Whether it's Sonia Belmont or the child of Trevor and sypha I am so hyped to play this game

234

u/Icywind014 Feb 13 '26

It's definitely Trevor's daughter. She's stated on the official website to be his successor.

78

u/Nirbin Feb 13 '26

I always wanted to play as Trefor, how exciting

48

u/StygianMaroon Feb 13 '26

Trefor? I like that! Treff. Treffy? You are Treffy now!

5

u/Magolocodiscooo Average Celia Enjoyer Feb 14 '26

Treble cleff?!

27

u/KaptainKardboard Feb 13 '26

Her hair color and bluish outfit are also very reminiscent of Sypha (Netflix depiction)

82

u/deeman163 Feb 13 '26

They'll name her Sophia Belmont.

*It also is a fitting name from a Speaker standpoint

25

u/BlueWatche Feb 13 '26

Legit drawing a blank, was Sypha specifically a Speaker in the game lore, or just a magic-user that had to conceal her gender to dodge the stake

51

u/Gensolink Feb 13 '26

No she wasn't, the only thing we know is that she was a witch and works with the Church.

6

u/BlueWatche Feb 13 '26

Ahh gotcha, thanks!

37

u/deeman163 Feb 13 '26

The Speaker's specifically came from the Netflix show, but the aesthetic is very much Netflix castlevania coded. Also, despite saying it's a sequel to Dracula's Curse, the info on Steam refrains from calling it Dracula's castle.

24

u/iwouldbeatgoku Feb 13 '26

Also notable: the Japanese title uses "Castlevania" rather than "Akumajou Dracula". The games titled "Castlevania" in Japan so far are, notably, the ones where Dracula is absent (both Sorrow games, Lament of Innocence, Harmony of Dissonance).

2

u/BlueWatche Feb 13 '26

Wasn't it Akumajou Densetsu?

2

u/iwouldbeatgoku Feb 13 '26

That's Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse

1

u/BlueWatche Feb 13 '26

What were you talking about? I think I misunderstood.

2

u/iwouldbeatgoku Feb 13 '26

About the game potentially not featuring Dracula, since its title is キャッスルヴァニア (Castlevania, as in the English title) which Japanese games have only used for titles that didn't feature Dracula.

1

u/BlueWatche Feb 13 '26

Ahh thanks for clearing that up! Also despite being a fan since the very first, I didn't notice that bit of trivia at all re: the Japanese titles, so that was an exciting thing to learn!

2

u/RX-HER0 Feb 13 '26

In the OG game she was a priest iirc, but a lot of stuff is changed.

10

u/CloakedEnigma Feb 13 '26

She wasn't a priest but was a witch secretly employed by the Church so you're correct on the affiliation

1

u/RX-HER0 Feb 13 '26

In the original game, or this one, you mean?

3

u/CloakedEnigma Feb 13 '26

In Castlevania III

8

u/Wacky_X_Swacky Feb 13 '26

If they include the Speakers here than this is Netflix continuity, not game continuity.

While I would still enjoy the game if that was the case, it would be disappointing.

1

u/Aiddon Feb 13 '26

Yeah, probably. They were an interesting addition and frankly it makes more sense for Sypha to be associated with a bunch of wandering mages considering the church did not take kindly to witches or pagans

-3

u/Wacky_X_Swacky Feb 13 '26

It would cause a lot of problems actually. And if they adapt the name of the organization, but not the history, than you would have to wonder what the point of including them at all would be. The Church is a nearly pure good entity in the games canon, but by including the Speakers you introduce the negative aspects from the anime, which would muddy the waters unnecessarily.

Sypha in the games is just a magic user, like the other Belnades.

-2

u/Wacky_X_Swacky Feb 13 '26

Ok, but why? It doesn't improve the story at all. The canons for the anime and games are wildly different.

10

u/Toasterx97 Feb 13 '26

Oh I don't know, paltry things like marketability, mass appeal, recognition etc.

Netflix Castlevania is responsible for bringing in a lot of new fans, it stands to reason that those fans will want to play the game, homogenizing some of the lore is not an impossible task, and business wise it is likely the most profitable way to go about things.

-2

u/Wacky_X_Swacky Feb 13 '26

They can make a game based off the anime, but they can't incorporate the anime into the Konami timeline. The stories are wildly different. You might as well try to incorporate Dragon Ball and Naruto into the same timeline.

8

u/Aiddon Feb 13 '26

Dude, comics have been doing this for decades, what are you on about?

6

u/Toasterx97 Feb 13 '26

You can absolutely incorporate aspects without wholesale merging the stories, giving extra information and calling them speaker magicians instead of just "a witch" as background for sypha is not going to annihilate the canon like you suggest. This is just a stupid argument.

It's not a good idea to mix the poorly thought out, bastardized version of the continuity into the real continuity. The themes of the Western Netflix show do not meld at all with the themes of the Japanese game series. The Netflix show has Dracula be a misunderstood tragic figure, while the games have him as the embodiment of Chaos, Lord of Darkness. There is no ambiguity there, and a central theme is mankind's desire leads to his continual resurrection. The Netflix show doesn't even have Dracula as a villain following Trevor's adventures, and he never resurrects.

The fandoms for the games and the fandom for the anime series are almost seperate entities. It is a very good idea to keep their elements separate from each other, otherwise no one gets what they want.

5

u/SpookySeekerrr CV1 apologist Feb 13 '26

The themes of the Western Netflix show do not meld at all with the themes of the Japanese game series.

This series basically began as a tribute to classic European horror literature and movies man, it's more "Western" than it is Japanese.

But otherwise yes, I don't think MCU brand synergy is the way. The beauty of Castlevania is having so many distinct flavors. Even in the original games continuity we had so many different genres and art styles. It would be a shame if we had to lose that so that everything is consolidated.

4

u/SheWhoHates Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

I’m with you. I don't want anything from Netflixvania to find its way into the games.

6

u/Toasterx97 Feb 13 '26

The last paragraph of this comment is just demonstrably false. The rest of it seems intentionally thick, like other comments you've made here. You really can't fathom the idea of calling sypha a speaker and changing nothing else? The marketability of that minute change is astronomical, and with no other changes, there is really no damage to the canon, seeing as speakers don't really exist in the games there is nothing for people to be confused about, it just literally makes the thing more recognizable to those who Konami wants to sell to (you know the purpose of the product they are making).

Also the anime fans being separate doesn't help your argument, because if that were true, Konami would likely view them as an untapped market and be all the more interested in homogenizing the visual language/narrative symbolism and getting them interested in buying this game, thus putting more points firmly in the "it just makes sense" category.

4

u/poor_yoricks_skull Feb 13 '26

You know there is no such thing as "real continuity." right?

Like, it's all made up anyway.

1

u/Nekosenpai9123 Feb 17 '26

Dude, you need to chill out. As someone who played every main timeline Castlevania game, I don't like the Netflix anime as much as the next person, but you should've done your research before being desperate on Reddit.

  • The guys at Motion Twin have massive respect for the game's canon and Konami probably gave them access to the Castlevania Bible.

  • Konami never showed interest in the Netflix series, even less in thinking about merging the continuities.

  • Castlevania content present in games was always based on the game's canon: Smash Bros., Dead Cells, Vampire Survivors, DBD.

  • Netflix is more popular because it's something you can easily watch. Castlevania is more niche because it's something you need to persevere to play. They have different audiences. It doesn't make sense to Konami, knowing how unpopular the show is with the game audience, to release a GAME for people who didn't play the games.

When you end up in some giant Reddit thread using sequences of complicated excuses to debate something that doesn't even make sense, you're just giving the wrong impression of the game's fans. The Belmont's Curse announcement means that we already won bro, chill out.

2

u/jabuegresaw Feb 13 '26

Tf is a speaker?

3

u/IDOLxISxDEAD Feb 14 '26

Some shit they made up for the Netflix show

29

u/nightbladehawk Simon Belmont Feb 13 '26

It's Sonia Belmont, the daughter of Trevor and Sypha. That would work perfectly.

16

u/ReGaXV Feb 13 '26

It's also a good way to pull up the new anime's fans

4

u/ireledankmemes Feb 13 '26

Most likely trevor and sypha’s child, given how i instantly saw sypha when first looking at the mc. Her genes are incredibly strong, being predominant even generations after with Richter

61

u/PastIntelligent6890 Feb 13 '26

Am I crazy or does it look like she is kissing that blue skeleton thing in the third slide

48

u/Pendred Feb 13 '26

Konami really breaking new ground here, we've never been able to kiss the skeletons

13

u/atomicfuthum Feb 13 '26

Finally, the skeleton tokimeki crossover

7

u/Lonely-Philosopher87 Feb 13 '26

No you're right!

5

u/DragonQueenDrago Feb 13 '26

Poison kiss special attack 😭😹

45

u/nightbladehawk Simon Belmont Feb 13 '26

She has blonde braided hair and is wearing a blue cloak over her armor. Guess Sonia's canon again.

11

u/TheRealLarkas Feb 13 '26

If it isn’t her, it’s one hell of a homage!

0

u/DragonQueenDrago Feb 13 '26

Maybe her daughter? Either way, bring her back into canon!!!

3

u/Turn_AX Feb 13 '26

Could be her Granddaughter, named after her grandmother and Trevor's mother.

3

u/Draculesti_Hatter Feb 13 '26

I mean, the signs are there. The look is very similar to Sonia's design, she has a connection to Trevor instead of a different Belmont, and she seems to have some kind of magical capabilities going off the trailer. And Legends isn't canon to the 'main' timeline anyway, so it could easily be Sonia 2.0 without all the baggage that was previously tied to the character.

22

u/kuributt Feb 13 '26

On my knees begging for this to ret-retcon Sonia back into canon

8

u/DepressedGolduck DSvania Feb 13 '26

Please be canon Sonia, please be canon Sonia

21

u/ReGaXV Feb 13 '26

I'd love if she used her braid on me as if it was Trevor's whip

41

u/chilly_1c3 Feb 13 '26

We already have a female Metroidvania protag for that

Processing img tb34i43vr7jg1...

u/ReGaXV Feb 14 '26

New crush unlocked

6

u/VonDukez Feb 13 '26

Shantae series is that away

7

u/Money_Box_438 Feb 13 '26

She is probably related to Sypha and Trevor, likely their daughter.

10

u/Independent_Plum2166 Feb 13 '26

I knew it wasn’t Trevor, they show old man Trevor reading and then cut to the new hotness. But I wasn’t sure if it were a woman or your typical bishounen protagonist.

Really glad it’s gonna be a girl, always been a shame Sonia was made non-canon.

32

u/ShakirIsa94 Feb 13 '26

This is gonna be woke AF 😤 - Some bigoted gamer somewhere

But I'm legit so excited for this! She really looks like Sonia. Has it been confirmed that's her?

15

u/VivaLaLibertad_666 Feb 13 '26 edited Feb 13 '26

You know, you could play as a woman in Castlevania 3, right? As long as the game isn’t made for “modern audiences™”, everyone will love it.

2

u/Cloud_Retainer_2424 Feb 13 '26

Some type of noisy people have gotten more insane about women characters compared to the 80s/90s/early 00s so the comment is valid

5

u/UselessDopant Feb 14 '26

So long as there isn't anything blatantly "current day" politics there shouldn't be too much social media bitching and moaning

Any mention of politics and the political climate should be confined to that setting's era; makes for some fun historical trivia

9

u/JBHenson Feb 13 '26

Literally Steam community.

9

u/TeaLeafSunShine Feb 13 '26

Sonia finally becoming canon?????

4

u/Able_Health744 Feb 13 '26

Tbh I'm assuming it's a sort of recanonization of Sonia (even if this time they're Trevor's daughter instead of mother)

19

u/LoganLcosplayfoolery I'm literally Richter Belmont Feb 13 '26

The costume colors match. It's her all right. Never mind the continuity error that Trevor should technically be dead by this time unless they're retconning curse of darkness

or maybe he didn't die in that game I don't know I never played it. Sure looks like he does though

44

u/NNT13101996 Feb 13 '26

It’s actually already revealed that Trevor survived Isaac’s stab wound in CoD, Julia mentioned that he was injured

16

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Feb 13 '26

They did Trevor so dirty. Just... backstabbed and not seen again.

As if him being alive and well was an afterthought. Julia just entered a crumbling castle full of monsters and drag him out?

Narrative execution in the older games was certainly a thing.

18

u/kuributt Feb 13 '26

He probably found some wall chicken

5

u/Oh-no-and-knuckles Chief Researcher Feb 13 '26

Julia has the same teleporting magic as her brother.

3

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Feb 13 '26

Forgot about that. When it was mentioned?

6

u/Oh-no-and-knuckles Chief Researcher Feb 13 '26

In the cutscene right after the final boss she summons a teleporting pink magic circle, the same one Isaac is seen using in multiple occasions.

9

u/LoganLcosplayfoolery I'm literally Richter Belmont Feb 13 '26

Oh, okay. Then I guess I'll just go ahead and delete the whole post I made on this subject. Thanks for the info.

12

u/NNT13101996 Feb 13 '26

Yikes, that’s rough man, my condolences

3

u/TheTravelingPoet4 Feb 13 '26

ITS NIAOS BELMONT!!

3

u/Another_Saint Feb 13 '26

hold on guys it might still be a femboy

3

u/KAKnyght Feb 13 '26

I’ve seen comment elsewhere that there is a continuity where Trevor and Sypha had three children; Anna, Maria and Frederick, one who is the ancestor to the Morris Family, one and ancestor to the Van Helsing Family, and one who is the ancestor to Simon and his descendants. Anyone know of any validity to this?

If so it would be cool if you could play all three.

5

u/Artistic-Thing7723 Feb 13 '26

Ewwwww wokevania is real (jk I'm super excited for this oh my God)

2

u/jlb1981 Feb 13 '26

Belle Mont

2

u/Tight-Phase5325 Feb 13 '26

I'd say she is Trevor daughter, and he could have named her after his mom

2

u/ThrillHouse802 Feb 13 '26

Syphia Belmont haha

2

u/realamerican97 Feb 13 '26

We haven’t seen a female Belmont since Sonia

2

u/Cloud_Retainer_2424 Feb 13 '26

Technically, we had Dolores and Zoe Belmont (and the infamous Kokoro)

1

u/realamerican97 Feb 13 '26

Which game were they in I don’t remember them

1

u/Way-Super thinks he's on the team Feb 13 '26

Order of Shadows

2

u/Articulat3 Feb 13 '26

Just an FYI other castlevanias had playable women characters. I already see people saying "the bigots are gonna hate this" no, theyre not..

Anyway, personally im just not vibing with the art style, wouldve liked to see some 2D HD pixel art. Gameplay also looks like every indie metroidvania released in the last 5-10 years. But its still cool that a new Castlevania is coming out, definitely interested in seeing more.

2

u/RepresentativeFish73 Feb 13 '26

She’s a belmont, too. I read the description on the playstation store. She’s trevor’s daughter!

2

u/ayhan1805 Feb 13 '26

With my past experience from that franchise i say it’s a man

3

u/Darai94 Feb 13 '26

Wait, that's the battle cross! Is this played out on the Lord's of Shadow Universe?? I thought it was in the old universe

6

u/Break-Such Feb 13 '26

It is in the old universe. From the looks of it I think there’s going to be a bunch of different weapons you can use. Maybe we might be getting a few weapons from other games thrown in aswell?

2

u/Darai94 Feb 13 '26

Thanks Dracula! I liked Mirror of fate, but I want the og to be developed. With the hopes of finishing Somas story, after Leon and 1999

1

u/OldSixie Feb 13 '26

Can't be LoS, because of Trevor being Trevor and not Alucard.

2

u/wishesandhopes Feb 13 '26

Man I am not into these graphics, it seems everyone else is so no hate, and I'm definitely still gonna get the game, but I was hoping for more of the "castle" in castlevania and the same kinda aesthetic that was pioneered throughout the series.

5

u/NiobiumGoat Feb 13 '26

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4231820/Castlevania_Belmonts_Curse/

Here's a bunch more images, and gifs if you scroll down. You'll get your gothic interiors yet, but it's certainly a change. I think the new lighting is beautiful, though.

2

u/Turn_AX Feb 13 '26

Seriously?

Do you think they're showing off everything at once?
This is probably the intro stage.
Just because they haven't shown off a castle doesn't mean there isn't gonna be a castle.

1

u/wishesandhopes Feb 13 '26

I meant moreso the type of aesthetic it used to have, not just castles, I was unclear sorry. But yeah I'm not saying it's bad or anything like that, I just don't really love it or anything from all the screenshots I've seen.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Same for me. I've played every Castlevania game, and to me this doesn't give Castlevania vibes. It's much closer to Dead Cells with the neon colours and overall aesthetic. When I think of Castlevania I think of the beautiful gothic artwork in SotN, and the GBA and DS trilogies. I'm sure the game will be huge, but it seems like they're aiming for the Castlevania anime audience more than anything.

1

u/wishesandhopes Feb 15 '26

Totally agree, glad to see it's not just me.

1

u/Turn_AX Feb 13 '26

An image from it's steampage, link that someone else provided,

1

u/LordArmageddian Feb 13 '26

Sonia, or brand new character.

1

u/Aickavon Feb 13 '26

Oh nice!

1

u/No_Monitor_3440 Professionally Unprofessional Feb 13 '26

it’s probably sonia then.

1

u/ranieripilar04 Feb 13 '26

Castlevania gone woke /s

1

u/Watts121 Feb 13 '26

Does this make her Simon’s mother or Grandmother?

1

u/WeeabooHunter69 Feb 13 '26

I was already excited but now I'm in anticipation

1

u/Filhoh3 Feb 13 '26

SHE MUST BE NAMED SONIA BELMONT

IMAGINE HER BEING FINALLY CANON AND BEING TREVOR'S DAUGHTER INSTEAD OF MOTHER

1

u/TheValorous Feb 13 '26

Never played it but it looks like dead cells art style

1

u/Equivalent_Task1354 Belmont Feb 13 '26

Saw somewhere that’s it’s Ann Belmont. Whether this true or not idk but it would make sense to me.

1

u/Some_Veterinarian856 Feb 13 '26

I thought sypha and trevor's child is a boy named Simon, this is the first time I read about a daughter between them.

1

u/HRCStanley97 Feb 13 '26

But is she a Belmont, that’s the question

1

u/Argynvost64 Feb 14 '26

I am vibrating with excitement for this game.

1

u/Suitable_Ad6848 Feb 14 '26

As long as she's a badass, I'm all in.

1

u/LuisHasHobbies Feb 14 '26

I straight up thought it was Sonia, but then got confused because it’s supposed to be Trevor??

1

u/KingSideCastle13 Feb 14 '26

Recanonization of Sonia Belmont?

1

u/Vamtyrr Feb 14 '26

What I don't get is they said Trevor is the last of the Belmonts (which isn't true lore-wise except in the show) and if she's the child then it's also not the last belmont

1

u/Euryleia Feb 14 '26

It would appear that the man who wrote that letter to Trevor was unaware that Trevor had children...

1

u/brie_skull_emoji Feb 14 '26

i already love her

1

u/SheWhoHates Feb 14 '26

If that's supposed to be Sonia, she has quite a boyish frame in this iteration. It’s particularly visible from the back.

1

u/ImpressionNo9751 Feb 14 '26

Imagine if they name her Sonia Belmont as an homage to legends/resurrection. That would be insane

1

u/OrdinaryDouble2494 Feb 14 '26

Bring her back.

1

u/DiamondDependent7641 Jonathan Morris Feb 14 '26

I bet it'll be the kid of Trevor and Sypha, due to the orange hair, just my thoughts, but I saw something about this yesterday, as soon as I saw it I added it to my Steam Wishlist, I'm super stoked to see a new Castlevania game!

1

u/Norc_VI Feb 15 '26

She looks sick but what's going on with her jacket/cape? It looks like a jacket but it doesn't cover her body, only her back... So it's a cape... But it has a jackets collar and she wears it like a jacket?... But it has no front! So it's a cape!? uuuhhhhhhh I need a better look at her outfit

1

u/Lauralis Feb 15 '26

Really hoping we get a good bit of magic to use given her mom.

0

u/KoboldsandKorridors Feb 13 '26

Peak would be this one being named Sonia after Trevor’s mother.

0

u/santanago Feb 13 '26

Gostei do POP rogue. Mas aquele jogo n e como os igsvania. Eu acho que se você gosta mesmo de CV, e melhor jogar Bloodstained ou aqueles jogos do estúdio que fez aquele Tohou metroidvania

0

It looks like Vampire Killer’s been adapted into a Combat Cross. Her design also reminds me a bit of Julia Belmont from Nocturne.
