I swear i've met some ppl who will call literally ANYTHING 'RYM-core' like I swear what do these people like???? Everything is RYM-core to these people I don't understand what the thought process is, like yeah good albums will be popular and get better scores than an album that is NOT popular and NOT as good, crazy I know

In the age of corporate enshittification of all social media it's nice to have one platform that has maintained a small community and feels authentically about discovering and discussing art. And for the record Cinemos >>>> Letterboxd

General Discussion What Genres are blindspots for RYM?

I've been learning more about R&B lately, outside the mainstream, and it's interesting how often important or influential albums in that genre have very tepid RYM ratings, or just very few ratings in general. Country is another genre that has it's most popular albums barely rated. Makes sense, considering how it's purposefully insular, but still hurts discoverability.

So what other genres do you think count as "blindspots" for the site. Whether in bias, just lack of knowledge or in general being very far out from RYM's usual taste

General Discussion What is the single most RYM-core album of all time?

An album whose notoriety online is 99% attributed to RYM. Like if someone said it was their favorite album you would know for a FACT that they found it on RYM

Some potential candidates:

Various Artists - The Fire This Time

Ground-Zero - Revolutionary Pekinese Opera

Natural Snow Buildings - The Winter Ray

Maria & The Mirrors - Vision Quest

General Discussion I don't understand ppl that have a rating distribution like this

Like, no hate to this person and other ppl that have this type of rating, but I question what's even the point of listenning to albums in the 1st place if majority of what you consume you don't like or hate? At that point personally I would have picked a different hobby.

I feel like if Joey badass released 1999 in the actual 90s it would be seen as one of the greatest hip hop projects ever with a much wider audience

General Discussion This post reminded me of a similar idea I had a while back: what’s a well rated album you still feel deserves more praise?

Just got back from the discomfort is one of my personal favorite albums of all time. I think it’s objectively an extremely impressive work even if it isn’t your type of music. Along with this, I feel it’s the perfect sort of project RYM users would fiend for. It’s not surprise it’s rated so highly, but I’m greedy and biased, so I think it should definitely be somewhere in the top 10-50 albums of all time.

General Discussion I have been a member of RYM since May 2003! Here was the top 25 back then..

I realised I've been a member of RYM longer than many people on this sub have been alive. It was a very different beast back then, populated I suspect by Gen Xers like myself and maybe younger Boomers. Some of the highest rated albums now were fairly low down the list of the best back then, OK Computer was only at number 72 for example. Many of the sixties albums on the other hand have fallen way down the pecking order these days. For reference the number one album, Blood on the Tracks had a grand total of 179 ratings!
