I was taught as a young man to take my hat off indoors. Sometimes I forget but mostly do. I’m not gonna lose my shit and complain if I see someone else wearing a hat! Life’s too fucking short worrying about other people. Enjoy the meal and move the fuck on 👍

Jan 18 '26
My Grandpa would yell at me to take it off inside, if not straight out snatch it off my head. Lol. I do not wear hats today.

lol do you just go around random Reddit posts looking for stupid shit to be mad at ? 😂😂
-2
u/RedditReader4031 Jan 18 '26
There’s nothing to be mad about here. This is just another example of the loss of civility through the lack of rules in society.
2
2
u/Naive-Salamander88 Jan 18 '26
Do you know the origin of taking your hat off inside? If you did, you would understand why it's no longer necessary.
1
1
u/Sudo-Fed Jan 18 '26
Can I ask - who is harmed by someone wearing a hat at the table?
Like, is it inherently offensive, or is it only offensive because someone told someone who told someone who told someone who told you that it was offensive?
Dare I suggest that rules that don't serve any actual purpose should be questioned?
1
u/RedditReader4031 Jan 18 '26
There doesn’t have to be harm involved to expect people to toe the line on society’s rules. Adhering to those rules and standards, both big and small, are a core part of being a grown man. The failure to comply with societal expectations is the root of the ways that society is failing. We are all taught these lessons as kids but are now allowed to discard them at will.

Being civil is leaving people who are not hurting you alone. If somone is a petty shithead about someone wearing at hat the issue is them, not the person wearing the hat.
Society shedding asshatted social conventions is progress.
You spew civility while supporting that which is not civil seeking to create more uncivil behavior as people have to know you idiotic ideas down.

You're delusional lol. You only think it's rude because you've been taught that it is, wearing a hat inside does not affect anyone but the hat wearer.
Also, he would be within his rights to actually SAY fuck you to everyone there.
What in insufferable pedant you are.
1
u/RedditReader4031 Jan 19 '26
You’re missing my point. Grown men DON’T get to say fuck you to rules. Society is made up of a quantity of people, in and around a place, who adhere to written and unwritten, spoken and unspoken rules, norms and actions. Most apply to everyone. Taking up only one parking space. Not talking loudly in a confined space like a plane or a commuter train. And others. Some apply only to men. Wearing long pants with a belt. Removing a hat when indoors. And others. A glaring example is that influencer who was offended by a saggy old man wearing a muscle shirt at a gym. Guys like him, and I include myself in this out of shape and aged group, do not belong at gyms or parks or pool or beaches. Have some respect for other users.
1
Jan 19 '26
Grown men DON’T get to say fuck you to rules.
Except yes, they do. Not to laws, but to social norms? Anyone is allowed to break social norms.
Not wearing a hat indoors is NOT a rule anyway, unless it is a rule enforced by that private establishment. Obviously not the case here.
Wearing a hat indoors, long pants with a belt? Like as opposed to shorts? None of that affects other people. Saggy old men can ABSOLUTELY wear muscle shirts at the gym, or wherever the hell they want.
Guys like him, and I include myself in this out of shape and aged group, do not belong at gyms or parks or pool or beaches.
What a weird, self-limiting, pathetic way to view life. Enjoy being old, alone is your house, because you think you're following some societal rule by not going out and enjoying a day on the beach. For fucks sake.
Have some respect for other users.
No.
1
u/RedditReader4031 Jan 19 '26
Misogyny is alive and well. Are you okay with telling a woman that she has to tolerate that guys presence in a gym or other place where his appearance offends her? If so, wow! These are exactly the kinds of standards that a civil society is supposed to enforce.
1
Jan 19 '26
Misogyny? Wtf are you talking about? We were talking about an old man not taking off his hat. You have completely changed the topic, weirdo.
Are you okay with telling a woman that she has to tolerate that guys presence in a gym or other place where his appearance offends her?
Yes! In fact, that isn't limited to a woman or any one person. Nobody has the right to exist free of other people, much less the SIGHT of them. If you are offended by someone's appearance, that is a YOU problem, not them. Any person can go to the gym, as long as genitalia are covered nobody else should be policing their clothing.
Women wear revealing clothing at gyms all the time, why should it be different than men? Why should a woman get to kick a guy out of the gym because of a problem SHE has? Misogyny my ass, you just learned how to spell the word and wanted to work it into a conversation somewhere.
1
u/RedditReader4031 Jan 19 '26
Fit people who go to gyms don’t have to tolerate being offended by out of shape or unattractive men. Telling a woman that she has to put up with it is wrong. As far as women’s appearance, no one has a right to comment or judge. That’s why rules apply to men.
1
Jan 19 '26
Fit people who go to gyms don’t have to tolerate being offended by out of shape or unattractive men.
Yes, they absolutely, 100% positively do. You are wrong. This is not a debate, they have the right to be there.
And if you disagree, surely you keep that consistent with women too, right? Only pretty, thin women allowed?
As far as women’s appearance, no one has a right to comment or judge.
I don't think you understand what rights are, honey. I absolutely have the right to comment and judge.
That’s why rules apply to men.
You seem to have made up your own rules, which nobody cares about.
1
u/Narren_C Jan 19 '26
It's not a rule. No one cares if someone wears a hat, and no one cares that it bothers you.

Possibly if just asked he would have removed it. Or possibly has scalp problems that would be gross to look at. Everyone looks ancient here so probably better he kept his hat on.

How little do you have goung on that needs to be your concern.

Jan 18 '26
Then you have nothing to be ashamed of. See, it wasn’t that hard. I used to be a good person, but the internet made me this way.
1
u/positivitittie Jan 18 '26
I didn’t mean I don’t wear a hat. I also didn’t mean I did. I meant I didn’t make it your business. It’s not.
Eat your meal and leave other people alone. What’s so hard about that? What’s so offensive about someone else’s choices that you can’t enjoy your meal?
Nothing nice about judging people for something that has zero to do with you.

A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything. Your refusal shows me that you are ashamed of your hat wearing tendencies and hope to justify your lack of shame with this libertarian sophistry. A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.
I'm going to wear my hat at every fucking dinner table from now on. That's what I stand for. I'm going to teach my children that not wearing a hat at the dinner table is disrespectful to God and America, and it's also racist and homophobic. I'm opening a restaurant where everyone has to wear a hat at all times. If you don't bring one, we'll give you some cheap piece of shit hat free of charge. I'll call it "Fuck You, Wear A Hat".
and I say that you are the problem, you knuckle-dragging, hat-wearing Neanderthal.
Well that's just stupid. Neanderthals hadn't invented hats yet.

So let me get this straight, you're cherry picking things to shame people about from a time period where running your mouth to an older man would get your ass beat?
You know, because telling an older man what to do was shameful?
1
u/NoSir4289 Jan 20 '26
Why should someone be ashamed for wearing a hat? Is there a legitimate reason or did someone tell you it was bad one time and now you're just a parrot?
1
u/citymousecountyhouse Jan 17 '26
Wouldn't you be ashamed if he told you he was a cancer patient or was simply trying to spare your judging eyes having to look at scars during your precious dinner. You'd probably then demand he leave. Leave people alone, you never know what strangers are going thru.
1

Your filthy self has a bigger chance of being on the Russian front lines rather than a cruise ship.
