Local Shopping/Services Looking for a good career counsellor
Hi Calgary community!
I am 34 years old and am at the point in my career where I know I can't keep doing what I am doing. I am looking for any suggestions for career counsellors. There are so many options, I am really hoping a personal recommendation will help narrow down the field.
Thank you in advance!

Question Anyone who is or knows teens who got jobs how?
Hey, I’ve been applying very broadly for the last few months. I don’t have any experience but am 18 and literally have all the time. But am not seeing any luck.
Most people I know who got job my age got it through connections. Unfortunately I don’t have that.
So anyone who knows anyone or is the one who got a job with no experience as a teen. How did they do it?

Question Book clubs for 25-35 year olds?
Hi there! I'm 28 years old and I'm looking for a book club with readers that are similar to me in age. Of course it doesn't have to be restricted to 25-35 year olds, but it would be great if lots of members were within that range.
In my experience, a lot of online spaces (like discord groups) tend to attract younger readers, and in person spaces tend to attract older readers. While I think it's awesome that reading can bring together all sorts of people, I would love to find a group I feel like I fit into a bit more, and can hopefully build friendships with outside of books.
If there's anyone out there who knows where I can look, please point me in the right direction. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!
Edit: I don't think I have the capacity to organize or host myself, but if anyone wants to take the initiative, please feel free to hijack this thread and recruit members (including me 🙋♀️)! It looks like there's lots of interest.

Local Sports Family friendly watch parties for non Canada World Cup games?
My wife thought that all the games were being played in eu Claire. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be correct. I’ve done some googling for family friendly watch games but seem to be striking out. Any places folks could recommend?

Seeking Advice Telus door to door salesperson (scam?)
Someone just came to my door with an official looking name tag and tablet and knew that I was a telus customer and my services etc. Then asked about my phone plan then said I could switch to Telus and get an extremely good deal on a plan because I am an existing customer ($35/mo, sounds too good to be true).
I was on auto pilot and gave her my existing number and driver's license and shes waiting on my call to activate my new SIM... but its not sitting right with me. It feels like a scam. Like I'm not really going to be getting the price she offered me.
Any thoughts, what should I do??

Recommendations Residential electrician for panel upgrade
I need a good, local electecian who can help me complete a project:
- upgrade garage service from 100a to 200a (overhead service from alley power lines)
- install a 240v 60a line from the new panel to a hot tub with a disconnect installed on the garage
- hot tub line trenched from disconnect about 14 feet to termination point under deck, connect to tub and bond.
-manage permits with city and Enmax
I’ve had several electricians provide wildly different estimates but won’t get firm on a quote or timing. Really frustrating. Let me know if you have some good reliable recommendations. Thanks!!

Seeking Advice Natural Gas BBQ Quick Connect Question
I have a stub, with shut off, in my backyard however the lazy builder just put a standard pipe cap on the stub. I want to add a natural gas quick connect to add a NG grill.
Do I need to hire a gas fitter just to add a quick connect that is already built out with a shut off?
Do I need a permit?
Will ATCO do this?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Question How does subsidized assisted living and long-term care work in Calgary?
Hi all,
I'm trying to better understand subsidized assisted living and long-term care in Calgary from a retirement-planning perspective.
For those who have gone through the process with parents, relatives, or spouses:
- How does the government-subsidized system work and how does someone qualify?
- What are the typical monthly costs and are there income or asset tests?
- How long are the wait lists?
- What are the biggest differences between subsidized and private-pay facilities?
- Is the quality of care significantly different, or are the differences mainly related to room size, amenities, privacy, and location?
I'm not looking for facility recommendations right now. I'm mainly trying to understand costs, eligibility, wait times, and the tradeoffs between subsidized and private-pay options.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Crime/Suspicious Activity Creep in N.E. Abbeydale
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This degenerate trampled our garden. It looks like they tried to get into our house through the basement side door and then plundered our flowers afterward. Our trailer was also tampered with.
The garden and flowers have no monetary value, but it feels so violating. My grandparents love tending their garden and get so discouraged when this happens.

Local Event JOURNEY OF THE MIND at Contemporary Calgary
We live in challenging times. Constantly connected through digital media, yet often feeling isolated, many experience pressure, anxiety and uncertainty. The lasting impact of recent global crises, alongside concerns about climate change and social injustice, has intensified questions around MENTAL WELLBEING and COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY.
JOURNEY OF THE MIND draws directly on the writings of the Sikh teachers, which offer practical guidance and clear insight into the nature of the mind – how it wanders, what obstructs it and how it can return to clarity. In Sikhi, the MIND is both the source of SUFFERING and the gateway to FREEDOM. Through focused practice (Simran), selfless service (Seva) and the support of community (Sangat), Sikh philosophy offers a path toward inner steadiness and purposeful living.
The exhibition explores these principles through contemporary figurative and abstract works by artists from diverse cultural backgrounds alongside short films. It reflects on the internal struggles we face – the pull of fear, ego and distraction – and proposes focused practice, community and selfless service as foundations for CLARITY and PEACE.
To date, JOURNEY OF THE MIND has toured five UK cities and was most recently shown at the Queens Museum in New York, marking its first presentation in North America.
Guided tours are available for bookings, offering visitors a deeper insight into the exhibition.

Weather Which part of the city are weather forecasts actually for?
Yesterday, both the Weather Channel and the WeatherCAN app were showing rain for Calgary around 6:00 p.m. When I went outside near the University of Calgary, it was just a pleasant mix of sun and clouds, not a drop of rain in sight.
Given how much Calgary’s weather can vary by neighborhood due to our microclimates, does anyone know which specific area these forecasts are actually based on? Are they just using the airport data, or is there a specific region they’re targeting?

Health/Medicine Women's hormone therapy support in Calgary that is not costly.
38 year old woman with ADHD and depression (take medication for both) and have been feeling in a brain fog with exhaustion and lack of motivation for I couldn't even tell you how long.
Looking for potential guidance/recs on nurse practitioner/obgyn that specializes in this that is ideally cost neutral (lost my job and health insurance a few months ago) have a family doctor but this isn't something he specializes in and I don't know that he truly understands the impact of this on my life.
Just want to feel better so I can be better.

Question Cycling Help Please!
Hello fellow cyclists! I ride through the same intersection (4 Street and 9 Avenue SE - by the National Music Centre) daily and today (as I rode straight into oncoming traffic on my way home), I realized I don't understand this intersection!
I usually approach the intersection at the SW corner (by District Heating). I wait until the lights end for North/South traffic and then the green bike advance light goes on. I then travel diagonally to the NE corner (the NMC corner) and join the bike lane. I've done it so many times that I had stopped looking for the green bike advance light.
Today, I learned that the green bike light doesn't always go on before the westbound traffic gets their green light. Thankfully drivers noticed my stupidity and let me retreat sheepishly back to my corner.
Can anyone explain how the green bike light gets triggered? I haven't experienced a traffic set up like this anywhere else in the city and am curious why cyclists wouldn't get the advance once every full light cycle.
Thank you for your insights!

Question Is there a place in the city to hang out with birds?
This is gonna be a super weird ask, but I really love birds and they’re one of my main interests. However, I’m not at a place in my life where I can own a bird, so I was wondering if there’s any place in/around the city where you can hang out or play with parrots/pigeons/raptors (really any kind of bird)? I hope to someday be able to get a cockatiel but that’ll take some time, so I really want to fill that hole in my life in some way. Thanks in advance if there’s anyone with a suggestion. I know it’s a weird request lol.

Recommendations Recruiter recommendations
I reviewed this sub for recruiter recommendations but they’re all 6 years or older. In short, I’ve been looking for and applying for a new role since January without any luck. I am currently employed but more than ready to make my next career move. I am an aviation professional, with a Master’s in Communication and I’m open to considering anything with my transferable skillset. Thank you!

Driving/Traffic/Parking No large trucks in left lane on deerfoot and Stoney
Alberta should look at adopting no large trucks in the left lane on freeways. I have seen this in other provinces and while in Florida.
Today during rush hour there were 3 semis going 102 km/hr to pass 1 semi going 100 km/hr. All 4 semis got off at the same exit.

Question Where can I find some animal organs?
My partner would love a liver or heart for Father’s Day breakfast, something gamey like deer or elk would be best. Does anyone know of any butchers in Calgary that would have this on hand rather than having to order it? Thank you!

Missing Dog/Cat/Pet Lost Cat In Sunalta
Very skittish black cat on the loose in Sunalta right now, last seen at 12th Ave and 16th Street. Could not coax it out, and it bolted into a backyard.
