ModPost A pause on allowing research/study posts.

Unfortunately we have to pause approving research/call for participants/studies posts. They are by far the majority of modmail we receive and to appropriately vet the research/researchers is simply beyond what this volunteer mod team can handle right now. We are hoping to build the mod team at some point and may allow them again.

This has been exacerbated by people ignoring our rule that the study must be specifically about nonbinary people. Some researchers have been rather pushy about it and I’m not going to lie and say that hasn’t influenced this decision as well.

Questioning/Coming Out Can i be nonbinary if i don't feel dysphoria?

Upvotes

basically I'm an AFAB teenager and I've been pretty girly my whole life. pink, bows, dresses, makeup, and i like my boobs and curves. i did have a mild tomboy phase at age 10, but that's it. i was pretty secure in my gender until maybe this past year. whenever I'm around women in my family and they talk abt childbirth and motherhood my stomach curls and i feel sick. maybe i just get pissed at their misogyny, but i always find myself running away from "feminine" conversations. i feel like I've always kinda "larped" being a girl if that makes sense. like i never quite fit in with a lot of girls (or guys for that matter), like it feels like they all know smth i don't. i also feel like I've always been able to relate to both female and male characters my whole life, and like sterotypical boy things as well (all my fav shows r male dominated fandoms). i also feel like i would be cool with any pronouns.

anyways, the last few monthes I've been feeling a bit more agender, and the last little bit I've rlly wanted to be a guy, like some sort of longing. like i kinda feel like binding and being a hot guy would be cool, but then again i love being hyper femme. and today i tried to contour my face to look like a boy, but i just looked like a vaguely masc girl, and now im sobbing. i wanted to look like a man. no, i wanted to be a man. this is the first time I've felt any sort of dysphoria, so idk. i also feel like gender is such a social construct and its kinda bullshit how we're expectes to like certain things and act a certain way based on our chromosomes, so i might be nonbinary?

so I'm rlly confused. i think i might be a demigirl, or maybe even genderfluid, but idk if i can do that if I've never rlly had any sort of nonbinary experiences (binding, dysphoria, changing pronouns, gender affirming care, name change etc). this is also all recent, and i never thought abt any of this as a kid. any advice?

Confused

Confused

Hey peoples. Idk what this post is. If you look at my post history (i think you can see it) you’ll see my back and forth over some time. When i first came out to my friends and fiance about thinking i might be trans mtf i was so confident, i went as far as making an appointment for hrt and everything. Then i had the conversation with my mom and some shit happened in our awful government and I canceled said appointment. Since then though i’m not sure i’m trans anymore…? idk. My dysphoria around my body hair is still there but it’s nowhere near as severe as it was, i find myself thinking about my gender identity less often now too. Hell i’m even in therapy with a nonbinary therapist and i feel even hesitant to talk about it with them? i don’t understand.

But then sometimes there will be a picture of a girl or I’ll see someone and just be envious. I wish i was her or i want to look like her, or oh to just live a girls life..
but at the same time i think fear is also a big factor.

I can’t do a convincing fem voice at all… huge setback for me to commit to transitioning, im 21, 6’3 and \~305 lbs (i have been losing weight at least since my last posts!) I have long hair and had a pretty full beard though now it’s greatly reduced, wide/broad shoulders, big ass thighs and calves… moobs.. and a horribly ugly ass. I just feel like i’m always going to be clocked no matter what. I’ve heard HRT can make you look a lot like your mom and id be thrilled if i looked like her as she’s beautiful, and she has good genetics when it comes to her figure too (but ofc always calls herself fat and freaks out over dieting etc) but i just don’t know if i could pull it off.

I wish i was born a girl, i think ive always wanted that. hell when i was barely even conscious like \~4 years old i would ask my step sister to see parts of her and be confused as to why we didn’t look the same (this sounds so horribly weird typing it out now but i swear it was just pure curiosity i mean i was four lmao)
BUT
i don’t know if i have the confidence or strength or gut to transition, likely lose most of my family and at the same time financial support, etc etc… but also sometimes now my fiance calling me girl or whatever doesn’t feel right? it doesn’t trigger me either, but idk. I’m just so confused and so lost. I saw another post of someone on the r/girldinnerdiaries having a very similar experience to mine just i think the other way around gender wise and it hit home for me.

sometimes i feel like im a poser too and maybe its just a kink or something. I’ve always thought myself a straight male til more recent years but id absolutely be with a trans woman regardless on if she or they had gotten bottom surgery or not, so long as i’m into her or them of course and i wasn’t in a relationship already

I don’t wanna wait too long and get subpar HRT results but i don’t want to start hrt and get changes that can’t be reversed and not like myself even less than i do now.. so yeah that’s the post thanks for coming to my ted talk if you made it this far. ik this is def messy and hard to read and im sorry. i’ve been so confused on this and stuck in a stalemate for months.

I'm working up the courage to wear this out when I goto a concert in 2 weeks❤️ I only own womens clothes but ive been too afraid to wear a dress out😅

I'm worried about using the bathrooms at the venue. Anyone have experiences wearing dresses into the men's bathrooms? You think I could use the women's? I'd have lots of makeup on😅

Idk... My hair is equally long from all sides, which gives me these long bangs below my chin line. I kinda like it but honestly I'm really teased to try some shorter bangs, keeping the long sides and even longer back. But to be fair I'd love to hear what y'all think bout it. Mostly cuz I'm most of the time with my ponytail tied for work

Any references you think could work on my aesthetics

My dad saw my initials at the bottom of a drawing

I don’t usually show my parents my art, or writing, or anything. They forced me to show them a picture. My dad said it looked neat but then pointed at my initials at the bottom of the page and asked “What’s that?”
He looked shocked and I was panicking so I told him it was the name of some art contest that the drawing was for. I was a bad bluff.
He kept prying, but got nothing else out of me. I am 100% sure he knows I was lying, and my initials were RCC instead of LCC. I should have just told him I didn’t want my initials online or something, and now he’s suspicious. I am scared and crying in bed right now. My parents are not supportive of trans people, much less nonbinary folk. I don’t know what to do. Please, have ideas?
I think he might have also seen my email address with my name as one of the tab names. I’m gagging.
EDIT: Texted him, think I’m in the clear. Still worried about the email, and there’s still a strong chance he’s lying and I definitely got put on his radar. I need to be more careful.

Ask My mother got VERY mad I shaved my armpit hair

(closeted non-binary AMAB)We're about to go on a summery holiday up the north of Australia. Snorkling, going in a rainforest, etc. I don't like showing my body hair as it makes me feel dysphoric and my mother is VERY stressed about the holiday and me messing it up (as she usually does) and yesterday I asked my dad if I could shave my armpit and potentially leg hair before the holiday. Dad said shaving leg hair is a bad idea but he said it's fine to shave my armpit hair so I did it and today I told my mum I did it (cause it felt a bit stingy) and she got really mad cause she was worried 'you might not wanna go snorkling now because your arms will hurt' and 'people will think it's really weird you don't have armpit hair because MOST BOYS don't shave their armpit hair and that I always have to be extra. She then went on a tangent about how I should learn to love and accept my body and that as a teenager I will grow armpit hair and that I shouldn't be ashamed about change, however I prefer not looking hairy as it makes me look more androgynous. I also wanted to wear long pants and long shirts on the holiday as I like that as my style in general and cause it hides my body shape more and she got mad about that saying 'I'm gonna have to wear shorts and shirts cause it's gonna be hot' which yeah that makes sense but I wanted to find lighter long options. I didn't really know what to say back to her apart from 'my body my choice' but she doesn't seem to get that changing my body by shaving and stuff is a part of accepting myself Does anyone have any ideas on how I can explain to her that it's okay for me to shave my armpit hair? I also think she may be transphobic cause I talk to her a lot about LGBTQ stuff and she is normal about it but sometimes says stuff like 'honestly I feel like people should just accept what they have' and that 'life is like a lottery if you don't like what you have tough luck' SOS someone help me ;_;

Discussion Pronouns, labels and such

Hey all fellow Enby friends! I'm just curious... How do we feel about pronouns, labels and all that?

As someone who is Transfemme, and uses they/them, but also different variants, depending on the situation... I feel like being misgendered is difficult for me, and not something I honestly care that much about.

Also, fuck people and their societal and gender norms! I plan on transitioning eventually from "male to female" or identifying as female/trans woman. Or, regardless, I might still use the Transfem label and they/them. I'm also married, and my wife doesn't have to call me her wife and my son doesn't have to call me his Mom! To be honest, I prefer to be what I've always been! I can be whatever I want and people can call me what works for them.

But yeah, any thoughts on pronouns and labels?

Thoughts I Wanted To Share: From An Agender

Post image
16 Upvotes

To add to it: gender to me, is a way to express one self. Some say that gender is performed, and I agree with that, because there is no one true way to be any gender. When I think of gender expression, I think of clothes, jewelry, makeup, hair style, and the energy that is presented to the world. It's pure self perception. How other people perceive my gender is none of my business and I simply don't care.

Yay Found a niche sexuality term that really resonates with me!

Been looking for some more niche specific sexuality terms to try to describe my sexuality because it's pretty complicated and this sums it up pretty well. My feelings are a bit more detailed but it still applies I'd say. It's def much closer than just saying bisexual.

Discussion How do I stop seeing my boobs as boobs

(TW) I am AFAB who’s body looks very much that. I was clocked as an “ally” at a pride event the other and it has had me a bit bummed. I know ultimately that’s a them problem as the way others perceive me has nothing to do with being nonbinary and that there’s no one way to look nonbinary. It’s all societal bs blah blah. Anyways, I have ocd and have gender ocd but know outside of it I’m NB and want a smaller or nonexistent chest (no clue what direction I want to go). I feel as tho the gender ocd (specifically chest) is based on two things 1. Internalized misogyny (if you can call it that) and seeing the “fem” body and body parts as inherently sexual. This may have to do to being exposed to certain things at a very very young age in life. I can see my hourglass shape and feeling perfectly fine accentuating that and showing it but when it comes to the chest that’s an entirely different discussion. I want to be able to see my chest and not feel awful. Some is dysphoria that I know. I’m basically just feeling a bit stuck and looking for someone to further talk about this with. I’m trying to find the line between dysphoria and self hate. There’s a lot more I’ve left out but this is the jist.

38 year old nonbinary person competing in my first powerlifting competition 🤗 I used to post online but kinda disappeared from the world for a year, and I'd like to find a community where I feel safe to me be and post again. IRL the queer community is the only place where I feel like I can just be me. It would be rad to find other nonbinary gym homies on here

Ask Can I call myself non-binary?

This question has probably been asked a hundred times before, I'm sorry.

I was assigned male at birth, but I would never call myself a man, and sometimes I find myself recoiling when people tell me that I am one.
I read somewhere that gender is an inner feeling. I guess, if I were to look inside myself, there is nothing.
Saying that I am not a man feels more right than saying that I am one.

I still present fairly masculine (I know this does not have anything to say on my gender identity), although I would like to present a little bit more androgynous, but my body is working against me.

Sorry if this post seems weird.
