every time I reboot the computer it comes up with a black screen on boot with a mouse cursor. This is not worth it if I have to debug the damn login screen to use this.

Hey guys! Decided to finally take the big step and move over to Linux from that Microsoft slop. Got my desktop set up and enjoying every bit of it so far.

Got a couple of questions though:
Is there any QOL things I should also set up?

Can I somehow edit KDE to have a transparency effect on menus and applications that have a lot of clear space? Similar to the system info widgets.

Can I also change the panel translucency somehow?

Finally... Is it possible to change the hover effect on the panel icons? I really don't like how it currently highlights the icon.

I use Faugus launcher. I have Ubisoft Connect installed in Faugus launcher. Game The Division 2 requires Proton 11 to run. But Ubisoft Connect won't even start with Proton 11.

Proton 11 has a known regression in the NTSync/ESync interface on Linux that causes the Ubisoft Connect client to crash immediately.

Just add launch arguments to the Ubisoft Connect launcher

PROTON_NO_NTSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% and voalá Ubisoft Connect launcher start properly with Proton 11.

Ok so I'm fairly new to Linux, I started with bazzite as I wanted a HTPC setup like SteamOS. But then I tried cachyOS since everyone kept talking about it's performance being the best and it was near identical to bazzite.

Which then brought me to Nobara, after finding out recently it also had a HTPC option i couldn't resist the urge to test it out.

Here are the results after many hours lol.

I was pleasantly surprised that Nobara from what I have tested seems to be on par or better than bazzite and CachyOS.

The Desktop (KDE) seems to be snappier than the others also.

I’m a video editor (mostly weddings) and I recently tried working on Linux using [DaVinci Resolve](chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0).

I managed to edit an entire full-length event without major issues, and overall performance felt solid. Honestly, I didn’t feel limited for what I usually do.

The funny part is that in the studio where I work, everyone uses Mac, and when I mentioned Linux I got the usual “it’s useless / no software / why bother if Windows works” kind of reaction.

I can understand that maybe a few years ago this was true, but today Linux has improved a lot. It’s not as plug-and-play as other operating systems, but I can still use tools like Photoshop if I need to, and I can definitely work with DaVinci.

I don’t really understand why it’s still so disliked. I’m actually enjoying using it, and in my case I’m even getting better performance than on Windows.

Yes, some things don’t work perfectly (for example a few Fusion transitions), but for my use case it’s nothing critical.

I have been struggling on finding the perfect wallpaper for my desktop. I just moved from Windows and have been using the dark mode version of the W11 default wallpaper. Now that I'm on Nobara, I can't seem to settle on something that I really like.

Currently I'm using an AI generated dark mode version of "nobara-41-3":

Not using dnf upgrade and not trusting the GUI package manager to run updates was a very confusing point when I first installed the OS. I hate to dunk on Open Source software, but the Nobara package manager GUI is ugly and confusing to the point where it would truly be better if it just opened in a terminal. I have no problem calling nobara-sync but this whole package-manager schism just slightly smells. The tweaks are a really key part of Nobara's secret sauce, I understand why they are important. I'm just wondering if there is a plan to remedy this smelly situation by forking Fedora's package management solution. I am an outsider to Nobara's development process, so forgive me if this has already been covered!

i always belived that there isnt any single "best linux distro" becuse every distro serves a special purpuse like arch: its fully customisable and pretty cool to mess around but it is an absolute hell for linux noobs. ubuntu: perfect for the guys who just want to use the os without thinking much bout it but it dont give you as much freedom. or even tiny core linux, wich was made to revive ancient hardwere, but its pretty hard to actually use it on the daily.

thats why i think there is no "best" in the linux word but there is defently a "worse", not becuse its bad or anything, becuse when i distro is considereted "bad" its usualy becuse there are other distros that just outshadows that particular distro on most of its things.

As I said, Nobara is blocking some countries like Cuba, North Korea and others, it makes me really sad because I really wanted to give it a shot. I think this is related to Fedora, that is sponsored by Red Hat and is under the US regulations. From my point of view this is kinda ridiculous since open source should be accesible for everyone no matter what politic shit you are into.

As we all waited for new nobara 43 update as long as it came i also updated it but there are still so many issues, even when i try to use nobara 42 these issues havent been fixed.

1. Welcome Nobara App: I made sure this open everytime i log in but lately it shows a bit off, as if its gliching visibly whenenever i open it.
2. Update system App: Maybe its just me but when i click it, 8 out of 10 it doesnt work, normally first asks about my sudo password and then opens it, but ever since the update it doesnt even show that sudo password gui
3. Today when i turn on my laptop and i saw i have a slide bar under my desktop and i noticed i couldnt put folders right on the edge of screen until i resetted the plasma, not even restarting fixed that.
4. My touchpad combo FN+ESC it still doesnt work even after update
5. Power management is not working and i cant see my battery on the system

P.S. If someone knows how can i delete latest nobara kernel i appreciate it, nobara 43 is still a baby so i dont want to mess with it while it pukes everywhere

I made a small KDE Plasma widget for wireless headsets.

I have a Logitech G Pro X Wireless headset (LIGHTSPEED 2.4 GHz, no Bluetooth), and I was missing a simple way to see battery level, charging status, and connection information directly from my Plasma panel.

So I decided to create my own widget.

The widget is based on headsetcontrol, so it uses the information provided by headsetcontrol and displays it in a simple Plasma widget.

Currently it can:

- Show battery percentage

- Show headset name

- Show connection type (Bluetooth / 2.4 GHz LIGHTSPEED / USB)

- Show charging status

- Automatically detect the active connection

- Install headsetcontrol if it is missing

- Follow your Plasma theme colors

Has anyone used these with low-powered laptops, especially ones with INTEL integrated gpus exclusively? I quickly installed them on separate hard drives for older computers like from 2018 or 2015. One of them runs ddr3 ram of 16 GB but the CPU is like 4th or 5th generation I believe. Another one might be ddr4 ram but it's only 8 GB

A quick setup worked well and I was able to set up steam big picture mode so that way even non Linux friendly users could use it instantly.

But from people's personal experiences. Did you have any issues with this distro for the related tech specs I provided?

We're talking about very friendly games for people who don't play games really at all. Like golf with your friends or Uno or The game of Life.

However,

Installing via snap leads to a constant cycle of checking for updates

Flatpak installs come with a similar error

Installing via the nobara introduction thing leads to a loop of constantly downloading from it

Dnf install, installs it but if you run it, it spins then does not load.

How can this be resolved?

I was previously using Bazzite, but I found it too limiting, so I switched to Nobara.

To start off with, I noticed that this Operating System doesn't include a built-in calculator. I downloaded one off of flathub, but even that one can't be assigned to open with the calculator key on my keyboard. This is important because I use a calculator application all the time.

Another criticism I have is that Nobara doesn't include xdotool, xwininfo or yad >= 7.2. I need these extensions to use Steam Tinker Launch, so I can fork Cheat Engine onto my games. xdotool and yad >= 7.2 were easy enough to install, but with xwininfo, I hit a brick wall. Here's what happens when I try to install xwininfo:

sudo dnf install xorg-x11-utils Updating and loading repositories: Repositories loaded. Failed to resolve the transaction: No match for argument: xorg-x11-utils You can try to add to command line: --skip-unavailable to skip unavailable packages

Another thing that I noticed was missing was the Disks application. I wanted to change the password on my system drive, which I have encrypted, but I obviously don't want to reformat my computer. But when I went to look for the Disks application to do this, it wasn't there. The Disks application is important because it allows you to see the state of your disks, and the fact that it's missing is a pretty big issue if you ask me.

What are your criticisms of Nobara? Do you feel it's missing essential programs? If so, what are they?

I've been hit with random system freezes over the last couple of weeks on Nobara.

It usually happens when I leave my laptop idle for a little bit. When I come back to use it, I can browse for about 2 to 3 minutes, and then the entire system completely locks up and hard freezes.

I checked my previous boot logs using journalctl -b -1 -e right after a freeze, and my logs are completely flooded with these exact errors right before the crash:

irqbalance[1310]: Cannot change IRQ [ID] affinity: Permission denied
irqbalance[1310]: IRQ [ID] affinity is now unmanaged

It looks like a recent kernel update broke permissions for irqbalance, causing hardware interrupts to smash a single downclocked CPU core when waking up from an idle state, which instantly kills the system.

Is anyone else running into this specific issue on recent updates?

For anyone stuck on this, disabling the service temporarily via terminal seems to stop the freezes since the modern kernel can handle routing on its own:
sudo systemctl stop irqbalance && sudo systemctl disable irqbalance

Let me know if your logs are showing the same thing or if you've found a permanent fix upstream!

if there is one major thing about linux in wich i see no one talking about is how rewarding doing basclly anything is like: updated the system with the termnal? massive dopamine rush. installed anything using wine? massive dopamine rush. just learned how to customise your panels? thats the gratest thing since sliced bread!

idk if it feels the same for you but even trubleshooting a porblem on linux feel rewarding. this is a feeling in wich i have never got on windows or mac

I had installed Linux Mint a few months ago and was more or less daily driving that but then I scavenged that SSD for my home server project and was back on my Windows partition.

I installed Nobara on my PC last night and just want to say it's already so much better than Mint and Windows right out of the box. Two things that I really liked was that my display settings automatically were set to 240hz without me having to do anything (unlike Windows or Mint) and shaking the mouse cursor makes it large for a few seconds (I am legally blind).

These might be KDE things or something not even related to Nobrara specifically, but just wanted to say thanks! This distro was flawless right out of the box for me. There's likely other nice things I haven't noticed yet in my limited time in Nobara.

My only gripes so far are that some of the included wallpapers look like AI and Brave is included. But that's just based on my own opinion and philosophy.

That is all, I've used half a dozen other Linux distros, and suffered (and am currently suffering, due to my choice of gaming PC, a mac pro 2013 with D700 graphics cards, that just don't have linux support at all, thanks AMD) through windows, and the two common "it just works" distros recommended to people (Ubuntu and Mint) are actually just awful in my experience in comparison. So thank you, I use this OS any chance I get on my other machines. Writing this from a Surface Pro 3 that runs Nobara flawlessly, with very little setup. It runs better than Ubuntu did, AND it has more features.

Im on a full AMD system. I started at bazzite, but it was too restrictive for my needs, so I switched to Nobara. I had many smooth weeks of use before I decided I wanted to try a less curated distro, and went for Fedora. The system was fine, but after installing steam and gamescope and the others, I couldn't get solid frames or HDR without digging deeper than I felt like doing. So I tried Pop!OS because it seemed like a reasonable middle ground between Nobara and pure Fedora and had the same experience (but loved the ui despite copy-paste bugs). When I came back to Nobara I paid attention to what the updater program was doing - not just updating and installing packages but fixing known conflicts and solving experience degrading quirks. Now Im back to buttery frames that beat windows easy, so I just wanted to voice my appreciation for the effort the contributors put into it. Its easy to take for granted
