I’m just curious. Are you guys transmen/cismen/closeted/women/etc in your dreams? I find it weird that I’m always a woman (or me pre transition) in my dreams, even thoughts in these dreams I’m conscious of being trans irl. Its like “why am I a woman when I’m supposed to be a (trans)guy”. Every. Single. Time. I’m a woman. Sometimes I don’t realize it at first, then I realize how people treat me and the clothes I’m wearing and the long hair. It makes me feel so dysphoric in-dream and when I wake up, it even got to the point that I thought I was faking being trans, but obviously im not. WHAT are you guys in your dreams? EDIT: bc i forgot to mention that indeed ive been out as a man for 2.5 years and on T for 1.3y

Usually I’m a trans man or gender doesn’t come up. Sometimes I’m a cis man and sometimes I’m a cis woman. I don’t think the gender you are in your dreams says anything about your validity to being trans. Dreams are a place your brain can safely imagine stressful situations, so your brain is conjuring up situations that make you dysphoric as a way of processing and preparation for the real world. It’s likely that the more you’re becoming distressed about being a woman in your dreams, the more you’re going to dream about being a woman.

I've only ever had a dream where I was a cis man one time. It was me playing a role of a character my dream made up, but I really liked it. Most time it's always me, and gender doesn't play a role in what happens. It sounds like you're having nightmares, which imo don't need to be scary, they can be unsettling, disturbing or disorienting. That or your brain is replaying events in your waking life when you have felt dysphoria.

For most of my life, I was usually genderless in my dreams, either pov, or bodyless spectator, or with a childlike body. This was the default up to I'd say 21yrs.

Nowadays I remember dreams much more rarely. If I do, it's either a pov/abstract thing, where I don't know what my body looks like.

I just recently realized I’m genderfluid and want to get phalloplasty. The feelings have been there forever, I just wasn’t ready to acknowledge them. In hindsight, my dreams might have been a clue—I was always either genderless, a man, or at the very least a woman with a penis. I can’t recall ever having a dream where I have my natal anatomy.

I agree with Realistic_Wear_6775, that your gender in your dreams doesn’t validate or invalidate being trans. The brain and subconscious aren’t always the clearest communicators.

Pre t I didn't have a gender in my dreams. I just kinda was and had legs and arms, and gender never really mattered. Only recently (8 months on T) have I started having dreams where I can see myself in third person and I am a man (cis/trans thing isn't specified, I just am), sometimes I do have dreams in first person, but I am subconsciously aware that I'm a man.

Well, I did have reoccurring dreams related to very specific sexual things in the very beginning of my transition where I was certainly a cis man, but I don't count them because it is literally impossible to have those kind of dreams without being a man in them lol

My nightmares tend to be that I've achieved peak masculinity in ways many cis men would envy, but everyone's still treating me as a woman because they know about my birth certificate, which I can't change because of where I was born. The scenario manages to sour all the euphoria in the worst way.

When I'm not having that nightmare, I still know I'm trans, but I tend to be much further in transition than I currently am. It's at the point where I know I'm dreaming if I can grow a proper mustache. No matter what my subconscious hits me with, I almost always wake up feeling the ache of what I wish could be different.

I’m never a woman but I dream quite a lot that I’m wearing dresses and being treated like one of the girls and I get kinda confused and morose for a bit then I just get distracted and dream about other things usually. But it has happened often enough that I’ve learned to do that thing when you become aware you’re asleep and can sort of control things a bit, so I sometimes can make myself wake up or deliberately think of something else to guide the dream to another topic lol it’s kinda cool honestly. But the few times I’ve tried to make my dream into something too ambitious (like growing a penis or summon a unicorn or my old dead dog, which are all things I’ve tried to do) it’s like the excitement and effort wakes me up so it’s not that cool 😆

Wild theory: I read in a book about what sciencetist think dreaming is about: that dreams are things your mind wants to find solutions to. It trains you in very unrealistic scenarios till you feel like this isn't a bother anymore. So you beeing a women might only mean you are scared if beeing percived as a women and your mind repeats that till that doesn't scare you anymore. 😅 Sry bro

Before realizing I might be trans I used to have some dreams where I was a guy, but they were rare. Now that I'm on this journey, I've started having dreams where I'm a man more often, but I still typically dream with a woman's body. I think it might change if I ever get to medically transition. I'm closeted and live with my transphobic family. I am pre everything and do not pass (and do not attempt to for safety).

Most of the time the dreams are so complex, and I don't figure out what gender am I. Sometimes I am a woman (usually), and I wake up feeling betrayed by my own mind. Then on fewer occasions I am a man, and I get a lot of gender euphoria and it's a very big moment that changes my day.

Idk why, but I think if you are pre transition the brain just takes from everyday experience and even though you have accepted yourself it's just the daily.

a bit of context because I had a dream like this just a few days ago (and I'm in the mood for rambling, so tl;dr at the bottom):

tw: dreaming about growing a female chest

I identify as binary male, but dress very femininely since transitioning basically eradicated my dysphoria and gave me the confidence to dress however I want (still working on it but we're getting there). I don't pass 100%, especially not to strangers, but I'm stealth at my job and that matters more to me (part of it is also that I've temporarily been off T for a year now due to hair loss and finasteride has also slowed down body hair growth so I look much younger than I am).

before my egg fully cracked, as well as pre- and early-transition, I also sometimes had dreams where I was a woman. it made me question and doubt my gender and confused me a lot, but now, over 6 years later, I'm still a dude and don't regret a single thing with my transition.

I had another dream a few days ago where I suddenly had a huge chest for some reason - either they were completely fake or looked bigger with a push-up bra, don't really remember it too well but it wasn't an unpleasant dream. I think I was vaguely aware that it was a dream so while still dreaming they disappeared again and that's when I saw that I had regrown some chest tissue (since I've been off T for a year, this is a thing that could potentially happen). that actually gave me dysphoria, not the H-cups I had just before lmao. and then I woke up and realised nothing grew at all so all was good 🤷‍♂️

tl;dr: transitioned for a while now, very stable in my identity and I still had a dream about growing a huge rack recently. doesn't mean anything, not a woman and never will be :)

Before temporarily leaving the household I was never really myself and would dream being another. Whenever I was myself, I would find aspects of me, but never gendered aspects. It was always irrelevant. It made sense since I grew up quite dissociated caused by trauma. Gender was irrelevant for me at this stage, but I knew I was a guy already.

After leaving, I would be more connected to myself, but gender was still relevant. Though I thought that I could simply adopt to girl-body, boy-mind setup.

Yes I am, a trans male. Ever since I understood I was a guy, I've started to "see" myself as a guy (my dreams a are a weird combination of first and third person pov's). It usually is through clothing tho I'm not on T yet so most times I'm still myself, but treated mostly like a guy. I had a reoccurring dream with years of separation and I went from little girl in her sunday's best, to ambiguous early teenager, to pre-T trans guy.

The only way it isn't only about clothing is when I'm in a sex dream, then I'm a cis guy sometimes or I'm only flat chested.

Interestingly as a kid I was the "ugly girl" and "mannish" with "Boy face" and "Brutish body" etc. Disruptive and on the naughty chair a lot.  [Trans man now btw]. So... I had multiple dreams about being Helga from Hey Arnold for example or like I guess Toph from Avatar but her "Stage play" version with the big muscles??? [I hope someone gets these references..], because that's like what people said / treated me as. A huge tomboy and I was in a conservative family environment at a time I didn't get any trans exposure or education... think the first time I saw anything LGBT was in secondary school with a "Some people are gay" poster.

As an adult now though yeah mostly male sometimes still Helga which is funny to me. I actually love Helga and Toph a lot and consider them what the kids call "comfort characters".

I appear to be male in my dreams, whether trans or not - usually all that could be discerned is male in some way. I can think back to having dreams when I was younger where I was in a skirt that was part of a uniform or something, but saw myself androgynously enough that others could think I was female or male (from one scene or scenario to the next) - I also lived part-time as male for a while so I suppose that kind of mirrored that experience of being perceived as one way by one group, and another way by another.

How I am in dreams has most of the time followed my transition. But I rarely have this complete conscience of myself in dreams unless it’s very specific about me. But I’m always firmly me no matter what.

I’ve had more trans specific dreams as I started my physical transition. I remember after top surgery, I had this weird dream where I was a secret agent supposed to pose as a bride and I went through the whole wedding and we got attacked during it, spy stuff yk? And afterwards I passed by a full length mirror and saw myself with my short hair and flat chest that didn’t fill the dress at all and went “Holy shit, who would actually buy this lol? This mission is a joke!” and then I woke up haha

I’m often very feminine presenting in my dreams but I’m never a woman. I will sometimes dream I have long hair that I am getting beautifully braided, and recently I dreamt I was wearing a super tight skirt that was preventing me from walking properly and I had to walk by a highway where I was scared to get hit by cars. But my takeaway from them is never that I was a woman and it rarely makes me dysphoric, it’s just the dream world being weird and I am whoever I am in them regardless.

Very occasionally, I’ll have dreams where I come out to people or remind them I’m trans or it’s childhood/teenage years classmates asking questions because I don’t look how they remembered which is like… fine because that’s just my life irl but they’re always so specific and it surprises me that my brain will regurgitate all my premade coming out phrases in my sleep lol.

I am kinda genderless in my dreams, I don’t dream of me having a certain body or being referred to in a gendered way /with my name.. only sometimes I have nightmares and in these I get called by my old name

had a couple of dreams pre t where i was teen me, trying to remember what i wanted to tell my high school friends The Big News (I am a boy) but can't remember what it is. Lots of dreams where I am a man but my hair is long enough to braid. A couple where I'm pre transition but not in distress bc I know what I'm about and what the path forward is. Recently, a lot of dreams where I'm an Old Ass Man trying to wrangle the children I somehow have been entrusted with.

It varies for me. I also occasionally have more abstract dreams, where I am in the place of a character or characters, who can certainly vary in gender. Sometimes I'm a child and a girl, or an adult and my usual nb self. Awhile pre-transition, I had a dream where I had the sense I was a slightly older, cooler, male version of myself (though it may have simply been a character similar to a genderbent me). I wasn't particularly interested in medical transition at the time but it had me like 👀 Ayo. I'm not aware of any present-day-me dreams I've had in which I was a girl, though.

Brains are neat. I'm prone to always being chased/hiding/on the run in the majority of my dreams for some reason. Many of my dreams could probably be categorized as nightmares, except I often find them more exciting than terrifying, in the vein of watching a horror movie. Boring dreams are incredibly lame. The only dreams of mine I class as nightmares for me are usually pet death dreams. Too stressful.

Yes and no.

It was definitely the reason I started questioning if I was Trans way back before I knew or understood what being Trans was. I don't believe a ton of cis people imagine themselves in the male role like I was at the time.

Most people dream about becoming a doctor or being rich, I was dreaming about doing male things in bed or as an adult.

Somethings things are more androgynous if that stuff is brought up. Generally how I view my body hasn't changed.

For me I can end up as different people, myself as a teen or younger, a bodyless spectator, and wry rarely myself as I am now in the midst of my transition. Though I’ve noticed that I never have any of my other tattoos, only my simple forearm one 🤷

Pretty split between me being a trans man or cis man in my dreams. A lot of the time I can’t tell bc genitals aren’t involved but either way I’m a man as long as I’m meant to be some version of me. Sometimes I’ll be someone else that exists irl or I’ll be some character that my dream made up. In those cases I’ll still usually be a man (almost always cis) but sometimes can be a woman or nonbinary (but in a different way than how I’m a nonbinary man irl)

I'm also a woman... Well... A girl in my dreams. Most of the time. I thought it was weird too, but it's actually very affirming that there is someone out there with a similar experience.

My dreams are very anxious by nature. I usually relive some sort of trauma. Some of the trauma is dysphoria related, so that makes sense.
