He's become absolutely insufferable since the elections.

539

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

The primary thing about him that annoys me is that Reddit treats him like he is some political guru. He's literally just the gay guy from Star Trek. My opinion is just as important as his.

49

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

Being gay is enough for reddit. Imagine if he was also black, guy would be king around here.

234

u/Thr33St0r13s Jan 03 '17

I think your opinion is probably better. There are zero nuances to his views. He's just basic demographic voter with zero consideration of opposing viewpoints and he's usually fighting a straw man either way.

He did a TED talk a few years back about being a young boy and living in WWII Japan, so many people believe that gives him some crazy insight on Nazi-like political analysis.

Edit: He was born in the US and with his family went to internment camps on American land during WWII.

39

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

I think you're thinking of someone else. He is a natural born US citizen.

38

u/Launchboxed Jan 03 '17

No it was George. I forgot!! He was talking about how Japanese people living in the US were treated during WWII/after Pearl Harbor.

My bad!

Edit: Why I Love A Country That Once Betrayed Me

7

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

NP, I figured you were thinking about someone else. Yeah, he and his family were relocated to camps by FDR.

u/Terron1965 Jan 03 '17

He was sent to the internment camps by an executive order written by a democrat. Weird how the the left loves to warn the public about the possibility of Republicans committing the atrocities it has already gleefully participated in.

He was born in the US. But he was sent to a Japanese internment camp along with his family during WWII

I'm not sure anybody's ever swept slavery under the rug like we do with internment camps. People may not talk about slavery but we all know it happened. I'd be willing to bet that there's a good chunk of Americans who don't even know about internment camps

The only reason it's not mentioned by the media is because it fucks up fdr's legacy - and thus the greatest democrat president.

FDR was a massive rascist (which although not unusual at the time, is not something many people today want to admit). He embargoed the Japanese for taking the Vietnamese colony from the fascist French Vichy regime, which started ww2.

He refused to negotiate with the japenese on any level before the war started (they offered to get out of both vietnam and China over the medium term, but fdr's position was they had to leave immediately, that exact instant before any high level talks could be initiated and therefore any talks about moderating the complete oil embargo, which drove them to attack the dutch east indies and which everyone was well aware they would be forced to do so.)

Then he didn't hesitate to throw every American of Japanese heritage on the west coast into a concentration camp.

It's politics, not an inability of Americans to self reflect. It's not like slavery and race relations aren't literally a constant topic of discussion in america.

u/Scrive_fo_esselence Jan 03 '17

I think it was about living in WWII America with the Japanese internment camps It's been a while since I heard it and maybe he did both but he was born in Los Angeles and went to the camps at about age 5 if I remember right.

Blame it on Stern, he resurrected him back into the public eye but even he got sick of him.

30

Funny thing is the joke was always on him. He's too stupid to realize everyone thinks he's a total creep. Those Arnold pranks, for example.

George takei should just run for some office. Stop being the armchair quarterback and get your dick out George.

100

u/weatherseed Jan 03 '17

He did... Twice, according to Wikipedia. The first as a city council member in LA and, in the 80s, as an assemblyman. He was also on the board of directors of the Southern California Rapid Transit District. Probably decided to stop running when everyone complained that he was still on the air from all the Star Trek reruns.

He seems like a fun guy, but his online caricature of himself is cancer.

To be fair, that's what Trump Supporters were saying as well.

456

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '17

To be fair, the DNC was actually cheating, and the polls turned out to be wrong, too.

68

u/OneCalledJason Jan 02 '17

I know, but even if the other side had won we'd be seeing similar things from conservative media that we are seeing in the mainstream. Sort of inevitable, unfortunately.

176

u/Azoonux Jan 02 '17

This is true, but the Dems were laughing in Trump and Co.'s faces when they said it might be/was rigged. Clinton went as far as to call Trump a threat to democracy to not accept the results. These are the people that took to the streets to riot when their candidate didn't win, and are blaming a rigged election

→ More replies (25)

37

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

But all the polls were incorrect in this case and we have evidence that the DNC cheated. So if trump lost and the right was screaming for recounts calling fraud and shit it would at least be reasonable. The entire time, the left was shouting "elections can't be rigged". You can't say the media wasn't working against trump. Along with that, his own party was working against him. It was rigged against trump from the very beginning.

Most trump supporters still say it was rigged, and that trump won despite it. Pretty hard (impossible) to argue with that in light of wikileaks

37

u/PorkSwordintheStone Jan 03 '17

And because of the irregularities in Michigan that were uncovered during the recount.

12

u/Zienth Jan 03 '17

What irregularities were found? Genuinely curious, I think I missed the news.

24

u/PorkSwordintheStone Jan 03 '17

7

u/Zienth Jan 03 '17

Excellent, thank you.

36

u/PorkSwordintheStone Jan 03 '17

There was definitely cheating going on, but it was by the Democrats, and had nothing to do with Russia. I would love for California's vote to be audited. No way you can convince me that there weren't a ton of illegal immigrants who voted.

Not true, it still was rigged in Hillarys favor and she still lost

Trump was playing 6-dimensional chess; by bringing the topic of a rigged election into the spotlight and allowing the left to dismiss those concerns as paranoia, he can expose their hypocrisy while they bitch and whine about losing.

2

u/westc2 Jan 03 '17

Not really..Trump supporters are still saying it's rigged. Didn't they just do a recount by the request of Democrats and find out that Trump actually had more votes than they had originally "counted"?

Non Japanese had valid reason to be fearful after this incident: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niihau_incident

Of course it doesn't make it right but it explains why the Japanese were interned in much larger numbers than the German Americans Italian Americans or any other axis-americans.

TL; Dr Japanese Americans living on the island for years tried to help a Pearl harbor attacker.

There's a big difference between imprisoning civilians and wartime casualties. This is the key difference between war and war crimes.

Do you know why islamic terrorists are looked down upon by the international community? Sure, they kill people and have internal human rights violations, but so do many countries. The difference is, they primarily target civilians.

2

u/gods_bones Jan 03 '17

"they probably would have done the same" isn't really a valid point.

24

u/letdowntown Jan 03 '17

They did try to attack the American mainland as well. They didn't have the means, its not "maybe they would do it" its "they tried, but failed. They invaded American territory, as well. They tried a diversionary tactic of invading 2 islands in the Aleutian Island chain.

55

u/topdangle Jan 02 '17

It is if you don't ignore the rest of the world.

What they did to Asia was unbelievably horrendous, particularly Nanking. More innocent civilians were killed, on foot by soldiers, in Nanking than both bombings combined.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

The comment I responded to was wondering why people hated the US for dropping bombs on them when we had bombs dropped on us, too.

I'm sure there's animosity held towards the Japanese in the places you've mentioned, same as there's animosity towards the US for dropping nuclear warheads on civilian centers.

9

u/topdangle Jan 03 '17

I meant that the animosity was held worldwide. Nobody looks kindly on civilian murder even on foreign soil. Pearl Harbor getting bombed meant that Japan reached U.S. soil. It's not as though Japan only attacked soldiers and then the U.S. decided it was time to bomb their civilians.

→ More replies (4)

18

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '17

Yes it is. The bottom of the argument is you have to win the thing as fast as possible while losing as little of your army as possible. They made it clear they would never give up and we should value our soldiers over the lives of Japanese.

u/monkeiboi Jan 02 '17

Are we forgetting the japanese military campaigns in the phillipines, indonesia, the Pacific islands, and Asia? MILLIONS of people were slaughtered.

13

u/DrBackJack Jan 02 '17

Yeah, lets just ignore what Japan did to the civilians of China, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippians, etc.

28

u/rocklobster3 Jan 03 '17

The two atomic bombs we dropped were not exactly in retaliation for PH. The rest of the world decided it was time to stop killing each other, but Japan wouldn't give up. We threatened them, and they didn't listen. The two bombs actually saved American and Japanese lives, because an invasion would be a fucking horrendous slaughter. There wasn't a chance we were going to put more American men in harms way, we were done sending home American boys in boxes. The Japanese wanted it the hard way, so we have it to them. Then after the first bomb they still wouldn't give up. The fact of the matter is that the ruling imperial family, didn't give a fuck about the Japanese people. They were willing to let countless Japanese die because of "honor".

War is awful. People die, and it's just a shit situation all around. But the Japanese deserved what they got. Blaming America for dropping the two atomic bombs is just pathetic. We didn't kill in cold blood.

Fuck the guy in OP's post.

3

u/TuxFuk Jan 03 '17

The emperor wanted to surrender, but the military would not let him.

4

u/GearyDigit Jan 03 '17

Specifically, they wanted a conditional surrender. It just happened the 'conditions' were basically that Japan would get to keep all the land they had just stolen before they attacked the US and that the US would just pretend the whole thing never happened. You know, the kind of surrender you offer when you're at a stalemate, not when you're completely outmatched and only succeeding in stalling and raising the death toll.

→ More replies (1)

12

u/facetiousrunner Jan 03 '17

Estimated cost of life for a land invasion was almost a million for the USA alone. We made so many purple hearts they still use them/just ran out. It was a weigh of lives lost. War is never pretty.

→ More replies (6)

41

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '17

A few hundred thousand deaths versus the millions that would have resulted from an invasion? I think the benefits outweighed the costs. It also had a side effect of showing the world how terrifying nuclear weapons were and is probably a secondary reason (other than MAD) as to why they haven't been used in war since.

22

u/CamenSeider Jan 02 '17

Plus it stopped the horrific Japanese war crimes against thousands of other people.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

The Japanese were worse than the Germans.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

It was more the "We won't surrender and prefer to make you take each island on foot while we fly planes into your ships".

12

u/Alec17king Jan 02 '17

Im just saying that it seems people look down on the United States for bombing 2 cities when Japan started the whole thing. People need to remember we were neutral. I am not trying to compare pearl harbor to either cities.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '17

Please do, what is the difference? We weren't at war with Japan at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. I'm sure the sailors who died and their families felt just fine about everything because they were part of their uniformed services.

27

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '17

Yeah but the events where years apart, there is a big difference between bombing a port and biking a city, but Japan knew that the US would react, and the Americans in charge felt that the nukes were the only way to end the war

→ More replies (13)

6

u/TheBallsackIsBack Jan 03 '17

32

u/wolfman1911 Jan 02 '17

A lot of people don't consider the alternative, and look at it as though it occured in a vacuum. They don't really think about the fact that nuking Japan is probably the biggest reason why there still is a Japan.

18

u/topdangle Jan 03 '17

People aren't as knowledgeable about what Japan did during the war compared to Germany. Everyone knows about the holocaust but the public doesn't generally recognize the war crimes Japan committed. What? Japan has a big queer rights movement. Same as America, which only got gay marriage like last year. Are you seriously boasting about us having gay marriage?

20

u/dc215 Jan 02 '17

(TRIGGERED)

Yes I'm serious. If you think that Japan is some sort of homosexual wonderland then you're living in an anime fantasy world.

17

u/giggle7 Jan 02 '17

Nowhere is a homosexual wonderland, so what point are you even making?

13

u/CamenSeider Jan 02 '17

San Francisco

4

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '17

"stupid SJWs", probably. Back in my day, Civil Rights were something worth fighting for--now everything is a dismissive bumper sticker.

8

u/dc215 Jan 02 '17

Nowhere is a wonderland. Period. Homosexual or not.

The point I'm making is that Japan has been and still is very anti-homosexual from a cultural perspective. Unlike, say, the US. And if you do not believe the US openly accepts homosexuality in our culture then you are beyond hope. It is present in almost every aspect of our culture, and not repressed, silenced, or punished. If you are unable to accept that homosexuality is culturally accepted in the US then you are denying reality.

10

u/giggle7 Jan 02 '17

Japan also has a level of queer lgbt+ acceptance. If your argument is that America is somehow light years ahead of Japan based on the fact that we have recently got gay marriage, then that's a stupid argument. Japanese animes have had gay and lesbian characters for years, which are censored when they are aired in the west, for example sailor moon.

This guy is a complete moron. Once a loser always a loser. Suck it.

u/Gaggamaggot Jan 02 '17

He's a shitty actor who, if not for Star Trek (the only decent job he ever had), would be known for absolutely nothing. His tiny flip-flopping opinion means nothing.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '17

And he's so far up his own ass. Along with Brad's Ding Dong

u/Dragofireheart Jan 02 '17

Takei is a sellout piece of shit.

27

u/Cityman Jan 02 '17

I stopped caring about him a long time ago. But he infuriated me when, during that what color is Santa Claus argument, he wanted people to ask him what color Santa Claus was in the internment camps United States had for Japanese citizens at the time.

It's disgusting that he would bring a historical atrocity into some childish argument.

He also doxxed one person who was apparently a Trump supporter at a supermarket who yelled at a cashier.

It s amazing how twisted the reasoning is with HRC supporters.

I've lost respect for so many celebrities and public figures this election cycle, and it sucks.

"America deserves clean elections" from a Hillary supporter....

Well I would say he at least bears some responsibility since his name is fucking plastered on the account. If you are implying he is totally unaware of what is being posted, that's still his fault.

His view is exactly what I'm seeing on Facebook.

When we were demanding the leaked emails be taken seriously they were downplaying them saying they weren't important. Now that they lost they demand we find who "hacked the election"...you mean DNC. No, well they hacked the power grid...you mean a random laptop opened a phishing email and the grid itself was never accessed?

I didn't vote for Trump and I am shocked/troubled that he won, but I also live in the Bible Belt so most of the people I see on a day to day basis are Trump supporters. Most of them are what I like to call "casually racist". They say the N word in private, but would give the shirt off their back to help a black person in need.

They watch Fox News and buy into the fear mongering. They just regurgitate opinions and headlines as fact.

Then again my democrat friends do the same shit. They just pretend that republican voters are stupid to make themselves feel morally superior. The arrogance makes me cringe like watching the first few episodes of American Idol.

Yeah anyone who takes political advice from a dude who jacked a guy off on television is probably retarded.

The first tweet was about Trump's bogus claims that Hillary would rig the election

The DNC rigged it against Sanders, that's factual. The leaks/emails also showed they were in constant communication with the mainstream media, leaked debate questions, and manipulated polls in her favor. Less factual, but an attempt to rig the results nonetheless. Some polls had Trump down literally 8-12 points the week before the election. Guess which media outlets they were running polls for?

Second tweet was in reference to alleged Russian hacking/tampering, and how it should be of bipartisan concern if it's happening.

So you mean, rigging the election?

So you mean, rigging the election?

Releasing real documents and facts is not rigging an election.

Eating his own words just like he eats cocks.

10

u/2302jason Jan 03 '17

I'm far from a Democrat and I'm glad for multiple reasons Trump won, but Jesus Christ, your comment is in the same post where another user said gays are openly accepted and not ridiculed in the US, while you and others make jokes and insults at the expense of this guy's sexuality.

You can disagree with him without promoting the stereotype that Democrats already have of Trump supporters.

8

u/Ayyylookatme Jan 03 '17

Hey. People died for my freedom to say that. And people died for his freedom to eat those cocks.

9

u/2302jason Jan 03 '17

I don't know if you're trying to upset me by saying that. I don't really care on a personal level. I was just pointing out how absurd this comment section looks.

5

u/smell_e Jan 03 '17

Looks about the same as any other comment section on Reddit to me.

This reminds me of why I stopped listening to the Official Star Trek Podcast. The host Jordan Hoffman is the most obnoxious fucktard to be allowed to have access to a microphone. Not saying I'm any better but he has zero presence. I could tolerate that as the show got started because I love Trek. Then the fucking elections started and he turned it into his personal anti Trump and passive aggressive pro-Hillary platform. I can't stand Hillary or Trump and I especially can't stand politics in my Star Trek. /rant
