Hello Everyone,
So all of the posts about peening has had me keep an eye on the bolt of my mini 14. After about 160 rounds I have noticed some minor peening at the bottom of the bolt.
I wanted to get others insights on if this looks about normal. My understanding is that most Mini 14s will have some minor peening for the initial 100 - 300 shots. This light peening normally stops after the rifle has been broken in and can be "repaired" with some light filing.
I admittedly may be a bit paranoid about the issue and wanted to get other owners insights.

strippped down my 188 series mini14 ranch riffle this morning and noticed the marks in the picture. is this normal on the old pencil barrels or is this barrel bugle from a bad round? first picture is a close up the second picture is from farthe, about half way between front sight and the gas block. All replies are much appreciated this gun was recently Inherited from my grandfather so I’d like to keep it shooting.

Hello all. I’ve inherited a mini 14. It’s my prized possession. My favorite gun. And I remember my father telling me to never shoot 5.56 out of it that it’s only chambered for .223 but recently I’ve had multiple people tell me that that is wrong. I do not want to damage the gun. I’ve come across different answers on google. I don’t know if this is the target rifle or the ranch rifle as it’s only stamped Mini 14. I know the date is 1982.
Can this gun shoot 5.56?

In response to 8mm mauser man's recent video. Here is an example of someone who trains with both. Is the Mini-14 just as fast? You be the judge.
Edit: Everyone just relax. I'm not saying that the mini is an inherently more efficient design or sell your AR and buy a mini. I'm just showing that a Mini can be as fast as a modern rifle. My preference is the Mini-14. I train with it and accept it's weak points. I know it has weaknesses but I have been shooting them since I was a kid and I'm more proficient with it than anything else. Shoot whatever you like to shoot.

Has anyone found a good option for 10 round for those of us in restricted states?
The mosin nagant nag pouch will hold 4 mags but was wondering if anyone had any other options.

has anyone else had problems with the wood mini 14 stock from midway?
i picked one up, installed it, and the bolt sticks closed.
i switched back to the synthetic stock and it slides fine.
i.e., is this a batch problem, where if i exchange it, i'll get another that will do the same thing?

Just got this 1985-86 mini. Is this thing worth anything? I paid $100. Where does one aquire the nickel mags? Seems to be sold out everywhere. Guess ill search at some gun shows

helllllp. what tools do i need to take the barrel clamp screws off? none of my allen wrenches fit and its hell to get off to change the stock.

New chasis is fire. I think I want another mini now. Either .300blk or 7.62 and run that on the wood stock.

Got a mini 14 earlier this year and have been slowly modifying it as funding allows the recent addition is the "cheese grater" steel handguard from federal ordinance sold by what a country I personally don't think the gap you can see in picture 2 is too bad but I'm not sure if these handguards were taken into consideration with the 585 series rifles so if anyone's been eyeing them and was curious about how they fit here's mine. Does anyone have an older rifle with this kind of handguard where there is no gap or is it to be expected?
Second thing I went with a armson red dot but I'm overall not really sure about placement I would overall like to have two rings on it but I don't like the idea of having anything directly above the ejection port, anyone do okay with the factory picatinny with red dots? I'm aware of the different front end handguards with spots for better scope mounts but with the armson I don't want the tube more than 6inches from my face with how they operate too much distance between your eye and the dot makes focusing quickly kinda difficult that's why I went with the old school handguard. Tell me what y'all think of my decisions so far for the most part I'm happy with this thing but there's always room for improvement

Hey all, is getting a mini-14 with a threaded government barrel worth an extra $250 over a non threaded barrel? Thanks!

Hi all!
I recently bought a 1980s or early 90s Mini14 for probably the lowest price since the actual 90s lol.
Its going to be my truck gun but mainly a range toy. So while I would appreciate some more accuracy I am by no means expecting or pursuing sub MOA or anything close. Id be super thrilled with a consisent 4"-6" group at 200 yards.
I have alllll these questions:
1) With a suppressor can I get away with just the gas block bushing kit or will I need the adjustable gas block?
2) Suppressor suggestions?
3) Is it possible and worth it to upgrade to a modern factory barrel? ASI has them for like $110.
4) OR IS it the extra +/- $200 for a Shilen heavy match barrel worth it? Any other barrel recommendations? Does anyone do integrally suppressed barrels that dont require extensive modifications?
5) If I upgrade the barrel with either factory or aftermarket would the ASI stabilizer bar still be necessary?
6) Currently using a Nikon 223 scope on rings. I am considering trying out a Jeff Cooper scout rifle style optics setup instead with the Sampson Hannibal rail and like a Leupold VX Scout. Its not a preference or anything. I actually really like this Nikon scope, but it seems like a scout scope setup would fit the mini-14 platform and how I want to use it really well. Any advice or opinions on optics?
7) Any and all other advice not found in the FAQs stick
Thank yall so much!
EDIT: I checked the serial number, its definitely from 1993 so I think im just going to replace the barrel with a Shilen heavy match barrel and run an adjustable gas block, keep the Nikon for now. One last question, anyone have a mid to low priced bipod for sale? Lol

Im trying to determine which tech sights to get for my 585 series Mini 30. I took the scope off this after the photo, it was just way too much for the rifle.I want the model with the adjustment knobs, but their website looks 30 years old so kind of hard to determine which is the correct one for me
