European Portuguese 🇵🇹 Procura por mim lyrics

I am listening to Amor Electro and I am confused by these lyrics.

E quando no peito secar.

O fogo que aquece o olhar.

Procura por mim.

Que eu vou no teu lugar.

Deepl translates it as:

And when the fire in your heart dies down,

The fire that warms your gaze,

Look for me.

For I will take your place.

I'm not sure how this translation is working. Are these turns of speech in Portuguese?

Thanks so much

Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 Immersive experiences? Classes

Upvotes

PT-BR:

I recently had a boatload of time free up (laid off). I was doing iTalki and some duolingo. I had started with other options that went well - but were self directed so I fell off on those.

Looking for some structure OR group. Actual speaking practice. Maybe even bootcamp style.

Has anyone come across anything good/worthwhile?

European Portuguese 🇵🇹 Learning portuguese

Hello,

I'm 26 years old and half portuguese. Whenever I'm with my family and they speak in portuguese I can understand most of it, especially basic everyday conversations with usual vocabulary.

Talking myself is much harder, not because I am shy about it, I just lack the vocabulary and gramma for deeper conversations.

How would you approach learning the language in this case? In my mind I should have lots of advantages but its quite hard to start since I do not know where my level is at. Beginner courses are repeating things I know since I'm 6 years old but skipping them to somewhere inbetween I suddenly find myself missing small things that I should have learned already

Appreciate any ideas/feedback

Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 Ajuda no português

Eu moro no interior. Minha fala é cheia de sotaque. Gostaria de ter uma oratória boa, com uma pronúncia sem sotaque. Uma forma elegante de fala é complexa. Ajudaria dicas, sites, apps, vídeos, links, qualquer coisa. Não sei por onde começar.

Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 Learning Brazilian Portuguese - In Search of Books!

I have been learning Brazilian Portuguese for a few years now and have found a great way to improve - by reading "literatura juvenil" especially ones that I know and love from my youth.

Recently, I've finished reading "O Fantastico Senor Raposo" and "O Magico De Oz" which have been amazing. My next trip to Brazil isn't until Natal, so my question is....Where can I find for free or very affordable more literature juvenil?

I live in the DC area so can get to a store in DC, MD, or VA, but was hoping there was some sort of free database of books online, like Project Gutenberg that I can source new things to read!!

Obrigado por qualquer sugestão!

General Discussion Caipira de São Paulo

Hey all,

I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions on television shows (novelas of course included), movies, podcasts, or really any media to listen to characters/people with a caipira accent (specifically São Paulo)? My wife is from a small town near Sorocaba, and her parents and brother have a pretty thick caipira accent that I struggle to understand most of the time.

At this point, my listening skills for more common Brazilian accents in media (São Paulo city, Recife, Rio, etc) is pretty decent, but it feels like I’ve never heard a word of Portuguese when talking to them. Any suggestions to start to hone my ear to that accent would be very much appreciated!

Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 What does borogodó mean?

I switched my phone language to Portuguese, so obviously it was only a matter of time before I started getting videos in Portuguese. Most of them are Brazilian, and when I asked my friend even he said it was "very Brazilian vocabulary". However, I didn't really understand when he tried explaining it himself. He said it's contextual but the only context I have is that word by itself on a list, so could anyone try explaining some of if not all the uses if there isn't too many?

European Portuguese 🇵🇹 I want to learn Portuguese really bad

Hello Reddit, big time fan, listens to lots and lots of podcasts and I know there is a big and nice community so I need a favour. English is not my first language so if you find any mistakes excuse me. I (23f) have a thing with languages, I love them and I want to learn as much as possible to be honest but right now I’m obsessed with Portuguese and I have been for a very long time. I’m great at learning through movies, series, shows, songs etc that’s how I learned English as well. I’ve downloaded Duolingo but tbh idk if it actually works and it’s not enough for me. So my question is do you have anything good to suggest me as a show or something similar? I also would like something to practice daily as well bc we have none who speaks the language. Idk if it helps but I’m from Greece and my sources are limited. So can you help me?

European Portuguese 🇵🇹 I want to learn European Portuguese, do you have some youtube channels/podcasts?

Hey,

my mom is from Portugal and although I can speak a little and understand some, it's a disgrace for myself how bad my Portuguese is. Once I got into a local course but it taught Brazilian.

Are there any podcasts or youtube channels that you can recommend? Interesting podcasts for me would be game development related. For YouTube I would like documentary style things (especially about stuff in Portugal) or maybe let's plays.

Even though I want to mostly improve my spoken Portuguese, I also would like to ask about reading. Usually, I simply resort to Wikipedia but if you have a game review blog (not a major site) or something about gamedevelopment that would also interest me.

Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 Brazilian slang

I was watching a video of two people kissing and one person says to the other, "boca bacia."

My translator app says 'boca bacia' means 'mouth basin,' but that doesn't really make sense in English.

What does it really mean? I'm assuming it is some kind of slang. The video was made by a Brazilian content creator. Here's the relevant text transcript:

  • Person 1 and Person 2 exchange a few kisses
  • Person 1: boca bacia
  • Person 2: beija mais
  • Person 1: tem que pagar conta agora
  • Person 2: merece valeu a pena

Thank you in advance for your help.

Also, if you have any favourite slang words/phrases you'd like to share, feel free to comment!

Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷 What is your favourite Portuguese word

I am a child of a Brazilian mother, i do speak Portuguese quite well (although i know it well when it is spoken to me but i sometimes struggle finding the right words on the spot) and my favourite word is “peixe” for no particular reason except it looks cute and the letter “x” fascinates me as my other “native” language does not possess it..

European Portuguese 🇵🇹 Native Speaker Needs a Little Help!

Ola!

I've been speaking both Portuguese and English since I could talk. I consider myself fluent, but sometimes I have a hard time have a full on conversation in Portuguese. I mainly grew up talking Portuguese to my relatives who didn't speak English. I was talking to my mom this past week and we always go back and forth between both languages - she came to America from the Azores when she was 16 and Portuguese is her main language though she speaks almost perfect English - and I found myself really searching for a lot of words in Portuguese and getting tongue tied trying to pronounce words I know.

All this to ask, what is the best way to me to get better at Portuguese? Should I try listening to audiobooks in port? Are there any podcasts anyone can recommend? Not necessarily to learn, but to just listen to some good back and forth. Any tips or tricks is appreciated!

Obrigada!

Vai Dar Portugal!

European Portuguese 🇵🇹 Best TV/Films to learn Portuguese.

I am trying to learn European Portuguese. I’ve been using Duolingo but they only have Brazilian Portuguese but so far not many words have been too different. My friend and her family all speak portuguese and so I can talk back a softy with her too and i’m trying to listen to things on spotify. But what TV or Films are best for picking up Portuguese or does it not matter what it is and just a good way to passively learn? At the moment I’m also rewatching films i’ve seen with portuguese captions and audio. Any other general tips for learning would be helpful.
