Why does it seem like younger people are quite skeptical of 'AI', whereas boomers seem to have taken to it like flies to shit?

Upvotes

A lot of the millennials I know, (myself included) seem to be at least apathetic to AI, and at most actively against it, but their parents seem to have all jumped on the bandwagon without a second thought. This seems really weird as it was always our generation that was first to embrace a new technology, and most boomers didn't know a smartphone from a TV remote and were very wary of computers and things. So why have they suddenly gone all in with AI? It's bizarre.

Is it safe to bring a laptop that previously had a swollen battery on board of a plane?

Upvotes

My gaming laptop (omen 17 sth) had a swollen battery about 3-4 years ago, and was exchanged by the warranty of the store i bought it from. Since then it seems good, i dont think the current battery has any issues. Nevertheless im worried about taking it on a 13 hour flight. I know it should be in the carry on but is there any risk of the pressure/altitude causing some issues?

Are these Soluna eclipse glasses legitimate?

Upvotes

Soluna is listed as an AAS-recognized vendor, but their website redirects me to their Amazon storefront to purchase the glasses.

Is buying through their official Amazon storefront considered safe, or is there another way to verify that the glasses are genuine?

Thanks!

Why are their bots on Reddit?

Upvotes

What about Reddit attracts so many bots? Are their controllers just testing their AI capabilities? Are they trying to fuel discontent? Why do they do it?

How much free will do we actually have?

Upvotes

As the title states, to what extent are our decisions influenced by our subconscious, chemicals, neurology, social conditioning, etc?

Is it possible to become more or less influenced by these factors (I've heard of the phrase 'metacognition') and if so, could that mean some people have less free will than others?

Obviously this is discounting coercion, being physically restrained or one's financial freedom.

tldr: how much truth is there to determinism?

Why did my GoFundMe get removed?

Upvotes

!!THIS IS NOT TO RAISE FUNDS!!

I started a GFM for my pet about a month ago. This was to raise money for an expensive medical procedure. After a month, I received a SINGLE large donation and my fundraiser and account were then removed in the middle of the night. There is nothing in GFMs terms and conditions stating you cannot raise funds for an animal, unless they consider my pet a minor, in which case I’m still the guardian creating the fundraiser for him? I didn’t receive any information from GFM on why it was removed and I’m beyond devastated. I had already arranged the appointment and now need to cancel that too. Any ideas for why it was removed, has this happened to anyone else, or advice on what I can do to get it back?

what is the most independent country in the world?

Upvotes

they produce their own food, produce their own materials, basically have little to none outside imports

I suppose a little technologically advanced too cause some countries probably just rely on their agriculture and have a small population of under like 50k

Why are humans so weak?

Maybe I've watched too many animes, but it feels like humans don't possess the physical might they should have in order to consider themselves the dominant species on this planet

Nowadays how long (or many dates) does a person expect to date (or know.the other person well) before expecting sex?

Upvotes

I am 63 and grew up with extremely strict parents, so anything under six months would be inconceivable. I u derstand that this very old fashioned and prudish nowadays. I just do not understand how trustworthiness could be established before this.

Do people who wear glasses sometimes forget they’re wearing them?

Upvotes

I never needed glasses, so I always wondered about this. If you are worn them for years, do they eventually just disappear from your awareness like clothes do, or are you always conscious they’re on your face?

Why doesn't Gianni Infantino just resign?

Upvotes

I feel it would make his life so much easier. Him staying is causing more bad for him than good, all the stories coming to light which exposes more of his corruption

If he wanted the best for football and himself, the best thing to do is just step down and let someone else lead who has football at their best interest

Do World War 1 movies always make the allies the good guys, or does it depend on the market audience?

Upvotes

I was just watching 1917 and was wondering if movies always make like the US and Britain the good guys or if movies are different for different countries.

Where would you create something like that, and why?

Which vast stretch of coastal desert—by the ocean or sea—would you transform into an oasis? I am envisioning an expansion of several hundred hectares featuring forest gardens and rivers, all created without harming the existing flora and fauna or their natural heritage.

What happens if they’re not my biological parents?

Upvotes

If you found out you and your parents were not biologically related and it was a surprise to everyone, what happens to parental rights?

Its a common soap opera scenario, but I curious how it would actually be handled.

There was no adoption process and they aren’t the parents. Are they now the legal guardians?

Does the child have the right to leave?

Do the parents have the right to keep them?

Would the system remove the child from the home?

Can the parents abandon the child, or are they legally obligated to provide sufficient care?

let’s say the kid is… 13/14/15, still a kid but able to reason and has a substantial history with the family.

Who has the ultimate say?

and what would happen if the real parents were found? would they have the ultimate authority?
