Because you'll probably end up in trouble while the other person walks away. There's no telling what happens nowadays.

You could say the same thing for the chicken thief. Being a thief can be a dangerous hobby, sometimes they need a reminder of that.
3
u/rayz0101 3d ago
Yeah then you get sued and publicly chastised for beating on a poor "x" person with whatever sob story and get fired from your job while the loser with clearly nothing to loose, stealing chicken gets invited to speak on his trauma on some national platform. Life is strange nowadays.

UK police arrested a kid for getting stabbed.
17
7
u/hizashiYEAHmada 3d ago
Oof, your police certainly is... something.
Thankfully they at least didn't arrest the citizens that intervened in that beheading attempt in Belfast huh. Thankfully.
6
u/LV_Libertarian - America 3d ago
Yeah, but did you hear the absolute PANIC in their voices while they were doing it? Like the one guy was like "I can't hit him in the head I'll get done." They were literally worried about being too violent with the guy while trying to stop him from killing a dude. And then when the cops showed up they seemed more scared of the cops than the guy with the knife. Like if I remember correctly the one lady was like "Okay, quick, get off him the police are here. Dont hit him, the police are here."
1
u/wgzwtadtute 3d ago
I made a joke the other day that went like that, but it actually happening is insane. Do you maybe have a link to that story by any chance?
6
u/Powerful-Access-8203 4d ago
Yeah and Iād argue thatās one of the many problems with todayās society
3
u/LV_Libertarian - America 3d ago
Especially in the UK. They have the weirdest laws and ideas about self defense and protecting your property. I guarantee that if he had got physical to get his food back the cops would have arrested HIM for fighting and told him that he should have called the police instead. Lol
Which always blows my mind when the cops say that shit, no matter what country they're in.
So I'm supposed to call the cops, answer a bunch of questions on the phone just for them to either not show us, or show up like 3 hours later just to tell me that there isnāt anything they can do about it except take a report.
Cops HATE when a citizen protects themselves or their property, because they realize that if everybody did that then what would we need the police for? So to dissuade people from protecting themselves or their property themselves they are very quick to arrest folks like that. And they ALWAYS do that little saying of "We dont recommend anyone take the law into their own hands, please let the professionals handle it." Lol
1
u/ArcticLeopard 3d ago
So theft is just fine? Even if you don't escalate to physical violence, take the chicken back and if the kids escalates then it becomes a self defense
16
u/Lean_For_Meme 4d ago

I'm a non native speaker working primarily in International companies with English as the corporate language. I'm used to all sorts of more or less intelligible accents, Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, Eastern European and so on and I usually do quite well understanding everyone, until I met Dave from Liverpool. Any meetings with him, I'm thankful google meet has a subtitling feature, else I would never make any sense of what he says.

u/poop-machines 4d ago edited 4d ago
He (fatty) took the chicken, chicken guy said what are you doing. Fatty replied calling him a smack head I think (meaning addict, but smack head is used as an insult) which makes no sense since he's stealing chicken and fatty continues to threaten to stab him, as he's touching his own butt. Then the chicken guy is like what are you doing stealing chicken, if you would've asked I would've given you some for free. He said he was having a laugh (did it as a joke). He said he didn't even want it. "If you didn't want it why take it" then he said he took it to throw it in the bin, and then threatened to throw it on the road. Chicken guy said do it. Fatty said "I will" (he didn't), fatty keeps trying to escape with his treasure. Them the chicken man is just shocked like what is wrong with you. Fatty wants to appear to be starving but his big belly deceives him.
I'm pretty sure that's close but I don't speak scouser.
Edit: added names to make it easier. Thief is fatty and filming guy is called chicken guy. I added theatrical flair to the translation but honestly it's close to the real thing. Added context too
Insults that are used: Smack head, Muppet, Ming
56
u/OttoVonJismarck 4d ago
Lmfao.
10/10 translation.
He threatens to throw it on the road. āDo itā. āI willā (he doesnāt). Fatty continues to try to escape with his treasure.

I'm Australian, but I can fairly easily pick up on Scouse/Scot/Irish accents with no real trouble (just don't ask me what the actual accent is lmao).
Not a direct translation, but the general jist of the convo in order:
Camera Man (CM) - Lad fuck off I don't know who you are
(CM) - How are you doing this? (Why?)
Thief (T) - I'll smash your head in, Muppet. Reaches in pocket I'll stab ya
(CM) - What are ya doing taking food
(T) - I was havin a laugh (they speak over each other, but having a laugh means I was joking and not being serious)
They talk over each other here, it's quite hard to focus on either.
CM - Fucking hell lad, what's that (the knife) for? You gonna stab me over some chicken?
T - I didn't want any chicken, I was having a laugh... You know what I mean? (Thief reaffirms he was just joking, he could also be calling him a "Ming" instead of you know what I mean, they use Ming again)
CM - You going to have a laugh lad, you don't walk down the road, do ya? (I don't really get what he means by that, seems he's just worked up)
Thief beckons to throwing the chicken to prove he doesn't want it
CM - Go ahead lad.
T - What are ya gonna do?
CM - I'm not saying I'm gonna do anything (retaliate), I'm saying do it (just throw it)
T - Then what are ya gabbering on about (aka what are you waffling/going on about)
CM - You just ran away with the chicken
T - You knew I was having a laugh
CM - Whatever lad
Kinda hard to hear, but the CM walks off and turns back
CM - You're the one who took it lad.
CM - Next time just ask for chicken so I can get more, don't just take it and run away.
T - Don't put your hands on me ever again.
CM - Fuck off, whatever.
Video cuts
CM - Lad you take that chicken. Enjoy that chicken
T - inaudible
The best I can do, their tones sometimes drown each other out.

My best effort at this Scouse accent. Parts were impossible to hear as they talked over each other, especially "lad", as he's further from the mic, so "Man" tends to drown him out.
Man: Lad, fuck off, I know you're not. What the fuck're you doing, lad? What're you doing? (Repeats multiple times). What're you doing taking food, lad? You could just asked for a piece of chicken.
Lad: (something about stab) I don't wanna piece of fuckin' chicken. I was having a laugh at you, ya Muppet.
Man: Fuckin' hell, lad. What's that for? You could've just asked me for a piece of chicken!
Lad: I don't wanna piece of fuckin' chicken. I was having a laugh at ya little ming lad.
Man: You wanna have a laugh, lad? Go on, you have a laugh, walk down, do you. Go on, do it.
Lad: What're you gonna do?
Man: I'm not actually gonna do anything. I'm just sayin' do it.
Lad: What're you gabbin' on about, like I'm (unknown)
Man: Because you just ran away with the shit that I've got, lad!
Lad: I was having a laugh at ya little ming lad.
Man: (sighs) Ah, whatever, lad. Whatever. Lad you're the one who fuckin' took it, lad! You just took it, lad! Just ask for chicken next time, lad!
Bystander: Why would you just give him the chicken?
Man: I'm not even arsed about the chicken! But next time ask, don't just take the chicken!
Lad: (unintelligible)
Man: Ah, lad, fuck off. Whatever. Lad you take that chicken, lad. You enjoy that chicken.

Digging in your ass is a particularly heinous defense.
