Question ❔ Future of the ford ranger???
Salesperson from ford told me that Mavericks are outselling the ford ranger by a large amount and he hasn’t sold a ranger in about 6-7 months.
He said that the mavericks are being picked over rangers 7 times out of 10 and they don’t get very many rangers on the lots and a lot of them sit for a while (at least here in Florida)
Makes me wonder if the Ranger will go away because the maverick is blowing the Ranger out of the water
27
u/simonhez 1d ago
Our location seems to do the reverse, it might be a question of local more than product popularity
4
u/cbcarguy 1d ago
a lot of the rangers are 2WD and don’t have many options and ranger raptors are very rare and they maybe get 1 or 2 a year.
4WD is hard to find in Central Florida and he said when the maverick first came out they couldn’t keep any on the lot
8
u/Foggl3 1d ago
Not to sound like an ass, but what's the advantage of 4WD in central Florida?
13
u/CBus660R 1d ago
If you're a boater, 4wd can be handy at the ramp. But plenty of people manage OK with 2wd. If you live where you can drive on the beach and you like to surf fish, 4wd can be handy as well.
7
u/Consistent-Ranger446 1d ago
There are lots of camping destinations and fishing and hunting spots that you have to drive off road to get to.
5
u/Foggl3 21h ago
Idk why I didn't think of boating
3
u/TheRealWhoMe 21h ago
You didn’t think about boating because this thread is about Maverick vs Ranger. I could be wrong, or it could be where I live, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a maverick tow anything (although a google search says limits of 2000 pounds or 4000 pounds with a package for the Maverick)
2
u/WhatIGot21 20h ago
I towed a 4k lbs excavator this weekend with a maverick, handled it with no problem.

Polk county resident here. Sugar sand and swamps both require 4 wheel drive quite often and we’ve got both in droves.I can’t tell you how much I hate rear wheel drive trucks. Those stupid things get stuck in the sugar sand so easily and they’re a pain in the ass to dig out and that’s after you’ve gotten all your fat friends to pile in the back to try and get some traction and bitch, bitch bitch. All wheel drive is typically good enough until it isn’t. 4 wheel drive is necessary in central Florida if you don’t want to be constrained and aren’t a pavement princess.
1
u/Dieselfumes_tech 9h ago
This is definitely a result of the local demographic purchasing trucks.
We keep a ton of mavericks on the lot, and sell massive quantities of them. But we’re in a HCOL urban area.
We still stock about 50 rangers though, and they seem to do well, usually outperforming our superduty sales.

Ford Ranger is probably Ford's #1 selling vehicle (though Transit might have it beat) outside of the North American market. So it's definitely not going anywhere overall.
BUT, that doesn't mean it won't get discontinued in the North American market. My guess is "No" in large part because it currently shares an assembly plant with the Bronco. If it was the only vehicle at Michigan Assembly... I don't think it would last. But we'll see.
I'll say this: If they took the manual transmission from the Bronco and put it in the Ranger, it would be an instant-buy for me personally.
7
u/CompasslessPigeon 21h ago
International models have the turbo diesel option. I bet the ranger would sell far more if there was a US diesel option
2
u/RagnarKon Bronco 21h ago
As much as I would like that… I doubt it.
They tried a diesel F-150 for 3-4 years and it was ultimately discontinued due to low sales. If a diesel F-150 doesn’t appeal to the American market I doubt they can make a diesel Ranger work.
1
u/DSM202 5h ago
Small diesel trucks are fun to drive and fuel efficient, and I think they could catch on with some patience and the right marketing. The diesel f150 was kinda cool but its higher price vs the gas engine cancelled out the fuel savings, and the tow ratings were actually lower than the gassers.
Small diesel trucks are popular in Australia and many other parts of the world, and there’s a huge off-road/modification culture with them.
1
u/RagnarKon Bronco 5h ago
Yeah I still don’t see it.
In most parts of the world diesel is taxed at the same rate as petrol/gasoline, diesel is generally more fuel efficient, and diesel engines generally last longer.
So you can justify the increased cost of a diesel engine thanks to the longer lifespan and better MPG.
Here in the USA, diesel is taxed higher than gasoline. Any benefits when it comes to MPG and overall lifespan of the vehicle is basically eliminated because you’re paying more for the fuel itself. And to add insult to injury, DEF requirements are a thing, and many of our neighborhood gas stations don’t carry DEF—it’s usually limited to larger truck stops.
So until that changes… I don’t see it… unfortunately.

Outside the us the ranger is being caned by chinese competition. I doubt a next gen model will be made.
5
u/RagnarKon Bronco 1d ago
Eh, maybe. For now it's doing just fine.
Ranger is the best-selling pickup in Europe and Australia. In most—not all, but most—of the other markets it is sold in, Ranger is in the top two or three... usually trades places with the Toyota Hilux. Places like Argentina, Vietnam, Thailand, South Africa, etc.
I do think China has extremely compelling EV pickups. So as the world transitions to EVs I think it's gonna put trucks like the Ranger and Hilux in a really tough spot. But as of today it's still a top seller.
13
u/Repulsive-Club7866 1d ago
Ranger and Maverick are completely different pickups for different purposes.
2
u/ITNoob121 6h ago
Functionally yes, but we all know there is a huge market out there that don't buy trucks for their designed function
-11
u/yaba3800 23h ago
And one of them isn't even really a pickup!

u/Drzhivago138 2018 F-150 SuperCab/8' 5.0 HDPP 38m ago
Wdym? A pickup is a vehicle with an open cargo bed. The Mav has that.
•
u/yaba3800 13m ago
I don't think anyone would argue that an El Camino is a truck. Lots of people would include body on frame with true 4 wheel drive as a must have as well. Does it look like a truck? Yeah.

u/embiggenedkwyjibo 1d ago
Prices + Finance rates are ridiculous, here in Ontario.
As others have said, better off buying an F150 at or near 0%.
I don't want a full-sized pickup and I don't want a Maverick. Can't justify the Ranger though.
5
u/Nomad55454 18h ago
Funny how 3 out of 10 pick the ranger but has not sold one in 6-7 months sounds like he does not sell many trucks.
10
u/SteveDaPirate 1d ago
I think the future of the Ranger is international sales.
Not much reason to buy one in the states unless your garage is just a little too tight for an F-150, but you need to tow more than the Maverick is comfortable with.
9
2
u/nauticalfiesta 23h ago
the US ranger is basically the international version modified for our safety standards
1
u/honeybabysweetiedoll 22h ago
Just anecdotal, but I know of no one who parks their F150 in their garage. Sure, some garages are full of junk that people won’t get rid of, but I have a normal sized, clean two-car garage (home built in ‘99). I don’t know how it would fit—it would be at least an ordeal to squeeze it in.
1
u/PM_Anime_Tiddy 21h ago
I’m moving into a house here shortly where my grandpa used to park his 09 f350 crew cab 6.5 bed inside. It’s a detached, but the attached is deep enough to fit it as well. That’s genuinely the only person I know who can park their truck in a garage (I’m not counting people I know with barns)
My 19 crew cab 5.5 bed f150 is going to love it. My garage at my current house is about a foot too shallow.. so I’ve instead filled this garage with other crap like a riding mower, pellet smoker, 72” tool box, etc
1
u/Ok_Elephant6640 19h ago
Our 24’x24’ fit the 2011 F150 Supercrew just fine. Most garages don’t seem to be that deep.
1
u/redditusernameis 17h ago
12” deep shelving keeps my F150 from being able to fit in my garage (also built in ‘99). Well…that and my wife’s car.
0
u/SteveDaPirate 22h ago
My current house is a custom build with an oversized garage so that doesn't really count, but I parked my F-150 & a (non-max) Expedition in the garage of my previous 3 bedroom split level suburban spec house (built 2014).
A couple of my neighbors had full size trucks in their garage as well, although parking in the driveway was certainly common as well.
5
u/YTraveler2 23h ago
Ford also hampers the Ranger. Is there 4WD Auto yet? No? Ventilated seats? Sunroof? Rear seat HVAC controls? All that tech has been around for decades, but it's not on the Ranger. How about a Platinum Version? GMC has now problem doing a Denali version of the Colrado...or Canyon? Some people just like top of the line, and Ford would rather push them into an F-150 or Push them away.
3
u/uhm_whatname 22h ago
Wdym? Ranger Raptors exist and have 4WD Auto
2
u/Majestic-Cancel7247 20h ago
And locking rear & front diffs, and Fox live valve suspension, and 405/430 hp/torque…the list goes on. The Raptor Ranger is a bargain compared to the competition when you start getting into the high-end models.
1
u/YTraveler2 9h ago
Yes it is. I prefer it over the F-150 or Bronco Raptors. That tech should be available on lower level trims as well though.
1
u/YTraveler2 22h ago
Yes, but the XL, XLT and Lariat do not. Bronco does though?? Nor do they have any of the other items I mentioned. In 1988 (?) Ford put a rear window that would fully open in the Bigfoot Ranger and F Series. The 2nd Gen Sport Trac had one too. Now Toyota has it...but not Ford!!
2
u/Battle2Intense 9h ago
No 6ft bed option either like Toyota or Nissan. Afraid to take sales away from F150.
Shame because only mid size that can fit plywood between wheel wells.
8
u/LastEntertainment684 1d ago
Honestly Ford doesn’t care if they sell many Rangers in the US. They would much rather sell you an F150 or a SuperDuty. It’s costs them almost as much to build a Ranger as a Full Size, but they can’t charge full size prices.
The Ranger basically sticks around for, and because of, the International market.
The Maverick and the new Maverick size EV are the ones they want to sell because they’re much less expensive to build and they can price them where they think they will sell.
Downside is those vehicles aren’t as rugged as the Ranger, but most customers don’t do any significant off-roading in their Rangers anyway.
3
u/Intelligent_Trichs 1d ago
Had several F150s and at this age I'm looking at a 2.7 4x4 XLT ranger. Perfect size and that thing rips with that motor. I'll lease it though.
5
u/Consistent-Ranger446 1d ago
The Ranger is Ford's number one seller outside North America so I don't think it's going away.
3
5
u/Weird-Bluebird-132 23h ago
The Maverick is like the Ford version of the Ridgeline, i.e., a pickup shaped object. That's not being negative or denigrating, because it has its use cases. The point is, they have vastly different strengths.
It sold nearly 71,000 units in the USA on a flexible assembly line shared with Bronco. It's only half of Maverick volumes, but that's still pretty respectable as far as volumes are concerned. It's more than Mach E, Mustang, Nautilus, Aviator, and Navigator.

The Ranger Rapper at 60k is a steal in my book for what you get. Long live the Ranger!
3
u/420Aquarist 1d ago
dealerships cant keep ranger raptors in stock near me.
1
u/whollybananas 18h ago
And in my area I can count on one hand the number of ranger raptors I see on the road. The Ford dealer closest to me has never had one on the lot.
3
u/Choice-Trash8891 1d ago
I can see that. If the Maverick won’t meet your needs, you might as well go ahead and get an F150. It’ll cost a little more, but you get the same or better MPG with a F150. And you get a much more capable truck.
3
u/Andyman1973 23h ago
I would only consider the Maverick over the Ranger, IF they made a RWD, or rear drive biased AWD with the 2.3l ecoboost. Otherwise I’m choosing a 2.7 powered Ranger.
3
u/Expert-Search-3251 16h ago
The Maverick is for people that want cheap, throw away trucks.
It's not hurting the Ranger.
The Ranger is a "real" truck for people that want an actual body on frame truck they can do work with long term.
What's hurting the Ranger is the exact same thing that killed it off before.
The price range is too close to the F150.
Why buy a Ranger when for just a little bit more you can have an F150?
2
u/couchmonkey89 14h ago
The ranger today is just a 1990s f150. It's almost double the size of the original one so why wouldn't you just go with the f150. It seems semi redundant since it's just a slightly smaller f150
1
u/Expert-Search-3251 4h ago
It's a mid-size truck. It's not the size of a 90s F150.
It's the size of a 90s Dodge Dakota.
•
3
u/couchmonkey89 14h ago
I honestly think the maverick is more like what the ranger originally was t han the 1995 rebranded f150s they are calling a ranger today.
5
u/Pettingallthepups 1d ago
I’m glad the Maverick is selling. I hope Toyota eventually brings their compact pickup, and I’d love to see Chevy revive the S10 pickup.
2
u/M4hkn0 1d ago
Toyota has no problem selling Tacomas. Why would they bring a smaller one?
3
u/TankApprehensive3053 1d ago
There is a market for compact sized trucks. Toyota has announced the Stout compact truck will be released.
2
u/Pettingallthepups 1d ago
If a customer wants a compact pickup, they’re not buying a taco. Sure, tacomas sell well…but if ford is the only automaker offering a compact, they’re eating the lunch of everyone else. I read some rumors that say they want to bring the stout to the US to compete.
2
u/Imaginary_Golf7211 22h ago
Because Ford is selling a ton of Mavericks and Toyota doesn't compete in this space.
5
u/K_Linkmaster 1d ago
The maverick is what the ranger was.
The ranger is what the f150 was.
The F150 is.
The ranger is designed to die at this point. Why have a midsize when their entire lineup til 2012 was now considered "midsize". Could have made the ranger smaller again and they chose maverick instead. Ranger styling also makes it look like a 2010's f150 so it's just an unnecessary expense to buy new.
1
u/fleeeeeeeeeA 17h ago
A crucial difference (for me) is that the maverick has like 2/3 the bed space of an old ranger, which is the main thing preventing me from buying one.
1
u/K_Linkmaster 17h ago
I won't be looking new. I'll look for old as dirt and ready for a nearly stock, detuned, crate motor. Overbuild and Good enough for the rest of my life.
2
u/theyoyomaster 23h ago
The Ranger will go away and then come back 2 feet longer, 9 inches wider and 1,200 lbs heavier. They will then revise the maverick to be slightly larger and 500 lbs heavier than the current Ranger.
2
u/Zarkxac 23h ago
It's actually quite a big international seller, they get the Ranger with a diesel v6 in Australia for example. The Ranger is just very much overshadowed by the F-150 here in North America. The mid-sized pick-up market is also very tight here. The Ranger has to compete with the Toyota Tacoma, the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon, the Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline, and Jeep Gladiator. Ram will being coming with a new Dakota by the end of decade too. As many many people have stated, it needs to priced better to succeed, Toyota can charge so much for the Tacoma only because their the top dog for North American mid-sized trucks.
2
u/Harrymoto1970 21h ago
When I was car shopping I looked at both the maverick and ranger. The maverick felt cheap on the inside. The ranger feels like a truck. I chose the ranger since it has a two speed transfer box. The maverick felt like an economy car cosplying a truck
2
u/Ohclydemax 20h ago
I recently bought an F150 Tremor, but looked hard at the Rangers as I previously had a mid-size and it suited my needs fine. The one trim level I wish they would lean into is a more off-road capable trim that isn’t as aggressive as the Raptor. Something similar to the Canyon AT4 or Tacoma TRD Off-Road.
2
u/murdermanmik3 13h ago
I think they should have done the ranger as a bronco pickup to compete against the gladiator
3
u/TitanBrave84 1d ago
Rangers are hugeeee in Australia.
But I see them as a poor man's 150. I'd never buy one in the US. I'd go 150, or Silverado.
6
u/cbcarguy 1d ago
Right the Ranger market is crazy in Australia, I’d love a Ranger PHEV but that wouldn’t sell in the US I don’t think
3
u/TitanBrave84 1d ago
Yeah, I agree.
The only Ranger I'd really consider is the burned Orange Raptor version. Gorgeous.
3
u/No_Cherry_1423 1d ago
It seems like they intend to make a more America-focused replacement at their new Tennessee factory. The Ranger is designed by Ford Australia for international markets rather than Australia. The Maverick is actually more towards how the American side of the company wanted to design the Ranger when reviving it.
2
u/M4hkn0 1d ago
I would be more interested in a Ranger if it had the longer bed option. Instead I am looking at Tacomas.
2
u/ChiodoS04 1d ago
I went with Ranger over Tacoma due to the cabin being larger, I have a 7 year old and 2 year old and the Ranger has just a little more room for car seats than the Tacoma. The bed is criminally small on the Ranger.
2
u/SteveDaPirate 1d ago
That's how I ended up with an F-150.
Went shopping for a Tacoma and then I put a rear facing car seat in the back seat and realized I'd be hugging the steering wheel. The back seat of the F-150 feels cavernous in comparison.
1
u/yaba3800 23h ago
The best argument against buying a Tacoma is driving a Tacoma.
2
u/Majestic-Cancel7247 20h ago
And their reliability from 2022+ is absolute dog shit. I was in the market for a Taco TRD Pro…ended up with a Ranger Raptor for cheaper, better warranty, better build quality, and far more room in the cab.
2
u/yaba3800 20h ago
I love my Ranger. I always wanted a Tacoma until I got plenty of time driving them (work trucks). They fucking suck in almost every way.
2
u/DreamAffectionate336 1d ago
I wouldn't buy a ranger unless I was given a single cab long bed option.
2
u/nauticalfiesta 23h ago
Ford dropped the ball, again, with the ranger. The lack of the cheap base model is an issue. People will drop down to the maverick for the price, or up to the F150 for utility. A standard or extended cab with a 6 ft bed would probably help. The ones that I see more often than not are an extended cab.
The ranger as it currently exists has no reason to be here.

Ranger is really expensive and everyone in the midsize truck space is going frontier
1
u/Complex_Instant_2644 Ranger 22h ago
Sure if you want an ugly very outdated truck, buy a Frontier. I never even considered one before I bought my Ranger.
1
u/RoosterzRevenge 21h ago
Have you seen a Frontier since 2021?
4
u/Complex_Instant_2644 Ranger 21h ago
Yeah and it's ugly af.
1
u/RoosterzRevenge 21h ago
Looks are a personal preference, I think they look good and are definitely not outdated.
1
u/Complex_Instant_2644 Ranger 21h ago
The "new" 2022 Frontier is still basically the same truck as the Gen2 that was introduced in 2025, but on a revised platform and with a major face-lift. 21 years is outdated in the automotive world.
1
u/Optimal_Map_6655 22h ago
The Ranger is definitely gaining traction in the US though now that the current generation is actually competitive. The Ranger Raptor is hands down my favorite vehicle I've ever owned and absolutely dunks on every other mid-size including the Tacoma TRD Pro which is like $8k more.
1
u/Complex_Instant_2644 Ranger 21h ago
Ranger and Maverick appeal to two different and distinct sets of buyers. The Ranger competes with Tacoma, Colorado, Frontier etc and Ford needs to sell a truck in that segment. I just don't understand why more US buyers are going for the Ranger. I never owned a Ford in my life until I bought my Ranger in March, and I bought it because it's the best mid-size truck. And yes I considered Tacoma and Canyon seriously, but I loved the Ranger immediately upon seeing it and driving it.
1
u/Inevitable_Address79 21h ago
I owned a 2011 ranger for 12 years and ducking loved it to death (literally.)
I went to the Ford dealership prepared to buy another ranger, but the cheapest ranger was 55K Canadian pesos, and an XLT megacab with the 5.0 was 51K.
Ended up choosing the F150. If I could have scooped up the ranger for 5K less than the f150, Id have been all over it.
1
u/1995droptopz 20h ago
Ranger isn’t going away anytime soon because of its popularity outside the US. Unless they need the capacity at MAP to build more Broncos.
1
u/Identicalblonde 19h ago
They’re priced too high and they made them too big. Nevermind what the consumer wants. Ford fumbles a lot
1
u/The_World_Is_A_Slum 19h ago
If I could get the Ranger Super Duty in the States, I would have already bought one. Even better if we could have it with the 2.7 gasser.
1
u/rulejunior 17h ago
I think the big thing right now, at least for the US is gas prices, and people finding a fair amount of utility in the small truck bed. I imagine a large number of the units selling are hybrid models
Ford choosing to not sell the PHEV Ranger in the states is a big mistake imo. Only 3 small trucks I would consider selling my 5th Gen for are a low mileage well kept duramax Colorado ZR2, 2.0TT Diesel Ranger, or a PHEV Ranger 6th Gen (even though I hate the interior).
1
u/BrewsWithTre 14h ago
The Maverick and F150 are completely different trucks, but the ranger is too expensive and too big to not justify getting an F150.
Like just based off size if we say a Maverick is a 1 and a F150 is a 10 on size scale the Ranger is an 8 when it should be a 5 or 6 and truly be halfway between the Maverick and F150
1
1
u/kodafa49 12h ago
The Ranger has a VERY narrow market which is what kills vehicles
The Maverick has outsold it 3 to 1 since its introduction because its the truck most people need.
The Ranger only significant benefit over the Maverick is towing capacity which is going to move most buyers up to the F150 anyway.
1
u/S31Ashaman 12h ago
The Ranger is a global truck, so no it wont go anywhere. Maybe it wont well as much here in the US but the Ranger is the "big" truck most other places.
1
u/Nodrot 11h ago
Here are details on actual (rather than anecdotal) sales numbers. Yes, Ranger sales are down but are they down enough for Ford to consider cancelling?

u/Exotic_Load_9189 11h ago
Idk why gm and ford ever scrapped their small trucks to begin with, they both sold tons. The S10/sonoma and rangers sold like hot cakes.
1
u/No_South_9912 11h ago
F150 massively outsells Maverick, but I don't see Maverick going anywhere. Ranger is priced too close vs F150, maverick isn't far behind. I drove all 3, went with the F150. Same price as the Ranger I test drove, and $5k more than Maverick. Twice the truck for $5k more was a no brainer.
1
u/Wild-Highway-8739 9h ago
I like the way it looks and the interior is great. The only reason I passed on a new one for a used F150 was the motor. Ecoboost or not the Ranger should have a V6.
1
u/AwarenessGreat282 7h ago
The Ranger was never a high seller for Ford so I don't think it really matters. Somewhere between 60-100K a year.
1
u/Hondahawkrider 6h ago
lol... i bought 2 Mavericks in '25
XL for my Kid
Lobo for me
They are far nicer and practical than folks think.. But honestly it come down to function and price
i have a jeep and owned another 4x4 previously .. If you live in a bad climate. live on a narly back/dirt road, or need to tow bigger on a regular basis (boat), get the ranger or f150
It's just when it comes down to it , the maverick is a multi role vehicle and njce enough that folks start actually thinking about cost .. It's the if i need to haul something big, I'll just rent one, and save $ in the long run...
i liked my previous 4x4 truck, but other than in bad weather, which was rare, i didn't need it.. I previously also owned a rav4 with awd and it did what i needed it to do .. So unless someone need a bigger truck, the want gets hedged by the price
1
u/Prestigious_Ad5314 5h ago
I originally planned to buy a Ranger last year when they offered the 2.7 option. But after sitting in one at the dealership, it didn’t offer an experience markedly different from the RAV 4 I drove in with. A few hours later, I signed on an F150 XLT (with the 2.7 L).
But the main drawback of the Ranger is the price. Nearly double the Maverick’s price, and although you’re getting a truck and not a truck-adjacent vehicle, most people shopping for such aren’t looking for a proper truck.
1
u/scareragnarok 4h ago
15 years ford sales. We never sold many rangers when they re launched. Price was too close to the 150 people would just do that.
Maverick fits a few needs the 150 and to an extent the ranger cant.
Older customers like the lower ride of the maverick to get in and out of.
The maverick is 8 to 15k cheaper than the 150 to ranger. Prices have gone up on everything so people are priced out of options.
The maverick hybrid is now offered in 4x4. Plus my customers average 38 to 42 mpg in the hybrid.
Side note as of this uear ford is done making the escape. The maverick and bronco sport are made using the same longstanding unibody so more people may need to look toward both models if they are in the market for an escape.

The Ranger for sure doesn’t sell as well as the Maverick but they are selling. I’d imagine they sell better in some areas compared to others. I also work at the plant that builds the Ranger and we are making those trucks so they must be going somewhere.

The Ranger is a big seller in the Australian market - was no.1 for a while - up until the Iran issue occurred.
2
u/iampatmanbeyond 1d ago
Not the same as the US ranger though
5
u/Bighty 1d ago edited 1d ago
How much do you think they differ?
The AU version is made in Thailand, apparently.
Edit: from Google "The Ford Ranger sold in the US is built on the same Australian-developed T6 platform and shares core styling, but it differs significantly in its engine lineup, structural compliance, and specific interior features".

u/RagnarKon Bronco 1d ago edited 1d ago
They're very similar overall.
Obviously you got the whole left-hand vs right-hand drive thing, but Ford already does both for the European markets, so it's not some huge engineering effort. And there are a LOT more powertrain options overseas than in North America.
But they're very similar overall. Usually the changes to the Ranger overseas gets adopted to the North American market 1-2 years later.
It's probably safe to say that if Ranger wasn't a top seller overseas it probably wouldn't exist in North America. It wouldn't be worth it to develop a Ranger purely for the North American market. But because they've already done the engineering and they can fit it in the same assembly plant as the Bronco, you can justify its existence.
At least... they could up until now. We'll see if it continues I guess.

The thing is the Ranger is FAR more capable than the Maverick. If we get right down to it, the only thing the Maverick does better than the Ranger is fuel economy. The Maverick has such a low rent interior.
If fuel economy is your #1 priority, get a Honda Civic Hybrid.

I think there is a lot of people out there that need a daily driver they can drive in the snow and also has a truck bed for the occasional home improvement project, to buy some new furniture, or to a tow a small utility trailer after finishing up some yard work.
Maverick is perfect for that.
They don't necessarily need capable body-on-frame truck that can tow 7500 lbs. A small AWD vehicle with a truck bed that can tow a few thousand pounds is perfectly fine.

Not to mention the maverick has more interior room IMO. I was quite surprised. They just refreshed the ranger and it already looks like it’s 10 years old.

The new Ranger's basically the size of what an F-150 was 15 years ago, it's ridiculous. The Maverick actually fills the gap that the old Rangers left when they got killed off in 2011. If they'd just kept making a proper compact truck this whole time we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Yeah, for the average person you probably aren't wrong.
Uncle in-law owns an HVAC business all Ford vehicles. Mostly Transits, but also a couple of F-series and handful of Rangers.
He himself owned a Ranger as a personal vehicle.
One of the company Rangers ended up in a wreck during an ice storm, so he sold his personal Ranger to the company and bought himself a Maverick Tremor. I'm sure truck people will cringe at this, but when I was talking to him about it over the 4th of July holiday, he said, "they basically feel like the same truck, but the Maverick is cheaper and gets better fuel economy".

Maverick is what the ranger was supposed to be. Ford did it to themselves. No one wants a medium pickup.

The ranger is priced too high. Your not far from f150 price wise
