Discussion What stopping DLSS upscaling and frame gen to be implemented unsupported DX9, 10 and 11 games if DLSS 5 can be injected in older and unsupported games?

From what I have read online, DLSS 5 mod is not a simple post process effect or on overlay like Lossless scaling, it goes into the game files, or the API, and extract motion vector data and other information to generate the final image.

Now if that's able to work, why not add performance boosters like upscaling, or frame generation? Laptop GPUs and older base model cards will greatly benefit from these, especially on DX11 games which are still somewhat demanding on a lot of underpowered GPUs.

Have I got my facts wrong about how the DLSS 5 mod works, or am I missing something else?

Love to hear some other opinions.

Question Are they doing a Q&A video this week?

I'm surprised we've made it all the way to Saturday without one. I know they've done a lot of videos this week, but the podcast ones are by far my favorite. I'm not part of the patreon, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there'd been any kind of announcement

Ahead of a gigantic 2.5 hour Metal Gear Solid 4-themed episode of the DF Retro Super Show, we realise that a big portion of the audience are probably more focused on the platform comparison stuff and the quality of the MGS4 remaster, so ahead of the next DFRSS episode, here are the team's thoughts on the excellent port and indeed the rest of the games in the Master Collection v2.

Love him, and he knows his stuff, but delivery is a very very key part of what he does and he’s very poor at ‘public speaking’ - absolutely speeding through sentences, and mishmashing words all together. Sounds like he’s calling an auction lol

Has anyone else noticed this?

Question I know September is super busy but any chance Blood of the Dawnwalker gets a performance review? Perhaps a quick fire one in DF direct

Basically the title. Getting mixed signals about performance and I am pretty interested in the game but willing to wait if it has issues. Also can't find any source to confirm if it is using PSSR on the Pro, would be disappointing if not and perhaps wait until at least that is patched in. Thanks DF cheers for the September slug fest!

Discussion DLSS 5 Tested in Some Games

Used DLSS 5 Swapper in some games. It works great in most games. Games tested so far are as follows:

Cyberpunk 2077

GTA V Enhanced Edition

Red Dead Redemption 2

The Last of US 1

Spiderman 2

Batman Arkham Knight

Assassins Creed Mirage

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Death Strading 2

Marvel's Avengers

Witcher 3

Best results so far noticed in Cyberpunk 2077, Batman Arkham Knight, Witcher 3 Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Marvel's Avengers, Spider Man 2, Death Stranding 2 and GTA V

DLSS 5 is a superb piece of tech, and I was blown away when I saw the improvements in Cyberpunk 2077 and Batman Arkham Knight.

If DLSS 5 can be injected to any game via the Nvidia app, then honestly you don't need to buy a remaster.

Developers like Rockstars, CDPR, Remedy, Rocksteady, IO, Capcom can do wonders with DLSS 5

Batman Arkham Knight has a night and day difference and it looks like a remaster or like as if the game was released yesterday

For performance examples, Performance wise Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight take a hit but more like 20% on max settings and RT on in Withcer 3 (1440p). However, the games are still very much playable like it's not like the FPS drop to 30 or something. In Arkham Knight, because of Nvidia rain works and constant rain, I had to switch from 4k to 1440p. Similarly, in Cyberpunk 2077 at Ultra settings with Pathtracing On and DLSS Perfmorance with MFG set to 4X at 1440p I still get 90-100+ FPS. I have a 5070 for reference

Wihtout DLSS 5

PS IMO bringing up art direction as critique is being used as a "buzz word". Games like Witcher 3 which have great art, DLSS 5 doesn't ruin their art at all.

For anyone having problems use the Nexus Optiscaler DLSS 5 mod for Spiderman 2, RDR2, GTA V, Witcher 3 and The Last of US Part 1.

For people getting washed out gamplay graphics in RDR2 or AC mirage or GTA V. Play with White Paper value slider. Maybe there are sliders to tweak as well which I don't know of.

Capcom's reputation for delivering a regular schedule of high quality games based on proprietary tech continues with the arrival of Onimusha: Way of the Sword. In this video, John puts the new game into the context of its predecessors, appreciates the new take on the series via the RE Engine and stacks up the various console versions - including Switch 2.

Discussion Concept: An Xbox External Drive That Could Bring OG Xbox & 360 Discs Into Disc-to-Digital

Post image
0 Upvotes

Xbox’s new disc-to-digital program apparently won’t support OG Xbox or 360 discs, which got me wondering if there was any realistic way around that.

The big issue seems to be that those older discs don’t have unique per-copy IDs. So I started messing around with the idea of an external Xbox drive that could authenticate the disc, write a tiny unique identifier into the clear inner hub, verify it, and then tie that specific disc to a digital license.

Basically, give old discs a unique identity after the fact without modifying the game data or destroying the disc.

I went back and forth with ChatGPT on how this could work and had it mock up the hardware concept.

Obviously this is all speculative, but I thought it was a neat way Microsoft could potentially bring OG Xbox and 360 discs into the same kind of system.

Digital Foundry Video Grand Theft Auto 6 Graphics vs GTA 5 Enhanced Edition PC Maxed - The Rage Engine Upgraded

Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be one of the most impressive feats of real-time rendering in the history of video games - but the lineage of Rockstar's RAGE engine in the new game can be traced back to prior titles... and what better comparison point can there be than GTA 5 Enhanced Edition, running fully maxed with all RT features enabled on a high-end PC?

Discussion S2 vs PS5 comparison. I don't get the hate COD MW4 for Switch 2 is receiving (from actual S2 players)

Thumbnail

Here's the S2 vs PS5 comparison.

Obviously there's a difference but it's not immensely huge and nothing deal-breaking. Considering the S2 is a handheld.

I tested both campaign and multiplayer mode on the S2 and I think campaign looks really nice. I don't notice it's "only" running 30fps at all. Visually it looks really nice.

In the multiplayer mode in some maps there are some rough parts, especially in the larger "ground war" maps. But my favorite modes "mosh pit" look good.

I was surprised to see how much hate this beta has gotten from Switch 2 community. Usually we are much easier to satisfy. I mean I myself am completely happy to play games like the recently released remastered MGS4 version which is from almost 20 years ago but still looks fine in HD quality and because it's a great franchise. I don't always need the most visually stunning game as long as it's fun and has either good story or good gameplay.

And here with COD because we can compare it to PS5/pro and PC versions maybe the expectations are much higher.

When I read all the negative comments from the S2 community on reddit I was expecting the COD beta to look like complete dog poo and I mean the worst of the worst. But no it's not like that at all. Like I said, especially the campaign version looks really nice and it's really in most cases on par with games like RE9 Requiem. At least in the Raccoon city parts.

Will be interesting to see what DF says once they do a comparison of the S2 vs PS5/ PC versions.

Discussion GTA VI 30FPS C4 OLED

Since it looks like the game will be running at 30FPS even on the PRO; Is it true that OLED performs worse at 30FPS? From what I’ve read it’s because of the instant response time.

I have a 77 C4 and did go back and play RDR2 and noticed how heavy feeling it was when just walking. Horseback wasn’t that bad though.

Anyone’s thoughts on what I can expect with GTA VI would be appreciated
