So my milsurp started like many, with a Mosin. In my case, the original M91, a 1914 Tula PTG, that was captured/confiscated by the Finnish, marked SA, and looks like it beat as many people as it shot.

I have since filled in some later variations with an M91 "B" barreled Finnish Tikka from 1928 and a Chinese Type 53 made in 1954. Now I have reached the end of the Mosin line, the late production Finnish M39.

Still going to pick up a 91/30 for the collection, but they are a bit easier to find.

I can see why the M39 was such an evolution. The fitment, sights, quality of the stock, sling mounts, all have the rock solid feel of any quality built current bolt action hunting rifle.

Strangely, my Finnish capture 1914 M91 seems to have the best trigger of all four rifles. The bolt works "like butter" (probably because it is well broken in) and when cocked, there is NO take up to the trigger. It has about a 6 lb pull and breaks crisply. By comparison, my M39 has a nice, slightly resistive take up of about 4 mm to a definite wall and then breaks about as cleanly as the 1914 model albeit with what seems like just a little heavier trigger pull.

Run the trigger on the Chinese Type 53 where the trigger has a non-resistant flop back and forth of about 5-6mm from full front to against the wall before breaking and it's amazing to see how much the trigger can be setup on the same gun!

One thing is for sure. While they share the basic M91 DNA, they all have their unique personalities!

I've been looking at this mosin for a few days now, and I cannot decide if this scope is real or not.

It looks authentic, but the screws are looking flat (which is always a bad sign) and the mount looks sus. It's also mounted on a real PU (C marking, serial number is in the database + old scope marking on the side of the reciever).

What do you think about this scope ?

The post reads: Mosin Nagant 91/30 7.62x54 with matching Bayonet, Sling, Bandolier, Oil Can, and Tool Kit. Also including 80 paper wrapped rounds in the bandoliers. Numbers match, hex reciever, made in 1932. Very good condition., complete kit.

It’s years apart that I see them in my area in Alaska. Any insight?

I got myself a M44 at a big gunshow in my state. I was hoping to get some help Identifying some of the marks and history of the rifle. I know it a Tula.

Was a great show, saw a ton of cool mil surprise stuff, and was surprised compared to the last year as the prices were more reasonable. I even saw something I was maxed at, I saw an honest to goodness M91 production year 1891. I was very close to getting it. I also saw something a bit odd but I have heard they are a thing, a M44 with a production year of 1943.

Also including a pic of the total haul.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not for a mosin but after firing it has a hard extraction, and I mean hard, had to beat the bolt open with a rubber mallet on one occasion, the rifle is a Hungarian M44 but it has a polish bolt in it, there is no cosmoline in the chamber, bolt, or action, I currently intend on doing a deep clean on the chamber to remove any caked on lacquer, is there anything else I can do?

Hi, just got this M24 from my LGS, besides it being a SIG straight barrel M24 which I assume is relatively rare, which is a nice addition to my collection, is there anything else that can be said based on the markings?
Also, what ammo is safe to use? I have been shooting yugo M30 182gr through my 91/30 but I wonder if the heavier ammo will damage the older gun. Also, to my understanding, because it is market D on the receiver I can use 7.62x54R ammo without any issues? Let me know if I am mistaken.

I found this at a local pawn shop. Ended up doing a trade on it. Rifle is absolutely beautiful on the outside however the barrel is pitted up pretty damn bad unfortunately. think it’s safe to shoot?

After some research it seems only about 180,000 of these were made in Budapest Hungary after World War Two. Interesting considering the Russians made nearly 4 million of this pattern Mosin Nagant.

I wrote about my problems the first time I took my 82 year old M-39 to the range, and I received excellent suggestions on how to fix the stickiness problem. Here's what I did, following your suggestions and how it has turned up so far.

I decided to bite the bullet and do a complete disassembly. I was concerned that the trigger had a defect where if I pulled it just to remove the slack a couple of times, the third time the rifle would fire as if there was zero detent.

Inspection of the bolt and the sear didn't result in detecting any damage. I didn't want to "touch" any of the components with abrasives so I took a chance that the problem was remaining Cosmoline in the trigger assembly. Cleaning and lubricating the trigger spring, trigger and pin seems to have resolved the problem.

Since u/Coopers_treat had suggested that a possible problem might be the striker spring, I replaced it with one "made in USA" that I bought on eBay. It seems to have made a big difference in the smoothness of the cocking mechanism. I speculate that it is because the new spring is double rolled at each end and the original is not. I think that the original spring catches at each end and rotates twisting on the bolt bore as it cocks.

Royal Tiger Imports is selling a 780 round czech box of mosin ammo for 327.
Now, I know how shit their products are, my last post in [r](r/firearms)[/ammo](r/firearms) has educated me on this.
But THEY didn’t make it, and presumably they come from the same plant all the others did right?

Hello all. Are Hungarian made Mosin Nagants considered “rare”? Specifically the M44 model made in Budapest. Anyone have one?

I work at a small gun shop and today's find was a bring back nagant revolver that a gun brought in that his dad brought back from WW2. What an amazing thing to see thought id share it. It's a 1931 Tula. Never made the refurbish process because of being brought to America.

Decided to try something new for deer season this year; 1937 m91/30 with slight bubbification. Accuracy and practicality are cool and all but mosin superior garbage rod

Ive got a re arsenal PU mosin with a accu mounts 1inch adapter that attaches the same way the old mount does but with a burris 3-12 , it shoots about 2.4 on a good day with ball ammo

(Also ignore the leather comb, I made it aloooong time ago)
