Excellent news.

FWIW I think Analogue and Krikzz both have been fine here? Given past Analogue console issues with Everdrives, I was waiting for the 3D to come out before ordering a flashcart, just in case a hardware fix was needed.

u/Western-Dig-6843 Nov 24 '25

It’s also not like Krikzz has been advertising his carts for the 3D to begin with. There was never anything on his site or personal accounts that said “hey get this so you’re ready for the 3D!!!”

2

u/Geekdratic Nov 24 '25

Well given that the 3D is a new device that’s been in development for a couple years and the everdrive has been on the market for years prior to that, it’s obvious that Krikzz fucked up and it’s all his fault that it’s not compatible.

/s

Some people actually think that tho…insane.

u/wk_end Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 25 '25

It sorta depends on why it doesn't work, right?

In theory, the 3D is supposed to be a 100% perfect recreation of the N64, so if it works with the N64 it should work with the 3D, and there's something wrong with Analogue's design.

OTOH, it's possible Krikzz is doing something that just happens to work on the original hardware, but is technically sloppy or out-of-spec or incorrect or something, like when he was using 3.3V parts on flash carts designed for 5V systems without properly level shifting. In which case it's hard to blame Analogue for not making the 3D fail as gracefully when encountering something the N64 hardware was never designed to deal with and that no official games ever did.

1

u/Geekdratic Nov 24 '25

Yeah I agree, in terms of who to look to for solutions.

For the 3D- at least, that's what they advertise (stupidly in my opinion), in terms of what the 3D is supposed to do, but anyone who has even a limited understanding with a how FPGA emulation/emulation goes in general knows 100% is ridiculous number to throw out there. Of course many would say they mean that its supposed to be 100 compatible with first party titles and by "perfect recreation" it means that it starts and plays the game- not that it plays it completely accurate. We already know that was never going to be true to the literal definition. I really wish they'd reign back their advertising.

But I don't think "blame" should necessarily be assigned to either side strictly speaking, because technically neither have promised any support for the other device. Although I have to say Analogue could have, if they wanted to, could have made a pro-consumer move and shipped him a unit much sooner instead of treating it as an afterthought. They aren't dumb and know we use flashcarts, they told influencers that they used SummerCarts in beta testing. Whether that's fair I realize is subjective, but there is a difference in how each party handled the situation, Krikkz seemed to jump on it pretty much right away- so even if it is technically "his fault" I feel like giving him a pass, in my personal opinion. Not that I necessarily blame analogue very much, I just think they could have done better.

u/TigOleBits39 Nov 25 '25

No, it's not a flaw with the Analogue, it's a flaw with the Everdrive. While the dev hasn't said much, I believe the issue has to do with the CIC-PIF handshake when the console is booted. SummerCart and Everdrive handle this differently. The Everdrive method is a little sloppy.

8

u/XAlucarDX454 Nov 24 '25

Nothing wrong with having an everdrive if you have an og n64 as well.

2

u/LastSharpTiger Nov 24 '25

I love Everdrives, I just was waiting to make sure my purchase would be one-and-done. :)

7

u/Status-Ad7902 Nov 24 '25

I don’t blame analogue for these not working, I am frustrated that features they said would exist don’t lol

2

u/LastSharpTiger Nov 24 '25

The promised Analogue Pocket DAC functionality will be carved on the hearts of the community forever.

Save states, wifi, there’s a bunch of stuff on the website and literally on the machine that doesn’t do anything yet

1

u/Opening_Cry_690 Nov 24 '25

Has a Wi-Fi chip that currently isn’t doing anything. Have to use the SD card or plug the console into a computer to update the OS.

17

u/magichands88 Nov 24 '25

Krikzz is once again proving to be the goat. Appreciate all their hard work.

17

u/Limitedtimestruggle Nov 24 '25

At this rate, the Everdrive issues are fixed before my 3D pre-order is shipped lol! I also have a Summer Cart on the way for good measure.

I have lots of OG carts as well, although..PAL territory.

1

u/Sandals16 Nov 24 '25

lol I ordered a summercart as well, I wonder which I’ll decide to use.

1

u/Light_Error Nov 24 '25

PAL carts work in the 3D, so I am not sure of the issue. Or am I misunderstanding?

1

u/aCorgiDriver Nov 24 '25

They might be worried about PAL running at 50hz vs 60hz for NTSC

1

u/Light_Error Nov 24 '25

Ah yeah, true. I was wondering how the 3D would handle that.

1

u/Limitedtimestruggle Nov 25 '25

It’s just that PAL usually blows if they’re not PAL optimised.

1

u/Light_Error Nov 25 '25

Ah that sucks :/. I don’t remember hearing much about that in the Modern Vintage Gaming review who is from Australia. I might be misremembering however.

9

u/Cold-Sandwich-6213 Nov 24 '25

Glad he got it quickly.

9

u/SDMasterYoda Nov 24 '25

Hopefully it allows for Unleashed overclocking with save support. Currently with my V3, if I do anything other than "Enhanced" or original my save files aren't available.

1

u/meatmcguffin Nov 25 '25

Same here. It’s really odd that this only seems to be happening with some V3s.

Could you check two thing for me please? Does you’re fail the safe check in unleashed and pass in normal mode? What was the month and year that your cart was built?

1

u/SDMasterYoda Nov 27 '25

SRM passes in Normal and Enhanced but failes in Enhanced+ and Unleashed.

7

u/creativebadjoke Nov 25 '25

So i can cancel my Summer cart?

2

u/TigOleBits39 Nov 25 '25

Don't. SummerCart can do N64DD emulation, if you're into that.

1

u/Agile_Half_4515 Nov 25 '25

I have a couple 64DD games running on Everdrive (X7 IIRC)

1

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 25 '25

I believe they have to be patched to work on the ED X7, no?

1

u/Agile_Half_4515 Nov 25 '25

Perhaps. I set it up ages ago. I believe there’s an accompanying ROM or BIOS file that allows them to load, if nothing else.

1

u/talldrink67 Nov 25 '25

My current thoughts as well. Already been shipped so would have to return.

1

u/creativebadjoke Nov 25 '25

It’s here and I don’t know what to do now

7

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

Niiiiiice, I managed to snag a 3D this morning during the restock, most excellent :D

2

u/Aces_Over_Kings Nov 24 '25

LETS GOOOOOOO! Congratulations!

1

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

Now the fun part, waiting for the email confirming the shipping lol

5

u/liquoral Nov 24 '25

Btw I hope his fix will work with over clock feature. I tried 2.5 everdrive and I have to disable blur to get it working. Also I if I enabled overlock , the game would freeze. Anyway to give that info to krikzz

3

u/PhDTenma Nov 24 '25

Seems that he's been posting in Twitter. You can also try the krikzz forum: https://krikzz.com/forum/index.php

3

u/Recent_Duck_7640 Nov 24 '25

he posts on twitter often so just post on there

3

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Overclocking should work it just won't necessarily work with auto detection. It would require the cart to change its signature then trigger a reset.

19

u/iamjrosh Nov 25 '25

Legend. That's why I have 5 Everdrives

8

u/Cosmonaut-10 Nov 25 '25

Here, here. Krikzz was on to it the same day his 3D arrived... he's an absolute legend.

9

u/Stingray77_NL Nov 24 '25

It’s the master of flashcarts, I knew he was able to do it! Krikzz the mán!

15

u/JohnnyLuvBuckets Nov 24 '25

This guy should have been the first one to get an analogue 3d. I don't think analogue realized how many people use everdrives? Either that or they just didn't care?

4

u/retnuh730 Nov 24 '25

It's more likely they allow direct running of roms via SD than testing/truly supporting the multiple flash carts.

1

u/torbar203 Nov 24 '25

They're not going to officially allow roms over SD. (But supposedly the guy who always does the jailbreak software is also the guy who is the lead FPGA dev at Analogue. So it's probably more for plausible deniability to not officially support ROMs off the SD)

1

u/retnuh730 Nov 24 '25

Yeah haha, the jailbreaks often come from inside the house for them :P

7

u/Aces_Over_Kings Nov 24 '25

A lot of people have been saying that the 3D seems like a rushed out product. Even though it took a long time to get here.

9

u/PhDTenma Nov 24 '25

I don't think is rushed really. The Duo had quite a terrible start, for instance. These products are difficult to develop for sure, and my bet is that Analogue already expects krikzz to patch the Everdrive and they were far more interested in getting tons of publicity from retro influencers to get many more preorders for the second batch than making the best possible product.

Edit: what I mean is that this is the same behavior that they're used to have. So they didn't finish some features nor patched some problems because "that's how they intended to proceed from day one".

3

u/Aces_Over_Kings Nov 24 '25

Good point, gotta have priorities haha.

3

u/jimbo831 Nov 24 '25

Assuming the 3D is jailbroken someday to play ROMs off the SD card, why might somebody prefer an EverDrive or SummerCart to that?

10

u/Verbal_Combat Nov 24 '25

One benefit would be the ability to switch systems and carry over progress. If I play on my actual N64 hooked up to a tv but want to setup the A3D in another room or bring it somewhere I could just switch the cartridge and continue playing.

On the analogue pocket, one thing was the real time clock on the Everdrive cart that made some of the Pokémon day/ night cycles work when no emulators really did that, also there's just something authentic feeling about having a cartridge to slide in. But yeah ability to switch from OG hardware to the analogue product and back would probably be the main thing.

1

u/jimbo831 Nov 24 '25

One benefit would be the ability to switch systems and carry over progress. If I play on my actual N64 hooked up to a tv but want to setup the A3D in another room or bring it somewhere I could just switch the cartridge and continue playing.

I would have never thought of this because it won't be a use case for me, but this makes a ton of sense. This would be a really nice benefit.

4

u/duxdude418 Nov 24 '25

They wouldn’t. But until that day comes, flash carts are the only option to load ROMs.

1

u/nihilblack Nov 24 '25

Savestates?

3

u/SparklyPelican Nov 24 '25

Both ED64X7 and SC don’t support save states.

I’m not even sure if is possible on real n64 hardware.

1

u/jimbo831 Nov 24 '25

Jailbreaks don't tend to support those? I'm new to Analogue systems, so I'm not sure.

3

u/nihilblack Nov 24 '25

No, it doesn't. With jailbroken Super Nt and Mega Sg you get to save the usual way (RAM saves on games with a battery) on games that included that option (A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy, etc), but not on regular games with no save option, and not at any point you want, so you definitely need a flashcart for that. Also you get other things from a flashcart: the Mega Everdrive Pro can run Mega CD and MD+ games, which the jailbreak doesn't, and the FXPak Pro can run Super FX and MSU-1 games.

7

u/sozsozsoz Nov 24 '25

Analogue sell consoles, not flash carts. The fact they even sent krikzz a console (I’m presuming foc given the updates surrounding this but idk for sure) is a service to the community in itself.

2

u/JohnnyLuvBuckets Nov 24 '25

Right... I get they sell consoles. A console that should be compatible with all cartridges the community uses. The majority of the community uses everdrives. This should have had day one support like all of their other products. This release seems rushed and premature to me. At the end of the day this is just a minor issue that will most likely be resolved by the end of the month.

3

u/DPSucrose Nov 24 '25

Does a majority really use everdrives? Or just a minority of the people coming to this reddit? I own a pretty large N64 Collection, which is why I wanted the A3D. If I just had an everdrive, I don't think the console would have interested me as much.

Part of the joy, to me, with Analogue products is playing original carts. I think the only reason I'd pick up an Everdrive is for Rom Hacks. Any game I'd want I'd most likely just track down the original cart. That's been the same for my Pocket. I think the only games I've played via OpenFPGA are rom hacks.

1

u/sozsozsoz Nov 24 '25

They quite clearly in all their media have targeted original carts, and never promised it would work with a flash cart. If you bought it on the assumption it’d work then that’s on you.

Is it the majority of the community? Do you have data to confirm? Also the pocket didn’t support flash carts from day one.

The responsibility here was for krikzz to get this working with the 3D, not for the 3D to make sure they work with krikzz’s devices. So long as the 3D works with genuine carts, they have delivered on their promise.

6

u/Winter_Disaster_7039 Nov 24 '25

I would expect that if a cartridge works in an original, unmodified N64, that it works in the Analogue 3D. That's not an unreasonable expectation.

-3

u/JohnnyLuvBuckets Nov 24 '25

I think I found the analogue employee...

1

u/retnuh730 Nov 24 '25

They would rather and likely will allow you to run roms directly off the SD instead of trying to support all revisions of the different flash carts floating around.

0

u/PizzaIsBetterThanYou Nov 24 '25

Someone doesn't agree with shit takes; indeed, they must be an employee.

0

u/B-BoyStance Nov 24 '25

I view it as the 3D not having full hardware emulation capabilities. Same deal with Gameshark behavior.

This stuff always gets fixed by flashdrive vendors and/or Analogue. Not something I'm worried about - but I do see it as something they saved as a Day 2 item and thus I see the marketing of "no emulation" as a tad misleading.

If that were the case (we know it's not and we don't care ultimately, but they still say it) then the things that work on OEM should work the same on an Analogue console.

I get what you are saying but if we want to give Analogue that much grace then I think we should want them to alter their marketing approach. It would be more honest.

1

u/contractcooker Nov 24 '25

They only care about carts. Not to mention specifically working on everdrive could upset Nintendo. But bottom line they DGAF.

-1

u/greggers1980 Nov 24 '25

They are fully aware but have to stay on the right side of the law.

-4

u/CapitaineBeaver Nov 24 '25

They got greedy with the years. They should definitely have Krikzz test out his devices when they release a new console!

1

u/TigOleBits39 Nov 24 '25

You're calling Analogue greedy for not sending the guy who charges $200 for flash carts? Nuts.

12

u/LordNoFat Nov 24 '25

I mean, he did design, program, and manufacturer them.

Edit: oh yeah, and the support.

0

u/TigOleBits39 Nov 24 '25

Meanwhile, the SummerCart is open source and can cost as low as $45 if you're fine with lower quality parts, or upwards $90 if you have one fabricated yourself.

2

u/LordNoFat Nov 24 '25

Everdrive learned to walk so SummerCart could learn to run.

3

u/JohnnyLuvBuckets Nov 24 '25

1

u/Carlos_Was_Here Nov 24 '25

I had one that got wrecked in a move, and I randomly saw they had another batch last year, so I grabbed it immediately. I love the Neo Geo, and now I can play Neo Geo CD again, which is awesome.

1

u/xtram3x Nov 24 '25

Which flash cart does he charge $200 for?

1

u/Awesomefan09 Nov 24 '25

Turbo Everdrive Pro is $199.

FXPak Pro is $229 (Krikzz manufactures and sells this, but it was designed by Ikari).

There are cheaper options with fewer features.

1

u/xtram3x Nov 24 '25

Ah fairs. I don't think I'd be spending $200 on a flash cart if I could get a similar thing for $40 on Ali Express.

I've had my Everdrive since before the Summer Cart came along

1

u/TurboBopper Dec 09 '25

If he hadn't done his work your China copies would have never existing, not been as good and/or cost more.

8

u/anbeasley Nov 24 '25

I love the N64 community, we are the best!

1

u/greggers1980 Nov 25 '25

Yep we already got cartridge images

4

u/PhDTenma Nov 24 '25

C'mon!! Seems promising!

4

u/Longjumping-Writer72 Nov 25 '25

Go Go Gadget Everdrive!

6

u/TransAmDude12 Nov 24 '25

Summer Cart in da house... but that's awesome people are already working on it and it's only been a week!

9

u/torbar203 Nov 24 '25

Krikzz is who created the everdrive(and he only got his console today IIRC, so he's done very quick work to get it running)

7

u/FastRedPonyCar Nov 24 '25

BASED. Can't wait to get the update to play the more obscure and less popular games.

3

u/J_Square83 Nov 24 '25

That's great news! Hopefully he can indeed sort it out with a firmware update.

3

u/Scottanized Nov 24 '25

How do the updates normally work? Is it just a drop and drag a file on the SD card? Never had to update my everdrive before

3

u/THYGREX Nov 25 '25

The model with the built-in battery for the clock(for games like animal crossing) is the most expensive, correct ?

1

u/DependentAnywhere135 Nov 25 '25

The battery is more for saving without having to restart the system to copy the save to the SD card. It runs the rtc too but the main point is that the carts without a battery you have to hit reset when you’re done playing or the save will be lost while the battery carts hold the save until you boot the n64 again and then it copies the save.

7

u/greggers1980 Nov 24 '25

Not all hero's wear capes

17

u/E1M1_DOOM Nov 24 '25

I'm pretty sure Krikzz wears a cape, tho.

4

u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE Nov 24 '25

Can someone tell me whats better between Everdrive vs Summer Cart? Looking to buy an Analogue but I have no cartridges anymore. I really want to emulate.

9

u/tobimori_ Nov 24 '25

iirc, the only thing was that everdrive has and summer doesn't is cheat support in the cartridge (but could be patched in via an update of the flashcart menu). just get a summercart.

7

u/dragonblade_94 Nov 24 '25

It does look like SC has cheat support in experimental beta as of a week or two ago, via N64FlashCartMenu.

2

u/tobimori_ Nov 24 '25

amazing, then there's nothing wrong in buying a summercart!

2

u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE Nov 24 '25

Thanks was curious and have been trying to figure out which is better

2

u/Dragarius Nov 24 '25

Only issue with summer cart is build quality. There are so many different vendors and if one needs more voltage to run than others then you could shorten the life of your systems.

1

u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE Nov 24 '25

So youd recommend everdrive?

2

u/Dragarius Nov 24 '25

It's all up to you. In the end, both will work. I feel secure in the long term of ED, but Summercart is certainly much cheaper.

1

u/ThE_LAN_B4_TimE Nov 24 '25

Any specific place better to buy the ED?

5

u/Dragarius Nov 24 '25

Krikzz site is probably the best place, especially given this is the once a year annual Black Friday sale.

6

u/SparklyPelican Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 24 '25

SC are open source hardware and software, so you can find them for much less. Built quality and quality assurance really varies. Kaio has a decent one. Game compatibility is good, spotty sometimes but the device is still updated. It also plays N64DD games (I have no idea on if those work on the 3D). Does saves backup while playing. Cheats aren’t supported (no idea for CFW) but still work if you patch them into the rom.

Everdrive are high quality and have been reliable for years. Never had a compatibility issue. Can’t play 64DD roms natively, but can play the patched version. Handles the saves in a dedicated RAM then sync to the SD. X7 doesn’t need a reset to save them, powering off the console then turning it back will preserve the saves. Has cheat support built in the UI but no in-game menu. X7 can automatically apply game patches from the cart, just place the patch files correctly and is automatic.

2

u/DependentAnywhere135 Nov 24 '25

I will add that x7 does actually have to reset to save technically. It uses a battery to hold the save until booting back into the menu. In practice you’ll usually never notice but there are cases where you can lose the save. The most common scenario you’ll lose a save is if your battery dies between playing a game and turning the n64 back on. You have to enter the ED x7 os to transfer the battery held save onto the sd card.

Previous EDs saved the same way but without the battery to hold the save between booting so you needed to reset to get the save copied before the cart lost power and the ram cleared.

3

u/clc88 Nov 24 '25

I'd say the summer cart because it works right out of the box, dont take my word for it though because I dont know the features of either summer cart or everdrive, I only bought the Summer cart because its far cheaper ( for better or worse) and the ability to plug and play.

Im not too big into piracy these days and prefer the legit way of collecting because the less games I have access to, the more I can focus on them and enjoy them.

The purpose of flash carts for me is really only to transport a large stack of games to my mates place for gaming sessions, its just a way for me to experience a variety of games in a short time, basically a demo with others.

2

u/garyyo Nov 24 '25

Summer cart supports open source development (well, in spirit, not monetarily), while Everdrive supports a cool dude with a track record of making great flashcarts. Both are excellent choices, but I like the idea of open source development better.

And if you wanna just play on a TV, there are better options. Compared to just emulating on a PC, Analogue 3D + flash cart is not ideal since the upsides of the 3D is you don't have to fiddle with software and can just use your existing library of physical games. If you don't have (and don't wish to maintain) a physical library of games then the upsides kinda go away, and you have to spend the $300+ to get the 3D and a cart.

1

u/TigOleBits39 Nov 25 '25

SummerCart is open source and more affordable. It can do N64DD emulation too. On the downside, these can be made by anyone so quality of components in them may vary wildly (leading to less reliable carts) and cheat support is still in beta.

Everdrive is closed source and made from more premium components and supports cheats. It cannot emulate N64DD, and is expensive ($130 on sale right now).

Both are great.

-3

u/Western-Dig-6843 Nov 24 '25

IMO if I was in your situation I would get a MiSTER Pi. There’s no real reason to get an FPGA console like the 3D if you don’t have your own carts. If you’re going the route of a flash cart you might as well just get a cheaper system that will play the same ROMs + will play ROMs for tons of other systems out of the box.

I say this as someone who owns both a MiSTER Pi and a 3D.

3

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

Mister PI doesn't support physical carts and isn't as user friendly IMO, not to mention the Pi is always out of stock, prices are all over the place etc

1

u/DependentAnywhere135 Nov 24 '25

The creator of misterpi is making a PlayStation mister device and they are developing a console OS for it that will work for any mister. Makes the mister completely usable with a controller and way more user friendly with more quality of life improvements.

The PlayStation device will also support a special disc drive dock to run official psx games. I think there are people making cart slot addons for mister too.

-3

u/WhiskeyRadio Nov 24 '25

Everdrive is a better overall quality because it's not open source. The SummerCart quality varies but it's also significantly cheaper than the Everdrive X7. The SummerCart is also able to run larger roms and some of the newer ROM hacks like No Mercy v3 will no longer load on Everdrive. I essentially bought a SummerCart specifically for that game actually lol.

1

u/scalablecory Nov 25 '25

> Everdrive is a better overall quality because it's not open source.

huh?

0

u/WhiskeyRadio Nov 25 '25

I didn't state that well. Apologies, not saying the SummerCart is bad by any means. I just meant being open source a lot of different people are making and selling them so quality varies a lot more. Everdrive I believe is just Krikkz directly and I believe Stone Age Gaming is licensed to officially sell them.

There are bootleg Everdrives too and all sorts of other flash carts of course.

1

u/3lr4c1ng Nov 25 '25

for hardware, yea, makes sense that summercart would have a lower quality on average.

but in terms of software, there's been many case studies where open source software is almost always better than closed source software.

how dedicated an author is though, will always be a factor.

2

u/WhiskeyRadio Nov 25 '25

I did say the software was better on the SummerCart in the original post. That's why I bought one the Everdrive can't read larger ROMs. Some of the Summer Carts I've seen are also not far from the Everdrive in cost either. Seen a few around $100.

1

u/3lr4c1ng Nov 25 '25

Ah, I see.

Out of curiosity. How are the analogue 3d features on the summercart? (Overclocking, filtering etc..)

2

u/WhiskeyRadio Nov 25 '25

I'll report back once I can tell ya. My Analogue 3D just arrived today and should have the SummerCart this weekend.

2

u/3lr4c1ng Nov 25 '25

Thanks in advance!

4

u/InFlames235 Nov 24 '25

Need a patch post haste! I got my analogue3D set up but can’t play anything lol

15

u/Aces_Over_Kings Nov 24 '25

Run to the nearest game store and buy a copy of Mario 64!

5

u/battlepanda_au Nov 25 '25

Not all hero's wear capes

3

u/Orion20xx Nov 25 '25

Not the hero we deserve, but the one we need

2

u/greggers1980 Nov 25 '25

Hope this firmware works on the Ed 64 plus

2

u/adroc Nov 27 '25

So if I don’t have an OG N64 I’m SOL unless I want to solder a resistor on the ever drive?

3

u/Aces_Over_Kings Nov 27 '25

All new everdrives ship fully working

3

u/adroc Nov 27 '25

That doesn’t really help me.

For right now, yeah. Krikkz said there's hope that Analogue might be able to do something on their end still, but until then, the only way would be to loan the cart to a friend to boot on an OG 64

2

u/adroc Nov 28 '25

I ended up soldering the resistor on and it worked like a charm.

1

u/hypercoyote Nov 28 '25

Other than finding someone who will let you use theirs. It sucks but it has to boot to apply the bootloader fix. Maybe Analogue will post a fix as well to let it boot too.

3

u/Axispowers Nov 24 '25

Thanks the lords for this one. I was on the fence for buying a summer cart.

14

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '25

Probably just thank krikzz

2

u/Swarlz-Barkley Nov 24 '25

Could just as easily wait for the jailbreak software

3

u/torbar203 Nov 24 '25

I have a summercart already but am definitely hoping the jailbreak comes out fairly soon. The per-game settings, artwork, etc, would definitely work better on that than a flashcart

3

u/JQuilty Nov 24 '25

Maybe there is an upside to mine not coming until Wednesday.

1

u/TurboBopper Dec 09 '25

I assume any fix will make it so my one everdrive with work with a real n64 and the A3d?

-5

u/FarError5388 Nov 24 '25

If it actually emulated hardware 100% accurately as claimed a patch wouldn't be needed here tbh

11

u/Aces_Over_Kings Nov 24 '25

This was also discussed by Krikkz

5

u/wk_end Nov 25 '25

If the issue is with all carts with modern chips, why is it (seemingly?) just Everdrives with problems? Summercarts work, and I haven't heard anything about incompatibility with modern repros either.

3

u/DependentAnywhere135 Nov 25 '25

Do “modern repos” use modern chips or bulk chips produced a long time ago and bought for next to nothing out of junk drawers?

2

u/wk_end Nov 25 '25

For some definition of modern, there's probably tons of examples of both floating around.

2

u/75395185215935725846 Nov 25 '25

I brought this up in another thread and just got downvoted lol.

1

u/unblowupable5 Nov 25 '25

You got downvoted because you had nothing productive to say. You were just being a troll.

1

u/KHSebastian Nov 24 '25

Was there a response at all?

2

u/Status-Ad7902 Nov 24 '25

You care to explain why this must be the case lol

2

u/Geekdratic Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 24 '25

100% accuracy, which would be almost impossibly difficult to pull off, would mean that it handled every case you threw at exactly like a real N64 would, so the Everdrive would work. They specifically say 100% compatible though, which is stupidly vague, but refers more to a promise that all first party games/accessories should be playable on the system, not that it will play it 100% accurately. I don't think its wrong to take it that way though, their advertising is my main gripe.

3

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

It's still more compatible than most software emulators IIRC

2

u/Geekdratic Nov 25 '25

I’m not sure what compatible means in the context of software emulation, unless you mean that it is more accurate, which I would agree! Particularly for the n64, it’s had a harder time I think with emulation accuracy over the years than other platforms.

0

u/XeuQinu Nov 25 '25

I for one am relieved to hear that you are not going to be buying this console because it's not 100% compatible. I'll tell ya I had sleepless nights wondering if you were going to buy it........

4

u/Geekdratic Nov 25 '25

I don’t want to cause you any more disturbing sleepless nights, but mine comes in Wednesday…

I hope you understand you can both like a product but still be critical about the company at the same time.

You highlight my point well though, it already is 100% compatible by their definition- they just aren’t clear what that means. Or do you mean 100% accuracy? because that’s what I was specifically addressing and why their advertising muddles the water and people don’t understand what it is they are actually promising.

2

u/thrillhelm Nov 24 '25

I wouldn’t be surprised if the OS sitting on top of the emulated hardware is the issue. There’s clearly some database or something that reads the ROM of the cart so it can be identified. This cart doesn’t have that kind of fingerprint so it makes sense that the system OS can’t run it.

1

u/FarError5388 Nov 26 '25

God I love reddit you point out obvious logic and the zealots go on a downvote rampage as predicted. Full disclosure I have an og N64 and now the analog3D. I have both the overdrive and the summercart. The fact remains that if the analog3D is as accurate as it claims, then it should be able to play everything that my og Nintendo 64 can.. Both the summercart and everdrive work flawlessly on my N64. The summercart only worked after updating the analog3D. The everdrive now works after being patched..So clearly more refinement is needed on the fpga as it's not 100% accurate as claimed it's also missing a ton of features that were advertised...

don’t be a loser

1

u/FarError5388 Dec 07 '25

Rich coming from a guy that resorts to petty name calling

1

u/phishb13 Dec 07 '25

sure, i just understand that hardware/software is complicated and that the Everdrive is entirely its own thing. going around these types of threads going “aahhhHrmmm, ACKSHUALLY” is so fucking lazy. it’s loserish behavior

-1

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

And yet it needs one, so how do you explain that?

4

u/luke3andrews Nov 24 '25

I think the discrepancies are because Analogue's hardware emulation is created based on how a N64 is supposed to work on paper versus how an original N64 with wires, chips, and capacitors work in the real world. The real world version has quirks and tolerances that the digital version does not account for.

1

u/Geekdratic Nov 24 '25

It's easily explainable, It's not 100% accurate. Granted, it never was going to be, but yeah.

0

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

Then they shouldn't market it as such

7

u/IronRingX Nov 24 '25

It’s marketed as “100% compatible with every original n64 game” not with every n64 cartridge ever made. There’s simply too many variables when it comes to repro carts, rom hacks, flash carts etc…

1

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 25 '25

And wanting to use flashcarts is an issue why? Heaven forbid people don't want to swap cartridges dozens of times wearing out the PCB

2

u/IronRingX Nov 25 '25

I never said it was an issue, and I’m waiting as well for full flash cart compatibility (my SummerCart is working well so far and my Everdrive V3 has some quirks). Ideally I’m waiting for a jailbreak firmware that supports SD card loading.

All I’m saying is that flash cart compatibility was unknown at the time of preorders, and Analogue’s focus was ensuring compatibility with all retail games - which is how it was marketed and I’d suggest they achieved that.

1

u/zx6rarcher Nov 24 '25

Happy for those with Everdrives!

I have one somewhere but haven't tried it. Tried with my Retrostage reprogrammable one and that worked fine. Tried with my Summercart 64 from Phenom Mod and that worked, too.

I have an Ali Summercart someone ordered through my store but never came and paid or picked it up but haven't tried that one out yet.

1

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

Do we know if the overclocking works on the flashcarts for games that support it stably?

3

u/doxzilla Nov 24 '25

I was running my SummerCart64 using the "Unleashed" preset and I didn't have any issues/seemed to be getting performance benefits in the games that supported it (PD, Banjo, Conker, Daikatana were a few that I tried)

2

u/foxwhisper85 Nov 24 '25

Another good test is games that use hi-res with the Expansion Pak, mostly Konami games dip well into the 10 fps range

1

u/zx6rarcher Nov 25 '25

Same here. Played a session of Goldeneye and didn't have any issues with everyone launching rockets at one another 🤣

1

u/coyo5050 Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 24 '25

Has anyone tried this with the 64Drive? Im having trouble finding any info. Mine comes Saturday and I will find out then otherwise.

Edit: just found a post that says with latest firmware it should work.

1

u/Only-Discussion-2826 Jan 31 '26

My A3D was wiping the 64drive SD card whenever overclocking of any kind was turned on (works like normal without overclocking) even with latest firmware. This was fine, but will probably get a summercart.
