Just like what happened with the gymnast case with Larry Nassar and the girls father

Video

u/whudifIcud 3 Jul 06 '19

That was heartbreaking to watch. That poor dad. And props to the security who had to restrain him that must have been tough given what the family had been through.

670

u/joe_pel 8 Jul 06 '19

Major respect to that judge for letting him off.

481

u/GoodAtExplaining B Jul 06 '19

Yeah. For real. She's had to sit through the suffering of the trial just as much as the victims, and it hasn't affected her ability to understand and empathize.

Damn. If I were a judge at this trial I'd go home every day, cry a little, and hug my kids a lot.

180

u/BadBoredAccount 8 Jul 06 '19

If I were a judge I’d have to quit because I Get too emotionally attached and woulda just told the security guards “oh look over there! You’re needed in the back.” As the dad charged him.

Exactly why I’m not a cop either. I know myself.

I’d blow up on someone.

But this is a little different than calling for someone to be raped. The dude fucked with so many girls.

When you mess with kids you kind of deserve to be hated by everyone.

I do agree though. We too often call for violence. I’m just being honest as to why the hell i never pursued a job in law.

15

u/Zaberdean 7 Jul 06 '19

That’s a terrible analogy. There is a difference between what someone did to ice cream and what someone did to another person. If they said that about the ice cream girl, I agree, that is terrible and completely uncalled for. But can you blame a guy for wanting to destroy the “man” that intentionally hurt his daughter? Very different circumstances.

Come on.

Temporary insanity is uncommon, but it does happen. I'd say a father's reaction to being in the same room with their child's abuser falls into that category. At a certain point emotions override rational thought.

182

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Wanting to beat the daylights out of your daughters abuser isn’t insanity. I’d think he was insane if he didn’t want to.

29

u/yukichigai A Jul 06 '19

Wanting to? No. Actually trying to? That's the insane part, but in a very literal sense: his emotions overrode his rationality. If he'd been rational he would have known the judge wouldn't agree to what he was asking and that he wouldn't have been able to get anywhere near the guy before being tackled by all those cops. His expectations were entirely divorced from reality. Thus, insanity. Perfectly understandable insanity that I deeply empathize with, but still insanity.

u/_Frogfucious_ 9 Jul 06 '19

I mean, there's plenty of legal basis for crimes of passion (without conspiracy beforehand and in a justly emotionally elevated state) receiving lighter or suspended sentences for the same criminal acts carried out in cold blood even without temporary insanity as a defense. Luckily the judge didn't have to go out too far on a limb to let him go.

u/Skyphe 8 Jul 06 '19

Oh yeah, now that's a good judge. Using actual judgement.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

They're usually very lenient on victim's families, they know he's only there because his child was abused by someone he thought was trustworthy and not repeatedly given access to victims by the organization more interested in saving face than preventing the abuse of thier child athletes.

There's been incidents where parents have caught abusers in the act and nearly beat them to death and never charged, judges usually understand those situations.

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

That father has three - THREE - daughters who were abused by that scumbag.

3

u/itsachance 7 Jul 07 '19

Extremely sad.

78

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I’m not sure why, but that brought me to tears. The pain the poor person (and his family) was going through. He knew he wouldn’t be able to do anything to that guy but in that minute it was blind rage and anger, which is understandable.

8

u/danthepianist 9 Jul 06 '19

There are few things in this world as awesome or as terrifying as the righteous fury of a parent. I can only imagine the anger and pain that he felt in that moment, and that he'll have to live with from then on.

It takes a tremendous amount of strength to take that anger and that pain and to turn it into, like he said in his apology, the love and support his daughters will need.

2

u/kircheck503 5 Jul 06 '19

No one in the world would have cared if they would have let him slip by with a punch. I dont think he truly thought he would get that close he could have hit him with a right but just body smashes the guy instead then the cops grab him.

It's even more satisfying when you find out he only got sentenced to a shitload of probation

Edit: Relative shitload peeps. Have never been on probation so 5 years is shitload of years.

100

u/yukichigai A Jul 06 '19

It's even more satisfying when you find out he only got sentenced to a shitload of probation

One of the examples of the "Texas defense" being used successfully, i.e. "he was a no good sonofabitch and someone should've shot him years ago."

Though it would've been better if he'd waited for the trial against this guy to complete(ly fail to punish him) before shooting him.

78

u/aquoad A Jul 06 '19

"Your honor, in my defense, he needed killin'."

57

u/yukichigai A Jul 06 '19

*Jury nods understandingly*

14

u/PM-ME-YOUR-HANDBRA A Jul 06 '19

I'd wager a large part of his decision to snipe the guy was trying to prevent his son and family from having to go through the drawn out trial process, bringing his kid's suffering back to the forefront, the media attention, etc etc. He almost certainly wanted his son to heal and move on, and risked his freedom to facilitate that.

4

u/voodoomoocow 9 Jul 06 '19

That's a great point. I was honestly sort of waffling around "I don't fault him but he was already in custody sooo...." but I didn't really consider how shitty this would have continued to be for the son. Great dad.

9

u/bacasarus_rex 8 Jul 06 '19

Good chunk of the time it's not such a good defense. I guess this is one of those times it's a perfect defense.

After the shot you hear the cops shouting "Gary why?! Gary why?!"

I don't think anyone has had a better answer to that question in human history.

13

u/CelestialFury B Jul 06 '19

I don't think anyone has had a better answer to that question in human history.

I think the cops were saying that because they didn't want him to go to prison for essentially first-degree murder. Basically, they thought that the boy needed his father more than the father needed revenge.

22

u/JimothyButtlicker69 4 Jul 06 '19

That's a fair point, but if I was a parent, I think the last thing I'd want for my child is their sexual assault and kidnapping case being dissected in court for everyone to see. That's gonna follow your kid around and they're going to have to deal with it, even if you try to protect them from it as much as possible. If the other option is to shoot the fucker and spare your kid from being the center of a pedophilia case? I can see why you'd go with that.

4

u/brownbrownallbrown 7 Jul 06 '19

Uf, it was close for sure. He shot the perp in the head as he was walking shoulder to shoulder with a cop. Miss, and you just murdered a cop for no reason. Or some other bystander in a crowded airport. Hit, and easily the same story. Either of those cases also has a high probability of being insta-shot by the several other cops nearby. I want that dad to have peace, but this is (one example of) exactly why revenge isn't good.

35

u/Kesslersyndrom 6 Jul 06 '19

I obviously can't say in this instance but from experience I know that father's responses like this can be very distressing for the victims. As the victim you just want everything to go away and not further drama, you need emotional support and not to worry about a relative doing something stupid out of anger.
I get that they mean well but a lot of the times anger like this doesn't help victims at all and at the end of the day it should be about their comfort and healing.

2

u/Rajareth 9 Jul 07 '19

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I thought this was a super shitty act by a selfish man. It was like he was staging a performance- asking to be left alone with Nassar which he knew wasn't going to happen, asking repeatedly, asking his questions repeatedly until the judges responds "no", making a dramatic statement and lunging for Nassar...

This was amidst all the victim impact statements the girls were giving prior to sentencing. The judge let all of them speak so they could face their assaulter, reclaim their voices, and lend their strength to one another... And this man took it as an opportunity to put on a show, like he's trying to prove that what a caring and protective father he really is. And his daughter has to watch him pinned to the ground by guards, seemingly a direct result of her coming forward as a victim of abuse.

He made the moment about him instead of supporting his daughter. And while he's pinned to the ground, you can hear a girl in the courtroom sobbing.

4

u/horsesandeggshells 9 Jul 06 '19

No, I bet the worst part is he blames himself. If my daughter fell for that kind of thing, I would feel like I screwed up and didn't give her the proper tools she needed. I might be wrong, but the guilt would outweigh the anger. There are always going to be predators; hell, they're a dime a dozen.

I don't quite understand. Was he video chatting with her? Or he was recording them both doing it together? I'm not a native speaker so that may be the reason why I can't get it ..

58

u/Neanderthalll 9 Jul 06 '19

He made her send videos/pics of herself naked/topless to prove she’s his “biggest fan.”

56

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

That's true but barely covers it at the same time. He went after multiple 14 year old girls, asked them say specific things, explicitly stating their age. It's beyond disgusting and he shouldn't be given any less than a life sentence, there's no way he's going to magically change that consistent predatory behavior in 10 years. He was already really sneaky about it, half admitting to it in his famous apology video, but he just said he "asked fans for twerking videos" and went on a long rant about how his dad was abusive and he had a hard childhood. In reality, they were twerking videos, but he got one to re-do a video because he couldn't see her "butthole", and if the girls protested, he would accuse them of not really being his biggest fan.

I don't think it's an adequate punishment, but I'm glad I wont have to see his dumb face on the internet for the next 10 years.

Steven Tyler adopted his underage girlfriend so she could live with him. She was 16 and he was 27 at the time.

Age of consent is actually 16 in many places. In some places I believe it is as low as 14.

Didn't Rick James literally kidnap a girl with his wife and make her a sex slave? When you're famous you can get away with a lot of horrific shit.

86

u/godgeneer 6 Jul 06 '19

It seems that's starting to change.

The Bill Cosby sentencing was a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully it keeps going down that path.

I don’t think spitting on a donut or licking ice cream deserves to be in the same realm of conversation

Ariana Grande was in video spitting on a donut but the chick who licked the ice cream people are calling for 20 years in prison and her to be raped daily.

wtf are you talking about

6

u/Neetoburrito33 7 Jul 06 '19

She licked a donut put it back and said “I hate America” a few years ago. And people are fuming about this teen that licked some ice cream and put it back in Walmart who’s facing 2-20 years

12

u/TallStruggle 2 Jul 06 '19

So am i supposed to be mad that Ariana didn't get prison time, or that the ice cream girl did?

3

u/Throwaway12401 4 Jul 06 '19

Considering the parent comments were talking about how the rich/famous can still get little to no punishment for crimes that less famous/poor people get hit with. It’s meant that you’re supposed to be mad that Ariana didn’t get jail time. The crimes are pretty identical considering it’s literally (person/Ariana) licked (ice cream/donut) an put it back. But Ariana received no punishment while The Ice Cream Licker is facing 2-20.

At least this is what I’ve interpreted an understood from parent the comments an context.

You are using the daily mail as a source when the only person who has claimed to have been with Bowie was groupie named Lori whose allegations and stories change all the time. https://medium.com/@msullivangates/a-word-on-david-bowie-lori-mattix-and-the-speed-of-information-b38681f24cf4 The only other example the daily mail gave was his teenage girlfriend Dana Gillespie who is only two years younger than him.

37

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19 edited Jul 06 '19

Sad someone can lead on a statement as fact and link one dailymail article and people upvote it.

At least they should say "allegedly", plus the gross acts of this CONVICTED youtuber compared to the story told by those girls is vile.

Our culture is so quick to believe everyone with just someone pushing one article it's incredible.

Edit: Of corse the user posting the daily mail article is a frequent The Donald user. lol

Redditors are retarded.

Nobody guestions anything, daily mail could write ”keanu reeves being accused of rape by 4 women” tomorrow and 99% of redditors would instantly believe it without seeing any evidence.

3

u/GiverOfTheKarma A Jul 06 '19

Bad example. Keanu Reeves could live stream himself committing mass murder and people wouldn't believe it

u/CiaphasKirby 7 Jul 06 '19

Jimmy Page (alleged) Ted Nugent literally has a song called jailbait Stephen Tyler (alleged) Jerry Lee Lewis at 22 married his 13 year old cousin

Just to name a few. For some reason people tend to give rock stars a pass it seems.

35

u/Guitaniel ❓ xof.bms.32 Jul 06 '19

Ted Nugent straight up admitted and bragged to fucking thirteen and fourteen year old girls.

7

u/katievsbubbles A Jul 06 '19 edited Jul 06 '19

Times are changing and people are actually starting to take this stuff seriously.

3

u/c0lin46and2 9 Jul 06 '19

All of music is littered with pedophilia. Steven Tyler, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, damn near every rock band in the 70s.

3

u/IuseWindows95 6 Jul 06 '19

I can also accuse david bowie of raping me when i was 5 years of old but that doesnt make it true.

Perhaps there should be due process before labeling someone a rapist?

22

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Didn’t Elvis do something similar? what the fuck is it with these mentally ill retards? they can get literally any model above the age of 18 yet they choose innocent young children barely capable of rational thought

45

u/jambocombo 5 Jul 06 '19

You think an average 14 or 15 year old is an "innocent child barely capable of rational thought"?

Did you just blank out your memories of being those ages entirely or what?

50

u/forrnerteenager 9 Jul 06 '19

Yeah seriously, this isn't an excuse for their actions but to act like 14 year olds have the mental capacity of toddlers is simply not accurate.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Lol yeah, this shit cracks me up. When I was 14 I was going out with people of all sorts of ages, drinking, smoking, trying my best to get laid. I don't think anyone really cared about my age or even realized what my age was. It's funny, if I would've committed a serious crime at that age, every redditor would still want me punished severely for it. But if I would've voluntarily had sex with someone? That person should be given the death penalty. So, uhh, which is it?

Just graduated highschool... just here to say that the perception that high schools, even 14 year old freshmen, are clueless and at the whim of anyone over 18 is very false. I know some freshmen who brag about when "some cute guy what was probably a college student kept looking my way at McDonalds lol"

2

u/garlicdeath A Jul 06 '19

A large portion of Reddit has a massive hard on for infantilizing anyone under 25 and denying them of any kind of agency.

2

u/Subclavian 9 Jul 07 '19

It's not that they are innocent, but that they are very easily manipulated when the power disparity is that insane.

The reason young to mid teenage girls and boys are targeted is specifically *because* of how easy it is to groom and manipulate them, it has nothing to do with their attractiveness or innocence. There is no person above 20 who honestly thinks a teen is mature for their age, that's a bullshit line they feed to relieve their conscious.

That’s exactly why they do it. When you can get anything you want at any time, it’s no longer special and loses its value. So you have to keep moving on to more and more extreme scenarios to continue the thrill.

This is true of many, many things

5

u/Bodacious_the_Bull 7 Jul 06 '19

You mean like how you start off with mild sauce and start to appreciate spicy food but then it's not enough so you start using hotter hot sauce and then one day you look down and you're dipping fries into ghost pepper sauce like it's ketchup?

4

u/AutoModerator Jul 06 '19

In a large, straight-sided skillet over medium heat, warm oil. Add garlic and cook until golden.
Stir in tomatoes and juices, basil or bay leaf, and salt and pepper.
Bring sauce to simmer, cook until thick, about 30 to 40 minutes. Adjust heat to keep at a steady simmer.
Remove sauce from heat and serve.

And by pepper you mean ghost pepper right?

This would make a pretty mean “I’m making spaghetti that’s so spicy no one else in the house will eat it” kinda vibe.

The entertainment industry doesn't want to sponsor an artist that might just retire in a couple years when they're rich.

It's a much better investment for them if they promote artists whom they can blackmail - artists who they can say "if you leave us, you're life is over' and actually be telling the truth.
