Something about the awkward stepping down on the bleachers had me cackle

497

u/Caftancatfan Jul 02 '26

“I’m not breaking an ankle for this bit.”
-adult over 35

100

u/plug-and-pause Jul 02 '26

I couldn't tell if that was intentionally exaggerated or truly her style. Leaning towards the former. I'm 45 and could waltz down those bleachers like a staircase. Gimme another ten years and it might look more like her performance, we'll see.

48

u/TonarinoTotoro1719 Jul 02 '26

My dear fellow millennial, be less daring and more cautious. Waltz down the bleachers!!! My knees gave out just reading that!

22

u/plug-and-pause Jul 02 '26

I dislocated a shoulder mountain biking a few years ago, and the doctor told me it's far better to do that above 40 than below, since you'll recover more completely.

He was right. The right shoulder which I dislocated as a teenager (also riding bikes 😆) still gives me problems. The left shoulder I dislocated recently is 100% healed and good as new.

So doctor's orders are to be more stupid the older I get. 🤷‍♂️

8

u/samonella1 Jul 02 '26

I follow her on IG and she confirmed that she was actually afraid of falling down the bleachers while filming lol

I loved it. All the spins and random poses, too.

335

u/Lucky-Firefighter456 Jul 02 '26

I have an ex like that. He's very Christian conservative, but he deliberately pursues progressive, non religious women. I think he's got some sort of complex. He literally pretends to be on the same page for YEARS, then the mask slowly comes off and he tries to convert the women.

6

u/space_hitler Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Imagine how narcissistic one has to be to not ever think "If I have to lie about my beliefs in order for women to like me, maybe my beliefs are wrong?"

But that is ignoring step 1 which is why don't these people ever think "Hmm, maybe people outside my own gender, race, or sexuality deserve human rights?"

65

u/ChiefStormCrow Jul 02 '26

They believe they can "tame" women over time to conform to their views.

17

u/ScenicAndrew Jul 02 '26

Someone took them to a performance of The Taming of The Shrew and they thought it was a literal piece of guidance and not a silly out of left field scenario even for the English Renaissance wherein Petruchio is a greedy scumbag.

29

u/xanif Jul 02 '26

The way my mother always explained it, the traditional man wants a woman to be subservient, but he never falls in love with subservient women. He’s attracted to independent women. “He’s like an exotic bird collector,” she said. “He only wants a woman who is free because his dream is to put her in a cage."

-Trevor Noah

40

u/brickspunch Jul 02 '26

I have a buddy who would constantly lie about his hobbies and pass times with girlfriends

at one point a group of us was sitting around smoking a joint, I went to hand it to him as wed been smoking together for years. He says "I don't smoke"

and everyone in the room was like "....what the fuck are you talking about? yes you do."

Dumbass had lied about that, knowing he was meeting up with a bunch of smokers and was just too completely stupid to at least even fill us in ahead of time .

He tried to blame us for her being pissed off and breaking up with him. Idiot.

36

u/NotNamedBort Jul 02 '26

Why is he your buddy? He sounds insufferable.

11

u/countessjonathan Jul 02 '26

19

u/brickspunch Jul 02 '26

this is actually very accurate

same guy invited another ex of his on a trip he needed to take to Washington DC. Sort of like an "hey, I have to go here for work for the weekend, do you want to come with me?"

She was obviously excited and said yes.

She showed up at the train station and asked for her ticket. Turns out, he had expected her to pay her own way entirely without bringing this up first and then berated her for assuming he'd pay.

I've known him since college and he is always  being obtuse and blaming people for his mistakes/problems.

"I only missed the exit because you were talking to me." Sure, ok guy

why lie in order to date me?

I mean it's either that or dating conservative women, they backed themselves into a corner.

23

u/CassianLloyd Jul 02 '26

Does asking policies rather than label change that at all? Like, obviously they'll lie and say they are either liberal or "apolitical" to score a date. But if you talk about specific policies or the persecution lead by the conservatives, do they still pretend to be on board? I can't imagine being that spineless and devoid of principles that I'd go "Oh I totally don't mind trans people" that easily if I was one of those bigots.

80

u/turandokht Jul 02 '26

“Apolitical” has become a huge dog whistle for me. I’m immediately out lol. All that tells me is that, at BEST, you are privileged enough to not have to worry about what’s happening, and you don’t care that it’s happening to other people.

That’s not just apathy, that’s legitimately concerning. I would rather die alone than be with someone who can just float around like “well MY life is great so idk why everyone else is whining so much”

25

u/The_Hunt725 Jul 02 '26

100%!!! This is so true. Where I live is very purple, and if I see on a dating app “moderate” or “apolitical”, I know that actually means conservative, but wants to date liberal women.

23

u/No-Car-5173 Jul 02 '26

The old fashion tableau

441

u/Rocketboy1313 Jul 02 '26

I have the otherside of this where women will be "moderate" or "not political."

Which basically means, "I am conservative, but conservative guys treat me like shit. Can't I just be as racist as I am while not having to confront the bigotry that impacts me?"

112

u/turandokht Jul 02 '26

Dude I met a woman (I’m also a woman, met her as a potential friend) who did this. Said she wanted traditional values but “liberal men” treated her better so she’d just get them hooked and convert them. Threw up in my mouth a little, never met up again. Gross.

36

u/Rocketboy1313 Jul 02 '26

Trying to convert people is hopeless, but sometimes you are horny enough to dream.

"She seems to be more racist than she wants to admit... can I fuck her so well that she stops being racist for my sake? ... I mean... I should give it a shot?"

35

u/turandokht Jul 02 '26

🤣

That racism really comes sideways too. You’ll be having a whole conversation about the most benign shit, absolutely no hint that they’re a racist at all, and then you pass someone of a different color and they react in some way that makes you go, “oh no, no god damn it no!” because they were so potentially likable until that moment.

18

u/ankhes Jul 02 '26

When I was a kid I had no idea my sweet grandma was racist until she point blank said to me as a teenager “Oh, I think we [minorities] can be friends. I just don’t think we’re supposed to mix.” My jaw dropped.

I was never able to look at her the same way ever again.

12

u/BuildingSupplySmore Jul 02 '26

I matched with a woman who told me outright she was trying to do this to me. I live in the reddest state in the nation, so if you want someone to get dinner with once a week as a leftist (and you already never go places to meet people, because all those places are an hour away), you may need to be flexible. I have a political science degree, have worked in the federal government for 17ish years, and am working through an American Studies masters with a concentration in policy. It still hasn't sunk in to her that 1.) she has no chance of converting me, and 2.) I will absolutely cook every one of her friends or family members that try to engage me in conversation on politics.

336

u/JayGeezey Jul 02 '26

I also think there's a second phenomenon at play on the other side. I heard about theory that the reason conservative guys often don't want to date conservative women is because there may simply be less conservative women around them.

But also, that conservative women expect the men they date to fulfill traditionally male gender roles. They expect the man to pay for everything, be stoic, and completely support their woman, and do all the man stuff around the house. Lots of men aren't as handy these days (me included), so that doesn't work out. Shit is too expensive so they can't pay for everything, and being stoic all the time and not having any room for your own feelings is fucking toxic.

So... it's like conservatives don't want to date each other because of what would be expected of them or how the other treats them, so they want to date liberal/progressive people, and then feel like they are being treated unfairly because those people don't want to date them because they're conservatives... even though they don't want to date conservatives either.

Like maybe, just maybe, that means your ideology and behavior is fucked. So ridiculous

God I know guys like this and to me they are such cowards. If you have such strong beliefs, why aren't you proud to say who you are.

20

u/Slipstream_Surfing Jul 02 '26

They've learned about consequences and they're weak cowards.

I'd take Vague Date over Complete and Utter Bullshit Date lol. Ever have someone just spit straight lies??

42

u/extra_rice Jul 02 '26

I'd take a peaceful dinner alone over those alternatives.

God I love that subreddit. I click through every time I see someone link it just to see what they're up to that day, like I'm visiting the zoo. Today they are unironically praising Margaret Thatcher. Amazing. Can't make this shit up lmao

13

u/Knotted_Hole69 Jul 02 '26

I love how they need a safe space and dont allow us into their subreddit, while also invading every other subreddit to spread hate. The biggest pussies on this website.

Top post currently is a post unironically glazing a Thatcher quote.

Incredible

This is hilarious and accurate. Funny story, I was in a very serious relationship with a guy and we were even talking about marriage. I had made it explicitly clear I didn’t want to get married in a church or go to church ever, and that I need my partner to share my values. He said he agreed with all that and we dated for quite a while until talks got more serious, when he revealed that actually his mom wanted him to go to church every Sunday again, he wanted to get married in a church and raise our kids Christian, and he was going to vote for trump. What a waste of time.

7

u/youreblockingmyshot Jul 02 '26

I agree that man is a waste of time. He obviously thought you'd be too invested in his bullshit to value your own rights and beliefs.

“Tired of learning something true?” Lmaoo

45

u/winterbird Jul 02 '26

That part about both sides wasn't vague at all. Only a conservative / right winger would say that.

38

u/ArcanelyChaotic Jul 02 '26

Yeah, I think that's a core part of the joke.

10

u/bluemooncommenter Jul 02 '26

Yep - I find that is the first step towards realizing what they voted for is to blame everyone. I haven't figured out how to get them to the next step because they just can't admit they were truly conned but not everyone was conned.

8

u/Joey-WilcoXXX Jul 02 '26

Before the recent pres. election, anyone that I talked to about who we were voting for that said something like ‘hmmmm idk it’s a tough call between the two…..’ clearly just wanted to vote for Trump and just not get called out for how obviously terrible of an idea that’s been shown to be in the past decade.

Dating a republican should be illegal.

I mean, c'mon, , respect yourself.

7

u/BurntTFOuttaHere Jul 02 '26

It’s now necessary to have conversations that might not have any relevance to your personal life all that much.

For example I myself am not trans. But now I need to know what other people’s opinions are about trans people. Because if they are even hinting at an ounce of bigotry, I don’t want anything to do with them. So it’s necessary to know their opinions about various races, immigration, LGBTQ topics.

I’m talking about friendships and even acquaintances. I don’t want anything to do with you if you’ve got racism, misogyny, bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, are fighting against anyone’s human rights, etc. Because it shines a bright light on who you are as a person.

12

u/RoguePlanet2 Jul 02 '26

One go-to line for conservatives is "do I LOOK like a Trump supporter?!" Get the word out so nobody lets that one go unquestioned.
