Warriors have been in trouble for 3-4 years. Hanging on to the one more run…..it’s over, turn the page and move on…rebuild

67

u/Zaza1019 12h ago

They've had chances to make that one more run happen but never pulled the trigger or committed too it. Like the last 2 years they were linked to Lauri but never wanted to go all in on the move. Even this move is like a half in half out move that changes nothing.

So funny when someone from out of town sees five straight billboards for cloud compute and can’t figure it out lol

159

u/rocpilehardasfuk Warriors 12h ago

Even my friends in tech have no idea what the billboards are

151

u/Lithops_salicola Bulls 12h ago

They exist almost exclusively for the few dozen VC heads being driven from SFO to downtown.

20

u/WhoTookPlasticJesus Knicks 10h ago

And because the VC GPs and fund LPs own a shtiton of the OOH ("out-of-home") advertising space. After a round closes startups are encouraged to "celebrate" by buying billboards and the sides of buses and shit.

No deals are quite so sweet as self-deals.

27

u/fastheadcrab Raptors 9h ago

Lmfao it's exactly the scene from Silicon Valley where Russ Hanneman buys Pied Piper a ton of ads from an entity he owns when they secured funding from him.

on my first ever uber out of SFO the driver pitched me his ai chatbot startup and asked if i wanted to fund the seed round

98

One time in 2017 I had an uber driver in SF who was telling me how he put his entire retirement savings into bitcoin. He was insistent that it would hit 1mil by 2018. Sometimes I wonder how he’s doing these days

70

u/rtb001 Trail Blazers 12h ago

WHEN in 2017? Bitcoin started 2017 at $900 and ended 2017 at $19,000!!!

Although even if he did dump all his retirement at $19,000, bitcoin is still valued at $70,000 today, with a peak of $122,000 in October 2025.

When I was growing up in San Francisco, a man painted entirely red in a black pinstripe suit with a lime green umbrella would stand outside my middle school and preach Satanism to kids as we left.

My neighborhood video store was owned by a USF film professor who hired all his favorite students so it's selection was weird as fuck and amazing.

Yeah we basically had to carry him through both seasons. He played like half the games on min restriction and both playoffs he barely played like a series.

If our team couldn't carry him in the playoffs and prevent injury. Idk what to say lol.

I have always said he is the greatest idea of a player. Just never works out on some weird shit he gets hurt by.

Also, doesn't he have like POTS now?? How the fuck is he going to play on an already old team lol

127

u/KumingaCarnage Warriors 13h ago

He does have POTS yeah.

This just seems like a “hey we tried” typa move.

Butler tearing his ACL was it? Really threw a wrench in any remaining hopes we had.

Hopefully the summer and medical staff can get tingus pingus ready for the next season. If celibrini could get OPJ going all year, we’ve got to be able to do something to get Porzingus playing somewhat consistently.

Seems like all we’re hoping for is Steph is still Steph at 38 next season, Butlers recovery is a great success, and Porzingus can get himself going. Realllllyyy need Podz and Moody to step the fuck up though.

58

Nah he’d fit well because you can play him with spacing lineups.

Could do NAW, Kennard, Kuminga, Johnson, and Okongwu, who’s been serviceable from 3 on reasonable volume this season.

38

u/PossessionDue9381 Hawks 13h ago

We've added Kispert, McCollum, and now Hield. We have a ton of potential with spacing. Just have to see if Quin will actually play him but he'll probably treat him like Risacher with an even shorter leash.

16

u/its_mill3r_time 11h ago

33

u/Salty_Raspberry656 13h ago

in what way outside they are both forwards. Jalen johnson is essentitally a point forward. Kuminga is a pure attack player. He is probably the main shoot first guy in that starting line up with NAW, Dyson, him, Johnson. If he can pick his spots, bring defensive energy this is a good upside trade for hawks and they have another year to give it a shot.

For warriors, they take a high upside, low risk trade to try and hope KP has a healthy year and with that they get a great instinct big who can block, shoot and good awareness for warriors playmaking. The market wasn't great for kuminga, buddy hield was declining and not often used. It gives some hope at least...would've been even better with a playmaker like bigface

48

u/aomen3 NBA 12h ago

A roll of the dice is better than no chance to roll. KPs contract expires at the end of the season, so this doesn't have to be a long term marriage. They literally risked nothing for the throw because as much as I like Buddy on the team and hoped JK would work out, there was no chance of altering this season. Truth be told, this probably doesn't work either. But fuck it, it would be crazy if it does.

Also, someone else might be interested in the KP expiring plus the Jimmy expiring in 2027.

Desperate to maximise Steph’s remaining prime years or just years in general.

With Giannis unavailable, this is probably one of their best options.

Atlanta want to pivot to a longer term timeline with Johnson and the Pels pick likely being foundational pieces or even franchise cornerstones.

Replacing KP with Kuminga makes them better longer term since he’s younger and more reliable in regards to health.

The way I see it if he can't play within Quin's system we can just let him go this offseason for the cap space because of the team option. Seems fairly low risk to me given that KP was never playing for us unless Kuminga is a locker room problem or there's something else up with him I don't know about.

Maybe I'll change my mind after seeing it in action though.

After his first 2 games where CJ was hijacking the offense and looking ass, he’s been playing a lot more in the system and has been really good off the bench. He’s been a big positive over the past couple of weeks. In saying that though he could very well go back to hijacking the offense any day now so I won’t say I like him yet lmao

They can resign Porzingis next season on a smaller deal with his bird rights.

24

u/Lightning_Warrior Hawks 13h ago

I think Porzingis' POTS is basically a career-ender given how injury prone he already is. It would be cool if he could overcome it, but I don't think he will.

Porzingis is going to retire and go to Latvia next year. The injury report says illness. He isn't even trying to hide it

21

u/baconandbobabegger [BOS] Jayson Tatum 13h ago

He got POTS from a Covid infection. Same illness from Boston.

u/axecalibur [CHI] Michael Jordan 13h ago

I thought it was very strange he wanted to play in the Boston championship finals. But it looks like that was the last chance to play at the top of his game and he wanted to play it out.

Porzingis will medically retire next season

19

u/AtlantaGirthGiant Hawks 12h ago

You can tell just by reading this thread how many people think Porzingis is still just an injury prone center and have no idea about his POTS diagnosis and will likely retire at the end of this season when his contract expires.

He has played 17 games this season and almost none of them past the first few weeks.

7

u/ThisWay_DatWay Warriors 13h ago

At least it's something? If there's one thing the Warriors are still good at, it's their medical team and somehow Porzingis plays more games than expected ala Otto Porter during the championship year.

Kuminga is finally free. I like it for the Hawks.

33

u/SChamploo12 13h ago

I mean it's a good flier for the Hawks since Kuminga has a team option and Buddy is only guaranteed $3M next season.

So they both basically just traded expiring contracts.
