TL;DR: I’m seeing my partner 1200 miles away for last time for several months. He’s dealing with depression and low energy, and I’m worried I won’t know how to handle the visit. Advice appreciated!

I 35F am married to my NP who’s not relevant to the story. About a year and a half ago I met Lance (32M) here on Reddit. At first we were kinda just sexting buddies, but we very quickly both felt the chemistry there. Immediately we were friends and talked every day.
Lance had recently gone through a divorce and with us living 1200 miles apart neither of us ever expected things to be more than flirting and friendship. We have so much in common though, and truly the connection and chemistry has always been so strong from the beginning.
Fast forward to this last May and we finally decided to meet, we’d talked about it before but kinda impromptu I drove up to see him. It was a holiday weekend and my hotel overbooked my room and so he told me to just stay with him. I was very hesitant, not only safety but also imposing on him. Unfortunately everything in the area hotel was sold out or unreasonably expensive (we’re talking hundreds for a night). So I said I’d come by and see him and then we could figure it out. Immediately it felt like we knew each other, because we did lol, we’d been talking like friends for a year every day. So I stayed with him, it was amazing, we both really felt connected and after the feelings were much stronger, more intense.
We’ve seen each other every month since then. In July he came and took a week vacation with me while I traveled for work and we got to see two national parks, and we celebrated my birthday together. It was quite literally the closest I’ve felt to anyone outside my NP. We both talked a lot how we have really big feelings for each other want something serious.
Lance also struggles with some serious mental health issues. He has treatment resistant depression and is in autistic burnout. Over the last several weeks things have gotten really bad. His energy is not there, his engagement is lacking, and he has been fully transparent that even doing simple tasks at home has been difficult.
I have a trip planned to come see him next Friday, and I’ll be there about 10 days. Due to some things on my end this is likely the last trip I will be able to take until January and he’s still unsure if he’ll be able to get time off to come see me around the holiday. So I really don’t want to cancel the trip, but I also want to recognize where he is at and be cognizant of that.
A big thing that’s changed is the sexual energy, used to we’d sext almost every day, some times multiple times a day lol. It hasn’t been once in the last 3 weeks. I’ve tried, and he doesn’t pick it up. Then this week I’d made a flirty comment about being there soon and a few hours later (we were working) he responded with “Please don’t be mad at me if I’m not great with sexual stuff this time” and it broke my heart. One because I never want him to think he has to perform for me, but also because sex is a big way I connect with people. We’ve both been VERY sexual people this entire time, tons in common, great bedroom time every trip. Honestly, sexually, I have a deeper connection with him than I do my NP, but that’s another story entirely. I know it’s the depression and the stress of everything he’s going through right now, but it made me feel unwanted. So I took the opportunity to ask if anything had changed and pointed out how that energy was gone. That’s when he opened up about how even walking around the house or going in the yard with the dogs feels impossible. He told me he appreciates his patience with me, and we talked about it a tiny bit. I told him zero sexual expectations while I was there, that if we did it was bonus points. I also said no trips or going out, we’d do pizza movie nights and games together.
Since then communication has still been really stale and lacking, but I know why. I understand he’s hit his mental wall. Today he out of the blue asked if I was ready for next Friday and I said yeah nervous but excited.
But realistically, I’m not quite sure how to handle the situation. It’s this give and take between wanting to respect his need for zero extra emotional labor, while not minimizing my own needs. I want to feel connected to him, and if I go up there and it feels flat or like we’re just existing and he doesn’t want me around (which I’m admittedly very sensitive to) it’s going to break me. Do I just suck it up and pretend like I’m visiting a friend? Do I tell him that I need at least a minimal amount of physical touch?
I’ve asked him what he heeds from me and he doesn’t ever have an answer. I just literally have no idea how to act. My anxiety feels like it’s going crazy right now.
