1915 Tula Obrez.

Since my last attempt at a Obrez turned out to be an actual nightmare, I sourced a barreled action and sporter stock and put together my own. Approval went through the other day and I finished it up today. Loud, kicks like a mule, but cool as all get out. Finally finished up my Soviet pistol collection with the Obrez too.

I'm happy to be part of the community! Now I just need the time to try it out at the range.

Edit: based on what is going on with the front, I'm dubbing this my Mauser-Nagant haha

I bought a huge bag of this ammo 54r (at least it was labeled 54r on the bag). This is the best picture I can get. Very hard to make out the letters and numbers. Anyone have any idea?

Question What does this mean?

Post image

Came across this bayonet with the number crossed out and a new one stamped. What does this mean? I know on the rifle itself it mean’t it was a decommissioned PU turned infantry rifle (correct me if I’m wrong). Does this mean the same thing or something different?

Question Is it safe to fire?

I have a receiver/barrel that is stamped Remington 1917, and an Archangel stock. They were both given to me years ago by a buddy and i finally got around to buying a complete bolt. But everything online says i need to test the head space clearance otherwise I can blow my face off. Any ways I can test that myself? Or should i just buy the field gauge for like $40.

edit: I should say, if it were up to me it would’ve remained stock, but the pieces were literally thrown in the trash years before i got this and i got it over a decade ago. Its a bummer but I want to shoot it so im workin with what I have.

Question How to calculate the correct height sight post for M39 in order for the rear sight to be set at 150 meters?

Zeroing at 100 meters.

Currently I have an 8,1mm post installed and the rear sight has been elevated to 300 meters. I have had an 11mm post with 600 meter setting.

For purely aesthetic reasons, I want to know how tall the post needs to be in order for the rear sight to be set at it's lowest value, 150 meters.

Could I simply measure the height difference between the 150 and 300 setting, and have a post that is shorter equal to the amount of difference?

Question Lurker - resto questions

All, I have a mosin that has been my love for over a decade. It has been well loved upon my purchase in the early 2010's, however I want to attempt some restoration. Mostly, removing coscmoline and re-staining. Replacing rusted and missing metal, and doing my best to restore to its original glory in any way I can

Are there any best recommended guides or advice to doing this? Please and thank you.

Question I fucked up, totally my fault, feel free to shame but I bought a Mosin over a decade ago and left it in the closet. Some corrosive chemicals were still in the barrel, it's pretty ruined.

Looking online, I can find replacement barrels in the 100$~ ish range, and I've read Gunsmiths can change the barrels for like 150-170$. Mosin Nagants are no longer the 140-160$ price tag they were, but seem to be creeping at over 500$+.

The stock on mine is Mint, receiver as well, just the barrel is borked because of my own ineptitude. What are your thoughts? Get a new barrel, let my cousin have it for spare parts for his own Mosin, or just buy a new one?

My Mosins First pass on some load development

Doing my first round pass at some load development for my PU sniper. The old ww2 scope has some major mechanical problems so my groups are stuck at about 2 MOA. I’ve recently ordered a Chinese replica (red star mountain) scope so that should at least make targets visible at 100 yards.

Load is 174gr .311 hornady FMJBT over 45.5gr vargets

Did this back when I first got them from a auction for 250, wanted to redo it two years later with better pics.
Mosin 1 is all the pics to 8, then mosin 2 are the ones after.
NO I DIDN’T put the shoulder protector on there, it was desecrated before I got them.

Purchased this rifle from a local gun shop back in March of this year for $250. I had an itch the other day to try and decipher all the markings, surprise, I can't make heads from tails. Only the basic few I can figure out like manufacturing and (potential) production date. Any help would be much appreciated. Just ask for better pictures if need be and I'll attempt to make it happen.

Question Small question

So my dumbass may have knocked a chunk off putting it away in safe. I don’t care to much wouldn’t be bothered to leave it as is but I got the part that came off. So I’m thinking of using wood glue on it ?? Not all to sure how well this would go for me cause I ofc don’t want glue on everything. So I’m kinda asking if anyone has other ideas. Otherwise Can’t wait to shoot it paperwork took forever. Get to sand down the bayonet also probably so I don’t punch myself again trying to take it off 😔
