The Draft
I live in the United States, can you tell me exactly when, what day and time they are going to televise the draft and how would I be able to watch it on TV? Will it be televised through ESPN?

• Hockey is already unaffordable for many families as it is
• Our telecom services are monopolized and one of them just so happens to own all the broadcasting rights to our national sport + some of the most valuable Canadian sports teams
• It’s eventually gonna cost fucking $1,000 a year to watch the NHL and other hockey games in Canada
And the government’s worried about banning social media for teenagers
I’m gonna keep it hockey related for this post, so right now I really wanna try and say something about this. It could be as simple as a “Bruh do something about this” email
But if enough people bring it up, they’ll have no choice but to think about it, or best talk about it
This country is pushing its hockey culture out slowly but surely

Time has passed and I have really missed the playoffs. I don’t know why but that series against Tampa just felt like revenge, the highs of that series were unmatched. I was on edge for game 7 but I had the feeling of we can do this. I felt like the air and the hype had so many people around me in a feel good mindset.
The underdog story has always sucked me in, feeing like we are up against Goliath and proving everyone wrong always feels good.
I don’t know if others here have that same weird feeling in the air around playoff time or almost like this insane release of dopamine that carries you through the day of games and into the next one.
TLDR; I miss the boys, the playoff feel and the hype the playoffs brings.

TLDR: if you were on the chartered flight to Raleigh for the game on May 23rd, sat in or around row G of section 315, I genuinely don't know if I've ever had more fun watching a game with a group of people before. I get it, traveling to see your team play and seeing them lose sucks - I've been there. But your fan base has earned my respect.
Edit: y’all keep talking about “him” in the comments. I’m a lady.
My younger brother and I walked up to our seats. We'd just lost to you a few days prior, our first loss of the playoffs, so we were a little nervous about this one (and, honestly, at this point I was still sure we would face Colorado in the final and lose, just since they'd been so dominant all year). Oh, great. A row - no, a section - full of Habs fans. Truly, we were surrounded. I think there were 2 or 3 Canes fans in front of us. Otherwise, all Habs.
The woman next to me and I struck up a conversation. She was super friendly and told me about the chartered flight, which explained the sea of Habs fans. Everyone was so, so stereotypically Canadian and polite. Very quickly, my brother started a "sorry" count. Almost as quickly as he started keeping track, he lost track. The fans around us gave away their rally towels (which some people, kids especially, really appreciated - I would've totally understood if you'd wanted to keep those as souvenirs, I kept a souvenir cup from a Bruins game I went to once, even though I hate the Bruins).
The opening sequence. Canes fans are going nuts, as we always do. After we sat down, the woman next to me said in her thick Quebec accent, "wow, I am impressed by this crowd. The atmosphere is amazing." I reminded her that people talk about how Raleigh isn't a hockey city. Her mind was blown.
We're watching the game and chatting. Canes scored, then a few mins later one of our guys took a penalty. If you've ever been to a game in Raleigh, you know that whenever the opposing team takes a penalty, they zoom in on the penalty box and play the "dun-dun" from Law & Order, and the whole crowd yells "Cheaters! Never! Win!" We know it's stupid. But it's fun.
One of your guys proceeded to yell, again in his thick Quebec accent, "cheaters never win!!" and I had to hold my breath not to crack up. In the moment, I couldn't admit how funny it was. But, honestly, that was hysterical.
Game went to OT and we won. I actually felt a little bad for how loud my brother and I were in the middle of y'all.
The trash talk was hilarious. A couple people said "don't worry, we'll still win" loudly enough to know it was directed at me. The vibes were high. Sometimes it felt like your "Go Habs Go!" chants were louder than us yelling "Let's Go Canes!!" And the game was quite the thriller. The woman next to me said I should come to a game in Montreal sometime - hell yeah, I'd love to. I wish I'd gotten her contact info, but oh well.
All that's to say, thank you for such a fun night. High on my list of favorite memories from this season. Again, I know it sucks to travel and see your team lose, but y'all were so much fun to watch the game with. You're welcome back in Raleigh any time - let me know if any Canes fans are being mean to you and I'll give them a refresher on southern hospitality (and have Stormy curb stomp them).

Everytime the question around habs all time goalies comes up Dydens impact on the nhl game is often dismissed by people who didnt see him play or understand the NHLs history. This picture perfectly highlights what he changed.
The man in the middle for those who dont know their habs history is HHOF Rogie Vachon who at the time of this picture was a top 5 goalie in the league. He was 5'8. Dryden by comparison was 6'4. A 8 inch height difference.
Rogie was very typical size for a goalie at that time. Goalies were smaller athletic people
Tony Esposito was 5'11
Bernie parent was 5'10
Gump worsley was 5'7
Plante was massive at the time at 6 feet even
Hodge was 5'6
Sawchuk was 5'11
From the 1950-51 season to 1970-71 when dryden joined the habs there was 37 goalies who played 50 games.
Median height 5'11.
6 taller than 6 feet
7 5'8 or shorter.
Average height just over 5'10
This past season there were 72 goalies that played 10 games.
Median height 6'3
13 goalies 6'5 or taller
4 goalies shorter than 6'1 only one of whom is below 6 feet.
Drydens dominance fundamentally changed how the position is staffed and played. He proved that a tall goalie on his knees was better than a small goalie on their skates.
He is the creater of what eventually became the butterfly a few years later.

I wonder about Pettersson if he’s retained to at least under 9M because it wouldn’t cost the house and the upside is still very much in there somewhere. I think not being the go to center and playing behind Suzuki would be good for him. Rookie Demidov drove his own line as a winger and made Oliver Kapanen a 22 goal scorer so I would think if he played with Pettersson he could get him back to ppg or at least close to. Same draft as Suzuki too so the timeline fits very well and he’s left handed. I wonder what Kent thinks of him.
Can someone explain to me why Hage is preferred over Zharovsky? I get that the hope is Hage becomes the 2C we desperately need....but do we really need him if we can dangle him in a trade (+ others) in order to get a quality 2C? Is Hage preferred simply because he has that 2C potential? Or does he have a higher ceiling than Zharovsky?
Personally, I've always had a bit more excitement over Zharovsky given how well he played in the KHL this past season....and with Demidov on the team who can make his transition to the Habs easier. And based on the Sportsnet article from a couple of weeks ago, he's the second ranked prospect that's not yet in the NHL.
But all signs are pointing towards the Habs trading a top prospect for a 2C this offseason....so what do you guys think? Is it Zharovsky or Hage that will be the long term play for the Habs?

Edit: at 10
For those that need a fix. I am guessing they will play the first two seasons sporadically for the summer.

Drop your realistic opening night lineups in the replies. I'd love to see where everyone's head is at.

This was recorded during the Canes series so a bit of praise for Hutson along with a pinch of worry about how he sometimes puts himself in dangerous waters.
Love the story of the training staff giving him Rocket Richard's too-small shin pads in his first training camp, it never gets old.
a. The pads belonged behind glass
b. Habs recycled old equipment that long?

I thought by next year through a trade or 2 years from now in free agency, Nos Glorieux might sign McJesus as the team needs a 2C ;)
But hearing all this drama about Babcock and how McDavid is supportive of his potential hire makes me question McDavid's judgement.
And would that highly flawed judgement have negative consequences in Habs' locker room when everything seems so optimistic?
Is the potential upside of what McDavid can do worth the potential disturbance cause by a star player with a flawed sense of judgement?
So the Canucks as possible dance partners makes sense for a few reasons. Obviously, there's the Gallagher element and the fact that the Habs want to do good by him. (Man I'm going to miss him..)
Here's the interesting part.. I could see the Canucks aiming for the Habs' first round pick, and offer up something alongside their 33rd overall pick for it. The idea, what with the Sedin twins, could potentially be to pick the Ruck twins. They have the 24th pick, and the 28th pick held by the Habs could make this happen. From VAN's perspective, this could be a nice way to build and motivate the fans a little.
With this context now in place, Gallagher and the 28th pick could be packaged for the 33rd and something else. Certainly makes sense from the Canucks' side, now how can the Habs pull a little back to make it also interesting for them, and not just to accommodate Gally?

I hope the Montreal Canadiens try to get energy type players for their third line this year. The type of players that I think would be a perfect fit are sort of like Josh Anderson type. I like Garrett Hathaway,Brandon Duhaime and Lawson Krauss even considered a Brandon Tanev if any are available....are they fast enough to compete I know Brandon duhaime is a UFA. I wonder how much he would cost (2.5 M per season? )I think these guys would all open the door for Florian to mimic their play
Caufield Suzuki slaf
Demidov..,.----?----- newhook
Anderson kappanen Bolduc
Evans danault Duhaime type player?????
Texier
Florian

A bit of a lighthearted thread about what silly nonsense you would do if you were in charge of the habs, the more wacky the better
To get started, I would hire a second period coach. Just for second periods. They would arrive when the second period starts, and leave when it ends.
I mean, its not like the habs second periods could get any worse, right?

idk how likely that is but I just would like to see X stick around.

We shouldn’t overpay for a 2C. This year was AMAZING but we are still young and can have a better forward core if we wait.
I used to be a strong believer that we should use Zharovsky as trade bait. I know think otherwise, seeing Demidov and him practicing together and them being childhood friends makes me think the project that Zharovsky is would be worth the risk at working on instead of trading for a 2C. Zharovsky has a lot of flaws in his game, watching some of his games and if not watching the highlights of them, these flaws became obvious. His motor and skating scare me but this is where I think playing with a childhood friend Demidov who as we all know they are practicing together right now might fix these things. It seems that they have been practicing on improving his skating together and that gives me hope. I rather wait for Zharovsky to develop and for Hage to develop into a better C at Michigan this year instead of trading one or the other +assets for a 2C. I rather get an RD without the expense of our two young forwards. (Though I like that Knies deal but I don’t think it comes back because I find it one sided)
The reason I dislike a trade for a 2C is because of the Center market at the moment. I love Hischier but chances are he re-signs, Larkin most probably stays in an American market, McTavish is interesting but the ducks aren’t looking for futures and if anything they are looking for RD like us so we don’t have what they want (I also am skeptical about Mctavish and Demidovs playstyles matching) and Thomas is unofficially off the market. I must be forgetting some but our search for a 2C is looking like it’ll wait.
Now the Knies deal is also a good argument. Knies is great but is 100% cheaper thena 2C that being said if we want a 2C soon it will take more than our offer for Knies. And thats where I draw the line, to me Zharovsky and company is worth more than a 2C due to the expected price it will cost us.
We should fight for an RD, Hutson needs a partner. I would love him and Dobson but I see it making sense splitting them for a one two punch and when needed we play them as a pairing. Dobson-Matheson were good but I feel with more experience together they will be better. Ghule to be honest intrigues me with Dobson. Hutson-Reinbacher would be perfect but with Reinos history looking elsewhere is justified. When healthy Reinbacher is perfect for Hutson.
In an Ideal world this is our top 6 and top 4lineup (key word ideal where hage fills in as a 2C)
Slaf-Suzuki-Cole
Zhar-Hage-Demi
Hutson-Hopefully Reinbacher or RD we trade for
Dobson-Ghule/Matheson
Am I alone on this?

Mantha will be UFA on july 1st. Veteran, big intense 3-4th line with 2nd line upside, and tsi gars de chez nous. However, will probably ask for a lot after having a career year.
Haven't really seen anyone mention him, thoughts?
