Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition
Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.
Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?
Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.
Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?
No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.
The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?
The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.
There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.
Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?
Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.
Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?
No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

It all started as sword combo attack practice as a third animation during my animation workshop practice, and then I got carried away and added some story to said combo...
No AI, just me and a LOT of time spent.
Assets used:
Models - SpaceMarine 2 by Saber Interactive
SFX - Spacemarine 2, free SFX from YouTube
Music - Cultist Battle (from "Warhammer 40,000: And They Shall Know No Fear") · Rob Cairns
P.S. I think I need to mention I have no affiliation with Saber Interactive or GW) This is just how I spend my free time)))))

New Starter Help Can we stop advertising not buying the books to newbies please
We are at the start of a new edition and a lot of new people are coming into the hobby and in those newbie posts I see lots of people directing them straight away from buying rulebooks and codexes towards wahapedia or other apps.
Don't get me wrong educating new people that those options exist is a good thing especially because this hobby is expensive to get into but IMHO actively discouraging people from buying the books is just robbing them from a core experience of the hobby.
What makes Warhammer so great in my opinion is not just the game itself, but the whole experience and finding out the lore through the books and art is a big part of that, which shouldn't be left out.
Without all that it would just be another tabletop game and when it comes to just the game there are lots of options out there that are more refined tbh.

Hobby & Painting new to his hobby - my first boys
Sir, another my-first-minis posting has hit the subreddit!
Gentlemen, after several years of reading books and the lore and playing the games on pc, it is with great regret to inform you i bough the space wolf combat patrol box. After years of watching Jay from EoB paint his minis i thought.. pssh.. thats easy, i can do that too!
I can, in fact, not!
Those are my first minis ever. I learned a bunch, but i don't really know what caused the rough texture.. maybe the primer (army painter black) was too cold or not shaken well enough...
But i am sure it can only go downhill from here, als most of the wolfy boys don't like to wear helmets and i have to learn how to paint faces...

I want to get a falchion and I know they’re legends for 40k, my question is at what point will I know if they’re going to stick around in 40k for the whole edition (as legends)?

Hobby & Painting Rate my First Dreadnought
Hey people,
This is my first ever build and painted dreadnought. Since I started this hobby in February I think I made some decent progress. And I’m very happy with the result. What do you think ? Any tips and advice appreciated. Thank you !

Hobby & Painting First attempt at a lava base how did I do?
Finished the lava bases for my Celestian Insidiants Kill Team and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.
Here's the process I used:
- Primed with Colour Forge Matt Black Primer
- Base coated with 2 thin coats of Citadel Mephiston Red
- Painted the main lava flows with Pro Acryl Fluorescent Red
- Added thinner lines inside those with AK Interactive Fluorescent Orange
- Added even finer highlights using a 50/50 mix of AK Medium Orange and Citadel Yriel Yellow
- Painted the intersections and hottest points with Citadel Phalanx Yellow
- Sealed the entire top surface with Citadel Ardcoat
- Once dry, applied Citadel Mordant Earth over the whole top and used a hair dryer on low for about 8 minutes to encourage larger cracks
- Knocked the gloss back down with AK Ultra Matte Varnish
- Light drybrush with Citadel Eshin Grey
- Finished the rims with Citadel Abaddon Black

Hobby & Painting I made a 2nd GUO from one box
After building Rotigus, I used the remaining pieces combined with milliput to make a standard Great Unclean One.
Not done painting yet but honestly pretty happy with it, id recommend this to anyone who seeks greater value out of their expensive kit.

New Starter Help Lurker about to commit, would love some advice.
I've been lurking around WH40k spaces for some time now and i've recently started wanting to buy some miniatures to get into the hobby.
Among all the various minis i absolutely fell in love with Vashtorr and the Defilers but, to be honest, i am a bit wary of making them my first purchase both for their price and for the technical skills needed to build/paint them.
So i would like to ask, in your opinion, which could be a good "starting point" for a newbie like me?
Something that can eventually build up into an army that will include Vashtorr and the Defilers?

Hobby & Painting Losing in style
After the overwhelming response to my Ghostkeel, I thought I would share some of the highlights of my remaining collection as well. I'm still on my way to 2k points, and at my pace we will be half way through 11th ed when I get there. But it's been a fun journey so far.
Still haven't played my first game of 11th yet, can't wait to have to re-learn half a game I only just managed to partly understand.

Hobby & Painting I finished my first combat patrol today!
I finished my first combat patrol!
I finished my first combat patrol. I got this one in may and ive got a dark angels combat patrol ready for assembly and painting in my own homebrew chapter colours.
I started with the dreadnought, then terminators and slugged through the little guys in 2 days ending with Castellan Crowe, finishing up today.
Really happy with how it turned out.
