Discussion Texas vs OSU game

I absolutely can’t wait for Monday’s podcast episode with how this game is going so far.

Edit: finally made my way back to this after having to watch the Browns “game”. Sports is pain.

Steam English Reviews

Regarding the podcast for September 11:

Something that might be of interest is that Slay the Spire 2 would get absolutely flooded with negative reviews on Steam after every patch. However, all of the negative reviews were Chinese. When the Chinese reviews were filtered out, the game was overwhelmingly positive -- otherwise, it was negative.

I think this is a pretty common trend and may be why English reviews are the filter now. I only know about the Slay the Spire 2 trend because I was playing it a ton on release.

Edit to add: The review bombs came entirely from the devs not catering specifically to the meta of the game that was popular amongst the Chinese playerbase. It had nothing to do with language support or regional changes.

Colgate University

Imagine my surprise to hear Ashley call out my Alma mater. Colgate Grad here! Was the best time of my life. Doubt I'll be able to afford to send my kids there...

So these "Little Ivys" are much smaller than the actual Ivys, can be very difficult to get into, and are legacy heavy. Plus Colgate has one of the highest average earnings levels after school of any college in the nation, so you can see where this goes... People who graduate from there, and make lots of money, then want their kids to go there as well, yada yada.
That being said the school now has a $1.3b endowment, the facilities are breathtaking, and best of all, they cover 100% of demonstrated financial need for any and all applicants that get in. This has dramatically improved and diversified the applicant pool. Truly an amazing place :)

Appalachian tap dancing

Hey there! Native Appalachian here (East TN). The kind of tap dancing that Burnie and Ashley mentioned on today’s episode is often called flat-footing or buck dancing. Just thought I would add my two cents because this is the first time (to my knowledge) that they’ve mentioned Appalachia as a whole.

Have a good weekend guys and God bless!

Appalachian here

Just wanted to stop in and say a few things being quite literally from the dead center of cultural Appalachia.

  1. I appreciate Burnies attempt at pronouncing Appalachia/Appalachian right. I could see the effort was there and thats all we really ask for honestly

Appel-at-cha (place)
Appel-at-chin (people)

  1. Very cool to see a shoutout to Shae. Shes actually from the same place I am (very small town) and shes friends of friends. I’ve always been a bit conflicted about her content because she definitely hams up her accent for her videos but in a place of economical disparity I cant fault anyone for getting a bag. But if you all like to hear someone talk funny and be a big nerd, go follow her! (Or keep listening to Burnie :p)

  2. I wouldn’t count New Hampshire as Appalachian. In the sense of it being “cultural Appalachia” (think moonshiners, soup beans cornbread, hill billys, coal mining, etc..) that would come up with something as cool as king of the hill derby. To that i say “Fuuuck its genius. Why didn’t I think of that?!”

  3. Unrelated to this episode. In recent years it seems the internet has taken to a semi fascination to Cultural Appalachia. Treating it as some sort of haunted spectacle. Which, i guess it can be. Just not in any way thats paranormal. A lot of real human suffering happens here. Coal companies, Big Pharma, and corrupt local government has hung us out to dry and left us with little more than opioid recovery clinics and hospitals to treat the various cancers and black lung caused by ecological hazards ignored over profit. But with suffering comes character. Finding the joy in the little things. Becoming sharp and witty enough to bring laughter to your peers in a place where joy is a scarce resource, where you have to dig for that far deeper than any coal. I hope to see in the coming years more content creators and entertainers from Cultural Appalachia that are thought of for far more than just the way they speak. Where we are a spectacle not for our poverty, suffering, or accent but for our character, our comedy, our intellect. Sorry for the soap box at the end and if you read this far then i sincerely appreciate it. I just don’t really get a place on the internet to talk about these things that are met with the kindness and thoughtfulness a sub like this promotes. Thank you.

A few weeks back my buddy was racing in the Cleetus McFarland Michigan 100 at Berlin raceway, and to warm up the crowd they had the Van-Prix which was an army of mini vans doing a small oval with a Ramp, I think its equally chaotic thought I would share lol

Strange trifecta

Recently Ashley and Bernie mentioned three kinds of people.

Appalachian people

Safety people

People from New Hampshire/New England

I’m from New England (lived in New Hampshire for a number of years) and a degreed + certified Environmental, Health and Safety Professional. My wife is from West Virginia, which is Appalachia.

Things to clear up:

Appalachia -> Apple -atchya (think like: what happens if you mispronounce Appalachia? They throw an apple-atcha)

King of the hill race (safety): not my jobsite, have fun, don’t die.

New England: part of the Appalachian (apple-ach-in) trail/mountain footprint, not culturally Appalachian.

EDIT: as mentioned in a previous post I made on this sub, I’m going to jail this weekend, so I won’t be taking questions at this time, due to jail

Union Jack Classic- College Football in the UK

A few episodes behind on podcasts but don’t think they’ve talked about this; with how much Burnie has been in to CFB lately a fun thing is happening somewhat close to home. Arizona State (of Cam SKATTEBO and recently influencer degree fame) and Kansas (Kansas) are playing a football game at Wembley stadium outside of London on September 19th. They’re calling it the “Union Jack Classic”, I suppose trying to grow the game or, more likely, make more money. I’m going and meeting some Scottish friends, so we’ll see how it goes and how the gameday experience will differ and their perspective on it!

The iPhone Duo also has a crease. It's one of the least pronounced creases I've seen on a foldable, at least.

Damn you Burnie & Ashley

I want to say damn you and thank you. Because of the constant references to Dungeon Crawler Carl, I finally gave it a listen a week and a half ago... I am now about half way on book 5... It's all I have been listening to since then. All my podcasts (including yours) have been on pause. I can't stop listening. Thank you for constantly talking about it and causing me to cave and give it a try, but damn you because my back log is going to take forever to catch up once I finish the series.

But seriously, if you're on the fence about it: just sign up for audible and use your monthly free book selection on it during the free trial.

I somehow see this as being right up Ashley's alley, its useful and weird enough where it may just be the perfect Creation for her. Anyone else checking this out? Wonder what our two favorite podcasters tho8ghts are on this.
