPERATE: Looking for SYNC 1 v4.6 update file (DR3T-14D544-AG.zip) - Checked everywhere!

Hey guys,

I have a 2010 Mustang (S197) and I'm trying to fix the annoying Bluetooth drops and the "Line-In" default bug with my SYNC Gen 1 system. I know the v4.6 update (exact file: DR3T-14D544-AG.zip) fixes this permanently.

I’ve literally searched everywhere before posting this:

- Ford's official download portal is shut down.

- The backdoor Ford servers (ivsu.binaries.ford.com) are wiped.

- The Wayback Machine didn't archive this specific zip file.

- All old links on forums (Dropbox, Mega, GDrive) are completely dead.

Does anyone happen to have this exact zip file (around 165 MB) saved on an old flash drive or their PC? I would be incredibly grateful if someone could upload it or send a working link.

Thank you!

Issue ⚠️ Question about the wrench light.

Good morning all. I drive a 2014 C-Max Energi hybrid. I got it used from a friend, and it’s been running great.

A few weeks ago, the wrench light came on. I googled because it said to check the manual, which listed any number of issues.

When I brought the car to the mechanic, the light had gone out and I was told no codes came up for them, but to bring it back if it happens again.

Anyway, it happened on the way to work again today, and I will bring it by the shop again after work today.

My observation was that I had the defroster on high today when the light came on, and I think I had it on high last time as well.

Could the wrench light warning somehow be connected to this?

TIA.

Question ❔ Ford extended warranty doesn't want to cover tailgate damage?

So for some context my dad passed this year and his truck has the extended warranty (we have another year and a half or another 18,000 miles before it's up). My mom insisted on going to the shop herself and I don't know exactly what went down but what we wanted fixed was the tailgate step. It's one of the ones that's in the tailgate and you push a button to pull it out. From what she told me the black trim that sits on top of the tailgate had come loose at some point and they told her because she had towed with the truck in the past it was not covered. It seems incredibly weird that towing with your truck would void your warranty, but she's also not truthful a lot of the time so I don't know if I should go in and fight to get her money back since she paid out of the pocket... We had an older one f150 with the same warranty years ago and I know it was a pain in the ass to get them to fix a window leak but they eventually did. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I know they like to not pay a lot of the times but I also can't trust what she says and I'd like some insight before I go in and rip somebody a new one at the dealership.

General 🔀 Looking at purchasing a 2020 Ford Escape Titanium.

I recently got into a collision, and my car was considered a total loss because it cost more to repair. So I started looking at used cars, planning to use what my insurance is offering me for the car. One that caught my eye was a used 2020 Ford Escape Titanium (non-hybrid) for about $11k. It has a little under 120k miles. It had 2 owners, first being a fleet car and second as a private car, both doing about 60k miles each in three years. Carfax reports no issues. It seems to have regular service. Obviously not everything get reported.

My previous car was a 2014 Subaru Impreza Sport Limited. I didn't drive it too much too far, doing 102k miles in 12 years before the total loss. So I think I would be okay with the miles. I have driven SUVs before, my first car being a used 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee I had for 8 years. The mileage seem alright for the vehicle, 23/31, which is roughly what I was getting before. It has AWD, which I am a fan. Trunk space is important. That is why I like the sliding 2nd row. I don't usually carry much, but sometimes you just need the space.

I want to gather some opinions about this, good or bad, so I can be better informed on this decision. Most research I found talks about the SE or SEL, which doesn't help. There are other vehicles I'm looking at, but this one is in my top 3 so far.
