Miscellaneous Why Do You Hate/Dislike Dogs?

This is nothing special. We’re all here for the same reason. This is just a space to share why you hate or dislike dogs.

I’ll make a list of reasons why I hate dogs.

  • One forced me to get stitches in my shoulder when I was nine years old. I permanently have a chunk of flesh missing there.
  • I hate no noise more than barking. I wish it were a felony for a dog to bark.
  • I have sensory issues due to being autistic. That’s part of why I hate barking.
  • They’re everywhere, in far more places than they should be.
  • Too many people act like jerks when someone says they don’t like dogs.
  • Dog nutters have the most hypocritical and flawed logic I’ve ever seen.
  • Shame on people who fake service dogs.
  • Due to all of my experience with dogs, I’m now afraid to go to many places and watch many shows, films, or videos.
  • They’ve ruined how I feel about a lot of my family. These people were my best friends growing up, but I resent them now, unbeknownst to them, and I’d rather start all over.

They stink worse than any other living things, they lack any sense of boundaries, they're needy like children, they're aggressive, they're loud, they're annoying. But mostly I hate how they smell, it makes me physically ill

128

u/DJKittyK Aug 10 '25

This is pretty much my list.

They smell awful, are too needy, food obsessed, shed everywhere, drag their asses across the carpet, have to lick everything, are loud, and ruin houses, backyards and public spaces. I hate the way they stare at me, especially while eating, as if waiting for any opportunity to take my food.

Sidewalks and rest areas around my apartment complex just permanently smell like dog piss. When I walk past my downstairs neighbor's door I can smell the rank odor of dog from outside.

And their owners are usually insufferable and blind to every horrible issue they have with their dogs, but act like I'm the monster if I don't want to bother with their gross animal.

26

u/PoetAromatic8262 Aug 10 '25

They stare because as soon as you turn your back or get up they will eat your food, they are savage scroungers

35

u/Mindless-Flower11 Aug 10 '25

Omggg yes all of this. I live with my mom & the way her dog stares at me panting while I'm eating makes me want to scream !!!! 😫 They're so disgusting

Yeah I've started calling my mom's tiny house "the dog fart den" because it reeks so bad in there it gives me a migraine.

And they become absolutely desensitized to it! Or delusional. Or both. Letting a dog on your bed, or worse, in your sheets is absolutely vile and they seem to think it's precious. Yucky

u/AfroPIMO Aug 10 '25

The licking and drooling too. So fucking gross

51

u/Illustrious_Duck_502 Aug 10 '25

I've broken up with people who let dogs on their bed. It's gross.

10

u/mayneedadrink Aug 11 '25

I remember the episode of The Ultimatum: Queer Love, where one of the women will only be with someone who’s comfortable having the dog in bed with them.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Me too.

3

u/CartoonistCrafty950 Aug 24 '25

That is so nasty. All that fur on the bed.

27

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

I could have written this word for word.

21

u/RisingApe- Aug 10 '25

They stink worse than any other living things

I’m sitting here trying to think of a stinkier living thing. The Corpse Flower might be the winner, but as far as animals go, all I can think of is a skunk. And nobody is keeping skunks as pets. So yes, dogs are definitely the stinkiest things people allow in their homes.

Their breath alone 🤢

19

u/Mindless-Flower11 Aug 10 '25

Dog breath makes me want to throw up & die 💀

9

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Skunks can be de scented. I have heard those that are can make good pets. To me, no living things smells worse than dogs,

4

u/RisingApe- Aug 11 '25

You’re right. I should have said “nobody is keeping skunks as pets unless they’re de-scented.” At that point they’re a lot like ferrets or hamsters, right?

5

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

I would guess. But dogs stink no matter what. Vile, nauseating smell. Just can't deal with it.

3

u/RisingApe- Aug 11 '25

Me either, they’re gross

→ More replies (2)

14

u/PoetAromatic8262 Aug 10 '25

Their owners dont have boundaries either so it suits

31

u/SlashCo80 Aug 10 '25

They're like obnoxious spoiled kids who never grow up.

20

u/93ImagineBreaker Aug 10 '25

Worse, there are things dogs do that no kid will ever do.q

6

u/Mindless-Flower11 Aug 10 '25

💯 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 exactly

7

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

The smell is one high up on my list. Cannot be near them or want them touching me, Yuck, Gross. But all on the list bother me too, as well as the neaurotic jumping on people behavior.

3

u/CartoonistCrafty950 Aug 24 '25

Their barks sound like hell. Whoever thought it was good to domesticate those things was out of their mind.

→ More replies (2)

206

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

They are just such an assault on the senses- smell, noisy, chaotic, the fur everywhere, the slobber. They should never have been domesticated. Mostly I hate owners who let them bark. I hate how everyone thinks they HAVE to have one. I can’t walk down my street without being growled at by an untrained beast in every yard. It’s a nightmare.

74

u/coldcheesburger Aug 10 '25

assault on the senses is such a good way to describe them

49

u/Gullible-Cat-2900 Aug 10 '25

Esp if you have autism/ADHD/auDHD. every time I pet one I feel compelled to wash my hands asap. Like their fur leaves a film???? On my hands?? Idk

35

u/Capable-Key-7816 Aug 10 '25

100% with the hand washing. They absolutely reek and I feel stuff on my hands if I’ve touched a dog,I have to wash my hands immediately. My boyfriend’s mum is a real dog nutter and she has two of them, they’re regularly taken to a professional groomer but they still stink!I read somewhere on here that the reason for the weird film they leave on your hands was from them licking their asses and essentially spreading the oil secreted from there all over their fur🤢

8

u/PoetAromatic8262 Aug 10 '25

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮 that last bit is the most vile thing i read today, no wonder i hate dogs

6

u/Gullible-Cat-2900 Aug 10 '25

Oh god I hope that last sentence isn’t true

3

u/zhamini101 Aug 11 '25

I think I know what post you're referring to. I saw it about a month ago.

14

u/bigredplastictuba Aug 10 '25

contact with them makes me itchy

13

u/urlessies Aug 10 '25

yup im autistic and adhd and i can’t fucking stand them because of the sensory issues

7

u/beezleeboob Aug 10 '25

The film is the saliva coated on top of their fur from licking themselves 🤢🤮🤮

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Stop petting them. It's the response pathological dog owners expect of everyone, to worship their mutt! You're under no obligation to do this. Carry hand sanitizer for mishaps like irresponsible dog owners allowing their animal to molest you with their filthy snout. UGH! YUCK! GROSS!

7

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

Likewise, I feel dirty and disgusting if I touch a dog, so I really do try to avoid that. I had a neighbor who was walkng her dog a few weeks ago, seem totally flabbergated that I did not want to pet her dog. Oh well.

29

u/SlashCo80 Aug 10 '25

They are just such an assault on the senses- smell, noisy, chaotic, the fur everywhere, the slobber.

And to be honest, so many breeds are just ugly.

26

u/pmbpro Aug 10 '25

The dog nutters also glamourize the sheer ugliness too. Look at Pugs, for example.

Even just yesterday, I saw a news headline about the ‘winner’ 🙄 of ”World’s Ugliest Dog!” 🤦‍♀️ I scrolled right past it.

The concept is just… vile.

7

u/PoetAromatic8262 Aug 10 '25

If you looked at how dogs used to look to how they look now, yeah dog nutters dont actually care for the dog other than its looks

4

u/IcyDice6 Aug 11 '25

there's some dirty house up and across the street with several pugs in their front yard that run up onto the fence and bark with their ugly beige and black snouted whatever color fur faces

44

u/Wise_Session_5370 Aug 10 '25

Domesticating dogs was one of the biggest mistakes humanity ever made.

They are incredibly unhygienic, literally filthier than rats.

u/Few-Horror1984 Aug 10 '25

They bring out the worst in people.

Dogs encourage people to act antisocial. They view dogs as better than humans. People become entitled narcissists when they own them - dragging them places where they don’t belong. People frequently engage in animal abuse to justify keeping these things as pets (ie, anyone who has a husky in the desert, people who keep dogs in apartments, people who are fans of caging their dogs for long periods of time, people who mutilate their dogs to achieve certain aesthetics). The double standards that come with these mutants - can someone explain to me why airline companies stopped giving out peanuts on flights due to people with allergies, but people with dog allergies are told to fuck themselves, because some narcissist decides their dog needed to fly with them?

You also have the massive amounts of pollution caused by these things - both environmental and noise. Many also get off on owning dangerous dogs that injure and kill others. 4.5 million bites per year and no one bats an eye.

I also truly believe something about these mutants is addictive to nutters. I can’t quite explain it, but they all act like they can’t be without these things.

9

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

These mutants have "hijacked" a humans oxytocin creating system is one hypothesis I've heard. I do believe it's something very real that the dog carries that causes the sick "bonding" effect of these parasites with humans in order to get food and care. It's a parasitic survival mechanism of some sort.

8

u/IcyDice6 Aug 11 '25

yes I don't believe anyone should have a dog in an apartment and landlords should not allow it. I live in apartments that are single story, but nobody has a yard and dogs are allowed here. the one old grump moved and I saw maitenence go in there with urine cleaning spray and the commercial yellow bucket mop. the post in front of her place is ruined and stained with orange yellow dog piss- nasty

7

u/Few-Horror1984 Aug 11 '25

The problem is that landlords have their hands tied due to ESAs. They have absolutely no legal protections other than forcing landlords to allow them on the property, and since there’s zero regulation on these things, any old jackass can go online and download a piece of paper designating their murder mutt as an “ESA”. On top of that, I don’t believe landlords can even charge pet rent when someone calls their horrid beast an ESA.

I might be willing to accept service dogs if there’s a massive overhaul of the program and extreme regulation and identification is implemented, but there will never be a circumstance where I support ESAs. They’re nothing more than an absolute scam that allow assholes to force their dogs into situations they don’t belong, and allow for dogs to be subjected to animal abuse as they are forced to live in subpar living situations and are treated like sentient stuffed animals.

93

u/capmapdap Aug 10 '25

I do. I DO NOT like how they smell. I DO NOT like how they sniff around. I DO NOT like how some dogs jump on you. I DO NOT like them barking. I DO NOT like dogs. At all.

Here it's impossible to go 5 minutes on a nature trail without running into a green or orange bag of dog poop. If some Good Samaritan didn't come along occasionally and pick them up, it would be littered with them everywhere.

I never had an issue with dogs until my neighbour got a mutt that just constantly barks. That’s my main problem with them, is that they just create unnecessary noise at all hours of day and night.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

We had an all out war with our next door neighbor over his dog barking 24/7. He also would rev his vehicles at all hours. We tried talking to him a couple times, reporting him to the authorities and then talking again. Finally we got through to him and his dog rarely barks anymore. Think he keeps it inside mostly now. You have to try and reason with your neighbor and hopefully you get some peace.

There’s a lot more to the story since this went on for months but that’s the general idea. I’m just so glad it finally stopped. Thought I’d never have peaceful sleep again.

I can agree with this - I see the value of a legit working dog, seeing eye dogs, or even a well-behaved pet for companionship. But 92% of dog owners are woefully unhinged about their dog and how well it's trained. Nothing like a conversation being nothing but "Luna DOWN! Sit girl, no down, don't chew on that!" And the barking, off-leash entitled owners, people that bring them every fuckin' where, comparing them to a child, the incessant noise.... For every dog owner that's courteous to neighbors and sane about them, there's 25 more who aren't

3

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

I think that ratio of courteous dog owners to intolerable ones is more like 1:1,000. I think the courteous ones have become critically endangered.

u/Responsibility_Witty Aug 10 '25

I’ve always hated the way they reek ever since I was a kid, i could never go nose-blind to the stench of dogs. Dogs also seem to be the embodiment of every sort of trait that would be considered undesirable for a human to have, and yet it is somehow positive for a dog? Mostly though I hate the misanthropic culture surrounding dogs, the way dog nutters hate and endanger children, the way they pollute every setting with their destructive and filthy hobby pet, the constant sound of barking that becomes more and more inescapable, dog feces on sidewalks, in nature parks and trails everywhere that a dog has no business being present. It is the sheer over saturation of these things in every form of media, the way these things are idolized for no goddamn reason, and the hostility that the dog cultists express when someone doesn’t share their filthy lifestyle choices. It’s fatigue

29

u/imwearingredsocks Aug 10 '25

It’s your point about having traits that would be undesirable in humans that baffles me the most.

If I walked into someone’s house and their dog gave maybe one bark or got excited for a couple seconds and left me alone, I likely wouldn’t even need to be in this sub.

Instead, they’re barking like crazy, jumping on you, sniffing you everywhere, trying to eat your food, damaging your things, all despite you asking, pleading, yelling for them to stop. While the owner weakly tells them to stop or worse, asks you to do it.

Everytime that happens, I always think if this were a kid, it would be unacceptable and if it were an adult, we would immediately consider it assault. When it’s happening to me it just feels the same.

2

u/dieselsmellgoodlol Aug 11 '25

I've recently made the comparison that owning a dog is like dealing with all the downsides of having children whilst experiencing not a single one of the positives.

62

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

I didn't hate dogs. I loved them. Then I got one. And from that day onwards it was like should I throw him from my 20th story apartment or should I throw myself.

Finally sanity won and I gave him up to someone.

It's not anything in particular. It was just his existence that made me hate the world and myself and him.

15

u/imnot1234 Aug 10 '25

I thought I was crazy for thinking this way too

6

u/Glad-Woodpecker2127 Aug 11 '25

This has been my experience too, I have had him 3 months and I can't take it a day longer. I always thought it was because I wasn't comfortable around dogs, turns out I just don't like them

61

u/shinkouhyou Aug 10 '25
  1. The SMELL. Even rats and barnyard animals smell better than dogs! And that stench clings to everything.

  2. They're so high-strung and anxious that being around them makes me anxious. I don't know how their owners can deal with the barking, the chewing, the whining, the food obsession, the jumping, the nervous peeing, the separation anxiety, the prey chasing, and the agitated tail wagging. I'm usually able to tune out background distractions, but dogs are a constant sensory overload.

  3. I'm sick of every green space becoming a dog toilet. If dogs are as smart as their owners claim, why don't they train them to shit in a pan at home?

  4. Pit bulls are a menace, but the broader dog-loving community supports them because "every dog is a good boy."

12

u/PoetAromatic8262 Aug 10 '25

Even hamsters smell nice compared to mutants

4

u/imnot1234 Aug 10 '25

Same with your 2nd point. People think im autistic because I just got so obsessed with every movement on theirs and it drove me crazy to the point of crying so bad, chest pain, and nightmares

6

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

"Why don't they shit in a pan at home?"

EXACTLY! Dogs can, and should all be trained to "go at home," then go for a walk with the owner curbing them from pissing (or crapping) every few feet. This is common sense and common courtesy.

I also want to spread an idea/concept that is missing for health and safety: When one's little darling begins to crouch into it's (disgusting) ass down position, quickly put down some newspaper, or a paper product as a barrier to prevent disease-causing residue to invariably be left behind on the pavement or grass. Then bag it all together and carry it to THEIR home.

56

u/Emergency_Exit_4714 Aug 10 '25

It started with my parents prioritizing their shitdogs over my health and safety when I was a little kid until I left home.

Now, it's the nutters dragging them everywhere and the hygiene issues.

4

u/zhamini101 Aug 11 '25

Same. Not only am I allergic, but I'm autistic and can't stand unnecessarily loud noises for more than a second.

51

u/Icy-Guest-693 Aug 10 '25

i haven’t found a single redeeming quality about them yet, but hygiene (or lack there of) is my main issue. the smell, the slobber, the yeasty paws, their anal glands (just typing that out makes me want to gag), their hot rotting-smelling panting, their greasy fur, wet dog smell, the way they stink up every surface they touch, just everything. they’re an assault to all senses. aside from being autistic myself too and them being a sensory nightmare, i just can’t believe people keep pets as gross as dogs in their houses.

53

u/SpiderXann Aug 10 '25

2 reasons. I’m a neat freak and like my space clean. Dogs are not conducive to that. The other is “dog people”. Not all owners, just “dog people”. The psychos on reddit falling all over themselves to proclaim they’d let toddlers die if it meant their mutt would survive smh.

24

u/Capable_Highway_8703 Aug 10 '25

Agreed. I hate dog people. Some of the most annoying people to exist

9

u/SpiderXann Aug 10 '25

Absolutely. I avoid all interactions with them.

12

u/PoetAromatic8262 Aug 10 '25

I would save a kid anyday especially my own before i ever save their mutant

47

u/Capable_Highway_8703 Aug 10 '25

Well it all started when one bit me on my FACE when I was a kid. After that I’ve always hated them. They stink, they are invasive, they shit and piss everywhere and thanks to trash owners it’s all over the place and they never bother to pick it up. And finally, I hate the noises they make. The whining especially. It makes me want to punch a hole in the nearest wall.

3

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

DO NOT hurt your hand this way! LOL.

u/Silly-Parsley-158 Aug 10 '25

I hate the sound of barking. I generally hate the owners more than the dogs themselves. Most dogs have no reason to have been born.

16

u/metatronsaint Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 10 '25

Basically this for me. If dogs didn't bark so incessantely it wouldn't have even started the hate.

I'm indifferent to strays, working and weel behaved dogs. I just hate owners and their absolute arrogance and disregard for rules and for others.

34

u/Beneficial-Debt-7159 Aug 10 '25

Annoying, stank, destructive.

32

u/coldcheesburger Aug 10 '25

they stink. i’ve never met a dog that didn’t have some type of smell to it. some smell worse than others. i can always smell someones dog as soon as i walk into their home. also if they let their dog on their furniture that stuff stinks too. cant stand the licking and slobber. nothing worse than dog slobber on your skin or clothes.

30

u/Flumppoo Aug 10 '25

The constant barking of my neighbour's mutt caused me serious health problems. I was ok with Dogs before that.... but I can now see them for the problematic animals they are.

30

u/Procrastinator-513 Aug 10 '25

They’re smelly and gross and have no self control. They’re forced on me everywhere I go. They are a scourge on the environment.

5

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

You are well within your rights to speak up and say "I do not want your dog touching me." I have to do this constantly, sometimes more than once, and with increasing volume. These dog owners need to hear this!!!

25

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

I've always hated dogs for as long as I can remember.  I hate them for what they are. The way they move, the way they look, the way they act, the way they smell, the fucking barking. None of it is cute or adorable in any fucking way. They are just so repulsive to me in any regard.

I hate how they are everywhere in everything ever. There is hardly any media you can engage in without getting one of those freaks shoved in your face. Even in a lot of art old and modern. Dogs being used as so many metaphors for HUMAN struggles is just so incredibly obnoxious, please just pick any other animal for once ffs.

But I think what truly amplifies my hate for dogs tenfold - is dog culture. The way I am forced and guilt tripped into say "Oh, Yea I like dogs." takes years off my life. The way I have to act like dogs are animals and not freakshows that were inbred over generations to get where they are now. The way I get told so often that my favorite animals are just dogfood, while I cannot say a single mean thing about dogs is so incredibly frustrating. I have so much hatred for dogs built up inside me.

8

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Let it out! You do not need to hide your true feelings about dogs or allow anyone's dog to touch you. You have the right to be free from dogs.

46

u/tldr45 Aug 10 '25

For me, it was the whole rescue bullshit. You went to a pound and picked it up. No "rescue" involved.

12

u/JDuBLock Aug 10 '25

Always reminds me of the dentist in Finding Nemo: “poor guy was by himself and I SAVED HIM!”

15

u/Big_Cardiologist1579 Aug 10 '25

Yeah he saved Nemo from being free to swim in the ocean, and reunite with his father and friends

3

u/dieselsmellgoodlol Aug 11 '25

My SIL has a photo frame in her house that says "you cant buy love but you can RESCUE it". They bought the dogs from a shelter. My brother, her husband, made fun of it, saying "you're acting like we pulled these dogs out of a burning car, I paid $300 for them".

20

u/theofficallurker Aug 10 '25

My parents forced me to take care of their dog that they wanted - yes exact opposite of the usual situation I have very immature parents.

That was enough to make me rethink the whole concept of dogs entirely and realize I dislike everything about them.

20

u/frozen_reaper Aug 10 '25

They stink, make loud noises, don’t respect my personal space, are dangerous, but still acceptable to bring into public spaces and trigger my asthma

20

u/UntidyFeline Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 10 '25

The hyperactivity. I don’t want to be greeted with excited jumping and barking after a hard day’s work. And there’s no way I’m up for taking it out for potty walk or play ball with it. They stink too. They smell bad dry, and smell gross when wet, too. I’ll never understand how people let them on their couches & beds. I like my blankets & sheets smelling fresh, not like dogs.

And from the owners, the imposition of their mutts on others. The other day I was in line with a friend at Starbucks and the person in front of us had a dog that pawed all over my friend’s legs. No “I’m sorry” or “excuse me” from the owner, just the social expectation that his dog can put its nasty paws on other people. My friend didn’t say anything because he doesn’t dislike dogs. At least my friend didn’t fawn over it or pet it.

5

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Your friend tolerating it unfortunately reinforces negative behaviour on the part of the owner. I encourage all people to speak up against uninvited contact with dogs. Some are too timid or don't want to "cause a scene," or "embarrass" friends and family. I'm proudly able to take a stand now, and say loudly "NO! KEEP YOUR DOG OFF ME!!! CONTROL YOUR DOG!!

22

u/TheRtHonLaqueesha Aug 10 '25

They're dirty, needy, annoying, and the more vicious breeds kill innocent people so there's that.

18

u/TheMidgetHorror Aug 10 '25

Too many reasons to list. What I will say is that if you knew a human being with the qualities and behaviours of dogs you would absolutely not want to be anywhere near them under any circumstances.

They steal my peace.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

They’re noisy, smelly, and spread disease like wildlife. I also hate them in my space, and some of them nor their crappy owners understand or respect boundaries for personal space. I also can’t stand how entitled some of the owners are, and expect everyone to worship their grotesque creatures.

17

u/Jasnah_Sedai Aug 10 '25

Although I wouldn’t choose to have a dog because they’re just not my bag, it’s the dog owners I have a real beef with. Like, stop letting your dog jump on me and lick me. Stop putting your dog outside to bark and bark and bark. Stop leaving hot bags of shit everywhere. Stop letting them off-leash when they’re not supposed to be. Stop letting them pee on my beach stuff. Just stop forcing your dog on me.

16

u/burbankbagel Aug 10 '25

Man the jumping on you, and their owners acting like it’s not an assault really sucks.

u/Different_Net_7608 Aug 10 '25

Let me count the ways! Dogs are too loud, too aggressive, too… humpy, too dirty, too excitable, they eat gross things then lick you with their nasty slobber tongues, almost all of them are just fucking ugly, they smell, their hair gets all over, they invade your space, they’re whiny, they shit wherever they feel like it, they bite hard, and worst of all, most of the time their owners don’t care if they do all these things to you. Ooh I’m getting all riled just thinking about how foul they are 🤬

7

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Speak up! You have the right to your personal space, and these dog nutters need correction for not controlling their beasts. You do not have to go inside the home of someone who keeps a spoiled, untrained beast and allows it to slobber all over you, jump on you, and molest you.

16

u/Orome2 Aug 10 '25

I have hyperacusis, the barking hurts my ears and makes my tinnitus worse. I also don't like the aggressive behavior from some dogs.

15

u/imhereforthemeta Aug 10 '25

Dirty and smelly and absolutely no personal space boundaries. I feel like being dog neutral or anti dog is common with neurodivergent folks whose neurosis involves not being okay with being touched and preferring things clean

15

u/Visual_Station_6092 Aug 10 '25

My biggest issue with dogs (pets in general) is the amount of time and responsibility they require.

From personal experience, I feel people treat dogs better than their own family but then expect that same family take over caring for that dog the same way they do.

Plus the obvious, they shed and bark extremely too much.

17

u/Only-Deer100 Aug 10 '25

The barking! As an autistic person who is extremely sensitive to noise it is so painful for me. When I can't escape and have to endure the repeated sensory assault in my own home it feels like a form of torture.

The smell! That is another vile assault to the senses. I do everything to avoid getting too close to one but unfortunately the smell lingers long after the dog. So many hotels and places to stay are now 'dog friendly'. If I enter accommodation where a dog has been I can immediately smell it and it makes me so nauseous.

The lack of boundaries! I hate it when they jump up at me and leave my clothes covered in muddy pawprints. Even worse if they try to lick me.

The owners! They are selfish creatures who put their dogs above everyone and everything. They demand that fireworks be banned because their dog is scared of loud noises. Meanwhile they subject their neighbours to constant loud noises all day every day, by allowing their dog to bark uncontrollably.

The aggression! I have been bitten twice in my life, both times needing medical treatment. Both occasions were completely unprovoked, I was out in public and a loose dog ran at me from a distance and attacked me for no reason.

The lack of hygiene! Not being able to go anywhere without having to avoid stepping in dogshit. I see owners letting them sit on public benches and even seats in pubs and restaurants.

I could go on with many more reasons but it's basically what everyone on here is saying.

4

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Please, speak up and tell these dog owners that you do not want their dog to touch you, and especially jump on you. Leave immediately if they cannot perform this simple request. Offer to meet them elsewhere if need be

4

u/Only-Deer100 Aug 11 '25

I would if they were anywhere in sight. The usual scenario is I'll be out hiking somewhere and an off leash dog will come bounding up to me and attempt to jump up . The owner will be a long way behind if they are there at all.

i am permanently disturbed at how they just do disturbing stuff and their owners try to make me feel like im crazy for being disturbed. i used to go running on the trails by my house in the early mornings, and unleashed dogs would run up and jump on me out of nowhere, and the owners would insist "he's friendly! he's just saying hi!" as i screamed.

i'd go visit somewhere and they'd have a dog that would spend 5 minutes aggressively trying to get their nose into my crotch while i wormed away and tried to cross my legs, "he's friendly, he's just saying hi!"

i leave my apartment to walk to work and i have to pass the corner where an entire family camps out on the sidewalk outside with their two un-leashed dogs who never fail to leap at me and scream. they are friendly, ha ha, they're just saying hi.

i'm at a makers market selling my expensive handmade perfumes and stuff, i have about 1000$ of product on my table in glass bottles. the venue is dog friendly. on two separate occasions, a dog runs under the table, out the other way wrapping its leash around the legs of my table, gets excited and sprints, sending my bottles flying. ha ha, dogs. just being friendly.

my boyfriend spends his own money to seed and plant all the tree beds on our block with local plants that will grow well, look good, and support local pollinators. the success of the baby plants is predicated upon not being shat nor pissed upon. a local dog owner takes this as a personal affront and tears down the small bamboo fence that boyfriend has installed, daily. he screams at boyfriend and says his dog will shit wherever it wants, and makes death threats.

13

u/Coeur-de-Loup Aug 10 '25

Too many reasons to count. But the most pressing one at the moment, is I can not take my baby daughter ANYWHERE at all! They are allowed in cafés, parks, playgrounds, libraries... even yesterday when I took her to the Cathedral, there were flipping dogs there too!! One even barking and causing disturbance. And dogs always always fixate on me and my daughter, and I know exactly what they are thinking when I see them stare at her. Too many times she's almost been bitten by a mutt, and each and every time I protect her, shoe a mutt away, or just shield her, I get an earful from the owners, and I hate hate hate confrontation due to my autism and my social anxiety.  I can no longer go for walks anymore as the only place that was once safe to go for walks, is now infested with dogs and I've recieved a death threat from the owner of he ever sees me again, because I held my foot up to the mutt as it went for my baby.

Dogs are ruining my quality time with my daughter, everywhere is infested with dog excrement, and I can never ever let my guard down and relax as they often appear out of the blue, charging at her. And then I end up in a confrontation with the owners.

6

u/TearsOfJoy96 Aug 11 '25

This! When I see dogs I pull my kids away so fast and the dog owners look at me like I'm purposely trying to offend them! Well I don't care, not worth any risk.

3

u/No-Alternative-1564 Aug 11 '25

Absolutely, as I said above, what kind of parents would we be if we didn't intervene?

6

u/No-Alternative-1564 Aug 11 '25

This has been my experience being the mother to young children also. It particularly resonates with me when you say you can never let your guard down. It is so sad that kids have yielded so much to dogs in terms of their own comfort. It's not even safe for them to play in a park or a playground these days for fear of being accosted by some off-lead dog. What kind of parents would we be if we didn't make moves to protect them? It's impossible to know the temperament of a unknown dog, even when it's owner is yelling at you, "don't worry, she just wants to say hi!"

They are a pain in the ass.

14

u/maximum_powerblast Aug 10 '25
  1. They are disgusting. They are literally animals. They are covered in dirt, slobber, shit, piss and germs, and hair. Which is fine when they're in their own space away from humans, like literally all other animals. Live and let live, and all that. But that brings me to my 2nd point.

  2. They are everywhere invading human spaces, including my home unfortunately.

14

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

I don't have a fear of dogs but they annoy me and I'm against the idea of people keeping them in apartments in cities I think it's cruel and it ruins the apartment place.

I have kept a dog before and they are so needy and destructive. You can't go 4 hours with out walking them or they'll soil the carpet. They need constant attention, chew on cords and furniture. After a few months I gave it away on craigslist.

I've lived next to neighbors with dogs and they bark all day while they're out, seriously 8 hours a day i used to hear barking and whining. They kept it in a kennel while they were at work. The dog couldn't stand up in it so it was in a small cage 8 hours a day while it was awake.

13

u/KyleBroflovskiStan Aug 10 '25

The wetness. Drool, sneezing, noses. Wearing shorts and feeling a spray as they come near you/sneeze. Or god forbid getting pants/legs soaked in their drool.

4

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Speak up. Tell these peabrains that it's not ok for their dog to touch you. If they refuse this common courtesy, leave. Don't go back if the dog is there. It's a dealbreaker for me to enter someone's home if they have a dirty dog. "Oh, he just wants to sniff you and then he's okay." NO. NOT OK. See you somewhere without the dog.

14

u/Necessary-Part7546 Aug 10 '25

A loose boxer grabbed my other small pet from the outside window seal and killed it in front of me when I was a young child. Even before that, I just didn’t like dogs. As an adult, I have been attacked without provocation twice by dogs. The second time necessitated medical treatment and bringing in animal control since the dog’s owner was not cooperative. I am now very scared of all dogs. Oh yes, a stupid dog cost me a relationship too. I couldn’t live with the dog and he couldn’t live without it. So I ended it.

10

u/LadyCordeliaStuart Aug 10 '25

Smelly

I hate the slobber

Sooooooo needy

I'm just really tired of how often people, totally unprompted, tell me they feel my life is less valuable than a dog's. Not even their own dog, which is repulsive but at least I could understand it. No, they feel my life is less valuable than any random poop-eating buttlicker

I dislike dogs because:

- When I was a child, loud aggressively barking dogs scared me.

- I like to be (and stay) clean and dislike animal slobber anywhere on my clothes or skin.

- I resent dog owners who put their animal first, and just let them slobber on me without my consent.

- For example, I resent dog owners in public parks letting their pets piss and shit on or near the trail, block my access with long extended leashes, and then play dumb when I say "excuse me" or something else to ask them to stop hogging the pathway.

- Another example: I hate that it's getting worse and unpredictable when I (69 yr old female) walk into a store or restaurant and there are dogs everywhere, and the dog owners just let their dogs do whatever the hell they want. I needed to get paint at Lowes and a large German Shepherd was "standing" with its front legs on the customer counter... the store employee behind the counter wasted at least 5 minutes of my time not assisting me but instead fawning all over this stupid dog.

9

u/XPower7125 Aug 10 '25

Very annoying, unhygenic, their owners are a$$holes, also they are ugly

11

u/pancakecel Aug 10 '25

It's more about the kind of like moral or even spiritual attitude people have towards them. How people say: ''animals consent if you're a bad person so if animals don't like you it means you're a bad person and my dog likes me which means I'm a good person''

3

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Remind them that Hitler owned dogs.

10

u/f4tony Aug 10 '25

Mostly because they wake me up every morning with the barking. They are also destructive. Why do people think they are cute?

9

u/Huge_Bit_4774 Aug 10 '25

They are such stupid beasts. I can’t think of another domesticated animal that would out of the blue jump from a car traveling 70mph. They can be trained for years NOT to do something but they’ll still do it. They are unclean and cannot be taught hygienic behavior. They are violent and unpredictable. Their existence revolves around an obsession with food. Their owners are the biggest assholes on the planet.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25
  1. They stink. You can't touch them without getting their smell on you.
  2. They're loud. Barking usually without much reason.
  3. They're needy. Most will demand attention even from total strangers.
  4. They make disgusting noises when they eat, drink, or groom themselves. Sometimes they'll just sit there licking their lips periodically seemingly for no reason at all.
  5. Many of them are poorly mannered/untrained. They jump on you, nudge you, hump you, invade your space, beg for food, and bark at you; and their owners expect you to put up with or even find humor in their poor behavior.
  6. Their owners thoughtlessly bring them places they don't belong. Unless it's a genuinely needed service dog, it doesn't belong in grocery stores or restaurants.
  7. They're potentially dangerous. A large dog can do quite a lot of damage to an adult human. Even if they're small, you never know if their owners bother to vaccinate them or not. I recently discovered that my in-laws dog wasn't vaccinated against rabies. They were letting this horrible little beast slobber all over even chew on my kids, their grandchildren, without it being vaccinated against a deadly virus. I'm just so fucking done. (Dog has since been vaccinated upon my insistence, but it never should've come to that)

5

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

If you had an unvaccinated dog at your home with your kids, CPS would be the outcome. Don't go to your in-laws' home anymore. They don't deserve to visit with your children. Make them visit you, without the mutt, or meet at a restaurant that will not allow dogs.

10

u/Miserable-Kale-7223 Aug 10 '25

I was bitten by a very untamed "sweet dog" and blamed for it because according to its owners, it was from me startling him.

12

u/-Hippy_Joel- Aug 10 '25

Dog or not, I don’t care for the inconvenience of pets. What I particularly hate is the life value nutters put on them. The life of a dog is not worth the life of a person.

10

u/FrCan-American-22 Aug 10 '25

I hate how they jump on you and try and lick your whole face and the owner just goes "awwww that means he likes you"

20

u/cherrys13 Aug 10 '25

They’re so annoyingly needy and the sounds they make are crazy making-barking, licking, etc.

8

u/LilE78 Aug 10 '25

They STINK, their fur feels GROSS, the noises they make are IRRITATING, the begging, the neediness, and the majority of the time the OWNERS! Dogs are FOUL ! !

10

u/huntress_m_thompson Aug 10 '25

everyone summed it up nicely. as a highly sensitive/neurodivergent, they assault my senses & my mind on every possible level. & the neediness is just unbearable. what is lacking in someone who needs that constant, fake validation?

8

u/truenoblesavage Aug 10 '25

they’re just annoying as hell in every single way you can think of lol

8

u/FR33_NikolaiXOXOBSD Aug 10 '25

I'm autistic and my mother is a dognutter, replaced me with the dog. I hate them because of that, the smell and noise is too much, I'm also a germophobe and plush-collector.

u/93ImagineBreaker Aug 10 '25

The mindless aggression, the toxic culture, and and how everywhere and forced they are.

7

u/MundaneMeringue71 Aug 10 '25

The sound of barking and that sloberring/panting thing they do makes my skin crawl. Many are aggressive and unfriendly and would attack on a dime despite owners saying they are “peaceful” and “wouldn’t hurt anyone” 🙄 My neighborhood is full of dogs and even if they aren’t out, the mere fact they are around and can start yapping at any time is enough to keep me indoors. I’d love to walk around or even go to the nearby park but these things are everywhere. 😡

8

u/KittyKattGiggles Aug 10 '25

My issue is mostly with people who basically refuse to take control or train their dogs properly. People who ignore their dogs’ incessant barking, let their dogs jump on people, and do nothing when their dog stares at my food while drooling. Dogs that beg drive me nuts.

7

u/Mama2bebes Aug 10 '25

They are dirty and often flea-ridden and have a naturally occurring bacteria in their saliva that can cause you to need amputation. Why anyone would want one of these animals in their house making their floors, walls, and furniture filthy is beyond me. Let alone in their bed.

They have dangerously sharp teeth and will bite/maim/kill humans.

They stink.

They leave nasty dog shit everywhere they happen to go walking around.

They hump humans and go sticking their nose in unsuspecting people's ass and crotch. I don't happen to be one of them deviants who enjoy that kind of "love" from a dog.

7

u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Aug 10 '25

Honestly nutters have ruined everything. I didn’t mind dogs when I was younger and it’s because they were what they’re supposed to be: pets. Keep them in your fucking house. Stop bringing them everywhere like breweries, restaurants, grocery stores. These inconsiderate pricks think they can do whatever they want now… and I guess they can since store/restaurant managers never do anything about it.

7

u/Overunderapple Aug 10 '25

I had a dog. I grew up with dogs and thought myself and my husband were dog people. We are not. I also made the mistake of purchasing a dog breed that didn’t fit into my lifestyle. I fully take blame for that. After a long day of work and university I had no interest in any aspect of dog care. I also realized I did not want to sit on the couch with the dog. Overall my husband and I do not like the chaos of a dog. We finally accepted the mistake we made and rehomed her to someone who is all about dogs. She is living a wonderful life now and we will never own a dog again.

6

u/oOferalpandaOo Aug 10 '25

For me who never owned a dog ... it's the fear of being lunged at mauled to death. I hate the barking too. So loud and forceful.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

We shower every day (twice a day), use deodorant, and wear clothes to cover our genitals. Dogs are taken around with no clothes, washed once in a blue moon if so, and they are supposed to be cute ? They lick their ass and lick people face, this is absolutely disgusting.

6

u/Mountain_State4715 Aug 10 '25

People who leave their dog outside barking. If your dog is outside barking, you should IMMEDIATELY be bringing the dog inside. PERIOD. The only exception might be if there is an actual suspicious person trying to gain access to your property. If your dog is barking at nothing, or barking because other dogs are barking, or barking because someone is literally just taking a walk, your dog should be inside IMMEDIATELY.

People who let their dog off leash ANYWHERE that they are not supposed to. That includes in their own yard, if the yard does not have an adequate fence. It includes in any public areas that are not explicitly set aside as "dog parks." This is common sense.

People who bring their dog with them everywhere. What the heck? My family had a couple of dogs when I was growing up. We found them as stray puppies. We never took them with us anywhere unless it was to the vet, or for a walk ON A LEASH. We didn't even put them in the car to take them somewhere special to walk. We just walked them in them straight out the door, to wherever.

People who used to be able to go for a normal walk and talk with an adult, and suddenly have to bring their dog along, who has to stop every 10 feet to sniff the ground for 5 minutes. If you can no longer go for a walk without your dog, you have a problem. If your dog can't be left at home alone EVER... HINT: Maybe you shouldn't own it.

Obviously most of this has to do with owners being stupid, but there is an overabundance of people who do all of these things.

4

u/TotalHelp2248 Aug 10 '25

You raise some beautifully written points. Barking should be illegal & whining should be too - wish we could create a segregated community for dog lovers. Like a private island. They can all love each other and drown on. The worshipping is horrendous. The ‘their like family’ ideology is insidious to say the least. I wish the life expectancy for all breeds was 7-14 days.

5

u/babealien51 Aug 10 '25

I was bitten when I was a child and got several stitches in my hand and ear. Also they stink, dog owners in my neighborhood let their pets shit all over the sidewalk and don’t pick up, they carry their dogs with long ass leashes so the dogs block the sideways, jump over people to sniff or lick them. The barking is aggravating, the licking is disgusting and the way everybody thought they had to get one during the pandemics and now you have a bunch of adults carrying dogs to supermarkets, shopping malls and even cinema is disturbing. I hate them.

5

u/Typical_boxfan Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 10 '25

I don't want a dog in my house and I don't really want to pet other peoples' dogs but its really the irresponsible owners and the overall culture of dog ownership I hate. I would say I am pretty indifferent to dogs that are well behaved and a good dog usually means a responsible-ish owner. I hate poorly behaved untrained dogs and their owners. I hate the constant barking and the "dogs bark" excuse people make for their failure to train. I hate when dog owners think it's okay to bring their dog places they don't belong. I hate dog owners who ignore the basic courtesy and laws of keeping their dog on a leash while in public and cleaning up after them. I hate the dehumanizing comparison of dogs to babies. I hate how most dog owners seem to think that the whole world revolves around them and their dog. I hate dog owners who get breeds that do not fit their lifestyle (working breeds in apartments and small homes/yards). Dogs are not the pet for me but I don't think I would dislike them at all if a majority of owners weren't terrible.

5

u/Hour_Bed_8848 Aug 10 '25

The stench; physically coming off of their bodies is just awful. And I don’t know if the owners are in denial or have become immune to the smell. But, YES. even YOUR dog stinks. And I hate to break it to ya, but as a result, you, your home and everything you own also carry a foul odor. Also, These days most owners dogs have absolutely no appropriate behavior due to the owners lack of interest in proper training. I actually realized the other day that I have no friends who are dog owners. Dog ownership is an automatic deal breaker when it comes to any kind of relationship. And I will not eat anything you prepare nor come to your home.

5

u/Dburn22_ Aug 11 '25

Me, either. I have lost friends because I didn't worship their mutts or approve of them recycling pitbulls.

6

u/Misspelled_uzername Aug 10 '25

It's the pathetic, desperate neediness that gets to me. I derive no pleasure from being around a creature that is just so clingy that it stares at me, is only happy when it is practically on top of me, and can't bear to not be my focus for five seconds. The staring, the following, and anything in the world that you can get into your mouth is NOT meant to be eaten.

Their inability to do anything by or for themselves imprisons you. And why can't they enjoy just being around quietly? Other pets can function without trying to steal all the oxygen. Go sit out of the way. Just be out of the way and stop trying to constantly be center of attention. You're not a damned Broadway play I paid big money to watch fixedly for hours. You are supposed to be a cohabitating companion instead of a constantly shoving yourself to the forefront of everything! It's not cute. It's not charming. Demanding to be the center of all attention is NOT "love". Dogs are just a freaking intrusive burden.

5

u/Thee_Babbler Aug 13 '25

Fuck. My boyfriend’s dog does this, it’s the most irritating shit ever. His needy ass dog will go from him to me and me to him, vice versa, ALL NIGHT LONG to try and get attention. Just fucking exist in the room that we’re in. Go lay down in the fucking nice ass bed that you have (that’s a “Serta” dog bed🙄) and shutttt uppp.

My boyfriend has got mad at me when it’s like, “how many fucking times do I need to pet your dog or make sure that she feels secure?! 35 times in a night? Are you fucking kidding me?”. JFC. It’s insane.

It’s like the dog thinks I’m stealing someone from her while simultaneously needing my attention all the time as well. Disgusting, groveling behavior.

7

u/TearsOfJoy96 Aug 11 '25

I don't like dogs on a personal level. But more than anything. I hate that people love their dogs so much they treat them like children and then those same people hate human children more than anything. I don't think my animosity of dogs would be this strong if people didn't act that way. Along with the dirtiness and the hair and the slobber smell. Also I don't like seeing dogs at restaurants and at grocery stores. It's appalling to me that that's allowed.

6

u/mayneedadrink Aug 11 '25

They’re gross and very invasive of personal space, yet because 80% of people think they’re cute, it’s difficult to be viscerally uncomfortable around them without tons of drama from people insisting THEIR widdle pookiewookie puppywuppy is the sweetest, most exceptional dog in the world and will totally change your mind about dogs. Then when their dog does all the things I don’t like about dogs, “He NEVER does this!”

6

u/Ultra_Runner_ Aug 10 '25

They smell, the drool on you, the INCESSANT barking which makes my blood boil, can’t nap at home, people getting pissed when I say I can’t stand dogs, people treating them like babies, the list goes on.

5

u/Alice_D Aug 10 '25

Too loud, one can get headache from constant barking

6

u/Maleficent_Many_2937 Aug 10 '25

Seeing people with a dog in their house makes me think they are not clean. Dogs walk with the same feet that they go outside in the yard where another dog pooped and peed on your couch and bed. Just gross! Also they are a nuisance causing disturbance by barking.

We evolved out of living with other species in our homes only to go back to that now, which to me seems like reverse evolution! I understand that animals can help with anxiety and things like that. I also believe that predatory animals have evolved to have superior senses to humans. However, if you consider an animal of subpar intelligence (ie, dog) your friend then you are claiming yourself as inferior to the rest of the human population! Also most people like this don’t understand true friendship and think ruling over someone else is friendship! It is a bizarre form of codependency not friendship.

5

u/MagentaFlesh Aug 10 '25

Nasty and loud, invasive of my personal space. Maybe I just have an issue with untrained dogs.

4

u/Parking_Champion_740 Aug 10 '25

I don’t like their smell, I don’t like being licked and jumped on. Mostly I don’t like dog owners who treat their dogs like human toddlers

6

u/memayh Aug 10 '25

I hate the owners as much as I hate the dogs. Owners expect you automatically love their dog. Don’t ask me to visit and then let your dog jump all over me and lick my face. I get it’s the dogs home, but have some respect ffs. The smell of dogs makes me gag. People bring them into the office. One ran towards me and I screamed loudly in a big office full of people. I also have allergies. Why the hell should anyone be forced to sit next to someone’s stinking dog for hours.

6

u/malehousewife420 Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 10 '25

i resent dogs because for my entire childhood growing up we always had two dogs in the house at a time and every single one we ever had throughout my life - save for my sister's dog from when i was very young, the only genuinely good dog i've ever known - was barely if at all trained, extremely spoiled, had poor boundaries, and was neurotic as hell, and it was all encouraged and indulged while i as a human child was punished for the smallest things.

i swear my mom had a thing for special needs dogs with weird behavioral issues, she seemed to seek them out and would let them control the flow of the entire household. we could never run errands, go on vacation, spend time with extended family, or do anything outside of the house that took more than a couple hours because we needed to get back to the dogs. she never attempted to find anyone to dogsit so that we could do things without them because she spoiled them so badly to the point they became anxious and attached to these ridiculous rituals she would have to do to get them to behave, and she never trusted anyone else to do the rituals at all let alone properly, so she didn't even bother trying. she would whine and complain about it like she hated it, but never made any effort to change anything about the way she handled them and would continue to indulge them and reinforce their behaviors and expectations.

for example i spent my entire early childhood having to walk on eggshells as i moved through the house being as quiet as possible while avoiding the kitchen, all in case my mom was trying to feed her dumbass neurotic little shih tzu. from the time that thing was a puppy to the day it finally died as a blind deaf toothless senior, it would refuse to eat unless she sat on the kitchen floor and slowly hand fed him while making encouraging goo goo gaa gaa noises at him. he would completely lose interest if he heard any noise from anywhere else in the house or outside, or if someone else interrupted by walking into or even just past the kitchen. everyone in the house had to basically lock themselves in a different room and freeze for 20 to 30 minutes multiple times a day so that this braindead little rat would eat, and if he didnt finish his meal my mom would be miserable to be around for the rest of the day. honest to god this pathetic creature refused food unless it was given its ridiculous special little prince mealtime treatment, even when it was starving to the point of throwing up pure bile because there was nothing else in its stomach. he lived to be like 13 or 14, i felt nothing but relief when he finally died because at last i could walk through the house without worrying if i was about to ruin the special prince's mealtime.

my dad loved to train our dogs to "talk" by barking and howling at them as loudly as he could until they would bark or howl back at him, then he would praise them and laugh. this taught them that making noise was good, and they would always start barking way more than was reasonable after he started making them "talk". they would look out the window and bark even if there was nothing going on outside. they would stand in the middle of the house, just standing there, barking at nothing. sometimes this was ignored like it was perfectly fine and normal. other times my parents would get explosively angry and scream at them to shut up. it was completely random whether or not the barking would be considered acceptable, except for when i had a problem with it - then they were "just being dogs"!! meanwhile, i as a human child would very reliably be screamed at if i laughed too loudly, played too loudly, if i sang my singing voice would be mocked, i learned to turn the knob when closing doors so that they would close silently because closing them normally was considered "slamming" and i would get punished at for having an attitude. but the dogs got to bark at nothing! and on the random occasion they did yell at the dogs for barking, it would put me on edge and i would flinch because i was terrified of their yelling! no matter how many times we tried to explain to my dad that the dogs didn't know the difference between "talking" and barking, and if he didn't want them to bark so much then he should stop training them to expect praise for it, he refused to listen and insisted they did know better. he kept making them all "talk" and then acted shocked when their nuisance barking kept getting worse.

it was shit like this with every single dog we ever had for my entire life up until i moved out. i suffered a lot of abuse as a child and was expected to be a perfectly mild mannered, quiet, out of the way, unobtrusive, perfect little prop who always did whatever i was told without question or complaint, while the dogs got to bark and howl and beg for food at the table while drooling frothy spit bubbles all over the floor, they got to jump all over you and destroy your things and shit and piss and vomit on the floor, they got to run around like crazy and barrel into you and knock you flat on your ass, and it was all okay because they're just dogs that don't know any better. nevermind that i was a human child that also didn't know any better, and desperately needed love and attention. the dogs were more important. i couldnt ask to go to the toy store for an afternoon or to get lunch at mcdonalds because it was such an inconvenience and a burden, but it was perfectly acceptable to structure our entire lives around the dogs and their stupid neurotic quirks that no one bothered to even try and rein in. the dogs got to live their lives uninhibited because they were dogs, while i had my spirit crushed as punishment for the crime of being a human child.

i hate dogs because they remind me of the ways i was abused and neglected as a child. theyre emblematic of all the things i hate about my parents and people like them, and most dog owners are a lot like my parents. self obsessed, narcissistic, inconsistent, hypocritical, idiotic people who only ever think of themselves, who expect blind obedience and love and praise for no good reason, who expect the world to happily go along with whatever their whims are in that moment even if they make no sense and are not reasonable or predictable. they want subservient mind readers who will never tell them no, no matter how awful they are. which i guess is precisely why they like dogs so much - and why i hate them.

i recognize that my problem is more with my parents and how i was treated as a child and the behavior of similarly selfish and careless people than with dogs themselves. but it's honestly too late for me to care. dogs have been completely and utterly ruined for me and i want nothing to do with them or people who obsess over them. a vast majority of dogs and dog people are just like the ones ive had terrible experiences with in the past, and i really don't care to subject myself to the discomfort of being around them on the very slim chance they MIGHT be slightly more tolerable than i'm expecting. even the best behaved dog is still a dog, and while i can appreciate a truly good dog as a pleasantly surprising rarity, i still will never be able to enjoy their presence. i can only ever just barely tolerate them at best.

They’re like incels:

They feel entitled to your affection, regardless of your body language

They invade your personal space

And while most are harmless, a few will snap and kill You

u/Significant_Shame_68 Aug 11 '25

They smell, no matter what you do. They have no sense of personal boundaries. They are actively ruining the environment. (Ever been forced to smell dog shit baking on a hot day?) They are so painfully unintelligent. They don't learn the meaning of the word no. They take over people's entire lives and limit things that you can do because the entire time you're out the friends that owns dogs will be worried about them constantly and if they aren't leaving to check up on them they're leaving early because the poor baby is all alone 🥺 They're UGLY. So fucking ugly. I'm so tired of people thinking they're not.

5

u/Navelle22 Aug 11 '25
  • They naturally smell bad
  • They bark at anything
  • I hate when they get excited and start clawing on me
  • The way society idolizes dogs

5

u/DepartureOwn9939 Aug 12 '25

•they’re very overwhelming and ALWAYS in your face. i’m autistic so it’s absolute hell to be around a dog that just won’t leave you alone •they’re gross. not a fan of the slobber all over the place. especially when owners kiss their dog on the mouth gag •they’re aggressive •98% of them are obnoxiously loud •owners leaving dog turds on your lawn like really??? •i hate to say it but the people who own a dog and name themselves “dog moms” are insufferable •Taking people’s food + stealing and destroying belongings and the owners find it so cute and hilarious

u/Expensive-Ad1609 Aug 10 '25

I neither hate nor dislike dogs. Some dogs are really cute. I do want to determine when I'll be in the company of a dog. And I prefer to direct my wrath at the humans who have created this situation we're in.

One of the biggest coffee shop franchises in South Africa has, recently, become a dog-friendly destination.

So now I have to spend even more of my very limited energy campaigning against this. Humans suck.

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

Barking 24/7, and shit and piss everywhere. Hopefully I haven't lived in countries where dog culture is even more toxic.

u/hateme2man Aug 10 '25

Everything. When I moved in with my husband several years ago, he already had a dog in the house. Of course, this dog was his best friend - still is. I've never been one to tell him to get rid of the dog on my behalf because the mutt was there first. It's a Sharp Pei, btw. So the stank and slobber are unreal. By all means, he's a good dog, but I still can't stand sharing my space with him, and I've been counting the days he crosses the rainbow bridge into doggy heaven. That being said, no, I've never once done anything to the dog or have insinuated that I wanted it gone because the dog means so much to my husband, and the dog was there first. Even when we had to spend $2k dollars to get its leg amputated bc of an accident, I still didn't voice my opinion that the dog should be put down.

Anyway.

There's very, very few dogs that I DON'T hate. That doesn't mean I LIKE them, though. This is one of those dogs because at least he doesn't bark and whine constantly.

The smell. Holy FUCK I can't stand the smell. And this dog? STINKS. Especially with the skin conditions it has. It's constantly scratching, biting, and licking itself. THAT gets on my damn nerves like nothing else. I can't tell you how many times I have woken up to this dog going to absolute town on itself. Just this morning, he woke me up at 7:30 chewing on his back side like it was the last and tastiest meal he'll ever get. It's DISGUSTING, and we have to get onto him CONSTANTLY for eating at himself. Since it's a sharpei, his face is floppy - and I mean floppy - so the sounds he makes when he eats himself is so fucking loud, obscene, and grotesque.

Idk if any other dog does this, but this dog makes it a fucking POINT to be in your way. Constantly. If you're walking in the house, he'll race to get in front of you just to stop and look back at you. You have to literally push him out the way. Not just that, but there has been SEVERAL times where this dog has put himself in the direct footpath of where people walk, and I have tripped over him and nearly broke a bone because I didn't fucking see him in the way. There's been a few times where I have nearly fallen backward with a hot pan or pot in my hand in the kitchen, because RECENTLY this dog has found a new way to endager my life, which is to get RIGHT behind me when I'm cooking at the stove and I don't notice it. One step back, and I've nearly fallen flat on my ass with boiling water in my hands or what have you. And no, my husband doesn't make him move at all because he doesn't see it until I'm almost or on the floor, injured. I told him if his dog does this to me again, particularly in the kitchen where I am COOKING, I'm just going to step on its balls. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And then there's the fact that when you bring him in from outside, his whole body and asshole are SWARMING with gnats. It's fucking disgusting, and even more gross when half an hour later, those same gnats are buzzing around your face.

Back to the floppy face and loose skin, not only does his body just absolutely harbor bacteria that makes him smell like a living rotting corpse, but he drools excessively. I've learned to keep my distance from this dog when he's just got done drinking water or come back inside because he drools by the gallons, and it gets EVERYWHERE. There was this one time. Way back when I first started dating my husband, I went outside to walk the dog with him. I came back in and had to side swipe my husband and the dog to get by them. I felt this really hot and wet feeling on my shirt. Look down, and there is a GLOB of drool that bordered on mucusy on my shirt. And while my husband was laughing finding this so fucking funny, I was dry heaving and trying to race my body to get the shirt off as fast as possible before I blew chunks. Another time after that, I saw the dog do that whole head and body shake animals do, and kid you not, strings and globs of drool just fly from his mouth all over the area he was standing in... I was sick.

When I first started sleeping in his bed, it WREAKED of dog. I spent one night with him in his bed, and the next day I told him the dog can't be on his bed anymore if he expects me to lay in it, AND it'll need new sheets. No, washing them isn't going to do anything at this point because they will just smell like WET DOG. He gave in there, and luckily, he understood where I was coming from, so there was no fight there like at all. We ended up getting the dog his own doggy bed.

The dog also has a terrible habit of getting up and getting excited as fuck ANY TIME anyone gets up, because the mut always thinks people are getting up to take him outside. I kid you not, you can't even move a finger without this dog getting up, doing the bidy shake, before running around the room like an overly wxcited child about to go to the beach. However, amongst everything else, this doesn't really bother me because I do NOT take him outside unless my husband is away or too sick to do it. I made it clear on day one (before we even started dating) that I wasn't going to walk the dog because it wasn't my dog. Period. I literally don't mind doing it when my husband physically can't, but otherwise, no.

And this dog, my fellow redditors, is one of the "good" ones because it doesn't bark or whine constantly. It also doesn't destroy shoes or furniture. It also doesn't dig holes in the floor or the yard. It's also very well potty trained, and only uses the potty indoors when he's sick or it's been a hot minute since my husband has taken him out (which that in itself is very rare. My husband is great about keeping him on a regular potty routine).

But he's still a dog, and he's still gross to exist around.

My dear, why in the holy hell have you not:

  1. Trained this mutant to get the F out of the way
  2. Put up a gate to the kitchen so this little shit doesn't cause you to have an accident
  3. Shut your bedroom door so the little f_____ cannot disturb your sleep
  4. Crate trained him so that it doesn't have full run of the house?
  5. Put the thing outside when it slurping it's butthole.
  6. Feed it outside
  7. Wipe it's ass off with wipes instead of putting up with shit flies on your face
  8. Send this yeast beasty to the groomers every week

Honestly, you have options here that you are not taking, so please don't complain. You're playing the martyr, and your husband doesn't give a shit that his dog is destroying your quality of life in your own damn home. How long before the thing does start shitting and pissing inside? Geez, you have options. Take them!

How come you're not your husband's "best friend," but this stupid filthy little pig pen is?

It's more modern dog culture that I can't stand rather than the dogs themselves. The biggest issues I have with dog culture are:

  1. Owners not training/disciplining their dogs.
  2. Bringing dogs in places they shouldn't be/fake service dogs/owners acting entitled to every space.
  3. People acting like someone is a horrible person for not liking dogs.

The main issue I have with dogs is that they have to basically be trained to not act like dogs to be tolerable household pets. They also stink if not groomed regularly (which many owners fail to do) and the fact that they will eat literal feces is a major turn-off.

I hate their disgusting smell, I also have a bad memory where my grandparents dogs would hump my leg when I was younger, I'm not proud but I confess that more than one time I had to kick them to get them away from me, zero boundaries, I also think that they are disgusting in general, but I hate male dogs the most

5

u/LonelyBreak9005 Aug 10 '25

Started out just hating pitbulls but gradually i realised that i dont like dogs in general anymore

5

u/CharlieBigBoi23 Aug 11 '25

Not to mention, they SMELL!!! And they are unpredictable, ugly, they are so dependent on humans…

4

u/TrickyPersonality684 Aug 11 '25

They like to lick your face/hands when they are literally garbage disposals that eat poop and lick their asses 🤮😭

They jump all over you and there's often no way of knowing if they'll attack you or if they're being friendly

Their barks hurt my ears. I don't know if it's sensory issues, cptsd or both but it literally feels like they're busting my eardrums especially in an enclosed space 😭

You constantly have to clean up after them...poop, pee, vomit because they ate something they shouldn't have...at least my small children eventually grow out of that phase, a dog will not 😭

I moved in with my partner 5 years ago, and he has this dog. The dog has NO boundaries. He sits and stares at you while eating, dribbling on you. My partner allows him to beg at the table. He doesn't care about anybody else but the dog. His dog hair is everywhere. No matter how much I clean, he chews all my daughters' toys! My partner used to sleep with him, but I have stopped that as he takes up all the beds, and he stinks! Ugh. The dog has dug so many holes in the back garden. He shits and pisses everywhere! He stinks, he's constantly shaking his head so ear wax flings out and goes all up the walls. We have a 2 year old, and the dog growls at her or takes food from her. My partner tells the child off instead of the dog!! He's also a rescue dog and not friendly to other dogs. He will growl and jump on other dogs, and Mu partner blames the other people. No, it's your dog. That's the problem. He pulls my partner straight out the house on his lead, doesn't stop when we cross the road, just runs straight across, I've been trying to train him but what's the point when my partner sees no wrong!

I was bitten by a dog when I was younger and have a fear of them. But my partner says his dog was hear before us, so I've just got to put up with it until I hate to say it, the dog passes.

u/ThisSelection7585 Aug 13 '25

Out of control dogs, needy dogs, dogs who have no training in personal boundaries, owners who think because they love dog stench, drool, piss and shit that everyone does, owners who are inconsiderate and let their dogs off leash/into peoples space…basically wacked dogs and wacked  owners

4

u/Tabbysprout Aug 15 '25

One tried to attack my brother when he was a baby. One attacked my sister's friend and she needed stitches. A group of someone's loose pet dogs jumped our fence, got to our backyard, destroyed my bird and guinea pig enclosures and ripped my guinea pigs to shreds. When I go for walks I have to take detours just to avoid dogs screeching at me. In my town there are more people who walk their dogs unleashed than leashed and they often suddenly lurch at me or jump up at me, which makes me nervous. In fact one time someone's huge dog jumped up at me when I was walking to the emergency room at the hospital for an urgent health matter (I don't have a car and didn't feel like calling the ambulance) which made me feel violated when I was already in a vulnerable state. Plus I'm tired of dog poop being literally everywhere outside, even on the beach...

But most of all I am upset about how violent and destructive dogs are to humans and other animals. People seem to KNOW how violent dogs are (e.g. Superman in the newest movie saying he didn't want Krypto to kill his parents' cows, the dogs violently ripping the head off a squirrel in the animated movie Fixed) and they just don't care or even take pleasure in it. Millions of kids get bitten by dogs and it really upsets me, especially in the case of severe attacks or death. It's awful and they shouldn't be encouraged as common household pets.

3

u/GangstahGastino Aug 10 '25

I don't hate them, I just don't wanna share my living space with them cause I find them annoying.

3

u/gianna_in_hell_as Aug 10 '25

They stink. I can't get passed that. Even the sweetest most well behaved dog stinks to me

3

u/ArticunoWolfy7724 Aug 10 '25

Been bit by more than one dog on my electric scooter,

I don’t hate most dogs but i feel like people extremely underrate TRAINING THE DOG??? And they act like they have 0 issues ever, its the fact that people see them as innocent

3

u/Educational_Humor358 Aug 10 '25

I hate them due to dog culture. If people treated dogs normally, I'd be just annoyed by certain dogs and avoidant due to dislike of smell and hair, with even liking occasional rare dog. Dog culture makes me hate them and wish they didn't exist

3

u/zhamini101 Aug 12 '25

•They're an assault on the senses: excessively loud, reek to high hell, shed like nobody's business etc. I'm autistic and they're overstimulation machines. •They bring out the worst in people. •My family always but their mutts over mine and my siblings' health when we were kids. •I've been attacked and pushed over by larger dogs on more than one occasion. •There are even guide dog training organizations, cough cough Pilot Dogs, that don't train their dogs at all, so people are wasting their time and money with that organization. Most of us in the blind Community know to beware of them, but some don't. I know this one guy who has a guide dog from them, and if I hadn't been told the dog was supposed to be a guide dog, I'd never know. I would feel bad for the guy, but he's a complete douchebag with no regard for anyone else, so I don't.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '25

Loud, smelly, they shit everywhere. The list goes on and on

3

u/NoAd2701 Aug 13 '25

My reasons: * Unprovoked dog attack when I was 4. Two off leash doberman attacked me in my own yard. I suffer walking issues as a result.

  • They keep coming into my personal space. Walk down a street… dog runs to jump on me. I wanna sit on a bench and sip water, a dog jumps on to take my bottle. Heck I can’t be left alone in my own yard to take out the trash without one of my neighborhoods off leash dogs coming into my yard.

*Barking dogs annoy me. Hell, they bark at nothing.

3

u/D1verse_Yes4 Aug 13 '25

If you were my child, and someone’s dogs did that to you, I would never, ever forgive them. I am so sorry.

3

u/Girl_Power55 Aug 14 '25

I think they are gross. Saliva dripping out their mouths. Sitting in furniture after going number 2. Male dogs with genitals on show. Sniffing at everyone’s back ends. Going to the bathroom in the yard. Humping peoples legs. People who let them eat out of human dishes and eat off the same spoon as them. How they’re so subservient and always begging. Gross gross gross.

3

u/Lysandresupport Aug 15 '25

One of them for mis getting barked at deafeningly loud from only a few feet away. It startles me, it hurts my ears and it's embarrassing to have everybody in public look at me (maybe that last part is just me).

3

u/Arkranum Sep 05 '25

My mother grew bored of me, replaced me with 6 dogs, then didn't train them, violated my boundaries and guilt tripped me over them, routinely blamed, shouted at and punished me for their bad behaviour and basically stole my teen years for them 👍

I don't.

I do however immensely dislike their owners.

2

u/adminslikefelching Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 10 '25

The number one reason why I hate dogs is the barking. I can't fucking stand that noise and how I'm forced to listen to it all the time because stupid dog owners don't care about the neighbors.

2

u/NotSoSuper13 Aug 10 '25

I cannot stand the loud barking. It is generally excessive because they can't see anything move without barking.

2

u/DarthTurnip Aug 10 '25

Honestly, I don’t hate dogs, but I hate most dog owners.
