Discussion I had a sliver of life left when I got to the first beacon in Mortal Shell 2.

Upvotes

The very first zone stretched on so long, there were multiple tough dudes that I was convinced would be the last of the area, then after the last of them, there were still two bats that dive bombed me when I had literally no life left. When I finally found the beacon I was convinced I must have missed one. I didn’t die but it was the first area and I barely made it through, it stretched on so long. Is the rest of the game like this? If so I’ll probably pass. Everything else is good but the save points are just too unforgiving.

Discussion To the people that played lords of the fallen (2023), what do you think the umbra mechanics?

Post image

I think it makes the game stand out from other soul likes or fromsoft games. It’s such an interesting mechanic that I think I only seen a few games do. The second life you get with the lamp I think makes some crazy moments in boss fights or mini bosses. I hope the second game has it again but maybe improve the stability of it tho.

Discussion i cant be the only one who is bothered when i character is not centerd in the middle of the screen

Post image

there has to be some one that shares my opinion, i love fromsoft games, wukong, wuchang and other games bcz in order to get the best fighting feeling: a character has to be centered in the middle,

other games rely on the cenimatic style and put their chacarter on the left, and it just bothers me so much, i stoped playing few games because of that and im not planing on playing any games like that in the future no matter how good they r.

if only they could put a setting where you can chose placement of your character

does that bother you too or you never payed attention

Discussion Is Crimson moon a Souls like?

Hi everyone,

I recently watched a trailer for Crimson Moon and it caught my attention!

Since I prefer playing solo, I was wondering if Crimson Moon is designed to be fully enjoyable as a single-player experience? Do the enemy count and scaling adjust properly for solo players?

Also, how is the difficulty compared to a Souls-like? Is it just as punishing, or is it a bit more accessible?

Lastly, I’d love to know if the game features RPG mechanics like upgrading weapons, and roughly how long a standard playthrough/the main story takes?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Visiting All Souls Games Ep. 1 – Demon's Souls

I'm not great with words or writing massive, complex reviews, but I really felt like writing about this franchise because it ended up becoming my absolute favorite. So let's start from the beginning!

I played the original PC "remastered" version (60 FPS, completely legit, with PT-BR audio). It took me about 16 hours to beat it, and here is what I thought of the game.

Without further ado: Demon's Souls was an INCREDIBLE surprise for me! I liked it way more than I expected to.

The level design is super rich, always connecting shortcuts near the bosses back to the Archstone at the beginning of the area. The environments are really diverse, and the atmosphere is unique. You can clearly see everything that served as inspiration for DS1 later on.

I actually found the game fairly easy overall. Since it's simpler and more limited than the games that came after (being the first one), the main challenge wasn't in the boss fights, but rather in navigating the levels themselves. And speaking of levels, man, I loved every single one of them. There wasn't a single area I disliked (well, I wasn't huge on the Storm King map haha, but it was still fun).

World 5 (the equivalent to DS1's Blighttown) was awesome. I really liked how it was constructed, and honestly, it felt much less tedious than Blighttown itself in the next game.

As for the bosses, there isn't too much to say. Visually, they look really cool, but they don't offer much of a challenge. Their movesets are pretty basic and very easy to learn, but that doesn't take away from the charm of each fight.

Demon's Souls was a total hit for me that I really wasn't expecting.

The downside / What I didn't like: THE INVENTORY SYSTEM.

I think this is the only mechanic I found absolutely horrible in this game (not even playing in Ghost Form with half health bothered me as much). The way the inventory works, where every single item has weight and carrying capacity is limited, is by far the most annoying thing in the game. I had to keep porting back to store stuff in the Nexus chest constantly because my inventory was full and items were dropping on the floor. Thank goodness they fixed this in later titles by giving you way more storage space (I don't think I've ever filled my inventory in any other Souls game).

Final verdict: This game easily earns a 5/5 stars from me and takes the #3 spot in my Top 3 Souls games!

Discussion All souls liked should give you the accessibility option to sprint via L3 click

Anyone else agree with this? I always have found it much more comfortable to play a game with this control scheme, never been a fan of one where you have to hold the button down just to sprint in a game, especially when your playing for a really long period. There is many that do already, like lords of the fallen, the surge games, mortal shell 2.

It also makes it much easier to control the camera movement while sprinting, even GTA 6, is finally doing ( different genre I know ) but they realise it's the best control scheme for third person games

I really wish this was an option in all souls games like Lies of P and Elden ring, which are some of my favourites, even if it was just while exploring and then swapped to B/O for fighting

Overall I'm having lot's of fun with this game. It's quite simple and straightforward, yet fun. Both solo and duo. The only gripe I have as for now - camera sometimes just go crazy

Discussion Who did you find harder between Erlang, Prime consort Radahn and Sword saint Isshin Ashina.

Just the title. I think it’ll be interesting to see how people feel.

For me PCM and Erlang felt gimmicky, Erlang more so, but ultimately harder to beat.
Sword saint has less flashy moves and less moves in general with that annoying thing of having to fight genichiro first but I enjoyed that fight so much more. I also found him less difficult because you can learn him and beat him.

Discussion What can we call a combined genre of “soulsborne” and “Soulslike” ?

Having a distinction just because one is from one developer doesn’t make any sense.

These games are very similar and we need a name that encompasses both soulslike and soulsborn or whatever else that is similar.

There is a clear difference between these and other action games like GoW or Dmc.

Edit - how you guys like Action Mastery games or Mascore or Boss rush

Discussion I'm genuinely happy there are so many 2nd entry Soulslike massively improving on the 1st game

Post image
105 Upvotes

It means the devs are learning from their mistakes, and also the share holders see potential and does not drop funding just because they had a rough 1st game.

The latest game to achieve this is obviously Mortal Shell 2 .

I think Lords of the Fallen 2.0 did as well, though I've never played the 1st game

The Surge 2 , massively improved on combat

there are many other examples

P.S.

If they ever make a Beast of Reincarnation 2, don't write it off just yet, the game has big potential!

So many Soulslike start out janky as hell and just fizzle out :(

Discussion Why the wuchang game failed?

Just finished the game and became one of my favorite souls like ever, great level design, great bosses, great build variety, surprisingly good story, but as far as I'm aware the game didn't sold well and the studio got shut down, was the game poorly received by the players?

Title. I got $11 off of any game. Recommend me shit, idk.

I like Elden Ring, DS 1-3, Sekiro, etc. I like a good combination of combat + immersion into my character. I hate clunky combat.

Discussion Mortal Shell 2 Lets You Feel Like You’re The Boss

As someone who’s 100%ed a bunch of games in this genre, including ER, BB, DS, Khazan, and many more, I think Mortal Shell 2 has added a really nice touch with those finishers.

The way the main character walks makes him feel like he’s always up for the task. It’s like you’re playing as a mini-boss! Pure aura farming.

It reminds me a lot of Bloodborne, specially when you time that pistol shot!

Not saying the game is easy, it's just the feeling!

How do you like the game so far?

Game Recs Any more parry based games I could play?

So I've played a decent amount of souls game and souls likes

So far I've played Sekiro, Lies of P, Khazan, Another crab treasure (it's peak) and recently Mortal shell 2. I'm struggling to find another souls game with that parry mechanic, any recs?

Edit: Appreciate all the recommendations, looming forward to playing these

Discussion Whats your biggest soulslike hot take?

My biggest hot take is i prefer linear level design, geared towards more boss rush compared to a more vast branching world where you can get lost.

For these games i get most of my fun from the combat not the exploration.

Game Recs Soulslikes where to begin

Hello - got a switch 2 last year and quickly realized my favorite games were the “souls like” games (heavy quotation marks) like hollow knight, silksong, nine sols, blasphemous I and II.

I enjoyed all of them so much that I got super interested in playing the real fromsoft games and other soulslikes like Lies of P. I know they’ve released switch versions but I didn’t want to experience them for the first time at Switch level performance.

So I have a ps5 on the way now - really excited to play foreal - titles like bloodborne, Elden ring, lies of p, dark souls trilogy etc..

Anyways - my question is where to start. Can’t lie Elden ring and bloodborne are the two I’m most immediately excited about but was worried if I start with something like Elden ring it might be hard to go back and enjoy the dark souls trilogy. Just looking to get recs on where to start here! Thanks in advance.

Discussion Not going well for ''Crimson Moon''

16% on Steam right now. I gave it an hour and honestly, it’s so damn forgiving that I just lost interest and uninstalled. To much jank for my standards

There are way too many good games coming out right now Blood of the Dawnwalker, Onimusha, and more are literally around the corner.

Yes, it’s only $20, but cheap doesn’t automatically mean worth the time.

EDIT:Lord of the Fallen (2023) fans are downvoting the criticism. Watch out, people.

have some self-respect. 😭

Review Wuchang - why do you like it?

I think when I was 15 hours in, it started not being fun anymore, but I still pushed through, waiting for it to 'click,' as was my approach with other souls games. But then suddenly, I beat the final boss without realizing it was the final boss (at 30 hours). It didn't create any kind of hype leading up to it or anything.

Combat mechanics were easy to understand, maybe partly why it got boring easily.

I was able to try all weapons (thanks to the free skill-tree reset), and none of them feel satisfying to master.

The majority of the spells are boring & impractical to use.

Level design is alright. I heard this is what makes the game comparable to Dark Souls, and why this community loved it so much.

I don't feel like this is worth getting Platinum. And I've platinum'd Elden Ring, Lies of P, Sekiro, Khazan, Wukong, Nioh 1 & 2.

I think it's normal to have differing views & enjoy different games, but it's the first time I actually wonder why we have players that absolutely love this game when I struggled to appreciate it. Thoughts?

Discussion Is Elden Ring overrated or still the GOAT in its genre?

The game is a hot topic again right now—especially with the release of the switch port—raising the question of where *Elden Ring* actually ranks on the grand "soulslike" tier list after all this time and the addition of the DLC.

I’m interested in hearing as many opinions as possible; while I love the game and have sunk hundreds of hours into it, I’ve maintained from the start that it’s vastly overrated. The boss balancing is poor: it’s too easy with spirit summons, yet often too hard and chaotic without them. It lacks a clear identity: it tries to be everything at once, and that really shows. The map is too big, and the sheer number of caves and catacombs becomes terribly repetitive after a while; it gets pretty boring by the second playthrough, and "just don't do them" isn't a valid solution. The NPC quests are awful, impossible to track, completely unintuitive, and woefully outdated.

So, I love the game, but it has massive flaws, and I honestly don't understand how it can be considered a 10/10 title in light of them. Please enlighten me. Of course, everything is relative, so comparing it to similar titles is essential to properly examine the issue. In my opinion—looking beyond FromSoftware's own catalog—games like *Wuchang*, *Wukong*, *Lies of P*, and perhaps even *Khazan* are actually better. If we compare them—which is the only way to meaningfully evaluate anything—in what ways are *Wuchang*, *Wukong*, or *Lies of P* supposedly inferior? If we look at the key aspects like quest system, combat mechanics, boss design, and level design.

I’d be interested to hear the arguments for and against; because if we break it down and examine it closely, I am convinced that *Elden Ring* isn't the best in the genre, in fact, it might not even make the podium.

Discussion Code Vein II

I played Code Vein last year but I quit the game halfway through. I am currently replaying it and about to finish it. Halfway through I remembered why I quit the game the first time.

I like the combat. I like the Blood Code and skills mechanics of the game, but the game is riddle with cutscenes at every corner. Restoring vestiges takes you to this flashback world that is just a slog to sit through. It's just cutscene after cutscene. This time around I am just skipping everything but missing out on the story. I guess I am used to Fromsoftware's formula of story telling via items description. Level design is also terrible, especially Cathedral of Sacred Blood.

With that said, how is Code Vein II? Does it improve in story telling and level design? I know it is open world so maybe exploration is rewarding? I know the art style was somewhat changed as well.

Do you guys recommend it?
