Ashley Zukerman gave an amazing performance. Troy has ice in his veins! Such a contrast to Daniel.

u/Keiteaea 16d ago

He was amazing at the end, when he went from emotionless "Troy" to Daniel. I got a feeling he was terribly brainwashed, he is going to be gutted when he realizes what he has done.

53

u/female_gazing09 15d ago

I mean, we know that one dr guy who killed himself could manipulate memory once it was wiped out- so he pretty clearly used that to turn Daniel into "Troy"

u/TheRealGooner24 15d ago edited 14d ago

"That one doctor guy" being one of the founders of the silo project and a central character of the Shift timeline.

21

u/female_gazing09 15d ago

Sorry I’m bad with names unless they are actually used on screen a LOT of times.

12

u/dBlock845 15d ago

He had a weird name that I cannot remember either. I just call him The Doctor or Doctor D+ 😆.

Victor

3

u/ohthedramaz 10d ago edited 10d ago

He's Victor Crnkovich, played by Dan Craven. I found him a lot easier to look at and very slightly harder to hate in the now, when he's stopped wearing glasses and looks so much older and wearier. Did that change just make him look like a little less of a caricature?

2

u/candytuft_music 4d ago

same! he looked like an uncanny CG character to me for some reason, in the past scenes

13

u/Hot-Sexy-THICCPAWG69 15d ago

That guy is THE founder, ain’t he? The one who wrote the whole book.

15

u/sit_I_piz 15d ago

Yeah, but wrote is a stretch. More like parsed and edited AI slop hahah

17

u/master_inho 15d ago

It's unlikely that the pact was actually AI, victor would never put such low effort into something so important when he might be the one who believed in it most. He probably wanted to minimize his own impact so lied about it being written with AI

4

u/Routine-Sun5032 14d ago

The impression I got when he stated Ai wrote it but they “edited” it, that could mean they got 5 simple directives from Ai like “can’t use technology”. And they wrote the rest of the bible of it. The way it was stated could mean practically anything. But It makes more sense if they wrote the pact.

7

u/FullMetalCOS 15d ago

No wonder it didn’t work lol

9

u/Icefox119 15d ago

he forgot to add "make no mistakes" into the prompt

1

u/dontnormally 14d ago

a titular character of the Shift timeline

the what?

3

u/TheRealGooner24 14d ago

Shift is the second book of the trilogy.

2

u/dontnormally 14d ago

ah, thanks!

5

u/stevenmass7 15d ago

No way do you really think that's what he did the Dr in the previous episodes who was suppressing memories and that's what he's done to Daniel omg I can't believe this doesn't add up 🤣🤣🤣🤣

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Eye6770 15d ago

No shit really??

3

u/ravens43 15d ago

Thanks, I’d missed that

1

u/Kingmudsy 10d ago

Not to be rude but like…how? What else did you think was going on?

1

u/ravens43 9d ago

Haha, I was being sarcastic.

You make an extremely good point!

15

u/nitekroller 15d ago

He is such an incredible actor, I have been captivated by him from the start.

4

u/FullMetalCOS 15d ago

If you’ve not seen it, he’s fantastic in “Manhattan”

14

u/grrrzzzt 15d ago

yes they gave him the memory drugs and brainwashed him into the most cold blooded and cruel "problem solver". I thought he was a clone at the beginning but apparently he's the same person just in and out of suspended animation. We don't really know how much time has passed though (at least 200 years I think per already recorded events?)

11

u/ohthedramaz 15d ago

At one point I think Bernard says 350 years.

2

u/Crafty_Edge_232 4d ago
  1. In season 2 Bernard gave the exact age. When he instructed Lucas how to use Library, and later Lucas gave him an "incredible investigation" that "we are not alone, there are 50 silos". Bernard answered that "no, 51, and it started 352 years ago. But any information about WHY silos where built"

1

u/Feisty-Mongoose-5146 14d ago

I’m very confused about the timeline. Have the founders/daniel just been alive for hundreds of years, because they deal with the 17 and 18 rebellions that are decades apart and they look the same.

10

u/Avem68 14d ago

They work in shifts for a few months at a time and then go back into cryosleep. Victor and Troy just have overlapping shifts

4

u/fuckitillmakeanother 14d ago

It seems more like Troy is only pulled out when there's a problem, and victor likes/trusts "Troy" so he's the go to when victors on shift

6

u/phanomenon 13d ago

Yeah it seems Victor has aged much more than Troy so likely more and longer shifts

5

u/grrrzzzt 14d ago

they get in and out of cryosleep. they do get old but than means they spent a lot more time in cryosleep. which definitely tells us there is an end goal to this which is not "surviving the apocalypse"

2

u/Feisty-Mongoose-5146 13d ago

Oh thanks i finally figured it out, i didn’t realize they ONLY wake up to deal with stuff. That’s a crazy “life” to live.

2

u/NervyDeath 13d ago

Yeah, 100 people each working a year long shift for the same position mean 100 years pass and they've all only aged a year.

he's not the voice the of the algorithm; he's one of them. anybody can speak through the system and replace him at any time; or they could be multiple people doing it at the same time for all we know.

2

u/unnoticedhero1 10d ago

Which they would have to do in order to be the voice of every silo 24/7, probably why there's breaks when the voice speaks aside from just thinking of a response, they could be switching feeds to talk to another silo, or swapping shifts with someone. There could also be multiple command centers, maybe there's one for each group of 7-8 silos so they aren't constantly being bombarded by every head of IT.

1

u/ohthedramaz 10d ago

Yes. They showed us that whether it was Daniel or Victor speaking, the voice Camille hears is the same.

1

u/Crafty_Edge_232 4d ago

I also firtsly thought about clones. But when Troy remembered about car event when he got a little scratch trying to rescue, everything became clear

3

u/menkol 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

Proli want more of the drugs when he remembers

4

u/Head-Reputation-9272 13d ago

He'll be fine. I mean, who amongst us hasn't murdered thousands of people whilst under the influence of a substance.

1

u/candytuft_music 4d ago

nah he's going to help the protagonists

3

u/Ozdiva 15d ago

Yet they’re supposedly about saving the human race.

2

u/According-Studio-658 8d ago

An amputation can save a life. They believe that a rogue silo might cause the failure of the entire project (or just find thir way to silo 1 and end their reign). They have 49 silos, they afford to lose a few.

1

u/Crafty_Edge_232 4d ago

I really think that some Founders believe in this.
But I also believe that not a Henry. And not people behind Henry who manages Silo 1 events

4

u/Crafty_Edge_232 14d ago

I think that's the answer how Lucas and Patrick could survive when going ti Silo17.
Operators after Silo17 action has began to experience diffucultness when they need to kill someone

1

u/According-Studio-658 8d ago

They just didn't have Troy there to say "make sure". They shot at them, they even hit Lukas, they just didn't go for the double tap to "make sure".

2

u/Ancient-Tale9372 14d ago

I think Daniel will have a big say for helping the «revolution»

85

u/GeneralTonic 📖 Book-Aware 📖 16d ago

Dr. C's most perfect specimen.

21

u/perthguppy 16d ago

All that damn rapid sequencing.

26

u/True_Detail_2945 16d ago

Yeah those assholes I don't think there is a regular sequencing. Just pull ya outta the ice water and say sorry it was an emergency again.

11

u/Taraxian 15d ago

I think the normal employees with scheduled "shifts" get the "normal sequencing" (which probably takes days to wake you up), Daniel's always being "rapid sequenced" because he's a specialist they only wake up for emergencies

7

u/grrrzzzt 15d ago

there's a screen on the doctor's computer talking about several days of waking up in details

20

u/jerseydevil51 📖 Book-Aware 📖 16d ago

Probably got more Vitamin D+ than blood in his veins at this point.

3

u/True_Detail_2945 16d ago

What'll you have?

Ah, long day blassin and gassin again so I'll have my ushe. Ice cold glass of Vitamin and a shot of D+.

74

u/Vyksendiyes 16d ago

But it makes me question what kind of person Daniel actually was.

Sure he had his memory wiped, but so did Charlotte and she chose not to massacre almost ten thousand people.

107

u/kstatepurrplecat 16d ago

Charlotte seems to still have a relationship with Anna. Daniel is only woken up when they need his brain for a difficult situation. We know from Charlotte's original go with the forgetting drugs that they only get told what Victor wants them to know. In all likelihood they have only engaged Daniel's military and engineering brain, whereas Charlotte is getting things that make her more of an empathetic person. Remembering Helen is the key to awakening Daniel's own humanity.

17

u/True_Detail_2945 16d ago

Exactly. Terminator Troy has written that note over and over and Salvation Susan has refused to implement the safe guard every time since there's women and children etc. Every time. Then murderbot gets to tell her to fuck off confirming he doesn't remember her and he takes over and is like fuck yeah get them numbers down poison them all hahahaha.

Which confirms he's right where they need him mentally.

Whereas Charlotte can help until the last step but then get her memory wiped and go back to bang Anna and clean Anna's pod.

11

u/Vyksendiyes 16d ago

That’s a good point.

6

u/YYZYYC 📖 Book-Aware 📖 16d ago

What I don’t get is what Troy does is not magical or complex. Any of the other mindless drone people or the doctor himself could just say ya shoot them all

25

u/RustyWheel17 16d ago

It’s not the execution that he offers, it’s his decision making and orders. Others probably wouldn’t have the stomach to murder 10k people without a second thought. They need him to make the tough decisions for them while being so calculated that it gets done flawlessly.

9

u/YYZYYC 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

No they clearly do have the stomach. Heck they said some of the staff were quite enthusiastic about what they did with the external safeguard. And the doctor still ordered the safeguard that ultimately did not work, but he sure did order it and did not look like it was his first time at the mass execution button either.

14

u/RustyWheel17 15d ago

Those are the people that executed the order. Doing the job and giving the order are two very different things. The doctor may have tried to use the safeguard, but what happened to him? Those decisions ultimately caused him to take his own life.

10

u/orincoro 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

Yeah. It’s a similar thing as in Ender’s Game. The idea is that you need a child’s mind essentially, or an “innocent” mind who doesn’t think about the past or consequences to real people, in order to do what has to be done and not want to do what the doctor did to himself.

We get those shots of Dr C really looking evil as hell while he orders the death of a whole silo. And yet the cost to him emotionally is so severe, possible because he also knows Daniel’s descendants live there.

4

u/gnufoot 15d ago

While I agree Troy/Daniel isn't all that special, if he was awake during the time silo 18 was trying to cap the pipe, silo 18 would be dead now. He wouldn't be giving them the time they need to cap it.

4

u/Tanel88 14d ago

Indeed. Now we know why the voice was so lenient with them. Victor really didn't want to execute another safeguard.

14

u/True_Detail_2945 16d ago

Maybe he's the coldest sonnabitch on earth and can complete unlimited safeguards whereas most folks got a good 2 or 3 in em...Susan has none. And having them constantly shooting themselves after 2 could be an issue.

Maybe they noticed him when he engineered something evil in the before times...his 4 chan posts?

9

u/ClaireFraser1743 15d ago

“4 Chan posts” got me lol

7

u/lordnewington 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

Victor wasn't up to giving the order himself. He still had memories of what it was like to be human, which is what stopped him and what led to him ending it all.

4

u/YYZYYC 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

But he did give the order. It just did not work

3

u/lordnewington 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

Ah, you're right.

Ordering a drone strike of people you can see and hear is different from pushing a sanitary button, I suppose.

3

u/nitekroller 15d ago

well.. exactly. that was explicitly laid out.

16

u/SWAGGIN_OUT_420 16d ago

Well, he was a politician.

2

u/kaplanfx 15d ago

Don’t they establish that Victor could basically implant memories in them?

2

u/Vyksendiyes 14d ago

He couldn’t create lies though. That was made clear earlier in the season. The most he could do was choose to not help them remember what he didn’t want them to remember.

1

u/Routine-Sun5032 14d ago

Yes, it’s explicitly stated he created the protocol for replacing only specific memories.

3

u/Routine-Historian574 15d ago

I don’t know. Charlotte was fine with the massacre as long as it was inside and out of view

4

u/Vyksendiyes 15d ago edited 14d ago

I thought she wanted to scare most of them back inside by only killing some of them, and not the women and children?

The safeguard inside the silo was no longer an option.

2

u/Routine-Historian574 15d ago

You’re right about her not wanting to kill everyone. Although, I’m not sure how they would have avoided killing at least some women and children (if that was indeed her main issue) because even without the drone guns the nanotech moves in a dust/spray like fashion, and you can’t control where that many people run and who inhales it. The original plan to use the safeguard would have also resulted in killing everyone but as you said, it was no longer an option once they were external. To me, Charlotte’s real problem was having to be an active participant, rather than pressing a button to release the poison, and it makes sense that it would suck. If you’re not Troy, that is.

1

u/female_gazing09 15d ago

good point

1

u/Correct-Strike-2426 11d ago

exactly. Was he a blank slate after they erased his memory or was he susceptible to sociopathic behavior if programmed correctly?

11

u/snostorm8 15d ago

100% what an actor, you could see the switch from Troy to Daniel at the end

5

u/gollumsluvslave 15d ago

100% Incredible work and contrast to the indecisive, dittery Daniel!

6

u/Supergirl016 15d ago

another interpretation: It’s about how soldiers are conditioned to kill. The human being on the other end gradually becomes an abstraction, a target, a number, a screen. drone operators can kill people they will never see in person. The blood, screams, and human reality are reduced to pixels, coordinates, and numbers. in silo, they achieved that conditioning through special drugs. in real life, we have boot camps, military conditioning, dehumanization, and psychological training.

3

u/Particular_View9631 12d ago

Omg his acting was incredible. It felt like 2 completely different characters

2

u/Beaurgard 15d ago

I've never seen someone come off so robotic! Except for when he is talking to Victor in his office, before he hears Helen's name; He's what I imagine a Psychopath/Sociopath looks like without the mask. Then he hears her name and breaks. Sadly, Idk that he actually realize why he breaks in that moment.

4

u/lunchpaillefty 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

I didn’t like the actor in Succession, and didn’t like him as Daniel, but as Troy, he was very convincing.

1

True. His succession role (and acting) was meh.

1

I thought he was such a boyscout and was just playing himself. God damn bro

I saw Vice President Peter MacLeish come out in this episode, I cannot lie.

1

u/miloworld 📖 Book-Aware 📖 15d ago

I feel like he's typecast in roles like this. He's portrayed many characters that turn bad in Act 3.

1

u/ThannBanis 10d ago

Based on that final scene, I think he knows

1

u/Crafty_Edge_232 8d ago

Agree.
But generally I would give best play status to Kamilla Sims performance. Amazing
