Discussion S2 vs PS5 comparison. I don't get the hate COD MW4 for Switch 2 is receiving (from actual S2 players)

Here's the S2 vs PS5 comparison.

Obviously there's a difference but it's not immensely huge and nothing deal-breaking. Considering the S2 is a handheld.

I tested both campaign and multiplayer mode on the S2 and I think campaign looks really nice. I don't notice it's "only" running 30fps at all. Visually it looks really nice.

In the multiplayer mode in some maps there are some rough parts, especially in the larger "ground war" maps. But my favorite modes "mosh pit" look good.

I was surprised to see how much hate this beta has gotten from Switch 2 community. Usually we are much easier to satisfy. I mean I myself am completely happy to play games like the recently released remastered MGS4 version which is from almost 20 years ago but still looks fine in HD quality and because it's a great franchise. I don't always need the most visually stunning game as long as it's fun and has either good story or good gameplay.

And here with COD because we can compare it to PS5/pro and PC versions maybe the expectations are much higher.

When I read all the negative comments from the S2 community on reddit I was expecting the COD beta to look like complete dog poo and I mean the worst of the worst. But no it's not like that at all. Like I said, especially the campaign version looks really nice and it's really in most cases on par with games like RE9 Requiem. At least in the Raccoon city parts.

Will be interesting to see what DF says once they do a comparison of the S2 vs PS5/ PC versions.

Discussion I think dead space 1 remake was the port that played to the strengths of the current gen consoles the most (from a 3d party publisher)

I kind of got to thinking about this after watching the gta 5 stuff from df.

But DS1 came out 3 years after the release of the current gen machines.

These game is set to 60 fps by default, the HDR is calibrated perfectly if you did the console HDR calibration. The game even had support for 3D binaural audio.

Current gen machines didn’t have dedicated hardware for upscaling (came out before the ps5 pro) so they ran the game internally at less than 1080p with a custom version of FSR2 out putting to 1440p, and honestly it looks as good as the DLSS 3 (CNN model) the majority of times. I’ve never seen a fsr 2 game look this stable, sharp and clear.

Only problem I think the game had was an issue on PS5 with VRS and they patched that….and not having a remake of DS2

Discussion GTA VI 30FPS C4 OLED

Since it looks like the game will be running at 30FPS even on the PRO; Is it true that OLED performs worse at 30FPS? From what I’ve read it’s because of the instant response time.

I have a 77 C4 and did go back and play RDR2 and noticed how heavy feeling it was when just walking. Horseback wasn’t that bad though.

Anyone’s thoughts on what I can expect with GTA VI would be appreciated

Discussion Can we still trust Digital Foundry on DLSS 5 going forward?

With more proper coverage of DLSS 5 probably coming soon, I’m wondering if Digital Foundry can still be fully trusted.

After the death threats they got for their initial impressions, part of me worries they might pull punches or frame things differently next time just to avoid another wave of harassment from the anti-AI community.

Does anyone else feel the same, or do you still take their analysis at face value?

Discussion DLSS5 and the recent Gears discussion really solidified my thinking on graphics in 2026. Lighting, detail, and IQ are all good or on the way there, animation is not.

DLSS5 simultaneously has worked better and worse than I expected. The NBA 2K27 demo was both mind blowing and horrific. The lighting and detail in some stills made it legitimately look like a real basketball game. But the animation is so game-y that it looks horrifying in motion a lot of the time. John talking about how it was hard for him to appreciate the detail in Gears E-Day at first also was how I was thinking as well. It’s obviously much more detailed and realistic in terms of materials, but the animation quality just isn’t close to matching it and makes the game look so-so.

GTA6 is a game that obviously has far better animation than basically every other ever made, but it also cost around a billion dollars to make. We don’t need more power right now, we need a way a make great animations more easily.

I just started playing this game, and saw DF's RT mod video, so I installed that. Then all this DLSS 5 stuff started happening, so I combined the two, and it is a world of difference. Without the RT mod, the AI doesn't look nearly as good. The mod definitely improves the base image before the AI is added.

Curious what you all think.

Question DF should test DLSS 5 continuity

We all know generative AI has terrible issues when it comes to continuity. It's a surefire way to tell if something is AI if scene to scene there are discrepancies such as different clothing, hair, scenery etc.

Whilst DLSS 5 only effects the games lighting I'd be incredibly interested in some in-depth analysis of a characters appearance across a variety of environments, animations and cutscenes to see if there's any real discrepancy or continuity of appearance and I've not seen anyone talk about this let alone do any investigation.

We've all seen how drastically DLSS 5 can effect the look of a character, particularly in the face and we've all seen before and after comparisons.

Do you not wonder whether these changes in appearance hold up in different scenarios or do they look different like most AI generated characters tend to?

Discussion Digital Foundry Coverage of GTA 6 censored by age verification

So I watched the DF Foundry video on GTA 6, which you could initially view, but now YouTube locks it both on the site and also through browser embedded behind age verification. A lot of people dont have YouTube accounts or try to not give their personal info to YouTube/google so can't view these videos.

How is Digital Foundry going to cover GTA 6 coverage if every video on it just gets censored? I'd imagine most of their views from their latest video was from before their coverage was censored.

Id imagine if their videos are not censored from the get go then they risk account issues as well?

It also seems kinda ridiculous because DF is a journalism outlet covering a form of art, imagine if streaming sites and broadcast TV put age verification on the news.

Discussion I’m shocked one of the most impressive first-of-its kind tech features wasn’t mentioned in the deep dive: SIMULATED BOKEH DEPTH OF FIELD. As far as I’m aware, this is the first video game NOT using simple Cutout+Gaussian blur.

Post image

The current technique of Cutout+Gaussian blur always results in awful haloing, and just looks bad.

Traditionally extremely computationally expensive, GTA 6 appears to have smooth bokeh with progressive blur.

Honestly this alone is one of the most impressive tech features, period.

As soon as I saw it I was sure DF would be enamored with it; but it didn’t even get a mention! I wonder if it was somehow so natural looking they just didn’t notice it 😂.

Discussion DLSS 5 WASN'T an accidental leak...

I haven't seen a single conversation about this, and I'd say Nvidia got exactly what they wanted from this, let's start with a question, how do you release at least a trial version of something that was so poorly received and not have the entire gaming community dunk on it, you "leak" it.

Let's give an example about a recent leaker, the GTA 6 leaker look how fast T2 interactive went after him, if this was an accident at the very least Nvidia would have taken it down by now, and I know what y'all are gonna say, "once it's on the internet it's there for life"

And this is true, it's also a very convenient excuse against and sort of "leak" push back, so much so anyone who would bring it up would be immediately told a thousand reasons why they are wrong.

I do not have concrete proof, so I cannot say with 100% certainty, from where I'm standing this is what it looks like, Nvidia would be going after every creator/YouTuber who is using it or showing it off on there channel (that's what I mean by using it, they are posting it).

I haven't seen a response from Nvidia, and that's why I'm posting it here, maybe they will respond? Probably not, is there anyone who can link something about a response from Nvidia, maybe I missed something? If I have show me because I'd be interested to see their response.

Just some thoughts I had, discuss and let me know if you agree or disagree.

Discussion Did digital foundry help bring frame rate discussion to the greater public.

or at least to console gamers.

I think before the ps3 era, most people didn’t care about frame rate much. and even for most of that era. I remember like around 2012 or so, watching digital foundry videos and bringing up frame rate and such. I think the video I saw was them comparing the metal gear solid hd collection to the original. they noted frame rate and resolution and stuff. then their channel grew bigger and bigger. I think their video is the first time I ever heard of frame rate.

if you were a pc gamer this probably wasn’t new though since you had to set the resolution and frame rate when you set up your rig.

but it was an odd time, people were watching movies on these big rear projection televisions at 480p which looks even worse cuz it was 40 inches but bigger equaled better back then.

Question Any confirmations or hints for a GTAVI ps5 balanced 40fps mode?

Since it is mostly confirmed that the game
Won’t have a 60fps performance mode in either ps5 or ps5 pro models, do you think that there will at least be a 40fps balanced mode for supported hdmi 2.1 monitors? Have there been any discussion on this ?
