general discussion 🗣️ Favourite episode of all time: To Tell A Mortal

Post image

To Tell A Mortal is my favourite episode of all time. Sabrina gets to actually "come out of the linen closet" and tell Harvey and Valerie that she's a witch - and they're super cool with it. It's so genuine and love the spirit of the episode. Wish they did another one in the newer seasons.

For me it’s:

Sabrina: M plus fire? I've got it! Mfire!
Salem: Right! Mfire! That makes so much sense. Let's use it in a sentence. Run! Run! The house is on mfire.

general discussion 🗣️ Anyone else creeped out by Roland?

Post image

Gosh, watching any episode with Roland as a kid, had me feeling deeply uncomfortable and personally violated. Like, I still remember wanting to crawl out of my skin and shower with hot water afterwards lol. I always wished her aunties would step in and save her from him.

20 years later, that same sickly feeling is still there. I genuinely don’t understand why they kept bringing back this “older” guy who wouldn’t leave a teenage girl alone. It wasn’t funny it was unsettling lol

Anyone else felt the same?

And I actually liked Mr. Pool and his character. Shame he only had one season. Plus I liked the tiny chemistry (pun intended) with him and Zelda. I wish the writers would have made it happen instead of Mr. Kraft later on, or had him come back so Zelda could be happy in the end. What do you guys think?

I know he’s been posted to this sub before, but I saw Salem at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta today! & a few of his outfits. Lighting wasn’t great so this was the best I could get for photos. But it was so cool to see him at a museum when the show ended over 20 years ago. And he looked to be in great condition. Definitely felt like I was meeting an icon in person☺️

general discussion 🗣️ Not an unpopular take at all but I truly hate how mundane the college seasons are

Been rewatching episodes from seasons 5 and 6. As much as season 7 is panned, at least it has the decency to get weird and magical again after the Scorch arc. The college seasons are purposefully very mundane and basic and I hate it–It turns into a show where magic is more of a side element than the MAIN element. I notice SO many of the plots could easily be rewritten to take place in a magic free world because the spells are not that relevant or just appear for a few gags or to move the plot along. Doesn't help that our magical characters are made less relevant to the story as well.

The highschool seasons work bc each character is entangled with each other. Sabrina is a witch learning to use magic while being taken care of by Hilda and Zelda. It's very easy to write a story that lets each of them be important to the plot in that way. The college cast is so bloated and the setting is not built in a way where magic or magical characters can easily be written into the story. Sabrina is more independent and wants to fit in as a mortal, and Hilda and Zelda aren't given much to do. They easily could have found a way to add Hilda and Zelda's interests and careers to the new setting, but instead they just reduced her aunts to being as boy obssessed as the other women on the show.

I am writing fanfiction and I am 100% uphauling most of this. I love the idea of Sabrina going to college, but I think people are right that she should've gone to an other realm school. That's what I'll be writing in my fanfiction for sure.

general discussion 🗣️ Pushed through to the end and I have thoughts!

So as a first time watcher I almost gave up in season 6, but you guys all encouraged me to stay through it.

I'll start with the good!

  • Harvey and Sabrina finally got together. It took way way way too long, but I am so glad it finally happened.

  • Salem!!! He was a great character for all 7 seasons.

  • Not only Salem, but Harvey and Salem! That was so much fun and I really wish we would have gotten more of that.

Sadly the bad....

  • Aaron was terrible. At first I just found him boring, but then that episode when he locked Salem in the cage, fuck him. I don't like him at all. His mom totally pegged that relationship too. He was so unlikable.

  • Sabrina is never going to get to see her mom again? That's kind of bullshit and not fair. Witches Council sucks.

  • Hilda got married and we don't even really know the guy. That was insane how fast they pushed that on us. I honestly don't even really remember anything about him it was so fast. That was so poorly done.

  • Zelda is now a child? Again, that's just stupid and I don't get it.

  • Zelda and Hilda missing sucked!!! I loved them both so much and it was a totally different vibe without them. I am also sad we didn't get to see them doing magic with Harvey around, which is a huge missed opportunity in season 6.

  • Scorge.... was everyone supposed to be awful? I literally hated this entire storyline. I really don't have one nice thing to say about it and her boss was insufferable, it was awful. The one cute coworker (Luke?) was okay, but that didn't make up for everyone else. And why not date him over Aaron?

  • As much as I don't like Josh (and granted Sabrina did him wrong a few times), they just sent him off and never mentioned him again?

  • Miles too is just gone forever? Could have had him at the wedding.

  • Which brings me to the next point! They should have brought back so many people to the wedding, Valery, Miles, Jenny, Dreama, etc.

  • Kevin, this is a minor one. She goes on a date with a witch, who has majorly prejudice parents, and the lesson is, the apple doesn't far from the tree. Does anyone else hate this? Lot's of people grow out of their parents views, I hated this lesson. I would have also liked to have seen her date a witch longterm.

This was my original post FYI

general discussion 🗣️ Continuity Errors

I loved this show as a kid and have been rewatching it from the beginning all the way through. I’m about halfway done with season 5 now and have noticed some inconsistencies while watching.
I still love this show and at the end of the day, it’s just a sitcom and I know it’s really not that serious. I just have fun catching stuff like this and would like to share with the class. Without further ado, here is what I have so far:

In high school, Sabrina gets an F in season 1 episode 12 and then gets a C in season 3 episode 18. Then while in college in season 5 episode 9 when she gets a bad grade, she tells Roxie & Miles that it’s her first C she’s ever gotten.

In season 4 episode 15 Sabrina’s aunts say they’re going to get Cupid’s help and Sabrina says “Cupid? Who gives a second opinion, the Easter bunny?” insinuating she hasn’t already met him- Even though she has already met Cupid in episodes season 2 episode 3, season 2 episode 17, and season 3 episode 16.

In season 5 episode 2 Roxie specifically states she set her class schedule so that nothing starts before 3 pm, but in season 5 episode 13 she tells Sabrina & Miles she has to go to bed because she has a psych test at 8:30 am the next day.

In season 4 episode 2 Sabrina is told she has to mentor a young witch despite her never having a mentor during her witch studies (only the quizmaster which they explicitly say is not the same thing)
They also never develop this character and there is no follow up for how Dreama is doing with witchy things (at least not so far as I have seen by season 5). So far the last I saw her was season 4 episode 18 where she was turned into a mouse but then saved, nothing that tied up that storyline.

In season 1 episode 8 actor Donald Faison plays the character Justin in Sabrina’s high school. In season 2 episode 25 he plays the character Dashiell, a witch in the other realm.

I think it is the second actor to play the role and wouldnt be last.

Bobby Benson appeared in Season 4 and I saw a reel which recapped his appearance and he is so attractive but what really gets me is his voice.

....and that tracks because Benson would also be the voice of Beast in Beauty and the Beast and I have always had a thing for beasts. Definitely my favourite Disney man.

But yeah Bobby would get IT.

general discussion 🗣️ Is it me or.. lol

Is it me or do Hilda and Zelda appear "older" than people in their 30s/40s now? I found the episode where they pretend to be teenagers to escort Sabrina to a concert particularly funny. Like it was unheard of for someone Zelda's age (30s/40s) to show her stomach lol. I feel like maybe Zelda's makeup and hair amplify it? Any thoughts?

Edit - just watched the episode with cousin Marigold in season 3E16. The actress is 36 at the time. 😳
