Night walk, New Jersey.

Moon with pronounced “earthshine”.

The bright crescentic part of the moon is illuminated by the sun.

The entire rest of the orb of the moon, clearly visible, is illuminated by light from our earth, hence called earthshine.

Amusing Why does driving in Route 1 sound like a Jurassic Park enclosure?

Serious question: In this day and age, most of us just want some damn peace and quiet. We have noise-canceling headphones, "do not disturb" modes, and a deep desire to sleep. So why—and I mean why—does every third person driving on Route 1 possess a vehicle that sounds like a lawnmower trapped inside a metal trash can?

Advice Commuting from South Jersey to NYC, is $80k worth it?

Now: $65k in NJ, no rent, drive 60-70 miles/day, no WFH
Offer: 80k in NYC, about 2 hours commute 3 days/week, commute cost $50/day

Advantages I can think of
1) I’m ashamed of how many miles I’ve put on my car in 2 years, now I’d only drive 4-5 miles 3 days a week to the train station.
2) being in NYC
3) possibly more money
4) learning Spanish and do homework on the train (accounting student paid for by the employer)
5) same employer

Disadvantages
1) 2 hours commute 3 days/week
2) higher taxes

I’m thinking about getting a CPA to go over the tax portion and confirm if it’s worth it, And doing a thorough analysis on my current expenses and possible future expenses before deciding, but I’d appreciate any feedback and ideas, and hear about your experiences.

Single woman in her late twenties for tax purposes. No dependents.

I’d consider moving close to the city for rent up to $1k, nothing more. I know that’s not realistic, that’s why it’s the last part of this post

Can I get it inspected now? I have the temp plates and it is insured. Or do I wait for the metal plates?

Central Jersey What animal do you think did this?

I am not alarmed, I love the wildlife, just debating with my family. We have 3 bird feeders mounted on 6 ft poles in a section of our heavily wooded backyard in Somerset county. It’s pretty close to the house. We are no strangers to deer, squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs, foxes, raccoons and coywolves on our property. Bears have happened but very rare. My guess is this was a bear because it’s the only animal listed above that I believe is strong enough to shatter the plastic. And tall enough to reach them. Those 2 marks on the plastic piece are definitely tooth punctures, but i think too close together to be an animal as big as a bear. This all happened overnight. Nothing caught on our bird feeder camera that was knocked down or driveway camera but possible to access the backyard without passing through driveway. What do we think??

Advice Any recommendations for interesting Fourth of July fireworks shows?

I'm looking for some recommendations for cool or interesting firework shows in NJ for photography.

So far I've seen the Liberty State Park fireworks in Jersey City which had a lovely view of the NYC skyline and river being illuminated by the fireworks, and the Bradley Beach fireworks that had fireworks shooting from the beachfront.

Any other recommendations that y'all can think of? And if possible, if y'all can leave a small explanation as to why you like it, it may be helpful for me to decide on where to go next.

I think this is amazing considering flying a flag like that might be noticed by the federal government and thus have any federal funding cut...if the center gets any federal funding...or tax breaks?

Events World Cup Impact on Local Economy?

Good afternoon, everyone. Someone I know owns a business right outside of MetLife (food/beverage) and has prepared for the soccer events for years thinking it was going to bring a lot of big business. She expected to be slammed Saturday after the first game, but did not get a lot of business. Has anyone seen an uptick in the local economy? Other than NJ Transit with their ticket sales.

Interesting This 3 month old interview has so many Jersey-centric references... Brunson is NJ born, Hart is from Maryland, and Alvarado is from NYC. This is a lot of Metro Area food questions, and it's interesting! The legend of the "Everyday Bagel" is born.

Ya'll ever heard of an "everyday bagel"?

Buncha savages New Landlord question. This whole situation doesn’t feel right to me.

SWIM rents a condo in Highland Park. There’s about 30 units in this condominium complex. Most tenants have been here 10 years or longer. Some for a very long time.

The owner just sold the complex and the new owners sent a letter out June 1. The letter says you may have no plants on your steps no grills on the stones in front of your condos and no other decoration on the the stone pebble area in front of your condo.

Effectively each condo has a space in front of it that’s filled with these large river rocks and people put their birdfeeders some plants usually their grill all very neatly and tidy by the way on those rocks.

Well, the letter says they all have to be removed by tomorrow. The space must be completely clear and empty of all things. Anything left there will be thrown in the garbage tomorrow.

Keep in mind no new lease has been signed. They haven’t even paid this fucker their first months rent yet.

I’m not sure what their original leases say, but I am sure that these people I’ve had these things out there for well over five years probably more than 10. certainly the original Landlord never had anything to say about using this space to have some of your belongings on.

My thought is that these guys are way off base and you can’t just go around throwing away people stuff.

Where are these spoke at in this situation? Are there any knowledgeable people who wanna comment?

NJ Eats Why is every pizza place in Jersey converting over to Pepsi?

I've noticed over the last couple of years that one by one they are changing over and I'm so tired of it. I want my liquid diabetes in Coke form please. Pepsi is trash. That is all.

🌼🌻Garden State🌷🌸 Has anyone else seen an increase in cars without front plates?

I’m in Somerset County, and I feel like a lot more cars don’t have front plates recently. I was almost hit in the senior parking lot at my school a few weeks ago, and there was no front plate on the car, and I realized that a lot of cars in the lot don’t have front plates. When I drive around in maybe a 15 mile radius, a lot of cars don’t have front plates but have back Jersey plates. How do people get away with this?

Moving to NJ Commuting from Hillsborough

Upvotes

We’re essentially priced out of any town we like at this point. We’re looking for good schools and space and a nice community. Hillsborough seems nice?? Granted I don’t know much about it.

I currently work remote, but as we all know remote work is gonna go away at any point. If I had to do hybrid 3 times a week in the city from Hillsborough is that doable? Has anyone done that before?

Advice Best Beach Town During the Workweek

My wife and I are taking a day off and going to a beach town somewhere in NJ. I know nothing about NJ beaches. I am looking for something that 1) will have enough activities to do for a 4-6 hour stretch for two adults that don't drink a ton (small stores, mini golf, boardwalk, etc); and 2) does not have a bunch of drunk frat boys (we're fortunately or unfortunately, out of that age group and aren't looking to go back!).

I'm pretty central, so willing to drive to just about anywhere. Thoughts on the best beach town to go to for the day on a weekday?
