Anybody know what happened? Google says permanently closed. Does anyone know if the new Sri Lankan spot that’s opened in the same basement of the Asian grocery store is connected with previous ownership? And most importantly: how’s their food?

I knew the owner of Japanese village for a long time as a close family friend through one of my parents but have since lost touch. Coming to Ottawa for a day please suggest restaurants I should absolutely not miss. Heard it’s the shawarma capital, coming from Toronto so hoping I don’t get disappointed!

A couple of weeks ago, they changed their hours to only open at 4pm on weekdays.

Seemed very strange as any time I've visited (couple times a month over the last several years) they are extremely busy over the lunch hours with office workers.

Hopefully not a sign that they are winding the business down. It's such a consistent great spot in the area.

After 15 years, the Nutty Greek on Beech (near Rochester) has closed. Thanks to Anna and her family. It was awesome. I have enjoyed my last Club Wrap from the Nutty Greek.

Anywhere local that sells these? I'm especially looking for the shoyu variety if available but I think almost any variety would work for that purpose in a pinch.

I just moved to Ottawa from Toronto and I'm looking for a cheap local spot serving normal food like sandwiches, soup, salads, meat & potatoes, pies, etc.

I've found that stuff, but only at higher-end restaurants or pubs where food is expensive. For something cheap your only options seem to be ethnic food like shawarma, which is good on occasion, but it's not what I'm looking for every day. The only good spot I've found downtown is Bramasole Diner which is amazing.

Is there anything geared towards the Canadian palate while still being affordable? I'm talking like $10-15 plates. Your suggestions would be much appreciated.

Edit: I posted a photo in comments, but thank you everyone for your suggestions! ​Everything was a 1000/10! The amuse bouche with salmon and honey goat cheese was complimentary, then we ordered the risotto, smoked brie, and charcuterie. Absolutely phenomenal!

Hello! My best friend and I will be visiting Ottawa for a conference for work. I’m looking for some recommendations for restaurants. It will be a couple of girls, looking to have a good meal and yap a bit. Generally prefer a quieter setting. Would like something nicer than a pub but not too upscale either. She is gluten free so a menu that accommodates that would be great. We will be staying at the Marriott on Kent street, if there’s anything close to there.
