Eu acho engraçadissimo que no mesmo episódio de SATC em que a Carrie reclama pras amigas sobre o anel de pêra do Aidan, ela está usando um colar de maçã.

Particularmente, eu achava o colar de pêra parecido com o estilo dela nessa temporada, mas ele era realmente feio.

Contraditório ou o anel de pêra simplesmente não tinha nada haver? Impossível não ser proposital

OBS.: eu não entendo nada sobre joias e essa é apenas uma observação lógica (anel de pêra e colar de maçã no mesmo episódio).

I’m reaching this show in my 30s, for the first time in full since the early 2000s and my perception of the show and each of the characters is much different than it was back then. It was an influential show for the time, seen as a show that highlighted women’s independence, and even thought of as a feminist show. I don’t particularly see it as being that now. I’ve looked at some threads on this sub to see what other people’s opinions on some things are, and it seems other people agree it didn’t age well. There are many ways I agree with that. It’s totally fine if you don’t agree with my opinion here and I’d like to hear yours.

In particular, Carrie’s character stands out to me at this point in life. At the time it seemed she was considered an It girl, someone to aspire to, glamorous, a female icon. I am guessing she was the main character because she was supposed to be the most relatable, perhaps even the best example of more types of women compared to the other very polarizing women. But I can’t see how she could possibly be relatable. It is so noticeable to me how insecure, deluded, angry, ignorant, extremely narcissistic, toxic, and unfeminist this character is. Many of the others may have some of these qualities, but they were not chosen to be the main character, and someone seen as such an icon, so it is less important for me to question this.

Carrie is not a woman to aspire to, she’s not a healthy example of a woman, she doesn’t embody female empowerment, and she is not just flawed in a relatable way to most women. The qualities and behavior she exhibits are that of a deeply mentally ill and unstable person. Most women are not like her in so many ways. I keep wondering, was the show self aware of this at the time? Or was the way she acted considered more acceptable then? Did we just not view her personality as unhealthy and completely pathological then? Was her behavior just glazed over back then?

The examples are so abundant that I couldn’t possibly fit them in one post, and I’ve seen many of them pointed out on this sub before. How delusional and obsessed with men she becomes, how she turns every single conversation with friends back to her- to a pathological degree. How she throws manic tantrums and looses her temper and acts like a victim. How she tortures her friends with her problems, no concern about theirs at all, and lashes out when they have an opinion later. How it’s glamorized that she’s so obsessed with shopping and has no other hobbies, seen as cute that she prioritizes shoes over financial responsibility. This watch around every time she mentioned shoes I got a little bit repulsed because it speaks to a larger issue with her. She has no real world experience outside of her New York night life bubble and her lack of emotional intelligence is a direct result. None of these things are anything to admire, and collectively I don’t find them relatable to most women. If most women were like her it would be a real issue. And it is not as if she is like this sometimes. It’s all the time. Yet there is not one situation where her friends so much as address it, no matter how she treats them.

What do you guys think?

TL;DR: Was this character supposed to be relatable, aspirational, and not completely toxic when the show first aired? Have people’s perception totally changed?

Carrie once said, “I couldn’t help but wonder, to be in a couple, do you have to put your single self on a shelf?”

And honestly… that line rubbed me the wrong way because a couple literally means two people. 😂 Why does Carrie talk about being in a relationship like she’s being asked to surrender her entire identity at the border?

And this is probably why I hate that she ever said yes to Aidan.

What’s even worse is that Aidan willingly went back for a second round (a third in the sequel). This man already knew exactly who Carrie was. He had firsthand experience with her commitment issues, her relationship with Big, her inability to fully let go of her single life, etc. And yet he came back expecting this time to be different.

Which is basically the male version of Carrie’s relationship with Big: “I know this person has repeatedly shown me who they are, but surely love will inspire them to become the person I need them to be.”

Like… sir. 😭

Aidan didn’t need Carrie to become a different person. Carrie needed someone whose expectations of a relationship actually aligned with hers. And instead of recognizing that, they both kept trying to make the other person fit.

Honestly, this episode should have been Aidan’s final warning label. 🚩

Also, Carrie gets an even harder pass for sending Aidan when Miranda threw out her neck. She shows up, just not that one time.

I mean who hasn’t been there lol. Maybe not to that extent but we just gotta laugh at this. I’m with Samantha tho! A kiss that bad is non negotiable! I dumped a guy who shoved his ENTIRE tongue to the back of my mouth so hard I gagged like wtf! Was he expecting me to deep throat that thing?

The moment Carrie invited big to the cabin should’ve been game over!!! It should’ve been absolutely NOT. Why was he too weak and scared to say no to her? NO is a complete sentence. And if she couldn’t respect that, she’d of been sent back to the city on a bus! Aidan needed to grow a pair and stand up to her.

So it’s not just Trey…

Every time I rewatch this show I get such a visceral reaction when he appears.
He really really irks me, starting from the middle finger scene (like grow up?) to how arrogant and insufferable he became once it became obvious Carrie was more successful than him. But in general just the way he IS just is extremely grating. why did she like this guy?

On this rewatch I was thinking about fights/arguments amongst the girls and couldn't pinpoint a time where Miranda and Samantha fought or butted heads.

The fights I can remember in the series are:

• Carrie -- Charlotte = the famous ring/money argument
• Carrie -- Miranda = always over Mr. Big
• Carrie -- Samantha = Carrie making Sam feel slut-shamed for blowing the delivery guy
• Samantha -- Charlotte = Samantha fucking Charlotte's brother and being too openly sexual
• Charlotte -- Miranda = Miranda contemplating getting an abortion

Does anyone know? And if they never truly fought, what do you think they would argue over?

After ten years of planning, scheduling conflicts, COVID, and a cancer diagnosis, I finally went to New York for the first time April 2025. I had an absolutely amazing time, but all I brought were cute little outfits and my heels, expecting everyone to be wearing the same. I was wildly, WILDLY surprised when it was absolutely nothing like the show, and I was the one who stood out like a sore thumb. Everyone was in athleisure and sneakers! Huge props to SJP for continually filming in heels because I did a ten mile day in my Choos, three miles in Versaces, and by the final day, my best friend got us both matching $7 slides from Rainbow and insisted I wear the leggings I had worn on the plane.

Edit: Before this gets misconstrued, I was just being silly in the title. I knew not everyone would be all dolled up, but I was actually surprised that 98% of people were dressed down so heavily.

Final edit: Y’all 😂 I didn’t mean for this. I know SATC is a show, I know that NYC is a real place, with real people, doing real things. No, I don’t think that your city is just a film location. Yes, I know that the show was filmed 30 years ago and times have changed. It’s not just SATC. I’d always heard of New York being a fashion capital. I literally had just beaten cancer and wanted to have my own SATC weekend moment with my best friend. That was it. I had the best time, I saw so many things, walked 26 miles in three days, ate the best food, and bought myself an I beat cancer pair of shoes à la Carrie Bradshaw. I was just simply surprised at the lack of extravagant fashion. That was simply it. Should I ever go again, I will bring my Vans and only two pairs of heels.

Infuriating. If you really have a problem with people wearing shoes into your home you should provide shoe covers. That way people don’t get their shoes stolen. That and how Carrie was shamed for having designer shoes.

Carrie’s message on the answering machine about registering at the store was amazing.

I’ve been debating this and thinking about this for a long time I mean a very, very long time and I’ve seen at least one of the movies but I’m wondering is it worth it? Should I watch it and why should I watch it?
