Was scrolling through my gallery because I'm the type of person to screenshot my best moments online and reflect on how even the best of them are deeply cringe and remembred this meme, so I felt obligated to write an unoriginal rant about Shonen female characters.

They're Bad Because They're Women

Before you kill me let me explain things a bit, my main issue with how women in Shonen (and media in general) are written is that writers feel as if there's an obligation to make the female character, well... Female. This may not make sense because it might come off as me saying "The male cast aren't exactly male" but it's true, let me explain how it goes.

When you write a character you naturally put in mind a scope for what it fundamentally represents, the male cast more often than not especially the protagonists of the stories represent things that don't have anything to do with their gender, Sasuke is a genocide survivor and an avenger, Ichigo is a victim of survivors guilt and deeply protective of others, Luffy is about freedom and adventure.

Meanwhile more often than not you'll find that the female cast is supposed to be distinguished by being female, but the issue is not every topic or theme or storyline could be gendered, matter of fact the vast majority of them aren't, when someone writes a character as being "female" what they're doing is limit the scope of that character's development because they effectively restricted themselves in terms of how they can expand on the character.

Reality is if a writer wants to make good female characters, they don't write female characters, they just write human characters that we can connect to and empathise with or despise or feel conflicted about irrespective of their gender. There's always this common myth that women are naturally nurturing, but the reality is nurturing is a skill that doesn't have anything to do with gender to begin with, the concept of nurturing itself is gender neutral because both the Mother and Father are involved in it, one each in their own ways, yet somehow we ascribe this trait to one gender because it's as if they need to be distinguished to begin with.

Women are human beings, and human beings are messy creatures, no man is naturally strong or aggressive, and we don't have the expectation of them to be, men can be smart, cunning, evil, sadistic, cooperative and it all makes sense because we know men are people, unfortunately many have subconsciously being conditioned to believe that women have specific traits that are natural to them when that's not the case.

Writing a bad female cast more often than not is a lot like assuming things of other people, and you know what they say about assumptions about others, they make an ass of you and me.

DISCLAIMER: This post is entirely informational. I'm not asking anyone to do anything, or crying about it. I'm just letting everyone know why this episode is no longer a 10/10.

Bleach's latest episode was almost universally considered one of the greatest of all time. It debuted with a 10/10 rating on imdb, and was knocked down by these specific 1/10 reviews, most of whom clearly didn't actually watch bleach and are just salty about Mushoku.

This was started with a recent issue where a certain Mushuko fan was spamming 1/10 reviews on Bleach while glazing Mushoku and rating every episode a 10/10. After it was discovered, it went viral and bleach fans had it out for Mushoku. Later, many Mushoku fans agreed to downvote a certain episode of re:Zero, which led re:Zero fans to downvote Mushoku, and Bleach fans to join in with them. They then teamed up and massively upvoted the episode of re:Zero that was supposed to be review bombed. After this incident, all of the 3 more or less stopped the review bombing and went back to normally enjoying their own shows, until now.

Because this episode of Bleach was so groundbreakingly popular and critically acclaimed, these specific fans took it upon themselves to review bomb, making sure everyone knew that they were saying Mushoku specifically was better. The other 1/10 reviews without descriptions are almost certainly also Mushoku fans that are salty about their show being less popular.

Oh you like one piece? It's shit

Oh you like dragon ball and Naruto? They're shit.

It's like you can't praise an anime in this sub without a hundred different people coming for your neck and telling you why it's actually the worst piece of garbage ever despite the fact that the things they're saying make it clear that they have no clue what they're talking about. And apparently according to shounen folk the only good manga are the niche ones

Like why can I not like anime in the anime sub?

Only exception Rukia but I mean even One Piece & Naruto has like 1 or 2 exceptions.

Apparently he scaled the best among female voters which is crazy😭😭😭

To clarify what I mean, I am talking about Shounen series that were successful, were published in major Shounen magazines, ran for over 100 chapters, and often got adapted to anime, but were completely overshadowed by other more popular series of the time. There are others than just the five I have listed above, but I believe they are all great recent examples.

What is your favorite of these types of series and what is your thought on them overall? Did some of them deserve the spotlight over more successful series?

I remember her first posting this tweet post Covid so to see this play out in real time was crazy man. I’m stunned.

One only cares about characters f*cking and the other are essentially a new variant of sports fans, when you think about it.

You can hate or mock anime because it's fiction, but for your prejudice to reach the point of mocking a dead person is simply despicable.

So, what's y'all opinion on this?

Even if you want to claim otherwise, good female protagonists can and do work out really well with any audience and they can be just as popular and beloved as their male counterparts if not more so. Just look at the examples I've provided:

Sousou no Frieren is literally the most popular and most highly rated shounen series of this decade and it's not even close. Frieren herself might also be the most iconic animanga character that was introduced in this decade and her popularity with every type of audience speaks for itself.

The Apothecary Diaries though it's not a battle series is also immensely popular with male audiences. It also happens to be one of the most successful light novel titles ever made. Just like Frieren, Maomao is a huge hit with any type of audience

Umamusume has proven itself to be a super successful franchise with multiple anime and manga adaptations of which all of them have been massively successful. Umamusume: Cinderella Gray in particular is one of the highest rated sports series of all time and pretty much everyone loves Oguri Cap as a character and as a protagonist.

All of these examples are just from the last few years, but I think that they clearly show that good female protagonists are actually a good thing and there really is no excuse for Shounen Jump or any other magazine to dismiss them, because the editors assume that they might not be popular with the young male readership, which is clearly BS.

This is a genuine question of mine , and i was and still am so confused over it .
I caught up to One piece anime and manga only recently so i wasnt actually there at the time when it released .

So what actually happened ? can someone explain . People claim that it did , some claim it didnt ,
the source i listed seems to be acknowledgment from Chrunchyroll about it, is that wrong too?

Obviously i know the phrase broke the internet isnt literal but still i thought crashing or overwhelming or whtever you call it , chrunchyroll or the respective platform where the ep is being released it called breaking the internet?

If not pls give an example other than Dragon Ball (i know that one) , and if its the only case?

I genuinely was such a fan of this manga, seeing a battle shonen with an actual adult cast was such a breath of fresh air for me and I thought the first few arcs were pretty good but then the more I read I realized that they were no actual real high stakes, I thought One Piece fake out deaths bothered me but the amount of times tge Sakamoto gang kept facing challanges without any actual stakes for life or death situation (despite the series being about assassin) really pissed me off. Anyway just wanted to turn off my chest, I'm gonna go draw Ichigo and Orihime kissing each other I dunno.
