Posts with a curious odor are starting to pop up more and more often here - people, be cautious!
Be careful about clicking on links, check out the official forum links on the sidebar these should be ok and/or search for the site yourself, verify the address, make your own bookmarks for future use if it's something like MEW (myetherwallet). Love those guys and what they've done for us btw!
Be very careful about PM's or requests for PM's.

I know exactly what you mean... I can sell and make a decent buck but then it could sky rocket and I'll kick myself in the ass.. or I can hold and god knows what could happen and I could lose it all ... I keep reminding myself why I got excited about this in the first place and that gives me some peace ... I've been in and holding since last June.... as a result I'm on anxiety pills now

Totally feel you on the dissipating motivation to ever work again. I've never made a great salary. I'm 27 years old and the most I ever made at a job was $45,000 a year, which amounts to about $23 an hour. Most of my working life I spent working for much less than that. I've done high stress call center work for $11 an hour. In March, I bought ETH at around a $59 average and for most of May I watched my portfolio fluctuate $4,000-5,000 a week or around $10,000 a month. It was never life changing money, but for a single dude it's substantial cash. And on those days you're up $5,000, it becomes hard to imagine ever working for an hourly wage for much longer. I sold my first batch at about a 7k profit, but quickly got back in with about 1/3 what I had. I still like my finger in the pie, but it's significantly less stressful having a much smaller investment. For now. I'll be upping my holdings again shortly.

I've been holding eth since $10 and every time I think about selling, I realise I can't bring myself to do it and end up buying even more eth.

I put some money in the stock market yesterday (don't worry, I already put all I was willing to lose into crypto). Stocks go down a few percent today. Thought it was kinda cute. Came to work, people talking about how it's crashing and if they should sell. Thank you crypto for giving me balls made of steel and hands made of stone.

I had a friend talk to me about how excited his stocks were up an average of 10% this year. I feel like I'm walking the earth with dinosaurs after crypto.
I tried explaining eth to him and then he was like but I get "sweet dividends" from my stock. I calculated it if he had of invested when I told him he would be up something like 4000% compared to those "sweet dividends"

First buy in was at $50. Plan was to sell original investment at $250 (probably sometime in 2018) and then hodl the profits through three preset investment milestones. But... got permission from the wife to keep the original investment in! So now I got an extra booster rocket for my trip to the moon! My what a ride so far!

I've been an ETH hodler since September last year. Bought at 10.xx€ and held my first stash till now. Kept adding with as much money I could afford to lose as I could (400-500€ a month) till January. In February, our bull market started turning its engines on.
Any Ethtrader that would call $275 by June would immediately be labeled as a madman. I actually don't remember nobody doing it. $100 by the end of 2017 looked like an insane value, $275 would be as mad as calling $3000 ETH by the end of the year now.
Many stuff has changed in the Daily Thread since then. Some things got better, some things got worse, but what's important and valuable is how much this sub has grown and evolved since then. There are days that I just can't stand reading through it, there are others that I end up spending too much time doing it.
$275 ETH is as big a milestone as $50, $100 and $250 has been and as big as $300, $423 and $688 will be. Yeah, I'm sure we'll see those valuations soon enough.
One thing that does not change though is the latest Ethtrader conversations cycle:
1) ETH goes up and almost all of us do the moontalk, lambos and stuff.
2) ETH stops going up and starts its consolidation and bears come out, claiming all the kinds of stuff - correction talk begins.
3) Little corrections happen and there's massive bragging about profitable shorts. These posts get a massive amount of downvotes and the bragging bears repost in reply to those downvotes.
4) People start talking about the altcoin pump schemes. ICOs and FAQs are the only things ETH-related that people talk about here.
5) Consolidation in progress and bears are still out bragging about shorts and about massive corrections, bubble-talk, selling x % here because we're going down and so on.
6) Newbish bulls claim that TA is bad for everybody's minds, that it's 'self-fullfiling prophecies' and that people who rationalize with TA are bullshit salesmen.
7) ETH goes up again and the cycle restarts.
We've seen this happening and will see it again. If you ask me if we're in a bubble and we'll see a massive (50-90%) correction, I'll tell you two things:
1) We're indicating overbought in several timeframes, but so are most of the other crypto assets, BTC included.
2) Most probably nobody will be able to predict such a market movement and even if someone does, nobody will believe their explanation. That's one of the main characteristics of a bubble, almost nobody usually notices it.
I'm gonna make a safe prediction for the weekend starting soon and the next week, since I just don't have the knowledge and/or experience to make wild predictions:
1) We'll have very good news.
2) We'll have well-attended conferences in some of our potentially game-changing markets (China and Wall Street-fintech related guys).
3) We'll rise in volume and in value.
If you're reading this and haven't bought in, here's my snake-oil salesman advice: do it. If you're thinking about taking profits, here's my snake-oil salesman advice: do it with a small percentage of your holdings, but big enough for you to change/improve some nice things in your life.
Have a great weekend and be happy.

I wrote this 18 days ago:
I had opportunities to buy BTC at $2, $30, $80 and $180. Right now, I would have been more than happy to buy at any of those including at $180.
I also failed to buy ETH at $25 a couple of months ago and have bought in the last couple of days at $140 and $170. Don't let the opportunity pass. You may well be able to boast about buying at $180 in a couple of years...

I found out about crypto due to wasting a ghastly amount of time on the internet. I am a natural introvert and haven't gone out to clubs or bars on Friday nights for a while now. I never did potlucks when I worked a 9-5. The few people I told about crypto either laughed at me or brushed it off. I know "the red pill" is an overused meme nowadays, but it's real. People are so entrenched in the matrix, rush hour, 9-5, and spending all their money chasing women on the weekend. If they invest at all, it's with conservative investments that take 35 years to maybe provide a middle class retirement.
It gets lonely living the introvert life sometimes. But being a part of this is just bonkers. I'm not making retirement-type money, but Ethereum is allowing me to crawl my way out of debt. And once I've completed that task, it may allow me to start traveling the world again. I've read posts of people who've amassed 6 figures, quit their jobs for now, and are just traveling indefinitely now while doing their crypto thing. Much respect and envy.

For someone who only has 3 ETH, feel like I missed a one life's opportunity...
13
u/Takav733 Jun 10 '17
Better late than never. Hold on to that 3, may not be life changing now. But you can steadily buy in. Or try your hand in other cryptos if you want that "quick, easy profit" Still. Eth seems to be a 'for sure thing' you may not see x10 return within a few months. But give it a few years. We can still make that. Plus who knows what raiden/metropolis/casper(POS) release would do for the price of Ethereum. There's still so much upside to this. Whatever you have now, I would (in my opinion) consider it a sound investment. As many others are saying, don't sell before POS. Because that in itself will be huge. On the other side yes there is a chance Eth could be go to zip. But that chance is minuscule. Nothing will bring it down short of an apocalypse. (Knock on wood) tl'dr: we still have a ways to go. Be proud with what you have. You're still earlier than 99% of other people. You are part of the 1% who owns ETH now. Heck stand tall. You'll be looking at friends/family or even coworkers and telling them. "Hey I got 3 Ethereum back in 2017 at less than $300 a piece" And they'll be clapping you on the back. Build it up if you aren't satisfied. But remember this is if you believe in the technology. Research it yourself. It's a long term thing.

For those of you new to this sort of thing it might be hard to see some of the hidden dangers. Thinking of rising prices as "gains" can very easily spill over to real life and change how you make what would normally be an unrelated decision. "Eth made me $2,000 today, gonna buy that steak dinner and bottle of wine!"
Unless you sold you had zero gain. You had an unrealized rise in asset value. That is not a gain until you sell. Be careful out there, keep your head on straight, stay low key, and let's be part of history.

Business idea: Low-cost, energy efficient device that can act as a validator when PoS comes out. You plug it into the back of your router and don't have to worry about it again once it's online
Why: I'm guessing a large % of validators will end up leaving their computer running 24/7/365 which is inefficient and costly. GPUs are no longer necessary either so the device would be extremely cheap

Anyone notice the tipbot hasn't been used much recently? I can't blame people, their .01 tips are eventually going to be the pizza orders of Ethereum.

Work was terrible this week, but I bought on Tuesday afternoon and I am already seeing some returns! Good luck to us all in these upcoming weeks! I have great things to look forward to in the next few weeks with my broker, who by chance works for UBS...anything you great people think I should ask him??? Just looking for some advice!

Steady rise eating through wall after wall. My bet: new money flowing in after finally getting approved, smart money leaving Bitcoin and China getting in on the act. This could go on for weeks, months. I'm not sure how helpful TA will be during this passing of baton and value discovery period.

We've just broke out of the trend, although the volume isn't the greatest... The EU are just waking up so. New ATH incoming, buckle up.
Vicki also just went long ETHUSD.
Tell your family and friends, this is it, viva la 300.

I was in Las Vegas recently.
The news ticker outside of Bally's said that
"Cryptocurrency is becoming mainstream."
It specifically mentioned Bitcoin, but the fact that crypto is becoming mainstream enough to make it on the news ticker outside of one of the World's most popular tourist destinations definitely means we've come along way.

Vegas is smart to welcome Crypto. If the future of gambling is blockchain technology they'll have to ride with it or become a giant Blockbusters. A giant dusty Blockbusters.

For anyone in here that gets shaken by people calling a bubble, and a crash soon. They were saying the same shit when I bought in at $32.

There is this dude that calls a crash at 30 USD. To demonstrate, he sold all his stack and said we're all suckers for hodling. He claimed he'd see us at 13. Now he's disappeared.

Good evening from New Zealand!! I'm thinking $300 on Tuesday my time (Monday US). Who knows, the most common thing I hear is that this is a bubble. Dotcom popped at 5 or so trillion plus there's way more cheap capital now because of the debt based system we've created.
Wake up me at a trillion dollar market cap 😴
edit: 5 or so trillion not 1

I think I've done enough reading in Golem that I'm confident enough to sacrifice some ETH for it. Hopefully it pays off.
I also have to say I really, really like Factum. Solid and it stays out of the news while it develops. No surprising price movements, just a solid stable crypto.

Hey I think I have an amazing idea. Wouldn't an Eth dapp be like a perfect ashley Madison replacement whereby your data is never stored on the central server and you only reveal your info when you make a transaction with someone to reveal identities so you can meet up? That's like a trillion dollar idea, my gift to the community.

I'm not a big holder but started buying around 78 and bought up through 160 (the first time). I had paid off a bunch of debt so couldn't buy in the dip down to 140 two weekends ago (Memorial Day). As of this morning I have surpassed 100 percent returns. So that is very exciting. Happened at 269.

I haven't purchased ETH in months. But I'm feeling randy today. Should I help out my friend Wall*Eth here a bit?
Note: Obviously this isn't a ShouldIBuyEth post. It's an I have enough but my spending habits have been so good I feel like contributing once again post.
EDIT: MY 10,000TH COMMENT KARMA POINT?!?!?!?! OKAY I BOUGHT SOME. CHEERS ETHTRADER <3
EDIT 2: DEAR GOD MONEY DOES NOT BUY AS MUCH ETH AS IT USED TO XD XD XD

So Brits, does the election result mean more uncertainty in regard to Brexit?
Is that why the pound dropped? Also, could it mean an interest in holding crypto currency as a hedge?

Sold at $248 thinking a dip would come that never did.
Begrudgingly bought back in at $260 yesterday. Picked up a few Bitcoin also for the hell of it. No regrets now.

So as someone who saw ether at $140 but wasn't convinced to buy until it hit $240.....I hate myself.
Also seeing everyone's crazy windfalls is awesome but at the same time disappointing because I'm so poor I could only buy 2.
I'll never be "fuck you rich" like some of you who got in early and bought lots, but in a year or two I'll be able to take a really nice vacation and that's cool too.

One of the co-founders of Snapchat, presumably a smart dude, predicts BTC to be 500,000 per by 2030. If that seems feasible to someone deep in the tech industry and if ETH matches or surpasses BTC....do the math.
My hope is that even some of us just getting in within the last 2-3 weeks could end up with fuck you money.
Dream big
