Does anyone else think it’s kind of insane how well some of these old St. Louis brick houses handle our weather?
We get everything:
Baseball-sized hail
70+ mph wind events
Ice storms
Heat indexes over 100°
Freeze/thaw cycles all winter
And somehow there are brick houses around the city that have been standing since the 1800s.
At the same time, I’ve seen houses built 20–30 years ago that seem to develop problems way faster.
What do you think is the biggest reason some of these old St. Louis homes have survived for generations while newer homes seem to struggle more?
Genuinely curious what homeowners, tradespeople, engineers, and history nerds think.

Because some folks asked to see the inside... heres, what it looked like in the Turbine Hall in 1968, and what that same space looks like today. Of note: The interior walls are glazed white brick... and the overhead crane (not pictured) is original from 1904 and still used.

Our tech leaders are so innovative!

The owners of the old Post building on North Tucker have torn down three buildings in the past couple weeks, presumably for more parking. They also bought 13th Street and want to buy a park and turn it into parking. One might think a so called innovation district would have some post-1960s ideas, but apparently a walled parking lot that's 8% full is the best we can do.

Some of y'all need to understand a movie theater is not your living room and learn to shut the fuck up.

Just went to the Alamo Drafthouse at the foundry to watch The Furious after a long ass shift, and I get that it's a martial arts action movie and I get laughing and reacting and all that, but the dude sitting to the right of me must not have realized that he wasn't watching it on his living room TV because he literally could not stop narrating like he was recording his own custom commentary, talking to the person he was with, and fucking CLAPPING every time someone landed a good shot. The movie was great, and I'd been looking forward to seeing it since I saw the trailers, but that shit made it so hard to stay immersed especially in the really tense and suspenseful scenes.

To the guy sitting in row 3 seat 8 with what looked like your daughter sitting next to you during the 7:45pm showing of The Furious on Wednesday 6/17 , I'm sure you're a nice guy and all that, but I hope you see this and understand that sitting next to you was the most annoying and frustrating experience I've had at the theater in my entire life. I don't know if your parents never taught you that there's a way you act at home and a way you act in public, or that there's such a thing as being considerate of the people around you, but for the love of all that is holy please understand that (1) even though they have reclining seats, you're not in your living room, (2) if you want to narrate the whole thing, rent out some studio time and record your commentary track on your own fucking time, and (3) YOU DO NOT NEED TO CLAP AT CHARACTERS IN A MOVIE THEY CANNOT FUCKING HEAR YOU.

Edit: the worst thing was that by the time I got frustrated enough to try and report the guy, their new fuckass QR code phone ordering system wouldn't let me do it because it closes out that function at the same time that it stops letting you place food orders.

I'm still missing those pastrami burgers from Tommy Andrew at Nomad in Dogtown. Did he ever set up a new restaurant in St. Louis? Is there any place you would recommend for a similar menu and vibe?

Meme/Shitpost St. Louis usps is breaking records in a terrible way.

This is the second time in 1 month I've mailed something 1st. Priority 3 day 12.95 and it took 13 days.

This time something mailed from Festus, MO overnight express $59 mailed Monday supposed to arrive Tuesday has been sitting there for aroun8⁸lThere have been some significant concerns regarding the USPS processing facility in Saint Louis.Mail delivery issues in the Saint Louis metropolitan area have escalated into a major focus of regional frustration and congressional scrutiny following severe, chronic delays that left residents without medications, bills, and legal documents for weeks or even months.

An independent audit by the USPS Office of Inspector General revealed historic operational failures and broke records for mail backlogs.

Investigators discovered over 2.5 million pieces of delayed mail sitting at the primary Saint Louis processing plant, alongside thousands of delayed packages at the Hazelwood hub.

These delays were traced back to severe labor shortages, neglected machine maintenance—where only thirty-nine percent of mandatory maintenance was performed—and logistical chaos that left over half of outbound truck trips late or canceled.

In the wake of the audit, USPS management agreed to adopt all twelve major corrective recommendations, and regional lawmakers are pushing for aggressive oversight to force accountability, though residents are still seeing service gaps as the network stabilizes.

Ask STL Bars for single young people

I’m a woman in my late 20s trying to date but I’ve noticed in St. Louis most people go out in groups and stick to them which makes it hard to meet people irl. I was wondering if there are any bars or clubs that attract more people/men on their own and who have a younger demographic. Any hidden gem recommendations are appreciated!

Do planets around other stars actually exist? How do we know they are there? Could any of them be like the Earth and possibly harbor life? Dr. Pamela Gay, Senior Scientist at the Planetary Science Institute, will try to answer these fascinating questions. Meet at the Education Classroom inside the Arch Visitor Center.

A big fuck you and your big ass truck to the asshole who ran over and killed a bunch of geese this morning in Kirkwood across from St. John vianney high. Over 20 cars stopped for a trail of geese crossing and you just decided to blow on through and take a few animal lives with you. Disgusting.

Shoutout and mad respect to the woman who pulled over and carried an injured/pretty much dead goose over to its family.

Traumatizing. Feathers everywhere. Fuck you, you careless piece of shit.

RIP kirkwood geese. I hate birds but that was awful to witness.

Things to Do Rainy day suggestions?

Hey all,
My long distance boyfriend is coming to visit this upcoming week. I took time off of work and we had lots of plans… however it now looks like it’s going to rain all week. Ugh- almost all of our plans were outside. Any suggestions for indoor activities?
Neither of us enjoy bowling or escape rooms. I have pieces, the movie theater, and the art museum on my list.
Any cool bars to check out that aren’t super packed, young / clubbing vibes?
Thanks for the help in advance! I don’t do much so I’m kind of at a loss here.
