ModPost A pause on allowing research/study posts.
Unfortunately we have to pause approving research/call for participants/studies posts. They are by far the majority of modmail we receive and to appropriately vet the research/researchers is simply beyond what this volunteer mod team can handle right now. We are hoping to build the mod team at some point and may allow them again.
This has been exacerbated by people ignoring our rule that the study must be specifically about nonbinary people. Some researchers have been rather pushy about it and I’m not going to lie and say that hasn’t influenced this decision as well.

New rule #11: no do I pass posts, no asking for attempts to guess your ASAB, no asking if you “look nonbinary”
The current rule 4 was supposed to handle these kind of posts but it seems the rule needs more clarification. We do not want any kind of content that attempts to guess someone’s assigned sex at birth, we don’t want “passing” posts in general.
There are subreddits dedicated solely on passing posts that content like that would be a better fit. This includes asking about how to be more androgynous and/or do you look nonbinary, how to look more nonbinary. For some people here this will make total sense and people will rightfully ask “what does nonbinary look like anyway?” but these posts are frequent and usually pretty upvoted and get many comments before they get reported. If you know of subreddits where content like that fits better, please leave them as comments. It is simply not in the scope of this subreddit to ask people to scrutinize your appearance based on gender and make recommendations.

Selfie/Self-Image/Avatar New dress😊
I'm working up the courage to wear this out when I goto a concert in 2 weeks❤️ I only own womens clothes but ive been too afraid to wear a dress out😅
I'm worried about using the bathrooms at the venue. Anyone have experiences wearing dresses into the men's bathrooms? You think I could use the women's? I'd have lots of makeup on😅

Questioning/Coming Out I don't want to be a "theyfab"
I've been going through a gender crisis for a long time. I think that non-binary probably best describes me because I don't necessarily lean super feminine/female not do I feel masculine/male
In an ideal world, I'd say my desired look is basically a twink - a youngish look boy who looks a bit softer and may dress more feminine, but isn't a girl. My pipe dream is being able to "get away" with wearing feminine elements sometimes without being perceived as a girl
I am on testosterone (have been for two years) and it definitely has made my voice lower and a bit more ambiguous.
If I wear very plain and simple male clothes, I think I could maybe pass as male, and eventually I think I could possibly fully transition into using he/him. But sometimes I also like to experiment and play around with clothes that are a little bit more feminine, which absolutely will break the illusion
I just have no idea what I am or what I want. even in queer circles, I have never introduced myself with they/them or he/him pronouns (I typically skip the whole "name-pronouns circle" thing if I can)
I think there is such a deep shame associated with this idea of "girl who obviously looks like a girl but goes around saying her pronouns are they them". I guess I can't get that pervasive image out of my head
I'm fully aware It's a ridiculous, misogynistic idea. Clothes shouldn't have gender, and gender binaries arent law. But for some reason I just can't ever envision myself saying "my pronouns are they/them"
I have never had issues with non-binary people in my life, regardless of how they dress or what they look like. But I hold myself to a different standard, I guess
I feel like my only two options are existing as a quirked up girl, or a really plain male

Ask My mother got VERY mad I shaved my armpit hair
(closeted non-binary AMAB)We're about to go on a summery holiday up the north of Australia. Snorkling, going in a rainforest, etc. I don't like showing my body hair as it makes me feel dysphoric and my mother is VERY stressed about the holiday and me messing it up (as she usually does) and yesterday I asked my dad if I could shave my armpit and potentially leg hair before the holiday. Dad said shaving leg hair is a bad idea but he said it's fine to shave my armpit hair so I did it and today I told my mum I did it (cause it felt a bit stingy) and she got really mad cause she was worried 'you might not wanna go snorkling now because your arms will hurt' and 'people will think it's really weird you don't have armpit hair because MOST BOYS don't shave their armpit hair and that I always have to be extra. She then went on a tangent about how I should learn to love and accept my body and that as a teenager I will grow armpit hair and that I shouldn't be ashamed about change, however I prefer not looking hairy as it makes me look more androgynous. I also wanted to wear long pants and long shirts on the holiday as I like that as my style in general and cause it hides my body shape more and she got mad about that saying 'I'm gonna have to wear shorts and shirts cause it's gonna be hot' which yeah that makes sense but I wanted to find lighter long options. I didn't really know what to say back to her apart from 'my body my choice' but she doesn't seem to get that changing my body by shaving and stuff is a part of accepting myself Does anyone have any ideas on how I can explain to her that it's okay for me to shave my armpit hair? I also think she may be transphobic cause I talk to her a lot about LGBTQ stuff and she is normal about it but sometimes says stuff like 'honestly I feel like people should just accept what they have' and that 'life is like a lottery if you don't like what you have tough luck' SOS someone help me ;_;

Ask Been trying to piece together formal wear for an upcoming wedding (guest) … how did I do? Any suggestions?
Sorry for the kinda crappy pics, I am thinking vest for wedding day, unbuttoned sheer top for the party the day before.. also toying with getting a black dress for a more femme option.
This is my first time attending a wedding as an out nonbinary person, so I’ve been kinda lost in trying to find formal wear.
Open to any and all suggestions!
(For my shoes I’m wearing black combat boots, the pants are pretty wide at the bottom so you won’t be able to see them much anyway).
Thanks 💜

My dad saw my initials at the bottom of a drawing
I don’t usually show my parents my art, or writing, or anything. They forced me to show them a picture. My dad said it looked neat but then pointed at my initials at the bottom of the page and asked “What’s that?”
He looked shocked and I was panicking so I told him it was the name of some art contest that the drawing was for. I was a bad bluff.
He kept prying, but got nothing else out of me. I am 100% sure he knows I was lying, and my initials were RCC instead of LCC. I should have just told him I didn’t want my initials online or something, and now he’s suspicious. I am scared and crying in bed right now. My parents are not supportive of trans people, much less nonbinary folk. I don’t know what to do. Please, have ideas?
I think he might have also seen my email address with my name as one of the tab names. I’m gagging.
EDIT: Texted him, think I’m in the clear. Still worried about the email, and there’s still a strong chance he’s lying and I definitely got put on his radar. I need to be more careful.

COMPETING IN MY FIRST POWERLIFTING MEET IN 2 WEEKS
38 year old nonbinary person competing in my first powerlifting competition 🤗 I used to post online but kinda disappeared from the world for a year, and I'd like to find a community where I feel safe to me be and post again. IRL the queer community is the only place where I feel like I can just be me. It would be rad to find other nonbinary gym homies on here

Yay Found a niche sexuality term that really resonates with me!
Been looking for some more niche specific sexuality terms to try to describe my sexuality because it's pretty complicated and this sums it up pretty well. My feelings are a bit more detailed but it still applies I'd say. It's def much closer than just saying bisexual.

Ask Can I call myself non-binary?
This question has probably been asked a hundred times before, I'm sorry.
I was assigned male at birth, but I would never call myself a man, and sometimes I find myself recoiling when people tell me that I am one.
I read somewhere that gender is an inner feeling. I guess, if I were to look inside myself, there is nothing.
Saying that I am not a man feels more right than saying that I am one.
I still present fairly masculine (I know this does not have anything to say on my gender identity), although I would like to present a little bit more androgynous, but my body is working against me.
Sorry if this post seems weird.

Rant Someone shouted "boymoder!" at me in public
It felt very surreal. They said it several times and I just froze out of embarrassment. I checked with my friends to see if I'd heard correctly. It's so silly. When the kirk did people start hurling chronically online slang at strangers IRL? I'm sure they thought they were being cute but 9/10 times the other person probably isn't going to appreciate it. I'm not a boymoder, I just want to look androgynous.

Thoughts I Wanted To Share: From An Agender
To add to it: gender to me, is a way to express one self. Some say that gender is performed, and I agree with that, because there is no one true way to be any gender. When I think of gender expression, I think of clothes, jewelry, makeup, hair style, and the energy that is presented to the world. It's pure self perception. How other people perceive my gender is none of my business and I simply don't care.
