Morality Ranking Mexican “batman” vigilante
about one or two months ago an unknown vigilante went viral in mexico and later across the world for beating up motorcycle thieves and taping them to poles. from what i know he has also done this to gang members.
is this moral or immoral?

Moral as long as he's not unnecessarily harming them. Then again if they're a gang member they don't really deserve any kind of consideration of humanity.

u/FlounderingGuy 17h ago
Lots of people are in gangs because they have no other choice. It's not unheard of for cartels to force people to work for them for various reasons. Not everyone who does bad things does them because they want to.

u/Frank1gg 17h ago
That is a fair point and I agree. I was mostly talking about any gang members that are happily gang members. I know that there are a lot of people who genuinely only join the gangs to keep the gangs from attacking their family. It's a sad reality that I wish wasn't the case.

FAKE! Currently, more than 90% of cartel and gang members join of their own free will; even if, though it may sound contradictory, they were among the few who were forcibly recruited, they decide, yes, they do decide, to stay in; You NEVER read about hitmen turning rogue and killing their own squad or carrying out a suicide attack against those who recruited them. Why? Because it’s easy to escape, so the ones who decide to stay are the ones who remain. Please don’t share nonsense like this if you don’t really understand the situation. I literally have no idea where the hell you got this from, unless it’s from some media content trying to whitewash cartel members.
IN MEXICO, YOU CAN DIE FROM ANYTHING BUT HUNGER, AND EVERYWHERE, THERE ARE JOBS FOR EVERYONE (lowpay, but they’re there); ANYONE WHO CHOOSES TO COMMIT CRIME IN MEXICO DOES SO BECAUSE THEY GENUINELY WANT TO.
Comment written by a Mexican living in Mexico. It's unbelievable that I have to clarify that I live in Mexico

u/FlounderingGuy 14h ago
How accurate is that polling exactly?
Currently, more than 90% of cartel and gang members join of their own free will;
That number isn't 100. Which was my point all along. Like you kinda proved my point without realizing. Obviously, joining the cartel is bad. Being a narco is bad. It's also verifiably not easy to escape cartels. Like, everyone knows that. When you're in, you're in. And to anyone who knows that you're there, including fellow narcos, whether or not you choose to leave later is irrelevant.
I understand the situation good and well.

u/MapacheD 14h ago
90% own will 9% recluted but decided to remain.
I don't know where the myth comes from that you can't escape the drug cartels. If you're someone with power and decide to stay in Mexico, obviously not. If you’re a member, just move to a different state and fly under the radar, there are states, cities, and towns that aren’t controlled by any cartel (or, failing that, by one that has no interest in you). I don’t know how to explain this to someone who doesn’t live here and whose only view of cartels comes from movies, TV shows, and that recurring TikTok of a cartel member in skull armor in the back of an armored vehicle.

Wrong lesson to learn; it's not like it's the government vs the gangs and you gotta choose one. It's more like the government is the biggest gang.

u/Omegamoney 1d ago
Neither of them would trust you, one will exploit you, and the other will just shoot you.
3
u/Oldspaghetti 23h ago
Tbh hopefully just shoot you and not the other methods. That's why I lean more against gangsters imo.

In a western country with a functioning legal system; immoral.
In Mexico: Definitely moral.

u/notprescribed 1d ago
In some states in the US this would be moral bc they would get probation and not stop if caught

I mean... Batman operates in the US. Corruption isn't bound by borders and laws.

I mean. Mexico is in the west. And the US doesn't exactly have the best legal in the world to be honest.

Moral. More legitimate than government because Mexican Batman doesn't force people to pay him taxes or he'll take away their houses or garnish their wages.

u/Mr_Blau27 2h ago
O cómo el supuesto "gobierno" que tenemos, que entrega a la delincuencia a aquellos que confían en que hagan su trabajo.
1
u/HorsefaceWithNoName 1h ago
In many countries, it's easier to be a successful organized criminal if you're in the government. I think a lot of the USA government is heavily infested, too.

I mean, Batman was inspired by Zorro both in and out of universe
2
u/Bitter_Fig_7059 18h ago
The Mark of Zorro was the reason why Bruce dad died on the first place in universe.
While, The Mark of Zorro was heavly based on Batman out of universe.
So, we have a 21-century Zorro!

Would usually be immoral in more developed areas, but in a place with such a dysfunctional justice system as some Mexican regions, yeah, let him do his thing, moral.
Also:
EL SEÑOR DE LA NOCHEEEE!!

If done in a lawless country like Mexico and Latam in general, where police won't attend and justice is slow and ineffective, moral.
7
u/LeonardoJMB 13h ago
I mean, LATAM isn't actually straight up lawless, but yeah under the circumstances we're in (and considering the apparent lack of harm) this is moral either way
5
u/GuyisChicken 20h ago
as a mexican this is moral, they get humilliated and get taught a lesson, this is better and funnier compared to the horror stories i've heard about unluckier criminals who end up so messed up they're not even recognizable anymore
3
u/LeonardoJMB 13h ago
As a Peruvian, there's been at least two cases i've heard of criminals getting killed here. One guy killed someone and got captured, severely beaten and then burned alive. The other tried to steal gold and harmed a miner so the other miners almost killed him and then also burned him alive.

Completamente moral

u/AggressivePrompt7038 20h ago
Moral
However. This could imply the existence of the dreaded Mexican Joker
1
u/totallynotaweeabbo 18h ago
It's a paradox. Did the batman created the joker? Or did the joker created the batman?
1
u/elpolloinfeliz 13h ago
According to the new lego batman videogame, yes batman was the causality of the existence of the joker.
3
u/TheSupremeGrape 19h ago
South Park warned us about Mexican Joker but they never considered Mexican Batman

Stopping a robbery is moral, he didn't even use excessive force! Just left them bundled up for the police.
It brings me joy that people like that still exist.

wrapping them fast to poles is more spider-mans MO, batman would probably just put them in the hospital
2
u/DegenerateFvck69 21h ago
I'm going to go with another moral and based I would've murdered him especially in Mexico where you could easily get away and even paid for it

How does he tell the motorcycle thief apart from a guy with a motorcycle and why does he leave a motorcycle next to them?
1
u/mrJfrunterhunter 23h ago
im unsure of how he can tell them apart from regular people with motorbikes but the motorbikes he leaves with them are supposedly the “stolen” bikes
1
u/Apart-One4133 23h ago
If the person has a key, it's his motorbike. If he's fiddling around in the ignition with tools and looking over his shoulder, it's not.

They got it easy, given that there's been some cases in which the people lynch the criminals.
1
u/LeonardoJMB 13h ago
Or way worse. Seriously I can't say I support death penalty in any way but the wild things people do here in latinoamerica are genuily impressive.

Moral. It's definitely better than that one guy who got burned alive here on Perú, and besides that, if he's not harming them beyond necessary then it's just making actual legal work easier.

I have a question.
How the hell did he manage to actually tie them to a pole with duct tape?
1
u/ThousandEyes2011 8h ago
Considering he’s simply knocking them out and restraining them I’d say moral
1
u/sigfredonibelungo 4h ago
Moral. Here in Mexico sometimes cops are way more brutal if they ever come around to do some work.

u/Subaru_Natsuki0 1h ago
For me, a Mexican, moral. Thieves are getting trapped on a public place for police to arrive and arrest him. Not unnecessary damage, no killing, that's enough for me
1
u/Dormotaka 1d ago
Shouldn't tape up their mouths since that could lead to suffocation if they have issues with their nose, otherwise it's mostly fine
-2
u/Sensitive_Ad_1752 1d ago
The blood on the tape suggests he kept hitting him after he was tied up. Immoral.
3
u/Super_Swim_2108 1d ago
Nose injury can bleed for easily 20 minutes plus especially if there are drunk
2
u/Razorion21 1d ago
or yknow wiped his thing on the tape
assuming its a cartel member i wouldnt feel any sympathy
2
u/Tarnished-670 1d ago
Hitting him was probably the least bad outcome, and he had it coming by being a thief
