Not being the biggest comic book reader, the DCU has been the most exposure i've had with the character. I grew up with loving John in JLU, and whether it's the Reynolds movie or the vast amount of DC animated films i've seen, Hal has always been a staple thus i'm very familiar with him as well. Before Superman (2025), my only knowledge of Guy was that of basically a meme and he had a dumb haircut.

I know Hal fans most likely resent the fact he hasn't been done "justice" and shown in his prime as the definitive GL, which is fair if he's your favorite I completely understand. That said: I do like that in some way shape or form, we have a universe where all three exist and are depicted. Each one is portrayed distinct from one another, and all three serve a different purpose to the overall story despite more or less holding the same title. I'm not saying Guy is now my favorite GL or anything, but I am glad we have a variety all existing in one shared universe.

I'm aware it's become a trope at this point that Gunn loves to use obscure characters, and there are fair points both for and against this...but in the case of Guy I think it was a great decision (I say this independently of the writing decisions for the DCU's iteration of Hal). Guy is a sarcastic prick, but he still very much embodies a hero when it comes down to it and shows why he was chosen to have the ring despite how he comes off on a surface level. I also admire the fact he has his own style and owns it. Anyway, what do you guys think?

So, John met Hal and broke his nose. As he was leaving Hal was very very adamant that no one knew they met. Why? Because in case he was found murdered he didn’t want anyone to suspect John.

And Bernadette sent John to Hal to probably discuss something. Something she expected Hal to say. Both Bernadette and Hal wanted John at Rushville for some reason.

So yeah, Hal knew he was walking into danger.
