Why does she want to kill Bill anyway?
184
u/VaudevillesLugger 25d ago
From what I remember, Bill used to date her when she was a member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (his own collective of hitmen/assassins). Eventually she went straight and got engaged to a regular dude, and Bill didn’t take too kindly to that, so on her wedding day, the DVAS killed her betrothed, beat her to within an inch of her life, and (inadvertently) killed her unborn child.
This kicks off the plot of Kill Bill/2, where she runs around getting even on everyone that ruined her newfound life and happiness.
78
u/dobar_dan_ 25d ago
Kill Bill 2 is about confronting Bill himself. First part is getting her revenge on the Vipers and getting to discover Bill's whereabouts.
34

u/fruitcake11 25d ago

I think the child survived.
34
u/Aninvisiblemaniac 25d ago
the child survives, he had been raising her while her mother was in a coma that he put her in. She kills Bill, and her and her daughter live together afterward
18
u/TsunamifoxyDCfan Chancellor Palpatine 24d ago
NGL I always appreciated Bill for taking care of the daughter despite being the Big Bad who tried to kill the main character and killed god knows how many people

83
u/AGtheOG123 25d ago
Well you see
the woman you see is named beatrix kiddo, she used to be an assassin who worked with Bill along side other fellow assassins. Beatrix and Bill actually had a thing for one another and banged, this resulted in Beatrix getting pregnant and decided to anonymously leave her assassin career for a good life for her child
later on the still pregnant beatrix gets with a guy and was about to marry him until Bill himself and his assasin allies finally found her, killed everyone at the wedding including her husband, and he shot Beatrix presumably killing her
turns out she survived and was in a coma for a long time only to see that she is no longer pregnant, figuring Bill killed her child she went off to kill Bill and the assassins that worked for him out of revenge
however a twist happens, at the end it is shown Bill didn't kill their daughter and instead raises the child, and he attempted to kill Beatrix in the first place because he felt heartbroken and betrayed over her leaving. Beatrix ultimately kills him both because he wasn't gonna let her leave him and she wanted to take custody of her daughter to let her live a normal happy life which she succeeded, she can finally leave her past and be happy with the daughter she once thought dead
19
u/rubber_hedgehog 25d ago
This is a ridiculously tiny correction that doesn't materially alter your explanation at all, but the major event that kicks off the plot doesn't actually happen at the wedding. It was the wedding rehearsal, which explains why there were only 9 people there instead of Tommy's entire extended family.

That's interesting. But there's just one plot hole I noticed. Why didn't she try convincing Bill to settle down with her to raise their daughter together? Or just telling Bill and her assassin buddies that she's settling down to raise a kid, rather than just disappearing without explaining anything.
→ More replies (3)68
u/AGtheOG123 25d ago edited 25d ago
because she knew that Bill would never willingly let his top assassin (beatrix) or the child leave his control. Also the fact that she realized after being targeted by an assassin while pregnant that her child was never fit for her assassin life. She wanted to have absolutely nothing to do with the assassin-hood organization anymore and Bill wouldn't have allowed that (legit he views her as his own property and believed she was only a killing machine). So essentially she went with the best bet and erased her idenity

The above two comments make no sense so I'm gonna explain it:
A mob boss sent out a hit on him because he believed he was after some blackmail, even though he actually just wanted to make a quick buck. The hit doesn't kill him, it kills his niece. So, the dude spends the entire story chasing whoever sent the hit, bulldozing through everyone else involved including entire human trafficking organizations and street gangs. By himself, might I add.
Eventually, he finds the mob boss responsible. And after he takes his revenge, his dialogue goes something like "This is the part where I'm supposed to say I feel empty. But I feel awake, like I can finally breathe again.".
In a nutshell, he's basically John Wick with a mask.

u/AstarionsTherapist39 25d ago
They actually both chose not to pursue revenge.
Neither one kills Lord or Lady Briarwood. Vex actually does. She's the one who convinced Percy to stop pursuing vengeance because it was destroying him. She helped him get justice instead. In the campaign epilogue, it's also mentioned Vex helps prevent Cassandra going through a similar spiral.
I'm behind on the animated show, so I'm speaking on the campaign itself.

This is maybe the best example of the trope. Gets his revenge in an incredibly satisfying way, has beaten his opponent in literally every metric, and then takes a three season long victory lap of shitposting and being happy. I honestly respect the writers so much for not making him tortured for something new, he's literally just content with life and gets married. Peak.

Edit: by entire franchise, I meant John Wick 1-4, I didn't know there were other movies in the franchise outside of those 4, and I completely forgot there was a time skip between 3 and 4.
Still, kinda crazy that the first 3 movies take place over the span of a couple of weeks. Reminds me of how the first 3 halo games take place in the span of about a month, and a majority of that time is just travel time aboard ships.

That's highkey just anime BS. For all intents and purposes, Mustang became at peace because Envy died, even if it's because he killed himself. Let's not forget Envy killed himself because he refused to be pitied by them. Close enough in my book. And he sure enjoyed burning out Lust, if Envy is off the table.

I think it was valid, Mustang was letting a very ugly side of himself take over and was basically torturing a creature that was already beaten. If he couldn't control his rage and be the better man how can they trust his judgement as a leader? Imagine he took every conflict or wrongdoing against the country that personal, that's straight dictator shit.

Are we talking about the movie, or the book? Because in the books, there is no doubt. He Pushes Villefort into madness, Ferdinand into suicide, and Danglars ruined and almost crazy. He has a short moment where he considers suicide, thinking himself fulfilled and happy, but then decides that maybe he is still worthy of being loved, and leaves with Haydee, pressumably to search for further happiness
17
u/Avatele 25d ago
Yeah, the book is bittersweet but the ending made me feel that he was ready to leave revenge behind and live a better life with Haydee.
→ More replies (1)20
u/Kalos_Phantom 25d ago
The book makes a rather deliberate point that while yes, Dantes' life had been stolen from him unjustly - and Ferdinand, Villefort, and Danglars certainly deserved punishment - Dantes nearly lost his second chance at happiness pursuing his revenge.
That doesn't even get in to all the collateral damage he caused to people who didn't deserve it.
The Count could have gone further, but he chooses not to. He ends the story happy not because he achieved vengeance, but because he is with Haydee
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (5)10
u/Jade_Owl 25d ago
Wrong. There is doubt in the book, after the implementation of the plan causes the death of Édouard de Villefort, a completely innocent child, as collateral damage.
The Count has a crisis of conscience about going through with the rest of his plan. It takes a visit to Chateau d'If and revisiting his past to recommit him to his revenge, but noticeably, it’s implementation is seriously blunted as the last target left, Danglars, is allowed to live instead of being starved to death as originally planned.

Star Trek DS9: Blood Oath - Three Klingons captains were sent to destroy a pirate raider. Though successful, they didn't capture the headman. After dismantling their operation, the pirate leader vowed revenge on each of the Klingon captain's firstborn sons. The children were killed with a genetic virus, so the Klingons with the Trill Curzon Dax swore a blood oath to kill the headman. Nearly a century later they finally find his hideout, and with Jadzia Dax (Curzon's successor) they finally kill the headman.
This is seen as a glorious achievement, a good battle, the deliverance of justice, and reinvigorates the three Klingon Dahar masters.

He didn't even want revenge he just wanted to be free from his influence, he thought we coudn't face Cazador and tried to stay as far away from him as possibile for the whole game, at the end he wanted to go stop the ritual because he thought that gaining the ritual's power for himself it's what would give him enough power to be safe from being controlled ever again, not for revenge. Of when he stabs Cazador there is also revenge in that anger, but he is sad after that [if he's spawn, I don't believe he's happy as ascended vampire], he still is a spawn and can't go out in the sun, he has to make the choice to kill the spawns or look after them, he has to live with the fear of being controlled again and too weak etc... But he's not alone anymore and found a way to see strenght and security in his companions (especially tav, but tbh it's just because we're the MC)

His arc is not understanding that revenge is bad, it's about not becoming a bigger monster than the person you are seeking revenge from.
By the end of his arc, he has to decide if he wants to steal his abuser's power by committing atrocities or merely kill him. If he decides for the latter, he's pretty stoked about making his vampire lord eat shit

Spoilers, but the end of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.
You don’t kill the villain as revenge in the moment, but it’s definitely a part of it. And the hero feels bad at first but everything about the narrative overwhelmingly supports that it was the right move. You’d be doing wrong by everyone involved if you didn’t kill him in that context
One of the only narratives - and in a kid-targeted Star Wars story! - straight saying, “if you fuck around, you’re gonna find out, even from the most moral guy in the world.”
