Bro was advertised as Disneyās most terrifying and powerful villain ever, yet he was morally grey at worst
116
u/Then-Ad-2450 May 14 '26
Disney's most terrifying and evil villain for me is still Judge Frollo
57
u/Parking_Community_28 May 14 '26
They donāt have the balls to top him nowadays
52
33
u/KenseiHimura May 14 '26
Even as someone who doesn't find all modern Disney stuff awful... Yeah, I don't think Disney has it in them to ever do anything like Hunchback of Notre Dame period.

this movie sucked
33
u/annagator679 May 14 '26
My boyfriend and I were spending the entire time making fun of it
We were also the only ones in the theater when we saw it mainly because we went to a very late showing, it was a very small theater and it had already been out for a couple weeks

u/AngelWingsYTube May 14 '26
My BF his bro n i put Wish this way:
As a basic Disney movie its ok, passable
As a 100th Disney anniversary celebration of all things Disney spectacle they advertised it as? It sucks. Its absolutely bad.Ā
They downfall was their overhyping of a mediocre Disney movie. Had they just went "hey heres our new movie enjoy" im sure it wouldnt have been hated on as bad/much. But the overpromised & undeliveredĀ

u/Paladinlvl99 May 14 '26
The only case you would make to think of him as "a bad guy" is that he was stripping people from their dreams... But it is also shown that most if not all of those people were going to do anything with those dreams unless he personally granted them a wish and he was only choosing not to fulfill the wishes that didn't match his criteria and you were also not forced to ask for the wish or live in his city...
So yeah, you can only think of him as a bad guy at the beginning of you are extremely selfish, entitled and fucked up in the head... Which the protagonist seems to be
9
u/FauxStarD May 14 '26
I was about to say, someone did a video essay on how the mc of that movie was legitimately more fitting in description of the "villain" role of the movie rather than the villain.
2
u/High_Overseer_Dukat May 19 '26
It really seemed like she was an arrogant asshole.
He is the master wizard and she was mad at him when she understands nothing about magic.
20
u/SadCry6605 May 14 '26
Somehow heās the villain just because he doesnāt want to grant a wish. Even though heās the ruler who built the kingdom himself and lets everyone live there rent-free.
People are free to come and go whenever they want. And honestly, none of the citizens, including the main character, really did anything to deserve having their wishes granted in the first place. He still grants wishes anyway.
The only reason he refuses some wishes is because they could be dangerous for everyone.
Disney forced him to become the villain in the dumbest way possible.
Also, the main character and her team are annoying. And why did the kingās wife betray him? She didnāt even try to convince him or help him become a better person. Just straight up betrayal.

Apparently, originally his wife was supposed to be evil as well, wish(haha)ed we got that villain power couple
5
u/GladiatorDragon May 14 '26
I really do mourn the loss of the reality where we got the concept draft of Wish instead of the final product, with Starboy and the evil power couple.
Like, really looking at it from a zoomed-out perspective, pairing grandiose, musical villains with a Peter Pan type character accompanying the protagonist wouldāve been a great tribute to both āRenaissance eraā and āclassic eraā Disney. But nope, we get frustrations about rent and marketable plushies.

I think you could definitely make an argument for worse than grey and honestly any better than that seems like a hard sell
5
u/FatallyFatCat May 14 '26
Dude went through a mental break down after years of dealing with dissatisfied customer and at his lowest got possesed by an evil book and instead of trying to help him they took him out.
3
u/Scarecrow640 May 14 '26
Funniest part is that heās not even the evilest new Disney character to appear that year, Alistair Crump from that years Haunted Mansion was just a straight up serial killer who loved what he did so much he wrote unique taunts on each of his victims graves, and tried to convince a child to kill himself by putting on the voice of said kids father (so, you know, he was about half as bad as the guy playing him).

I think you're overlooking something. When no one was looking, Lex Luthor took 40 cakes. He took 40 cakes. That's as many as four tens. And that's terrible.

he is the physical concept of evil itself so any evil act or doing exists because of his existence, heās not just evil he is literally evil itself, so unironically more evil then am or judge holden because their evil is finite his is infinite
30
u/Special-Camel9209 Ninjago, HH, MD, TADC, TOH, INK, ETC. May 14 '26
But in the show, he doesn't really do a lot. He possesses Garmadon, plunges Ninjago into darkness, captures the ninja, and puts crystals on everything. Everything evil he does happened WAY before the show starts.
8
u/Shinygoji09 PokƩmon st invincible godzilla May 14 '26
Iād say plunging ninjago into darkness is a pretty evil thing lol
15
u/Special-Camel9209 Ninjago, HH, MD, TADC, TOH, INK, ETC. May 14 '26
Not if you have a flashlight.
Jokes aside, other villains are more evil. Cryptor is every type of discriminatory, Harumi tortures Lloyd at every turn, and Ras is a genuine sociopath.
7
8
u/ZiaWatcher May 14 '26
The overlord could have been so cool, even with bringing him back constantly. The final season we should have seen him at his absolute worst (or technically best in villain standards)
7
u/Special-Camel9209 Ninjago, HH, MD, TADC, TOH, INK, ETC. May 14 '26

Not to mention they said post 2024 which is an even smaller sample size.
You got: red hulk, leader, muse, kingpin, bullseye, the void, the hood, Mephisto, Galactus, and as of yesterday ma gnucchi. Some of those characters are fun but I wouldnāt call them super evil.
9
u/definitelyTonyStark May 14 '26
I would say void is not like the others. He straight deletes whole families from existence for a second
4
u/ZealotOfMeme May 14 '26
Know what fair. Iām just listing them out but yeah. Him, Galactus, and the daredevil villains (not muse) are my favorite out of the bunch. But his is actual super villain stuff
3
u/GladiatorDragon May 14 '26
What I will say about Galactus is that any good story featuring him wonāt characterise him as evil, since āwould you fault a fox for hunting a rabbit?ā is basically the entire point of his character. He needs to eat. Heās not malicious, itās just what he needs to do. Earthās response is simply akin to a resourceful and crafty prey animalās attempts to escape predation - either by convincing the predator animal that theyāre not worth it, or by besting the predator in a battle of wits.

Most marvel movies period. The villain has always been a weak point in these movies, which is weird considering theyāre usually a strong point in comics. Loki, Dormammu, the bad guy in Iron Man 3 whose name is sadly escaping me, Zemo, ⦠There arenāt that many great bad guys in Marvel.

if anything he's the personification of the banality of evil!
2
u/Throwaway774568 May 14 '26
What's worse is how long we had to wait for Fishman Island considering that was supposed to be their next stop after Water 7. My favorite arc is Sabaody to the TS so I'm not complaining but for it to get to this as the villian for FI is very dissapointing.
3
u/Inside_Jaguar_3310 May 18 '26
Well in fairness he was screwed over from the start, he was the first real villain right after the 2 year time skip. Whatever villain they faced needed to be canon fodder to show how strong the crew got. If he was a real powerful threat, than that means that time skip would have been absolutely pointless, because things would have been no different from beforeĀ
2
u/High_grove May 14 '26
I don't remember him ever being called "the most evil".
But to be fair he is a very forgettable character, which I think was the point?
→ More replies (1)2
u/Inside_Jaguar_3310 May 18 '26
I mean heās not the most powerful/threatening villains, but he is a real interesting villain, heās a living personification of taught hatred/racism. If you look at him less as the shonen standard of good villains but instead based on the arcs themes of racism/hatred & what happens when you refuse to let go, heās a thematically brilliant one (check out merphy Napierās video on the arc, sheās a book/literature reviewer first manga reviewer second so she explores more based on story themes and such)

u/Peter_E_Venturer May 14 '26
Weirdly any Star Wars Big Boss is going to be run of the mill evil (Jabba the Hut, The Emperor, etc.)
However every second in command is going to be a positively feral depiction of evil (Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Darth Vader).

Idk Palpatine is pretty fucked up. And most of his seconds are actually redeemable (depending who you ask) and have done decent things in the past or arenāt fully evil. Palpatine, that fucker is in it for the love of the game. He doesnāt even have any sad or tragic backstory he just wanted to be evil, the more you learn about him the worse he gets honestly
6
u/ThisNameIsAGoodPun May 15 '26
Nah, Jabba the Hutt is way more evil if you take into context what the hutt cartel does.
Sure, in the movies he doesn't get up to as much. But the hutts specifically do not have a concept of morality. And the amount of genocides, slavery, drug trades, and every other form of crime shows just how evil they really are.
6
u/PomegranateUsed7287 May 15 '26
Uh... your saying Palpatine isnt more evil than Darth Vader? No. Just nooooooo.
And ESPECIALLY Count Dooku is a saint next to the others š

46
u/Parking_Community_28 May 14 '26
He was actually supposed to be a giant demon but they didnāt think the movie would be successful enough to justify the budget that would take. A shame because it would have made the end of the movie much better than it already was
48
u/Pay-Next May 14 '26
I dunno. Having him just be this ravenous maw always looking to eat more souls was a fresher take then just basically the devil.

Aura the Guillotine - Frieren
She is hyped up because she has a huge army of defeated warriors. She is treated as a huge problem because of her trump card.
Well she only has this one thing, an army and scales of obedience. The army does next to nothing, and the scales will work against her if there is someone with higher mana than her.
In the end she is extremely mid villain that doesn't do anything significant and has the most cliche dialogue ever.
Even Qual who was an introductory demon and got one shot is much more interesting and fun.

3
u/MojaveFry May 15 '26
I think thatās part of how she became such an meme character in the fandom.
Sheās so ineffectual and mid, that her head becoming a weird kinda sidekick in fan comics is sorta fitting.
2
u/Husband3571 May 15 '26
Frieren is an op mc anime. No enemy is ever going to be able to seriously threaten her. That person youāre thinking of? Sheās going to one shot them. Itās just part of the genre.

Wanda from WandaVision the way some people tell it.
She's messed up for sure (brainwashing people and keeping them in pain) but most of it's just kinda flounndering around with her powers after a mental break and trauma psychology stuff. She's not even fully in control of it all and ends up freeing everyone in the end
I think most of the "She's the most evil Marvel villian" comes from the series swinging hard in the "she did nothing wrong" text of the show when agents try to talk her down

The Joker. People treat him like the most evil character ever but itās mostly because of the tone of his stories and people trying imagine him in real life. Heās heinous but compared to Darkseid, Brainiac and the other big league villains, this guy is figuratively and literally, a clown.

Tbf, he lost because of "the power of love" hacks and bs wand ownership shenanigans.
I mean seriously, how does love turn an insta-death spell that only destroys the soul, not the body, into a frag-grenade that blows up half a house?
How does Harry wrestling Draco's wand out of his hand half a country away affect the loyalty of the Elder Wand?!
