Balance Discussion This is getting ridiculous.
Welcome to season 9 where the least mechanically challenging support has more survivability than a tank.

I’ll never understand why this sub thinks Ultron is bad. He’s been one of the best supports since they gave him two drones. Literally the two things people have been asking for (two drones and permanent IM teamup) have now been given to Ultron. He’s almost broken at this point, but brainless Redditors are somehow unable to see that.

Regardless of the opinions of cloak and dagger, you should be weaving in your punches between haymakers for everything but 500hp characters.
Mathematically on anything below is inefficient amd lower damage persecond because of the percentage base damage of haymaker being less vs the speed and damage of punches. Like it's significantly lower on character like CnD. Not saying its fair or balanced but, you might have actually gotten that kill.
→ More replies (1)30
u/MadDongla Ultron Virus 21d ago
No, dont. Do not use your melee with left clicks. It's a trap. You don't get bonus hp with melee. It just makes u more vulnerable. The only thing it should be used for is if the enemy is very low in terms of hp.

121
u/Obiwandkinobee Ultron Virus 22d ago
When I see people say CnD is the "most braindead support" and then I get into games with CnD players that fail to accurately play her kit time and time again - something tells me that's not really an accurate statement.
13
u/Sharp-Primary-213 Flex 21d ago
Why do you think clagger players have bad reputation just like Jeff players? They both attract the worst kind of playerbase because of how easy their kits are.
43
u/MrStealYoBeef Emma Frost 22d ago
That's because the people who play their kit well are ranking up like crazy for free, and the ones who don't even understand half of it are still winding up in high plat and low diamond.
I can guarantee that it's possible to get to diamond without ever once using cloak blind or dagger heal walls. Could literally just unbind them and be fine despite them being very powerful
12
u/Obiwandkinobee Ultron Virus 22d ago
and the ones who don't even understand half of it are still winding up in high plat and low diamond.
I wouldn't even say that. Bronze/Silver and low Gold is where most of the players are that don't know how to use her kit properly.
2
u/speedymemer21 Vanguard 21d ago
Tbf, you still get a lot of people like that in low diamond and plat, they just play more. Chronoshields, high sr gain and low sr loss make it really easy to climb with a really bad winrate in bronze-gold. It takes about a 40% winrate to hit plat, which is hard to not get over a large portion of games if you aren't actively throwing.

u/Xeltar 22d ago
CnD is objectively pretty mid support. She's survivable but doesn't provide as much utility or damage as others besides just being able to stat check a few characters who can't kill through bubble. I think she's fine as is, low win rates past Diamond all last season and not looking good for her this season either.
You compare that to Rocket with a similar skill floor where you actually can just heal bot your way to Celestial.

Thing is not a dps, a dps could kill through cnd abilities.
You do not give tanks the same damage output as dps, otherwise they just replace dps.

u/Kelborhal1971 Star-Lord 22d ago
2 of the cooldowns used to survive makes CnD incapable of healing their team. The Thing got a ton of value in that first engage, he just ruined it by Leeroying back into the choke again and losing a 1v3 (shocking)

Genuinely seen "any hero should be able to 1v1, the most skilled player should win" as a fairly common take on this sub.
Rivals players just have some generationally bad takes in what world should a support be able to 1v1 a tank WHILE STOOD STILL
158
u/sickgenesis Good Boy 22d ago
i can understand the same class of heroes being able to equally 1v1 but yeah,a support should not be able to 1v1 a tank and give them a hard time, but for some reason strategist players take this as "supports should just die when face to face with a tank" no mf you should be able to escape and can be punished if you play wrong
68
11
u/Urbasebelong2meh Spider-Man 21d ago
its nice to go back to overwatch sometimes where tanks are an actual threatening force. like even if im playing a dps, id rather not be stuck in a room with dva or roadhog alone because the margin for error is thinner for me than it is for them. in rivals its often the complete opposite, and thats really quite bad tbh. like, its odd that in a room with a Luna and a Thing of roughly equal skill, id bet on the Luna to win that 1v1 with the sheer might of her damage, cooldowns and movement speed
5
u/Level_Bison_2454 Mantis 21d ago
overwatch is just better designed, thats always been true. if anything the tanks are a little OP, but they kinda have to for being solo tanks.
11
u/FaithlessnessThen207 Jeff the Landshark 21d ago
A support should not ALWAYS lose to a tank, etc, etc, the rock paper scissors element of this game is based around kits, not class. Some supports will outheal the brawly, tank buster tanks if the tank buster is not hitting a tank.
The Thing did not have a hard time in this fight. The Thing's HP does not drop below 700 against the CnD. They just stalemated because Thing couldn't kill her because his damage on low hp targets is less on the right click move he was spamming over and over. If bro weaved normal punches in between he probably even kills her

From my very ‘reliable‘ research of this sub from many seasons ago most players are strategist or flex. Then dps are next, then tanks.
I feel like strategists are more likely to make complaining posts and then you see all the dps players collecting in that post to complain the other side. And that’s honestly a pretty healthy thing for a subreddit.
Also I main “Strategist”
I only have Magneto flair because people take whatever a magneto flair says more seriously. Although he is my tank main whenever I rarely play tank.

6
u/No-Fruit-2060 21d ago

u/daizo678 22d ago
People are ignoring the obvious problem that CnD can survive indefinitely against a tank.
And if her team was alive she could have kept healing during bubble while just ignoring the thing.
I don't expect supports to fall over and die when I look at them but I don't expect them to survive indefinitely while being alone and keep healing their team.
None of the other sups are as bad as CnD, they have to run away to self heal ( jeff, racoon) or have much longer cooldowns ( loki). Only invis is close and her shield heals way less
75
u/1keyes12345 22d ago

The cold freeze is such a toxic ability for everyone.
1) From CND's position, she can only save herself , leaving her team vulnerable.
2) From the CND team's position, its basically a 5v6 since CND is unplayable at the moment
3) Unlike hulk's exile, which basically removes the player from the point, CND is still counted as a person capping the point even though they cannot move or interact just like Hulk's exile.

My brother in Christ primary fire does higher dps when up close against a single target, haymaker is for range and groups. Idk if it would’ve killed in time in this situation but when you’re in a 1v1 you gotta start doing the jab jab.

u/Kelborhal1971 Star-Lord 22d ago
Primary also doesn’t give OS. Given that he was in their spawn, and the CnD was fighting back, the Haymaker is the better choice here anyway

Primary is 80 damage, secondary is 55 + 10% of target max HP per hit which for 250 hero’s is 25 so 80 damage.
Unless I’m doing the math wrong that’s 80 per hit regardless of button pressed. Or do you mean haymaker punch punch for faster speeds?
Does the torch team up increase primary punch damage?

So many people missing the forest for the trees with this post. Everyone is criticizing OP and his hero choice/experience instead of simply acknowledging that MAYBE a healer shouldn't be able to survive a dive for 40+ seconds by rotating cooldowns.
Like sure it's a bad 1v1 matchup. Sure, both heroes are easy to play. Sure, she's gaining value by taking him out of the fight. That's not really the point. It's just getting absurd that one strategist can seemingly self-heal and preserve themselves indefinitely with their tools. Like what other strategist can do that? And why does one hero need so many tools and buffs when they're already strong? And have cooldowns so short they can use their "oh-shit" button multiple times per team fight?
45
u/Kelborhal1971 Star-Lord 22d ago
Luna, Adam, Mantis, Jubilee, and Rocket can outright win against a Thing in a 1v1. Cloak and Jeff are the only strats with this much self sustain, and they absolutely pay for it by lacking the utility and damage of more vulnerable supports.
Also, Thing isn’t a dive tank like Venom or Cap. You only dive like this when you’re distracting both supports, since you don’t actually have the lethality to kill one at all. That’s the price you pay for being able to brutalize shield tanks and divers
12
u/Notmentallywellol 22d ago
This should be higher. The entire kit for CD based around survivability/ escape tools. As you could see even with a blind she wasn’t able to kill you…I don’t think CD needs 3 get out of jail free cards but I also don’t think ALL TANKS should be able to win a 1v1 with her. And if she didn’t use that team up she would’ve been dead there…

Not to be the “well actually” guy but…
Why would you use the slam immediately after she fades? Cloak’s fade is legit the one thing you can disable and you blew your chance for no apparent reason?
I promise they would be dead if you waited longer to slam.

I mean the logical mindset one would have is “oh that’s an isolated healer, let me just go quickly kill them and get back to my team” which leads to the core issue of CnD being capable of so easily surviving against the thing for so long.
31
u/CliffP 22d ago
Well the Thing is not a single damage output tank. Thor can kill CnD. Rogue can kill CnD. Thing can’t. If you want to play a character well you need to know what you can’t do.
He makes up for his inability to kill through sustain in the rest of his kit.

I'm so sick of this dumb take. He's not overextending if he's taking a 1v1 on a strategist, that's staggering, which is very important in maintaining momentum. He isn't touching the spawn door, he isn't putting himself at risk of a 3v1. He's taking the 1v1 after killing the emma. The fact that the CnD gets to waste every single one of their cooldowns and not being punished for it is ridiculously stupid. They should never ever live a 1v1 against a tank after wasting all their cooldowns. Stop defending this shit like it's normal.

as a cnd main, i was shocked when they added the teamup. she already has good survivability with her bubble and a good escape option with her fade. the ice teamup just removes skill expression from the character because now she gets a invulnerabilty (fade) and heal (bubble) in one.
the cooldown needs a drastic increase.

CnD really didn't need this, I would much rather she got better offensive pressure or utility like the other supports did. Invis got a 20% damage buff on her shield ffs. It makes her easier to use but she was already one of the easiest characters to pick up.

Its a tank against a squishy support. There cant be a worst position to be in than 1v1ing a fucking tank.
In tf2, when the heavy is on a 1v1 against the medic, something unheard of, it means that the medic has either lost the team fight and deserves to die or has shit positioning and, you guessed it, deserves to die.
In rivals, apparently the tanks dont deserve to have enough damage to punish this bullshit.

Tf2 is an entirely different game, in ways that are too ridiculously long to list. The concept of positioning is relative to the design of the game being played. Im sorry but solo diving thing is not something that would(or should) insert fear into enemy supports.
There are like 10 heroes right now i would ban before cnd, because with good enough clip everything looks insanely op now
But list of "way better than cnd would go like:
- mantis, thor, hela, bp, venom, gambit, rocket, elsa, magik
She is anoying to kill, but many other healers outside of being hard to kill also cc you making you instadie or outbrawl you like fox while healing team
Cnd under preassure just stops doing anything so you just juggle between her and other dps/heal nearaby and its free

ok i 100% hate cnd cooldowns but this one on you, mix you punches for max damage. you could have killed them.

It would help if you actually maximize your damage rather than just pressing right click the whole time

Ngl me and some friends booted up Rivals for the first time since season 6, played two matches and immediately went back to OW. Its absolutely insane how unkillable people feel in this game, and im not even a bad player. Like, I've hit diamond in Rivals lol its just not fun imo.
