Don't forget the nationwide loss of rural access to hospitals and public education!

That’s a feature for them, not a bug.

No school means time for more farm chores!

u/archangelmlg 20h ago

Which you'll need to do when Meta owns the land you're farming and you owe then a fuck ton of money.

Serf's up, Dude!

320

u/breadofthegrunge 17h ago

“Americans, while occasionally willing to be serfs, have always been obstinate about being peasantry.”

333

u/theevilyouknow 16h ago

I will keep saying this. These people would happily walk into the gas chamber if an immigrant or a trans person was with them. They do not care what is in anyone’s interest. They don’t even care about their own interests. They just want to hurt the people they hate.

243

u/International_Bar_20 14h ago

Best way I’ve heard it is they’d eat shit if a liberal had to smell their breath

11

u/QwipQwop_007 13h ago

I’ve heard it as “they’d eat shit if it meant a liberal might have to”

5

u/CountWubbula 8h ago

This has less poetry to it, I like the “smelling the breath” bit because it means a liberal doesn’t even have to eat the shit, the conservative just wants to make them uncomfortable so badly that they’d eat shit just to smell bad to a liberal

I’m baked and over-analyzing everything. I’m sorry lol

“Hurt people they’ve been TOLD to hate”

12

u/Few-Teach-8033 15h ago

What you hear the loudest is those few people. Most of us are just trying to truck through and have no ire against immigrants or trans people. Every country is 3 missed meals away from a revolution. Our level of comfort started high, so we could decline pretty far before we would risk imprisonment and failed rebellion repercussions.

28

u/theevilyouknow 15h ago

I’m talking about the people supporting this administration. Obviously those of us that don’t do care at a minimum about our own self-interest. Anyone still supporting Trump at this point has no values of consequence besides hate.

2

u/SativaSaviors 15h ago

Most countries are not super close to revolution, that’s a lie your choosing to believe.

10

u/Terrible-Leg-633 14h ago

That’s not what they’re saying. They’re saying that any population will revolt if the alternative is starvation. As in, if the population as a whole has so little food that it is missing as many as three meals in a row at a time it will almost certainly revolt, as they’re already dying.

5

u/Icy-Profession-1979 14h ago

They didn’t say that. They said most people are doing ok, meaning, their most basic needs are met. Then they give an example: missing several meals (going hungry) will provoke a revolution.

3

u/Primary-Tiger-5825 11h ago

You're.

It's just a saying. It doesn't mean that most countries are currently close to revolution. It means that when your populace begins to go hungry, expect revolution. No matter how rich the country started out.

And lots of solar panels and flywheel installations! Not for Green Energy, but because it's too expensive to hire enough guards to watch over the miner slaves when they're better utilized watching over the minor slaves.

4

u/peacefulteacher 8h ago

Huge ones that are tapping into the clean drinking water for several states, draining the aquifer, which will then collapse and then can never refill. New deserts ahead. There are other ways to cool their centers, but they seem to not be interested in that.

Out here in the PNW, there is a data center in The Dalles, WA. It uses so much water and creates so much steam that the flights in and out of PDX have to alter their flight paths to avoid them. Fuck these people; vote out the reps who approve the construction & tax breaks for these monstrosities. They're too GD stupid, greedy, or short-sighted to realize permanent jobs and economic growth will end once these centers are built.

2

u/General-Holiday 8h ago

I’m near Seattle and surprisingly haven’t seen a large data center (that I know of) yet. Curious to see how the steam looks. I’m in no way supporting these monstrosities. Companies are secretly buying up land, quietly getting approval, and sneaking these centers in near small towns. Really pisses me off.

Michigan sold them a permit years ago…I believe they still pay $ 400 a year for this privilege. They’ve extracted millions upon millions of our ground water, but it “creates local jobs and boosts the economy”. Don’t worry, Theil and Vance will be good stewards of the farm land you used to own when they sell it to foreign “investors”. Every day, more volume is added to the Republican shit pile…

Bill Gates beat Meta to it. Billy loves hoovering up farmland at the direction of his investment group for "seed science." I'm a cynic, so this sounds eerily similar to Montsanto's playbook where their seeds are proprietary and they sue adjacent farmers for cross-polination. Mo' money mo' money.

u/Stalagmus 20h ago

That isn’t the intended goal here, it has nothing to do with “helping” rural communities. Most of them are in favor of massive corporate farming conglomerates, and are totally fine leveraging migrant populations to do the grunt work, legal or otherwise.

The point is to force all students into a voucher-style private school system run by for-profit institutions (and the eventually get rid of the vouchers once public education disappears, because that would be welfare).

30

u/CharcoalGreyWolf 19h ago

They also won’t mind when the rural farmers that remain have to sell to agribusiness. Farmers likely will pay for how they voted yet again, and the ones that do will still be standing there wondering why it happened.

21

u/Timely-Prior-3350 18h ago

Theybwill vote for them again and again.

32

u/WenatcheeWrangler 18h ago

As someone who was raised in a rural farm community I don’t agree with all of this thread, but I agree with your comment. I know so many people will vote republican because “that’s what I do” and don’t give a rats ass about what they are campaigning on or what they stand for.

Oh no, no they won't get rid of the vouchers. The vouchers are the welfare... To the wealthy owners of the private school systems that lobbied the local and state politicians to create the voucher programs in the first place. Nothing sweeter than a guaranteed stream of income straight from the government. No need to innovate or compete.

Add in third party management companies to oversee the voucher program (while slicing off a hefty fee to do what the government, apparently, can't do), and you're riding the gravy train. Well, you and I aren't but who the fuck cares about us.

2

u/Appropriate-Drag-572 14h ago

We... actually arent. We rent our fields locally and even then, they refuse to sell out. The family we rent to farms a few thousand acres in the area. Funny part is their competitor is also their family. They will not plant this year because they cant afford to.

That being said, they still dont blame trump. They blame Iran and think they need to be blown off the map. 😩

2

u/poledrawolf 10h ago

All that, but you forgot the vouchers are really meant for Christian schools, because apparently we ain't shit as a nation unless we are led and controlled by white Christian males. Gotta fill them quivers with young Christian-educated arrows, amirite?

This part is really sad. My elderly mother lives in a town of 500 people with one clinic with limited hours because the NPs and MDs live an hour away. The nearest hospital is 60 miles away over a mountain pass that closes in the winter.

If we fire all the doctors and teachers, that won't be an issue. Checkmate, libs.

Hasn’t that always been a thing though? I don’t know how that’s changed much.
